OLD GRUMPY’S GALLERY…… Happy March Everyone... And Welcome to Old Grumpy’s Gallery. And once again a big thank you to all of you who have visited us during February….It is so rewarding for us to welcome you in to our unique emporium… Many of you have almost become family… we are truly blessed to have established many wonderful friendly relationships… Long may the trend continue…. Our sign outside Old Grumpy’s Gallery announces “Books, Books and More Books” and “Book Fare Every Day” Well our signs are not wrong… those of you who will be familiar with our “Banana Box Arcade” may be surprised to hear that each day we have around 3,000 books out there to choose from… It’s great to see and greet customers out on the footpath browsing through the many titles and topics available… Most priced at $1 each…Yes that’s right $1 each. Wow… this has to be the best value in town… Then step inside and be amazed with the selections on our shelves... Currently outside we are selling more than 4,000 surplus ex-library books at 3 for $1.00 Yes that’s right 3 for $1.00… Where else can you buy good quality clean books at this price level ? And remember if we don’t have the book you are looking for we will find a copy for you…. Those of you who visit Old Grumpy’s Gallery will be aware that we love our music… Not just the great range of Vinyl LP Records, the CD’s and the Collectable Images but our range of MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS…. Banana Box Arcade People often ask where we get our instruments from?.... This is another Old Grumpy’s Gallery development that pleases us. Graeme Brown who is the owner of Encore Musical Instruments was a student on one of Old Grumpy’s Gallery Photography Schools. Graeme wanted to learn how best to photograph his imported musical instruments to use in his advertising brochures… That was easy and soon Graeme began producing excellent images… But that is not all that he achieved…!! There began a relationship that has seen us become an exclusive stockist of Encore’s products… Which include Guitars, Ukuleles, Drums, Violins, Trumpets, Bugles, and a whole range of wind and string instruments…. We have supplied many dozens of different instruments to our happy and satisfied customers… Encores imported instruments are good quality competitively priced and have all the features of Big Brand names at Graeme Brown in among very reasonable and affordable prices…Our Brands are his Tauranga Stock room predominantly Gabriel and Aiersi… Graeme has been associated with Encore Musical Instruments for more than 10 years and has been the owner for the past 5 years. Encores current stock level is approaching 1,000 individual instruments….. Graeme’s motto is not to just to sell an instrument but “to keep the instrument sold” hence his back-up and support is invaluable... Maybe Old Grumpy We are delighted with our association….. To all you accomplished and Himself will serve you.. budding musicians we invite you to come along, pick up an instrument and play…. Then round off with a refreshing coffee, tea or beverage accompanied with your choice of delicious slice….. You never know Old Grumpy may serve you personally….

Minutes Like Hours By Vidhya Chandrasekaran You walk into the store and stride down the aisle. You pick me up and try to look casual while you carry me down to the checkout line. Pull out your wallet, you soon will be mine. Your friends are observing every move that you make. The clerk asks for ID-- you show him a fake. You quickly walk down to the front of the store. Your friends are waiting for you as you step out the door. You hop in the car and drive away from the shop. Then you shut off the ignition, and pop off my top. You take a few drinks and pass me around. That's when you decide to take a drive around town. You turn on your car and put your foot on the clutch. I'm sober, you think, I didn't have very much. You pull onto the road with me by your side, taking occasional sips as you enjoy the ride. Then the brakes on the car in front of you squeal. You try hard to stop, but lose control of the wheel. You skid off the road, and you know you have crashed. The dashboard is shattered, the windshield is smashed. Minutes like hours, You're in treacherous pain that washes the senses, envelops your brain. The screams all around you are faint to your ears, as life flashes before you, your hopes and your fears.

Poems From The Heart On The Inside.

Do you need it? Do you really want it? Can you afford it? Or are you clinging to baggage?

By Georgia Rose I have come across this lady Georgia Rose who has done time on the inside. These poems reflect her life, thoughts and feelings. Dedicated to her family who do the hard time on the outside. Thank you Georgia for sharing with us

Use and enjoy all that enriches your life and then let the rest go. Make a start to clean out your closet. As you get rid of the clutter in the closet you will then begin to realize that you don’t need or want as much as you thought you did.

Inside Jail time, a tedious sentence prolonged Whisper in my ear what I long to hear. Take away my loneliness, ‘tis hard to bear my loss of liberty and all my dignity. Where do we exit? In this half reality, the boredom and monotony designed to punish and draw out each day, to wear upon you like a tireless drain, without any real meaning that you can focus on. It is one day after the next for as long as it takes, on the inside.

As you get to the end of cleaning out the closet you will then start to realize that you didn't or don’t need to buy the clutter you thought you needed. You don’t need so much room or a bigger house and you didn't have to really work as many hours as you have so you could buy all those things you didn't need. You really could have spent more time with friends and family or relaxing and enjoying time out.

Minutes like hours, you plead and you pray, I'll never touch it again, just let me live one more day. Your mind starts to go dark, it falls apart piece by piece. Life on the inside and doing time. And then you slip into blackness, the pain has finally ceased. Before you entered that store, you should have thought twice, Each month I will, along with Georgia, share for I am the substance that cost you your life. This poem says it all, I hope this poem has an impact on people to make them think about drink driving

DRINK DRIVING!!! We are told and told we see ads on TV and very realistic ads, Police warnings, we lose our licences / pay fines … SO Why is it that until someone is hurt or killed this message has not sunk in??? Why are people so thick and stupid???

IT’S TOO LATE So I am going to very blunt Drivers get your shit together you drink DONT DRIVE Don’t wait till it is a Reality that YOU have wrecked people’s lives forever!

a poem in hopes it will make you take a moment to think and understand inmates and the inside life or supporting an inmate on the inside. The lives and futures of many people are affected in all ways children, wife's, husbands, relations and friends. Also the family pets, finances, and the futures. Love, trust relationships, marriages and commitments are tested and hard to hold onto from both the inside and outside life. In todays world many family's are dealing in some way with prison If anyone has anything they would like to share email ccsbopcommunitynewsletter @gmail.com share your views we invite your input. COMPLIMENTS

Everyone needs a compliment once in a while. Teenagers probably need them more than most. They are negotiating identity crises in every real sense. A compliment in front of others is especially valuable.

A Repentant Husband apologized to wife, "Honey, I got mad at you a lot, but you, a Goddess of Calm, never returned my verbal blows. How do you control your rage towards me?" Wife replied, "I start cleaning the toilet when you get mad. It helps me soothe down." Overwhelmed husband asked, "Perhaps flowing cold water, Is it?" Wife replied, "No, cleaning the toilet with your toothbrush." The child comes home from his first day at school. Mother asks, "What did you learn today?" The kid replies, "Not enough. I have to go back tomorrow." Little Johnny's new baby brother was screaming up a storm. He asked his mom, "Where'd we get him?" His mother replied, "He came from heaven, Johnny." Johnny says, "WOW! I can see why they threw him out!" Teacher: "Anyone who thinks he's stupid may stand up!" *Nobody stands up* Teacher: "Im sure there are some stupid students over here!!" *Little Johnny stands up* Teacher: "Ohh, Johnny you think you're stupid?" Little Johnny: "No... i just feel bad that you're standing alone..." .

A bloke was sent to prison and on the first day said to his cell mate, "I won't be in here long." He replied, "Well the judge did give you 6 years." "Yeah I know, but I think the wife will break me out, she's never let me finish a sentence before." Have you ever wondered why A, B, C, D, DD, E and F are the letters used to define bra sizes? If you have wondered why, but couldn't figure out what the letters stood for... It is about time you became informed: A ... Almost Boobs B ... Barely there. C ... Can't Complain! D ... Damn! DD... Double damn! E ... Enormous! F ... Fake

Punishment doesn’t work As pet owners, I’m sure we’ve all had times when our adorably cute li le friends have tested our patience to the absolute limit. Our dog, Mac, chewing the end of my husband’s surf board springs to mind as I type this! In these times, for many of us, the ďŹ rst thing that springs to mind is to punish the pet in some way. If a dog pee’s inside, rub her nose in it, right? Wrong! Although we have been told by generations of pet owners that this is the only way to stop a dog from toileting inside, what it is in fact doing is teaching the dog to be afraid of you. Yes, eventually it may work and the dog may start to toilet outside, but at the same time, whenever you raise your voice or lift your hand above your head, the dog will be terriďŹ ed (and in some cases, may pee, whether outside or not). The fact is animals often don’t understand why they are being punished, especially if the punishment comes sometime after the oence occurred. If you arrive home from work to ďŹ nd that your cat has made your brand new couch his scratching post, he will have no idea that he’s being punished for his crime and will associate you (and not scratching your couch, as you may hope) with yelling or violence. A pet that is afraid of its owner, in turn, is likely to develop other problem behaviours as it becomes more and more stressed, thus leading to a vicious cycle of unhappiness all round. So, next time your pet does the unthinkable, try not to get angry and lash out. Instead try to practice the 5th Freedom, Love and Understanding, and I promise you, everyone will be happier for it. 43 Alach Street, Greerton, Tauranga Ph.: 578 0245.

Touchscreen Stylus Pens Touchscreens on smartphones, tablets and some laptops have made things so much easier. But, fingerprints on screens, and fingers that seem to be bigger than the keyboard are tricky to deal with. Luckily it is reasonably easy to create a “pen that works on a touchscreen. As modern capacitance touchscreens use a small safe electrical circuit to function, it is possible to extend that circuit via a metal pen with a rubber or silicone tip so that the screen doesn’t get scratched. You use this touchscreen pen just like any normal pen but due to the silicone tip, you don’t press it as hard. Other than that, it works just like using your finger, but as it’s thinner you don’t get the same number of problems on the touchscreen keyboard, and you don’t get the fingerprints and smudges on the screen. They come in a variety of sizes, from normal pen size, to shorter ones that can easily fit in a phone case. Kings Computers has some in normal pen size in 5 different colours (Black, Silver, Green, Pink & Purple) for $4 each. You can also find them in your favourite computer store. I can give further advice on using your touchscreen, and which products are available for maintaining the screen, give me a call (see my ad for contact details).

CLEAN GREEN NEW ZEALAND So you go to the concerts that come to New Zealand to enjoy the entertainment giving you a great night with your friends and family. This is the result of the mess left by disgusting pigs … this would be degrading to pigs as pigs are cleaner than the human … New Zealanders are meant to be proud of our country!!! What in the world and why are people so ruthless, uncaring and disgustingly filthy with our beautiful country? … So you can’t have a good time without throwing your bottles and rubbish over the grounds? … Could you not take YOUR rubbish to the bin on the way out? It is horrifying to think that people are happy to degrade themselves by being filthy. I'm sure each and every person who go to concerts have been bought up better than this. Why do you think others should clean up your crap you are too lazy to put in a bin? Next time you go to an event put your rubbish back in your bag and discard it on the way out in the rightful manner. Early Detection The early detection of cancer means finding cancer before there are symptoms or as soon as possible after they develop. Its aim is to find the cancer before it has time to spread to other parts of the body. Early detection can help to reduce the time before diagnosis and, hopefully, lower the mortality rates for many types of cancer. It is important to always seek medical advice as soon as you notice any unusual changes. Unfortunately, while some cancers have early warning signs that are easy to identify many do not. The important message is to be aware of any changes that are out of the ordinary for you and to see a health professional as soon as possible to discuss what these changes may mean.

MARCH HOROSCOPES Aries Trust in your dreams, there is an adventure coming. You are high on energy so a very good time to channel your efforts. Pay attention to your lover and be careful with those reckless comments. Taurus Set an example even though you are confronted with mixed up and contradictory forces in relationships. Your business is your business, keeping operations private is a sensible move. Gemini Wow! You have a wonderful intellect so keep that mind open for wonderful opportunities at work. Treacherous Venus wants to attack you so avoid conflict by being polite and walk away. Cancer Opportunity for a work promotion and taking your business to the top. You may also meet your true lover! Remember to manage that delicate situation. Why not organize that party? Leo Keep your head down and get on with the job. Be obliging with stable relationships and keep the finances steady. Probably not the best month to plan a holiday. Your freedom is coming soon though. Virgo You are competent and lots of interesting new projects coming your way. However, something is bugging you which could be the result of a past mistake. Watch your back! Libra There is plenty to be hopeful about but menial life is a bit boring. Your love life stirs up heated arguments and unusual situations. Take heart because your friends are there to encourage you to be calm. Scorpio Because of your uncanny empathy, the world needs people like you. You are able to halt potential problems at work. Mid-month you will be noticed. You will reach your goals and take new initiatives. Pleasant emotions. Sagittarius Be mindful in business, there may be a cheat in your circles. Unexpected changes for your lover so be cool and manage your own reactions. Bouncing back is one of your better skills. Capricorn There is massive increase in production and a desire to be passionate in your work. Decisions create excellent outcomes. However, re-evaluate details you don’t like because fury and careless words could upset others. Aquarius At last, your precious insights with how you project temporary situations into permanent ones is now going to help you to get the right perspective. New offers by new lovers. Go on, take a holiday with your closest friends. Pisces Changes. Changes. Changes. Passionate bursts and fantasies in love. Earnings increase but listen to your relatives because you have suffered enough. There is a chance to resolve a health issue.

CC’s Bay Of Plenty Community News Letter, Phone: 021 501 200 ... Email: ccsbopcommunitynewsletter@gmail.com (Page 12) End, Change, and Move On Sometimes in life, things just end, no real reason, it all just ends, things change and people move on. Parenting our children through the teenage years is a lot like that, we all know that some way or the other our ‘kids’ are going to leave home. Sometimes home leaves the kids, it’s just time to move on. Toughlove Tauranga has just experienced this transition and moved out of its home for the past four years….and it was traumatic for all concerned. So watch this space and keep an eye on the media to learn about their plans. Moving out regardless of it being on good terms or bad can be difficult for all parties. Things change for those left behind and things also change for those who have moved out. Communication before the ‘event’ and supportive communication after the ‘event’ is vital to all to help make any move as smooth as possible for all concerned. As much as this is about moving out it is also about moving on. This could be a new school as they grow or a new school due to relocation, a move up in a social grouping (Children’s programme at a church, or Scouts or music lessons). Sometimes it is comfortable to stay where they are than make a move. Parents need to be supportive and encouraging during this time, parents who dismiss their children’s fears and worries don’t really help. Supportive parents need to take the time to talk with their children about their concerns. If the child comes out with a fear or worry at an inopportune time, Parents need to acknowledge what they heard, and then ask the child if they can talk about it later ideally giving them a time, and ensure they do get back to that child to talk further. This tells the child that the parent really does care about them, and while these ‘talks’ may seem pointless to the adult, one day there is going to be important stuff to hear and help with. These children are testing you…..seeing if they can trust you with the ‘hard stuff’ One day as a Parent you are going to want to talk with your child, and if they have had a lifetime of ‘Johnny you’re being silly’ or ‘Don’t worry that won’t happen!’ you might be the last person in the world they want to talk to…..that’s why high schools have counsellors Hopefully your children have settled into the academic year and are starting to work. You will have stories about how horrible this person is or how hard school is….this is a attempt from them to reach out and connect…… are you going to accept the attempt and connect with your kids? Have a good month Donald Welsh, B.Couns PGDipCSW

Answers Page 15

Babies and infants are precious. Everything babies and toddlers experience affects their brains forever. The way you treat our children counts – and it counts long term. Children are not tough. They are not too young to notice. They do not just get over it. Love care and attention will help children to become happy and stable adults. Shouting, hitting, violence, abuse and ignoring your child have a very bad effect on your baby’s and young child’s brain development. This can cause problems later – at school; as teenagers; as adults. Parenting can be tough but one of the most important things you can do is provide a safe home, calm and free from violence for your children. If you get early help the risk of the children suffering long term effects will be less. To get help talk to someone you trust. A support agency that helps family's. A man and a woman were asleep like two innocent babies. Suddenly, at 3 o'clock in the morning, a loud noise came from outside. The woman, bewildered, jumped up from the bed and yelled at the man 'Holy crap. That must be my husband!' So the man jumped out of the bed; scared and naked jumped out the window. He smashed himself on the ground, ran through a thorn bush and to his car as fast as he could go. A few minutes later he returned and went up to the bedroom and screamed at the woman, 'I AM your husband!' The woman yelled back, 'Yeah, then why were you running?' And then the fight started.....

Hard-boiled egg lovers can now rejoice! If you’ve ever struggled with trying to chip away at the shell of a freshly hard-boiled egg, here’s a cool new trick. Place the egg inside a small glass, fill with a few cm of cold water, cover the glass with your hand -and shake it quickly (over the sink) a few times. The egg shell comes off magically almost immediately. Crazy and it actually works!! No more messed up eggs for your salads and lunch boxes. Watch MicahMedia’s short demo video on YouTube.

Most of us have been unwilling to admit that we were real alcoholics. No person likes to think he is bodily and mentally different from his fellows. Therefore, it is not surprising that our drinking careers have been characterized by countless vain attempts to prove that we could drink like other people. The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker. The persistence of this illusion is astonishing. Many pursue it into the gates of insanity or death. We learned that we had to fully concede to our innermost selves that we were alcoholics. This is the first step in recovery. The delusion that we are like other people, or presently may be, has to be smashed. Standard Reoccurring information:Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. For more information please call 0800 229 6757 or visit AA.org.nz You are welcome to attend an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous at 11 Victoria Road Mount Maunganui St Peters Hall every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm.
