He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals. -- Immanuel Kant “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, we would all be vegetarian.” ― Paul McCartney “The people that set one animal against another haven't the guts to be bullies themselves. They're just second-hand cowards.”

Have a giggle Murphy says to Paddy, "What ya talkin into an envelope for?" "I'm sending a voicemail ya fool!" Paddy says "Mick, I'm thinking of buying a Labrador. "Blow that" says Mick, have you seen how many of their owners go blind?" 19 paddies go to the cinema, the ticket lady asks "Why so many of you?" Mick replies, "The film said 18 or over." I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay flowers on a grave. As I was standing there I noticed 4 grave diggers walking about with a coffin, 3 hours later and they're still walking about with it. I thought to myself, they've lost the plot!! A teacher is explaining biology to her 4th grade students. "Human beings are the only animals that stutter,' she says A little girl raises her hand. ‘I had a kitty-cat who stuttered.' The teacher, knowing how precious some of these stories could become, asked the girl to describe the incident. "Well," she began, ’I was in the back yard with my kitty and the Rottweiler that lives next door got a running start and before we knew it, he jumped over the fence into our yard!' 'That must've been scary,' said the teacher. 'It sure was,' said the little girl. 'My kitty raised her back, went "Ffffff!, Ffffff!, FfffffF," but before she could say 'F###k-off !,' the Rottweiler ate her! The teacher had to leave the room

If a person is not welcome, the most common trespass is where you give the person a written notice stating they are trespassed from the property or premises. It is dated, name of the person trespassed, the place of trespass is noted and a reason signed by the person trespassing the offender. You then send a copy of the trespass to the police where it is lodged. If that person comes back to the property or premises you then ring and report it to the police, they then deal with the offending person. A verbal trespass is where you verbally trespass a person from the property or premises. You forward the details to the police to lodge and if the offender returns you ring the police to deal with the situation. Anybody can trespass a person from their property or premises.

There are still far too many such preventable accidents. Unfortunately, in spite of all the warnings, advice, TV Ads, road signs, alcohol-impaired driving remains a serious problem that tragically effects many victims, families and friends. If not time you stepped out and purchased some. They are not expensive compared to what you could loose if you should have a fire. They could be the saviour of your family, pets and home.

Don’t think it can’t and won’t happen to you! … We all make mistakes and you never know day to day what is in store for you and your family. Make sure you check that it is working from time to time see that the batteries are good. … Do you have a Fire Extinguisher in your home. You can never be too safe or prepared when it comes to fire and safety. A fire extinguisher just might be enough to put a small fire out before it gets away from you.

The roads in town are for everyone. We should expect pedestrians and cyclists. About one third of crashes are caused by SPEEDING If a child steps out 45 metres away and the vehicle is travelling at 60km/h by the time the alert driver reacts and brakes, the car will still be travelling at 44km/h when the child is hit.

There is a one in three chance that the child will die. ►If a vehicle hits a person at 50km/h, the risk of death is 40% ►If a vehicle hits a person at 60km/h, the risk of death is 70% ►If a vehicle hits a person at 70km/h, the risk of death is 96%

Kill your speed, not a child SLOW DOWN Just a reminder know where the children are when backing your car. They are fast on their feet and can put themselves in danger with out knowing it. Young children are unable to judge and understand what danger is or understand what happens if they run behind a backing car they are usually excited to see someone or go somewhere.

FAMILY VIOLENCE CAN HARM YOUR CHILD FOR LIFE Babies and infants are precious. Everything babies and toddlers experience affects their brains forever. The way you treat your children counts – and it counts long term. Children are not tough. They are not too young to notice. They do not just get over it. Love care and attention will help children to become happy and stable adults. Shouting, hitting, violence, abuse and ignoring your child have a very bad effect on your baby’s and young child’s brain development. This can cause problems later at school; as teenagers; as adults. Parenting can be tough but one of the most important things you can do is provide a safe home, calm and free from violence for your children. If you get early help the risk of the children suffering long term effects will be less. To get help talk to someone you trust. A support agency that helps family's. Reporting child abuse Anyone can report suspected child abuse in this country and people who call Child, Youth and Family can ask to remain anonymous. Even if an investigation results in no abuse being found the law will protect you if you disclosed or supplied information in good faith. Fear of being wrong is the single most common reason people might decide not to act. People feel this way because they might be afraid of: Repercussions - being thought insensitive - breaking a confidence - being disloyal. One of the best ways to overcome this fear is to equip ourselves with good knowledge and to discuss concerns early with an appropriate person. You can use the Child, Youth and Family freephone – 0508 326 459 – to sound out your concerns. If you are concerned that a child or young person is being abused, remember that their safety and wellbeing comes first. When you are reporting a concern, Child, Youth and Family will need to know as much as possible about the situation. Useful details include the name, age and ethnicity of the child or young person, the address where the child or young person can be found, and as much about the abuse or your concerns as possible.

Flexible, with Reasonable Ph: 07 579 9930 Cell: 027 630 8568 Computer based scams. You may have heard of the infamous “Nigerian Scam” which is all about getting people to provide finance and bank details to assist getting large amounts of money out of a country. In return people are promised a large percentage of this money. In reality what happens is that their money is taken, along with whatever is in their bank accounts, never to be seen again. This scam still exists and according to an Australian site, in October 2015 Australians lost $165,971 to this scam. Over time scams have become more subtle, complex and more believable, to the point where it is becoming common to find someone falling for these scams. So, how do you protect yourself from these scams. Firstly, the Kiwi attitude of being very trusting has to be infused with a questioning or doubtful attitude when reading a TXT on your phone or reading anything on the internet or elsewhere on your computer. What’s more, anyone or anything that is legitimate will welcome any questions and will welcome any doubt. Legitimate operations will not be offended if you ask for ID, or ask to call back or if you are just not comfortable talking to them. Secondly, if it looks too good to be true, then it most likely is. That old saying is very true with modern internet scams. And lastly, if you aren’t sure, talk to someone else about it. Talk to your trusted computer person. Find out if it is a scam or something legitimate. After all, maybe you have, in fact, found a great deal. I’m available to talk to about any questions you have. Give me a call (07-579-9930 or see my ad for other contact details). -David (Kings Computers)

Roastbusters 2.

Why has this happened again! Seriously? I refer to the recent situation where teenage boys got girls drunk in order to take photos of them in embarrassing situations. In media has dubbed this Roastbusters 2. I agree completely with comments made by sexual abuse survivor Louise Nicholas and Patrick Walsh from the Secondary Principals Association, that the action taken by the ‘authorities’ towards this SECOND group of young men is nothing short of a joke, and it will be seen as such by not only the boys but their peers. The lack of criminal charges will do nothing to discourage this sort of behaviour and I predict it will only be time until Roastbusters 3,4,5 7 & 6 will occur. So I’m going to be blunt and call a few people out. Dad’s, Fathers and significant men in boys lives, it time to step up to the plate and give these idiot boys a lecture or two. There are plenty of Messages to Young Men on the internet to help you get started in a conversation with these young men. Edmund Burke (1729-1797), the Irish political philosopher made the often used quote “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing” and that was before the advent of the internet and social media! Men, these boys (they are boys as determined by their behaviour), need to be taught what a real man does, and it isn’t Roastbusting behaviour! Once you have had the discussion with these boys follow up with them, as they go out the door ask them if they remember the conversation that you had and are they carrying everything these gentlemen in training might need. Yes this may be uncomfortable for all men involved to start with, but so is fronting up to a Judge with a boy who has let the power of the group, some alcohol, and hormones get the better of him. Mothers, your precious boy is not the prefect angel you may think he is, and sometimes an older man needs to have a word or two! I assure you, if there is no man who will talk with these idiot boys out, just speak up; it won’t take long for a queue to form. Mothers, you can also have a parent led conversation about what would happen in your family if something like this happened, from the female point of view, after all these girls are someone’s daughter, and someone’s sister, so help to put the human face onto this. These conversations can also help to get through to these boys how best to treat a young lady, and how best to behave so everyone respects each other after that night. Teachers and Schools, it is disappointing to see read that some schools and parents are in denial about the extent of this and that some schools are refusing programmes to help address this growing situation. The school is often one of the first institutions that parents turn to for help or guidance, the school specializes in young people and can often be of great help….if they acknowledge the situation, I sadly have seen first-hand, schools that don’t help the situation. The authorities, well it’s time to stop treating this as a joke and make some tough calls and make big changes…… It is Christmas everyone, have a great and safe festive season

DECEMBER HOROSCOPES Aries Lucky successful you. December sees people rallying around you with abundant resources so party hard. At work, it’s a perfect time to resolve any conflict of interest and to modernise security or at least change something to make a positive adjustment to your environment. Taurus You will feel emanating love from Venus. How exciting! You will also have a skip in your hefty Christmas footprint so buying those charming presents will be easy. However, try to keep your feet on the ground because you might lose your head in the clouds. Gemini Be ready for that amazing ‘Ding!’ moment. A coincidence will leave you astonished. Problems could keep manifesting but you are well practised at finding solutions. New jobs or opportunities are coming your way. Do not waste money on tinsel presents. Cancer It is happening all around you, there are so many choices that it could become overwhelming. The energy is high for creativity and planning for the future. Make them your ideas and enjoy the support of friends and family. Celebrate! Leo Projects are stalled and you cannot rely on your usual powerful input to make things happen. So keep trying but keep your cool. A crazy romance is possible which will alter your point of view. Seeds of doubt will be presenting themselves - so breathe… Virgo You are anxious about becoming a total failure. There is a lot of gossip and intrigue around you. Stay independent and take care of your own backyard first. On the bright side, because you are meticulous, you will make Christmas happen even if it nearly kills you. Libra You are just part of a global upgrade so being fearful is only because there is change. If you don’t like your job then be constructive about how to move into a new one even if it means retraining. Try not to cave in but adapt to your gentle side to benefit loved ones at Christmas. Scorpio You do have flare ups which might need restraining this month. Diplomacy at work is paramount. With family gatherings, although you may be the organizer, (and they do need organizing) put loved ones desires first. It’s cool to have a real Christmas tree, actually! Sagittarius A positive flowering month for you. Your destiny at work is in your hands. You do have opponents so be vigilant end of the second week. There is magic in love for you especially if you get involved in events. Don’t hide away silly, go and dance the night away. Capricorn A wondrous time for shakers and movers. Let your creativity flow. Good communication and clarity in your club or organisation is essential otherwise interest and production might wane. Your credibility in love is endearing. Aquarius There are unusual circumstances afoot so some of your energy needs to be rationalized. Performing and achieving nothing is not your style, however, be aware that vanity might dissolve creative flair in a team effort. Poof! Allow the family their favourite Xmas pudding. Pisces You are on stage and it’s complicated. Having enough resources won’t be an issue but you will be provoked into arguments because you don’t trust someone. You know your loved ones do support you, so, gather all your friends around and enjoy the Festive Season together.

Make sure your tree is at least three feet away from fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights. Make sure the tree is not blocking an exit in case of an emergency. Some lights are either for indoor or outdoor use, usually not both. Worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections are not safe. Read the manufacturer’s instructions before you use or connect lights and decorations. Never use lit candles to decorate the tree. Make sure your decorations are not broken/ sharp as children may hurt themselves. Always turn off Christmas tree lights before leaving home or going to bed. Get rid of the tree when it begins dropping needles. Dried-out trees are a fire danger. Don’t dump in or around the house or garage dispose of it correctly Check with your local community to find a recycling program. Bring outdoor electrical lights inside after the holidays to prevent hazards.

Holiday Cooking

PARTY SAFE Hey it’s party season that

Food plays a major part in holiday celebrations, please remember unattended cooking is very dangerous. Stay in the kitchen while you're frying, grilling, or broiling food. If you must leave the kitchen for even a short period of time, turn off the stove and move any oil or fat pans off the stove. Keep anything that can catch fire (oven mitts, wooden utensils, paper or plastic bags, towels, etc.) away from your stovetop, including your apron or any long-sleeved shirt. Protect little ones from burns, keep them out of the kitchen while you're cooking. Have you checked your smoke detectors???? Do it now … they just might save a life in the case of an emergency. Don’t risk your home and most important your family and friends. See you have alarms on every level of your home especially near sleeping areas.

means fun times with friends. It’s great to be out having fun BUT party safe!!! Don’t think it can’t happen to you. People do spike drinks … Never leave your drink unattended. Unless you know who is buying your drink get it yourself.

(Don’t think it can’t happen to you)

BBQ’s Barbeques are always a great way of people getting together. Gas bottles should always be checked to see that they are not leaking gas. See that the BBQ is placed away from the foot traffic. Always have a bucket of water or a hose handy. Alcohol and BBQs are not a good combination. People who are drinking should not be in charge of the BBQ. Keep children away from the cooking area. Common sense is required which will prevent accidents happening. Always have a bucket of water handy in the case of fire or minor burns.

Stranger Danger Tips Always try to stay in sight of other people, don't go down back streets or road If you can remember the car number plate or the colour or make of car. If a stranger approaches either on foot or in a vehicle, move back from them. Don’t take any lollies or food from them If they attempt to talk to you or ask for help for any reason, don't go to them stay back. Run away as fast as you can, if you are feeling scared Try and remember what the person looks like and what they are wearing. Yell for help as you run and try to stay in sight of other people Tell someone (a teacher, a parent or police officer or any other trusted adult) about what happened immediately. Always stay alert to who's around if you are out alone or with friends, Always stay in groups If possible. It’s much safer to be in groups. Always look after each other when you are out.

Contacts: Always have emergency numbers with you. Parents, Friends, Emergency no: 111, Taxi numbers. Always let family know where you are and who you are with. Drink: Don’t drink and drive… make sure you have a sober driver or order a taxi. Don’t get in a car with someone that has been drinking. Make sure you have money in case you need a taxi. ID: Always carry your ID so in an emergency you can be identified and family contacted if needed. Keep your ID safe. Mobile Phone: Make sure your mobile phone is fully charged … put your ID detail on your phone, Keep your mobile on you at all times in case you need it. Drink: Monitor your drink intake. Intoxication puts you in a vulnerable place for danger (disputes, rape, Alcatraz lockup) Don’t make an idiot of yourself that you can’t remember and regret. Carry some morals with you while out having fun. don't scull or mix your drinks. Groups: You are far more safe by staying in groups or with a friend. Take extra care if out on your own. Spiking Drinks: Buy your own drink. Don’t leave your drink un-attended!!! Keep your drink in sight at all. times and know who is around you. Don’t share drinks this can be a danger. It could be spiked

DRINK DRIVING

NEW YEARS EVE

We have all been warned about drink driving. We all know we are not to drink & drive …!!! As the ads on the TV say …. DON’T BE A BLOODY IDIOT! Have your partys enjoy your friends and celebrate Christmas but use your brains and organise your travel home or stay at your friends place. Taxis are available and in the end are cheaper than a drink driving ticket, loss of licence or living with the fact you have injured or killed another person. Remember if you kill another person or yourself you HURT & WRECK so many people’s life's.

As any other New Years Eve celebration most will end up on Marine Parade Celebrating the beginning of another year. Remember the liquor bans are in place so leave your alcohol at home. Don’t get yourself intoxicated/plastered and end up in Alcatraz for the night. Why so many have to make idiots of themselves baffles me. Watching the young teens last year disgrace themselves with girls wearing the next to nothing yelling and screaming and squatting to pee in the streets, guys pants hanging off them peeing everywhere drunk as skunks and people have the nerve to talk about animals! There is no shame when teens get liquor under their belt. The streets of Singapore would not tolerate this why do we accept this disgusting behaviour? We need to toughen up on idiot childish behaviour. Humans can be disgraceful creatures. Happy New Year.

Babysitters If you are going out and getting babysitters make sure you know who you are leaving with your children. It is better if the children know the babysitter so they feel secure and safe. See they have your contact numbers in case there is a problem. Make sure they have the house locked for safety .

KEEP DRINKS IN SIGHT Don’t leave your drinks unattended and any stage as it may put you in danger of someone spiking your drink, NEVER THINK it won’t happen to you! Bottle drinking is safe as you can put your thumb in the neck of the bottle. Buy your own drinks unless you know who you are allowing to do this for you. Party Safe

Library News: Thr ee new books fr om some louder -than-life-itself characters have just arrived: James Rhodes Professional and acclaimed pianist, writer and TV presenter James Rhodes tells it like it is in this memoir of madness, medication and music. There’s nothing like a complete and utter breakdown to bring out such honesty in this work titled Instrumental. Brian Blessed’s louder-than-loud approach to acting has placed himself at the forefront of British character acting for decades. Such bluster exudes from the pages of his book Absolute Pandemonium Bryan Bishop had a great life before a tumour attacked his brain. Not allowing this to affect his humour, including achieving a wish to get another woman and his wife with him together in the shower – even if it was just for physical therapy – Shrinkage shows a resilience of a soldier battling a hidden enemy. For such a quiet place the library has these and other loud literary ear-bashers dripping from the shelves!! See you soon. But for the problem drinker, with the best intentions, it repeatedly doesn’t work out that way. We in AA know what it’s like to promise ourselves that this Silly Season will be different – again. We will control our drinking and stop before it’s too late. And we know how devastating it is to wake up on the floor, or worse, and not remember how we got there – again. Christmas can be an uncomfortable time for the person with a drinking problem. AA can help. AA is a world wide self-help organisation with millions of members who meet in weekly groups. The groups consist of people wanting to get sober, people with days, weeks, months or years of sober living. AA is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. For more information please call 0800 229 6757 or visit www.aa.org.nz

You are welcome to attend an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous at 11 Victoria Road Mount Maunganui St Peters Hall every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. There are other meetings every day of the week in Tauranga you can get the details from the AA web site or by ringing 0800 229 6757.
