A Rip Is Identified By:

Discoloured or murky brown water caused by sand stirred up off the bottom A smoother surface with much smaller waves, with waves breaking either side Debris floating out to sea A rippled look, when the water around is generally calm Rip currents carry people away from the shore. Rip currents are surface currents, not undertows. An undertow is a short-lived, sub-surface surge of water associated with wave action If you're caught in a rip current, stay calm, conserve your energy. Raise your arm and call out. Float with the current. It may return you to a shallow sandbank. Swim parallel. The best way to survive a rip current is to stay afloat and yell for help. You can also swim parallel to the shore to escape the rip current. This will allow more time for you to be rescued or for you to swim back to shore once the current eases.

Always be alert and swim in the area with other people and a presents of Life Guards

What Are We Doing? Why Do We Drink So Much Fizz?

Its that time year when we start to clean up round the place so off to the dump we went and while we were paying at the booth I looked across and it hit me. The bins of fizz drink bottles, wine bottles and booze/fizz cans, it’s great that we recycle but it made me realize how serious it is the amount of crap we are putting into our bodies, and then we wonder why we have health issues and we are over weight. Hey and I am no exception to this as I sure put enough crap through my lips and yes I moan about the weight I am carrying. Maybe just take a moment to think about your recycling and what is in it and how much crap your family is consuming. Think about what you are feeding your children, what is their weight, are you putting them and yourself at risk of diabetes. We all know here in New Zealand we have become obese, unfit, and unhealthy. We all know it is up to each individual to control what you put in your mouth. However young children eat what the adults supply to them and they don’t understand that crap food is not good for them because it tastes so good and it’s what is being dished up to them. This photo is just the fizz bottles, when you next go to the dump just stop for a moment and look at the bins … its shocking to think we humans consume so much.

This makes me think of Nigel Latta’s show on sugar So much sugar in our food and we don’t even know we are eating it. Nigel says for us to improve our health, weight and fitness we need to refrain from eating foods with sugar. Cut ALL soft drinks and sugared drinks, lollies, sweets, chocolates etc biscuits, cakes, muffins, slices, buns, bakery products, cheesecakes, etc. .desert foods: ice-cream, frozen desserts, sugary puddings breakfast cereals – most cereals are made from highly refined grains, with a lot of added sugar. Cut down on refined grain products, that is foods made from white flour refined grains (cereals, bread and bakery products) as these turn into glucose very quickly during digestion. Because we have eaten so much junk food for so long we think it would be too hard to stop. I guess this is a decision for each individual to make on how much you love life and want to live longer and feel healthy and of course look good. So it’s a new year and many of us make New Year Resolutions how about putting healthy eating on your list for you and your family. Don’t go cold turkey by trying to cut everything out … take small tangible steps to achieve your goal.
