Here we are in May day light saving has gone and the evenings closing in earlier with a chill to them. Winter is on its way. So saying this maybe a good time to raise the awareness of when was the chimney cleaned? Nothing like a fire in winter to keep warm. If you're unsure book a chimney cleaner and make sure you are clear of any problems that may cause losing your home. What is the condition of your heater/s are they in good working condition clean of dust and cords in good order? Electric blankets also need servicing to make sure they are not faulty. Also make sure you don’t sleep with them turned on. Make sure you have smoke detectors and that they are working … Don’t live in regret because you didn’t have smoke alarms in and working … they could save your home and family. Make sure you dress to keep warm, fashion is not everything. Looking after yourself making sure you are warm may help you to keep healthy and flu/cold free. If you get sick stay at home DON’T share your bugs around the work place. Cover your mouth when coughing/sneezing and use tissues flush them in toilet and keep your hands washed to help prevent the spread of coughs, colds and flu. Here’s hoping winter is not too harsh on us. There will be a lot of winter sport with Football, Netball, Hockey take care round the sports ground areas as there will be a lot of children. Parents maybe a good time to congratulate those who support their children within their sport. A reminder to parents not to get too excited on the side lines yelling at your child, cursing at the refs. Remember your children are trying to enjoy their sport and they really are trying hard to achieve the goals and they get disappointed enough when they don’t succeed without you yelling at them to do better. Coaches and Refs give up their time to support children theirs and others, give them a break, show them appreciation. Remember it is a game and it will bring joy and disappointment to young players/teams. Adults are supposed to be the roll models, not everything will go yours or your child's way. The sausages cooked in this Air Fryer were supposed to be reasonably healthy low fat ….. These photos show the fat from 1/2 dozen sausages cooked in the air fryer. If these had been cooked in the oven and plated to eat, I'm sure a lot of this fat would have been consumed?... And we wonder why we are heaver than we should be. Eating these sausages from the air fryer had a very different taste to them and didn't leave you with the fatty yuk feeling after eating them. Visitors commented on the difference of taste and texture of them. Looking at these picture really show that this is a lot of fat from just 6 sausages…. I cooked chicken drum sticks again there was a fair amount of fat in the bottom of the pan … the chicken was tender and had a nice golden crispy skin, it was very noticeable the different taste and enjoyable to eat. I recommend the air fryer to you for a much healthier way to cook your meals. … I rate this machine 10/10 …. Place your meat, chips, rissoles, chops, steaks in … turn on the cooking time and walk away …. Return to healthy cooked food and enjoy. The cleaning of this machine is easy wash with hot water wipe/dry with paper towel. Nice compact cooker producing good food. ….. C Foster
Do you have yearly health checks? If not, why not? Our body's are just like our technical devices and for that matter our cars. We maintain our devices and cars so why not our bodies? Life today is fast living full on with stress and worries and we expect our bodies to work, function and keep going. Most of us work our bodies hard and yet many of us don’t go and have a check up until the body breaks down and stops us in our tracks. Many of us are not eating the correct food causing health issues Obesity. Then for some the use of drugs, alcohol and smoking We feel like crap and look like crap but we still push for more from our working frame.
Guys this means you too not just us lady's you should have your check ups your body is no different from us females. Well I mean you just have different things to have checked out to keep the given frame working... You don’t need to be shy about having to produce your charming feature to the doctor for the prostate check… Embarrassing??? Come on boys, guys and studs you should be pleased you don’t have to have the good old female check ups … Oh yes dudes gals have more to deal with than the good old males… with the Vaginal check up … we have the lye down, open wide, just relax (like yeah right) and prodding displaying all our jewels … Then the Mammograms Squashing our gorgeous boobies between plates … so come on guys put ya modest pride away have the checks done, it’s better to find problems early and seek the treatments early rather than be the too late case. By the way guys it’s not uncommon for some guys to have mammograms
We all need to have the Blood Pressure tested: High blood pressure can damage the heart and kidneys. It can also lead to heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. Weight/BMI: Being overweight increases your risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Bowel Checks are important … yep your poo can tell many things about your health … again nothing to be shy of … you know you should always keep check on your stools are they runny or showing blood in them, are they firm and what the colour is and are they frequent / or are you constipated … yep your poo is pretty important to keep track of. Urine Tests The small urine sample can be tested for many problems. Colour/smell can indicate problems. Urine infections can make you very ill in many ways. Blood Tests Scared of needles? Come on man up it’s really not that bad. Scans Are you aware of the Medical History of your parents and grandparents? Don’t forget Regular Dental Exam helps protect your oral health and monitor for signs of other problems. Did you know dental infection can spread to other parts of your body and cause more serious infections?. Eyes can be the cause of headaches/migraines due to not being able to see properly … Eye Exams also tell many things about you. Of course there are so many more tests that may be required for some. Some tests are not for everyone, everyone is unique and require different things. Just put away the embarrassment and pride and go and have regular check ups. It’s no good when it’s too late and you sure are not any good to yourself or your family . Our bodies deserve the love, care and respect with a lot of pampering they work hard. When you seek treatment and you rid the pain you have suffered for so long it is then you start to think … Why did I not seek this sooner? Look after your body live life to the max with good health. By the way looking up stuff on the internet is not always or in many cases going to give you the right answers. The best you can do is balance your life with exercise and good healthy eating, don’t smoke limit alcohol and get good rest and sleep. Treat yourself to some me time doing something you enjoy and can relax with. An old saying “you don’t know what you have lost until you have lost it” don’t live in regret, make an appointment. Thumbs Up: Hello CC’s I have a thumbs up for Mount Maunganui RSA. We were visiting the Mount and were trying to find a place to dine. We were directed to the RSA and we had tea in the diner. The food was amazing, nicely cooked and presented in hot dishes with a beautiful range of food. While we dined we also enjoyed the music that was performed from Sparx. When we left we picked up a CC’s News Letter we saw the Thumbs Up/Down column and thought it would be nice to put a thumbs up in this great News Letter. Thumbs down: Sugar sugar & sugar warnings rrrrrr The government could fix this by setting down a law to remove 1/2 the sugar from all products!!! This could be done gradual so people ease into less sugar. It is bad for us and we don’t need it. Wattie’s, Oak, Basic’s, Fizz drink, Ice-cream, confectionery companies get responsible and remove some of the sugar from your products!!! Everyone needs to take responsibility for this instead of dollars being the greed in everyone's hands. Make it sweet to sell more. Violence
Many people believe that Domestic violence is only physical abuse. However, Domestic violence takes many different forms. It may also be psychological, sexual, financial or spiritual violence. Physical Violence includes hitting, pinching, spitting, slapping, pushing, punching, kicking, burning, stabbing, strangulation, suffocating & shooting. It may also include threats to cause harm. Psychological Violence (sometimes referred to as emotional or verbal abuse) includes put-downs, name calling, jealousy, harassing, screaming, using degrading language, insults, criticism, harming pets or animals, isolation from family and friends, and threats to leave the relationship or to commit suicide if the victim does not co-operate

Coping with change is often challenging. It can create fear, uncertainty, doubt and stress. But it can also create incredible opportunities for learning and growth. This workshop is all about individuals learning to deal with their own reactions to change and how to become more resilient to change. Civil Defence TXT Alerts
Have you subscribed to receive text alerts? Text alerting is just one of several platforms that Bay of Plenty Civil Defence uses to alert and inform the community. Anyone can subscribe for free to the text and email alerting system through the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence website www.BOPCivilDefence.govt.nz, or text the two letters for the area you live to 2028 (a one off 20c text fee applies). The texts will be sent only for serious threats to life and property, such as National tsunami warnings, and in the event of major earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, where time is of the essence in getting people to take action. You will not be inundated with texts as this system will only be used for significant threats to life or property where time is critical. Civil Defence will continue to use media, the website and social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter for other alerts, warnings and general information/public education. Even if you live out of the region but have friends, family or property and business interests in the Bay, you may wish to sign up for text and email alerts. Nowadays most people have a cellphone, from children to the elderly, and this is just one other way you can stay informed and updated if something happens. Get all your family, friends, neighbours and workmates to sign up, and be better prepared in the event of an emergency. Drink: Monitor your drink intake. Intoxication puts you in a vulnerable place for danger (disputes, rape, Alcatraz lockup) Don’t make an idiot of yourself that you can’t remember and regret. Carry some morals with you while out having fun. Don't scull or mix your drinks. Groups: You are far more safe by staying in groups or with a friend. Take extra care if out on your own.
Spiking Drinks: Buy your own drink. Don’t leave your drink un-attended!!! Keep your drink in sight at all. I often see social media clips and posts about parenting and this one caught my eye recently times and know who is around you. Don’t share drinks - this can be a danger. It could be spiked. There are no perfect children
There are no perfect parents There are only perfect moments
So lets understand that all children are going to be challenging sometimes, or more often than not once they become teenagers! You as the parent need to take the pressure off, there are going to be times you will not perform to your expectation as a parent, forgive yourself, lower your expectations and move on. As parents of teenagers you will be told often how good a parent you are! However all parents need to look for those perfect moments as they don’t happen very often and they will stay in your memory for a long time. One of mine was one summer night we had only one child with us and our toddler was just walking well enough to leave a pram at home, we went to a burger place at the Mount. After dinner we walked down the main street with Toddles wandering along with us, dancing and jumping for joy. I think she was happy to be with us and able to move around the footpath instead of being in a pushchair. That was a few years ago as Toddles is now a young teenager, and things have changed! Perfect moments might be getting fewer and further between, but they still happen. As parents we just need to keep our eyes and ears open. However we need to keep our hearts open as well, if we are too busy running between jobs, or stressing over the mortgage (especially in Tauranga & The Mount) we may very well miss these moments. Think of these opportunities as windows and doors opening and closing at random, and you have to decide if you can get though that opening and into your child’s life for a while. I want to talk to Dad’s here, so if your sons are playing blocks on the lounge floor when you get home, play with them. Your teenager is playing horrendous music rather loudly and driving mother mad, don’t yell at them to turn it down, ask them what they get out of the music, or what they hear from the words. You may not like the music, but you like the kid so get into their life. As much as getting through an opening in your child’s life will help you understand them better and give you a ‘foot in’ when it’s time to teach them or help them with questions these perfect moments are often something that both sides share and sometimes for different events. These perfect moments help to strengthen our parenting journey, as long as we are open to seeing them. So spend the next month looking for one, or even two. Have a good month Donald Welsh
