I trust you have all had a wonderful Christmas with your family and friends, for many holiday breaks continue on into the New Year. Just a reminder there will be lots of familys travelling on the roads so take extra care drive to the conditions of the road and keep your speed down. Remember the speed limit tolerance is 4 over the recommended speed. It’s for our own safety … if you get caught speeding don’t take it out on the police that catch you….. They are only doing their job to keep us and others safe

I need all ads and information early for the February March News Letter as people are still on breaks and its hard to catch up regarding Newsletter info. Its bedlam trying to do shopping with many holiday people in town. Trying to find parks or driving in queues of traffic Its time to remind everyone to have patience show curtesy if someone wants to change a lane. Also if you get caught up in queues in shops mellow out as you are not the only one that has shopping to do. The shop staff are working long hours … maybe pass time by chatting to the person next to you in the queues to take your mind off the waiting. Maybe pick your timing and shop later in the day?

Well the New Year is here with us I hope you have all set your tangible goals so now it’s time to get out there and get them… Funny how the wants and needs change with age…. As the kids leave home and you start to have a life of doing for yourself instead of kids. I notice so many in my age group moving around enjoying life more as the responsibility of children has passed …babysitter, school, sports, etc… CC’s Wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR Good health with many happy times Just a wee gripe it would be nice if The Chronical got their own stands for their newsletters instead of being rude and using mine … I have purchased nice stands not for your use. Pretty rude to find your newsletters covering all my CCs News letters. (Low blow guys) And to do this without the shops consent? not professional? (Lol sneaky)

If you have a flat tyre, think about driving slowly to a safe place to stop. You may damage the tyre and wheel rim, but this may be better than compromising your own safety. Turn on your hazard lights to make the car as visible as possible. If the car breaks down in a potentially dangerous location, put safety first. It may be safer to stay in the car and wait for help than to get out. If you decide it’s safer to leave, be sure there is a safe place you can get to without putting yourself or others in danger.

Grief Support Services is a local agency offering subsidised counselling to individuals and whanau/ families whose lives are affected by grief and loss. This may be due to the loss of a loved one or from circumstances that have caused change that is difficult to manage. We also facilitate an after suicide support group. We are friendly and welcoming and understand that it is not always an easy step to contact an agency such as ours. We are happy to be ‘sussed out’ if you want an initial appointment to see if our Service is for you. We treat all enquiries with respect and confidentiality. Our next After Suicide Support Group starts on Wednesday 10 February 2016. Trespassing an unwanted person.
Saturday 23rd January 2016 Full Moon
Sunday 31st January 2016 Last Quarter
If a person is not welcome, the most common trespass is where you give the person a written notice stating they are trespassed from the property or premises. It is dated, name of the person trespassed, the place of trespass is noted and a reason signed by the person trespassing the offender. You then send a copy of the trespass to the police where it is lodged. If that person comes back to the property or premises you then ring and report it to the police, they then deal with the offending person. A verbal trespass is where you verbally trespass a person from the property or premises. You forward the details to the police to lodge and if the offender returns you ring the police to deal with the situation. Anybody can trespass a person from their property or premises.
So why do people look forward to the New Year when they just continue with the old habits?

Do You Or Someone You Know Have A Problem With Alcohol? The New Year promises hope! It's time to make our New Year's resolutions! How many times have we promised ourselves, "this year will be different, this year I will control my drinking." But for the problem drinker, with the best intentions, it repeatedly doesn’t work out that way. How long is it before our promises are broken - again - and we find ourselves drunk - again? 3 months? 1 month? A week? A day? We in AA know what it’s like to promise ourselves that this time it will be different – again. We will control our drinking and stop before it’s too late - again. And we know how devastating it is to wake up on the floor, or worse, and not remember how we got there – again. January can be an uncomfortable time for the person with a drinking problem.
AA can help. Worldwide, AA has transformed the lives of many millions of people over the 80 years since it was started. The AA fellowship consists of meetings where members get together and tell what life was like when they were drinking, how they stopped with the aid of AA and, what life is like now. Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. For more information please call 0800 229 6757 or visit AA.org.nz
You are welcome to attend an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous at 11 Victoria Road Mount Manganui St Peters Hall every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. There are other meetings every day of the week in Tauranga you can get the details from the AA web site or by ringing 0800 229 6757. JANUARY HOROSCOPES Aries Your leadership attributes and vitality aggravate rather than enhance your love life, so… it would work better if you just chill out during the holiday period because things sometimes take care of themselves – actually. Try solving a puzzle game for a fun distraction.
Taurus So, you are in love with your job. Laying a foundation for future prosperity is what you do best. Stick to your guns in decision-making and don’t spread resources too thin. Your stolid nature is useful when betrayal presents itself. Get to the bottom of the cause.
Gemini You have a way of talking yourself out of a mess at work. Being balanced and not starting any new projects would be best for you at the beginning of this year. Avoid initiating any grand events. Realizing how different we all are is going to help you to forgive others.
Cancer Whoa! Your chemistry is casting spells all over the place! Careful with backing the wrong horse. You may want to control the family at the end of the month. If you succeed, it is only because they let you get your way. Boing! Boing!
Leo Put your mind to it and you can create miracles. You are determined to complete all your projects come hell or high water. No one else is up to speed, even in your love life. Your high energy is enviable. Go for it!
Virgo Even though it’s the holidays, you are sharp with the details and as meticulous as ever. If you are after high earnings, this is the month to go after the dollar. Some events in your love life fail but you are able to offer a charming compromise.
Libra The beginning of the month could be a bit boring where plans could turn to dust. You are not used to an uneventful social life. However, at work, new management changes could happen and towards the end of the month, new projects could flourish. Watch the hang-overs.
Scorpio What a bright bunny in the spotlight! You will be needed at work but can you cope with the demands? Stick with the quality of your efforts and don’t ignore loved ones. Being tender with your sweetheart is imperative.
Sagittarius Be bold with the gold and be a problem solver this month. Take care of your friendships mid-January. Avoid over-time and relax. Your dozing in the sun will soon change into new happenings which are appearing on the horizon.
Capricorn Meditation on a quiet mountain top is best for you this month. Your inner journey for peace is well-timed. Good to be slower and still. It’s an ideal time to allow new plans to evolve naturally. Bars don’t interest you much at all.
Aquarius You will be inspired and know something special. Your idea may be stolen so be careful about how you ‘blab’ if you want to keep it under wraps. Domestically, things are a bit touchy so getting on with distractions is probably the best plan.
Pisces Wow! It’s an awesome time for you! You are talented and determined. You keep your competitors on their toes. Show your affection for a loved one by taking them to an out-door concert with a picnic basket. Sweet!

Don't you know that a dime is worth more than a nickel, even though the nickel's bigger?" Johnny grins and says, "Well, if I took the dime, they'd stop doing it, and so far I've made $20! Life is like toilet paper, you're either on a roll or taking Sh-t from some a..hole A six-year-old boy called his mother from his friend Charlie's house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he threw a football in their living room. "But, Mom," he said, brightening, "you don't have to worry about buying another one. Charlie's mother said it was irreplaceable." The only way you'll ever get laid is if you crawl up a chicken's ass and wait. A crook mistakenly made a counterfeit $8 bill instead of a $10 bill. He decided to try it out anyway, so he went to the bank and asked for change. The teller looked at the $8 bill and gave the crook two $4 bills as change

“May this New Year be so prosperous that you always extend your hand to greet friends and never to ask for aid.”
CC’s Bay Of Plenty Community News Letter, Phone: 021 501 200 ... Email: ccsbopcommunitynewsletter@gmail.com (Page 9) DON’T dismiss a child's complaint of being bullied. Listen to Them: Possibly the worst thing a parent can do is ignore or dismiss a child's complaint of being bullied. It takes a lot of courage for children to admit that someone is picking on them. Respect that courage, and take time to hear them out. Believe Them: Bullying isn't something kids are likely to lie about, so give your children the benefit of the doubt, and let them tell their story. Get as much information as you can, including names of any teachers or students who may have seen the incidents. If possible, find out how your child responded to the bullying, too. Support Them: Telling your child to "just ignore" a bully can be interpreted by your child to mean that their feelings and situation don't matter to you. Even when there's no physical violence, bullying can have severe detrimental effects on a child's emotional well-being. They need to hear more from you than "just ignore it and it will stop." ……………………………………………………….. Make sure your children know that they're not to blame. They may feel like they've done something wrong, or that they in some way provoked or deserved to be bullied. Talk to them about this. Make sure they understand that it's the bully who did something wrong. Encourage Them: Help your child figure out the best way to respond to the bully. Start by asking "If you could tell the bully anything, what would you say?" Kids usually respond with things like "Leave me alone!" or "Why are you so mean?" Reinforce your children's right to stand up for themselves. While you don't want to encourage name-calling or other derogatory comments, your children have a right to ask that he be left alone. And they have the right to expect their wishes to be respected. Contact the School: Chances are, the bully who's picking on your child is picking on other children as well. Contact your child's teachers and principal. Tell them what your child told you. Ask them to keep an eye on the bully and intervene if he or she starts picking on someone. Be prepared to stand your ground if you meet with resistance or apathy………………………………………………. Follow Up: Ask your child, on a regular basis, how things are going at school. Ask specifically about the bully. Find out if the harassment behavior has continued, and what -- if any -- action teachers or other school administrators have taken. This issue may not get resolved right away. It might require multiple conversations with people at your child's school. Stick with it until the matter is resolved satisfactorily.

Under Fives Pre-schooler drownings typically occur when a child is allowed out of sight and reach of a caregiver; in the bath, paddling pool, or bucket – or larger bodies of water such as in a beach, lake or river. No children under-five should be drowning in this country. Keep under fives within arm’s reach at all *mes. It only takes sixty seconds and around five cen*metres of water for a child to drown. Safety Tips: Always empty and store paddling pools and water containers aWer use and ensure you have a safely fenced play area Iden*fy water hazards in and around your home and ensure your children can’t reach them If you're in a group of people, ensure you have an ac*ve supervision roster so you know who is watching the children at all *mes Make sure older children don’t have to take responsibility for younger children Teach your children water safety behaviour from as soon as they are old enough to understand, things like: ‘Never go near the water unless you’re with a grown up’ To learn more about how to keep your children safe while in or around the water please take a look at our Under Five's Be Waterwise resources. Lifejackets Each year people drown in New Zealand waters that may have been saved if they had been wearing a lifejacket. Legal requirement You must carry a correctly sized life jacket for each person on board the vessel. All lifejackets must meet NZ Standard 5823:2005 or another standard accepted by Mari*me NZ. If not being worn they must be stowed in an easily accessible loca*on. This rule applies to all boats including tenders to larger craW. It is the skipper’s legal responsibility to ensure that life jackets are worn in situa*ons of heightened risk, such as when crossing a bar, in rough water, in an emergency and by anyone who can’t swim. Well Happy New Year to everyone, another one bites the dust and it’s Summer! This usually means holidays and a slower pace of life with lazy summer days and great *mes to be had. However parents, you don’t get a holiday, sorry its not in your employment contract!... nah,… no holidays. So just get over it and get on with being a parent. If you haven’t heard the words “I hate you” from your li le cherub recently, you really are missing out on something special! I hear it quite oWen now I have two teenagers in my house! As much as some of us make light of hearing those magic three words, it does say that we are fulfilling our paren*ng contract, aWer all usually the ‘I hate yous” come when we are protec*ng them from doing something …ah…’unwise’ or with consequences they haven’t thought about. Sadly this summer will result in some teenagers dealing with some real life changing consequences, most of them situa*ons that parents can’t get them out of. We do have a great place in the world, here in New Zealand, it’s a fabulous place to raise a family and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. However in this li le piece of Aotearoa, our youth s*ll get drunk, our na*on’s behaviour with this drug is nothing to be proud of, they s*ll get pregnant, sunburnt, smash cars and bikes, fight with friends and families, and generally cause mayhem and havoc as they enter this New Year. So my encouragement to us parents is to LOVE the phrase I hate you make sure that you and your family celebrate these cherished words. If your family is making you feel bad because of these three li le words remind them it could be worse they could try…..”I’m pregnant” or “I’ve had an accident”, “it’s the police” or others like it. Yep you might be the kill joy or even the jerk, dork, or pain in the ass to your teenagers, but remind them, you protect them because you love them, then invite them to sit down and discuss your concerns, some things might be up for nego*a*on, but s*ck to your bo om line. And if there is no change in your stance, acknowledge their disappointment, and smile at them aWer all you are a pain in the ass, but more importantly you are THEIR pain in the ass! Go read or watch Nigel La a’s stuff, and have a great break See you next month Donald Welsh “You are essen*ally who you create yourself to be and all that occurs in your life is the result of your own making.” ― Stephen Richards

DON’T BE THE ONE WHO REGRETS YOUR ACTION BY LEAVING OTHERS GRIEVING Think about PEOPLE Children, Mums, Dads, Friends Every single injury and death caused by drunk driving is totally preventable. There are still far too many such preventable accidents. Unfortunately, in spite of all the warnings, advice, TV Ads, road signs, alcohol-impaired driving remains a serious problem that tragically effects many victims, families and friends. DON’T DRINK & DRIVE. Emergency 111 … Request Police, Fire, Ambulance, Rescue
Fire: Well we have had heaps of advice in this news letter about keeping yourself and your family safe, and how to see that your home is safe….NOW … THE QUESTION IS … HAVE YOU TAKEN ANY NOTICE??? Have you checked your smoke alarms? Or have you ignored all the advice and ads on TV… think how you would feel if one of your kids got severely burnt or killed due to the lack of checking your smoke alarms or putting smoke alarms in your home. DON’T PUT THIS ON THE GUNA DO LIST!!! Do it now!!!
DRINK DRIVING We have all been warned about drink driving. We all know we are not to drink & drive …!!! As the ads on the TV say …. DON’T BE A BLOODY IDIOT! Have your partys enjoy your friends and celebrate holidays but use your brains and organise your travel home or stay at your friends place. Taxis are available and in the end are cheaper than a drink driving *cket, loss of licence or living with the fact you have injured or killed another person. Remember if you kill another person or yourself you
HURT & WRECK so many people’s lives.
If you have a fire and you’re not sure what to do get out and stay out!

CC’s Bay Of Plenty Community News Letter, Phone: 021 501 200 ... Email: ccsbopcommunitynewsletter@gmail.com (Page 16) The New Year promises hope! It's *me to make our New Year's resolu*ons! How many *mes have we promised ourselves, "this year will be different, this year I will control my drinking." But for the problem drinker, with the best intentions, it repeatedly doesn’t work out that way. How long is it before our promises are broken - again- and we find ourselves drunk - again? 3 months? 1 month? A week? For more information please call 0800 229 6757 or visit AA.org.nz You are welcome to attend an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous at 11 Victoria Road Mount Manganui St Peters Hall every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. There are other meetings every day of the week in Tauranga you can get the details from the AA web site or by ringing 0800 229 6757.

Do you have pain? I recently met Brock van Leeuwen and decided to give his treatment a try. I have suffered pain for many years from falls, liWing, sprains …. Like many, scep*cal about trying new treatments I made an appointment. No pain inflected or manipula*ons Brock worked on area’s of my body… I leW wondering what this treatment was going to do for me. Within a day the scia*c nerve problem had disappeared. I had, had this problem for 3 years. The only thing I had done different was to go and have a treatment from Brock. AWer a couple weeks s*ll no scia*c problem. I revisited Brock for another treatment where he worked on my painful feet/legs. S*ll not sure about this treatment I was not ready to say the treatment worked… a day or two later aWer 2nd treatment the pain in my feet had gone … It was at this point I realised the treatment works. I have been back for more treatment and now can say I feel good … Before I went to Brock I would spend at least $30-40 on pain relief a fortnight ibuprofen, Nurofen, Panadol, Voltaren and migraine tablets … I am no longer spending $30-40 on pain relief a fortnight... I am not taking pain relief now ... I feel good. I'm struggling to come to terms that I have a body without the pain. For years I have had osteopath/chiroprac*c treatment which has not rid my problems… I'm so thankful to Brock and I highly recommend if you are in pain with your back, hips, feet, neck or head go and see this man. …. Contacts on page 11 Cindy Foster I rate this service and treatment 10/10

Stranger Danger Tips Always try to stay in sight of other people, don't go down back streets or road If you can remember the car number plate or the colour or make of car. If a stranger approaches either on foot or in a vehicle, move back from them. Don’t take any lollies or food from them If they attempt to talk to you or ask for help for any reason, don't go to them stay back. Run away as fast as you can, if you are feeling scared Try and remember what the person looks like and what they are wearing. Yell for help as you run and try to stay in sight of other people Tell someone (a teacher, a parent or police officer or any other trusted adult) about what happened immediately. Always stay alert to who's around if you are out alone or with friends, Always stay in groups If possible. It’s much safer to be in groups. Always look after each other when you are out.
FAMILY VIOLENCE CAN HARM YOUR CHILD FOR LIFE Babies and infants are precious. Everything babies and toddlers experience affects their brains forever. The way you treat your children counts – and it counts long term. Children are not tough. They are not too young to notice. They do not just get over it. Love care and attention will help children to become happy and stable adults. Shouting, hitting, violence, abuse and ignoring your child have a very bad effect on your baby’s and young child’s brain development. This can cause problems later at school; as teenagers; as adults. Parenting can be tough but one of the most important things you can do is provide a safe home, calm and free from violence for your children. If you get early help the risk of the children suffering long term effects will be less. To get help talk to someone you trust. A support agency that helps family's. Reporting child abuse Anyone can report suspected child abuse in this country and people who call Child, Youth and Family can ask to remain anonymous. Even if an investigation results in no abuse being found the law will protect you if you disclosed or supplied information in good faith. Fear of being wrong is the single most common reason people might decide not to act. People feel this way because they might be afraid of: Repercussions - being thought insensitive breaking a confidence - being disloyal. One of the best ways to overcome this fear is to equip ourselves with good knowledge and to discuss concerns early with an appropriate person. You can use the Child, Youth and Family freephone – 0508 326 459 – to sound out your concerns. If you are concerned that a child or young person is being abused, remember that their safety and wellbeing comes first. When you are reporting a concern, Child, Youth and Family will need to know as much as possible about the situation. Useful details include the name, age and ethnicity of the child or young person, the address where the child or young person can be found, and as much about the abuse or your concerns as possible.

Yum try these The roads in town are for everyone. We should expect pedestrians and cyclists. About one third of crashes are caused by SPEEDING If a child steps out 45 metres away and the vehicle is travelling at 60km/h by the time the alert driver reacts and brakes, the car will still be travelling at 44km/h when the child is hit.
There is a one in three chance that the child will die. ►If a vehicle hits a person at 50km/h, the risk of death is 40% ►If a vehicle hits a person at 60km/h, the risk of death is 70% ►If a vehicle hits a person at 70km/h, the risk of death is 96%
Kill your speed, not a child SLOW DOWN Just a reminder know where the children are when backing your car. They are fast on their feet and can put themselves in danger with out knowing it. Young children are unable to judge and understand what danger is or understand what happens if they run behind a backing car they are usually excited to see someone or go somewhere.
