DOCTV: A PLACE FOR LATIN AMERICA TO COME TOGETHER Integration has always been a goal and a challenge in Latin America. DOCTV Latin America was created to respond to this challenge and to contribute to the cultural, social, and economic integration of the continent. The Conference of Ibero-American Cinematographic Authorities (CACI) designed this program to promote Latin American documentary co-production and distribution, by building bridges to foster communication and cooperation in the region. DOCTV Latin America also seeks to support production in each Latin American country, by creating a network based on local content that is then distributed and exhibited throughout the continent. The program, which works for cultural mediation and the distribution of Latin American documentaries throughout the region and the world, is now celebrating its tenth anniversary. During these years, CACI has seen that documentaries have served as a tool for discovering and learning more about our cultures, and that these documentaries have fostered exchange between cultures that were isolated from each other in spite of their physical proximity. Regional distribution of our documentary production has undoubtedly contributed to creating common ground where there had been barriers. DOCTV Latin America has managed to build a network of 21 public television networks that unite the continent and exhibit films from the 17 participating countries. This unprecedented regional initiative is a true example of a cultural space shared by all of the participating countries. Our successful efforts continue to bring us new productions every year. Building on these accomplishments, the fifth edition of DOCTV Latin America for the first time required that each of the 17 participating documentaries from across the continent be united by a single theme: “Happiness." We present here the 17 DOCTV Latin America documentaries, which tell very different stories but whose characters speak from a shared perspective: they all chose their own unique path in pursuit of happiness. We bring to you: We choose happiness.

It shakes our organs; it moves us. Together with a cast of unusual characters, La felicidad del sonido takes us on a sensory journey; a reflection on nature, community life, loneliness, and silence...
