Babies and infants are precious. Everything babies and toddlers experience affects their brains forever. The way you treat our children counts – and it counts long term. Children are not tough. They are not too young to notice. They do not just get over it. Love care and attention will help children to become happy and stable adults. Shouting, hitting, violence, abuse and ignoring your child have a very bad effect on your baby’s and young child’s brain development. This can cause problems later – at school; as teenagers; as adults. Parenting can be tough but one of the most important things you can do is provide a safe home, calm and free from violence for your children. If you get early help the risk of the children suffering long term effects will be less. To get help talk to someone you trust. A support agency that helps family's. Mixed Feelings Sometimes just a few simple words from a good friend can put a warm feeling in your heart. Don't get feelings mixed up with 'love' real love takes time, growth and sacrifices. Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up. Sometimes I get my wife and my GPS mixed up...they both tell me what to do every 30 feet. Smile, it is the key that fits the lock of everybody's heart. Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude. Happiness does not depend on what happens outside of you but on what happens inside of you. Some minds are like concrete, thoroughly mixed up and permanently set. All unknown quotes

Little Johnny comes downstairs crying. His mother asked, “What’s the matter now?” “Dad was hanging pictures, and just hit his thumb with hammer,” said little Johnny through his tears. “That’s not so serious,” soothed his mother. “I know you are upset, but a big boy like you shouldn’t cry at something like that. Why didn’t you just laugh? “I did!” sobbed Johnny. .

If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did." .

In the supermarket was a man pushing a cart which contained a screaming, bellowing baby. The gentleman kept repeating softly, "Don't get excited, Albert; don't scream, Albert; don't yell, Albert; keep calm, Albert." A woman standing next to him said, "You certainly are to be commended for trying to soothe your son, Albert." The man looked at her and said, "Lady, I'm Albert."

A drunk staggers into a Catholic Church, enters a confessional booth, sits down but says nothing. The Priest coughs a few times to get his attention but the drunk just sits there. Finally, the Priest pounds three times on the wall. The drunk mumbles, "ain't no use knocking, there's no paper on this side either. One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?" Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white." The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, "Momma, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?"

This word search was sent to me and nearly drove me mad for a while. Find the word DOG

I seem to remember a time when the children including the teenagers went to the local school around the corner, and learnt what they needed to and just got on with life. However times have changed, in my professional life I was constantly dealing with teenagers that didn’t want to go to ‘that school’ instead expected parents to run around for them and get them into ‘this school’, as they liked it better there, well really, they thought they would like it better at ‘this school’. Often what happened is that the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence and the little darling in question didn’t attend ‘this school’ much past the first few days either. In fact one family had THREE sets of school uniforms hanging in a wardrobe and the child concerned didn’t go to any school. It is easy for us looking into a situation such as that one and say‌..maybe the parent is being the enabler, maybe the parent is just wanting a quiet life, or maybe the parent thinks their child will be the next ‘big thing’ in whatever they want to be and must be catered to. We have seen several situations across the country in the past year where college aged students have got into ‘sticky situations’ and the parents have either reached for the lawyers or the media to help protect their little darlings from the nasty School Principal or Board of Trustees. What are the parents teaching these young people? They are teaching them that parents will come to the rescue when they get themselves into a situation and make it go away. Regretfully one day these young people may get themselves into a horrible situation where parents can’t fly in and tell everyone they are wrong because the rules do not apply to THEIR child. I recall seeing a poster from Tauranga Safer city project a while ago with a very sorry looking young man dressed up and sitting in a police cell, the wording said ‘His Dad put him here, by supplying him alcohol and he went and did‌..â€? As I say to parents who now consult with me, let these young people learn about accountability and consequences before they turn 17 and become an adult in the eyes of the law. If they need to be spoken to by the police don’t block their actions. If your child has messed up at school and is stood down, parents need to be supporting the school, not running to the lawyers. While you may not agree with the punishment, the lesson about consequences brings a lifelong lesson. If your young person is stood down from school for a few days, don’t make it like a holiday for them, take the computers to work with you, get them out of bed and leave them with a list of jobs, and yes, I know, that can be a difficult list to achieve. Think twice about running around and getting them sorted to go to another school just because they don’t like ‘this school’ around the corner, think about why they aren’t going to ‘this school’, and get them to prove to you that they can attend school before you think about trying to move them. Make them this offer, You will do everything you can to get them into ‘that school’, when they hit a certain attendance level at ‘this school’ There are now plenty more high schools in town nowadays, how many uniforms do you want in your wardrobe? BARRY MUIR’S FURNITURE GALLERY Greetings….. Barry Muir here and once again it is great being able to address you through CC’s Newsletter…. Since I last wrote in the newsletter it has been my pleasure to attend the LaZboy International Summit in Monroe Michigan in the USA. I just wish you LaZboy fans could all have attended. It was truly a memorable occasion and witnessing the launch of a whole new range of LaZboy furniture was just amazing…. The good news I have is that our orders are placed and soon we will have all the new releases displayed in our Maunganui Road showroom… Yes Barry Muir’s Furniture Gallery… Keep watching and listening for news of the new arrivals… THE POWER OF ADVERTIZING… Since I returned from the International Summit I have been busy preparing new radio and billboard advertising…. I’m sure you will have heard my many radio adverts…! Yes they do work for Barry Muir’s Furniture Gallery as I believe it the ideal way to reach our customers… It is amazing that many customers come into to our showroom feeling very welcome as having heard my personal radio invitations… Speaking of radio… Our good friends at Old Grumpy’s Gallery recently sold a vintage AM valve radio to one of their customers… Old Grumpy’s selling point was that they would not be able to tune into my adverts… To which the customer replied “Don’t worry I’ll find a way… I need my daily dose of Barry” Did I mention that there is ONLY ONE BARRY MUIR’S FURNITURE GALLERY?

We look forward to welcoming you into our store… Next month I will be writing personal introductions of our staff members with a mix of experience and humour...

Windows 10 As I write this Windows 10 is about to be released by Microsoft as a free online upgrade for most Windows 7 and Windows 8.0/8.1 users. A full release in stores will happen in due course, along with computers with Win 10 pre-installed. Windows 10 has a few new features, but more importantly for Windows 8.0/8.1 users is that it brings back the Start menu. It’s not the traditional Start menu, but is a mix of the Win 8 Metro interface and the Win 7 Start menu. That is, it will look a bit different to everyone, but overall I think it’s an improvement.

The most important aspect of this upgrade is as follows. I recommend being patient for a couple of months and let others find any remaining problems that weren’t found in Microsoft’s extensive Tickets $20 available from Waipuna Hospice, Hospice Shops, testing program. After all, the free upgrade offer lasts 12 months, so no need to rush. ”The

sacredness of care

All life is precious and all people are to be valued and treated with kindness. Within us there is a deep knowingness that the purpose of care is not only to do the work but to do the work with love and compassion. Therefore the most important aspect of holistic care is self-awareness. The way we see ourselves is the way we see others. We can only help others if we know ourselves; our strengths, our limitations and our gifts. Our own attitudes and our own thoughts have a profound effect on the people we care for. It’s the way we speak, the way we listen, and the level of presence we offer, which adds an important quality to care. When we put consciously our own agenda’s and concerns aside and are fully present, fully focusing on the person we care for without having attachments or expectations, we access the ground of our being, the essence of our self, and allow our consciousness to rest in that infinite space. This is when healing happens naturally. The key is not what we do, but how we do it. If we create the right environment, which includes our own state of being, we allow healing to happen. We have to recognize our wholeness and way of being and recapture the parts of ourselves that we have left behind, bringing heart and soul back to our lives and to the work we do. To care for a person is an honor and a privilege. My destiny is in my own hands.” – Mary Burmeister

Aries Your fortitude is needed this month because although you have a lot of determination to sign contracts you will get some opposition. Being more productive by modernising your processes is essential to succeed. Try the brave experiment. Stay home more. Chill out. Taurus No attacks on Taurus this month, you are being protected. Best time to build financial foundations but go it alone by managing your own affairs first. So get on with the job and avoid the public limelight. Especially, don’t entertain risky activities with your friends. Gemini Quality support is here for you. Those long awaited resources you have been longing for may materialise. Make clear determined decisions around a goal. You might desire a walk on the wild side but if you can’t be honest with those who matter most, then skip it. Regret is pain. Cancer Take care of yourself by turning life around. What do you really want? Being noble doesn’t always work. Thoughtless tasks don’t really do it for you. It may be complicated but harmonize with your love and it will work out alright. Leo Physical activity is the go for you. Be a star and take the initiative at work. You are capable even if some have their doubts. Conquer the heart of your desires by taking action. Intimacy and gifts work in your favour – did you know? Virgo Lucky you! Sort out any discomforting issues with your darling in the first week so that the situation doesn’t worsen. Libra You will need to match your competencies with your goals. You could learn something valuable from the opposition. Even if it appears simplistic it will be worth noting. Keep an eye on home events and assert your position now rather than later. Use your lie detector. Scorpio You are trapped emotionally, it is a confusing time with complications. Avoid signing anything at work because you could be on the losing end of it all. Things will improve towards the end of the month so you will be able to breathe again. Focus on your friends. Sagittarius No flies on you this month. Problems will pass you by and negative influences will go over your head. You are on to it, baby! Your associates may try to be too familiar with you though because of all your vibrant energy. Enjoy the good times while they last. Capricorn You are tense with troubles and problems that have come home to roost. Lay low. Make no deals. Take small steps and get on with it. Your trust in relatives is tested but you saw it coming. Believe in your own strength and avoid solving the big problems now. Take cover. Aquarius There will be lots of events – positive ones. There will be plenty of opportunities to start a new trend. You will have the vital energy for projects you have already prepared for. If you have a partner, this will be a pleasant time. You are surrounded by harmonious relationships. Pisces Yum! There are unforgettable events for you on the love front. Amazing! There will be an epiphany in your working environment so you will see clearly what people are up to. Perhaps you will choose to play the unofficial battle and surprise the enemy. Go bush and relax.

CC’s Bay Of Plenty Community News Letter, Phone: 021 501 200 ... Email: ccsbopcommunitynewsletter@gmail.com (Page 12) Dogs — Kisses — Cuddles — Safety I was reading an article (Doggone Safe: Dogs Don't like Hugs and Kisses) I must say as an owner of five dogs I found this a very good read. Dogs don’t like kisses and cuddles…. This article made it very clear with regarding safety that many dogs don’t like cuddles and kisses from strangers. In fact they are just like children. If a stranger approached your child and tried to cuddle and kiss them they would feel scared unsafe. This also applies to dogs, they too feel unsafe and scared if you get in their face. This then can lead to the dog biting and then the dog is blamed for retaliating due to unwanted cuddles. Small children tend to hang on and lay/roll on the dog which leaves the poor old pooch in an uncomfortable situation, If a stranger picks up your child it usually leads to screaming crying and kicking… the warning signs that the child is not happy… .the poor pooch shows their fear by signs of pulling back, turning their head , trying to move and then last result a bite. Some people just don’t see the warning signs. Just because an owner can kiss and cuddle their dog this does not mean that strangers have that right. My five pooches are all different some don’t like you in their face, they turn their head away and pull back ... yet some do enjoy the cuddle and mush mush. DOG SAFTEY teach your children not to pat or cuddle a strange dog. Teach them to ask the owner if they can pat the dog, listen to what the owner says. Teach your children not to kick and poke and tease dogs. Teach children not to get too close and keep their face back from all dogs. And the most important thing everyone needs to understand … not all dogs are friendly or want you to touch them.

CC’s Bay Of Plenty Community News Letter, Phone: 021 501 200... Email: ccsbopcommunitynewsletter@gmail.com (Page 15) DO YOU HAVE A DRINKING PROBLEM? There were times in our "drinking careers" when we were convinced that all we had to do to control our drinking was to quit after the second drink, the fifth, the tenth, or some other number. Only gradually did we come to appreciate that it was not the fifth or the tenth or the twentieth drink that got us drunk; it was the first! The first drink was the one that did the damage. The first drink was the one that started us on our merry-go-rounds. The first drink was the one that led to our uncontrolled drinking. Many of us learned during our drinking days that enforced sobriety was generally not a pleasant experience. Some of us were able to stay sober, occasionally, for periods of days, weeks and even years. But we did not enjoy our sobriety. We persisted in looking forward to the time when we might be able to drink again. Now that we are in A.A., we have a new outlook on sobriety. We enjoy a sense of release, a feeling of freedom from even the desire to drink. Since we cannot expect to drink normally at any time in the future, we concentrate on living a full and happy life without alcohol today. Alcoholic Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. For more information please call 0800 229 6757 or visit AA.org.nz You are welcome to attend an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous at 11 Victoria Road Mount Maunganui St Peters Hall every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. There are other meetings every day of the week in Tauranga you can get the details from the AA web site or by ringing 0800 229 6757. Many people believe that Domestic violence is only physical abuse. However, Domestic violence takes many different forms. It may also be psychological, sexual, financial or spiritual violence. Physical Violence includes hitting, pinching, spitting, slapping, pushing, punching, kicking, burning, stabbing, strangulation, suffocating & shooting. It may also include threats to cause harm Psychological Violence (sometimes referred to as emotional or verbal abuse) includes put-downs, name calling, jealousy, harassing, screaming, using degrading language, insults, criticism, harming pets or animals, isolation from family and friends, and threats to leave the relationship or to commit suicide if the victim does not co-operate Sexual Violence includes unwanted touching or sexual activity, raping and forcing victim into unwanted sexual practices. It may include control over birth control, forced pregnancies or abortions and transmission of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Financial Violence occurs when an individual uses finances to control another individual. This could include forcing a person to hand over all or part of their salary or by denying someone access to their own finances, making victim ask or beg for money, forceful removal of money from victim Spiritual Violence occurs when an individual uses religious or spiritual matters to control another, such as forcing another to follow a particular faith or give up their religion or justifying their violence as religiously and spiritually acceptable
