FILMING LOCATION Pará (Brazil) DEVELOPMENT PHASE Pré-production SYNOPSIS Every year, 2 million people head to
the streets of Belém do Pará, in the Amazon region, to attend Círio de Nazaré, one of the largest Catholic processions in the world, honoring Our Lady of Nazareth, the patron saint of Belém, affectionately called Nazinha. The crowd of barefoot supplicants struggles to get a hand on the rope pulling the vehicle, which represents the link between the Saint and her followers. Among them, we find groups of convicts from Para State penitentiaries, who are granted temporary release to attend the four-day party - a unique Brazilian tradition, happening only in Pará. This penitentiary system has become the stage of a battle of
faith between Protestants and Catholics. The first have attracted more and more catholic believers to their religion, by being supportive in times of need and by promising salvation. The Protestants strongly oppose to praying or worshiping saints. Nevertheless, due to Nazinha’s idolatry, many convicts, despite their faith, attend the celebration. They join the crowd but often runaway, gaining freedom through the Saint, who has the origin myth of fleeing whenever she was locked in a chapel. Following the convicts/characters we will try to understand what worshiping Nazinha means to them. What are they really seeking when they attend the procession? Worshipping Her or just running away? That is Nazinha, a film about choices and faith, but also about how we can manipulate our faith – and other’s to serve our own purposes.

The historian arrived at a frightening fact: Brazilian Nazis took fifty black boys from an orphanage in Rio de Janeiro to the ranch where the bricks were found. The boys were made slaves by a family that was part of the cream of the crop of the political and economic oligarchy in early 20th century Brazil. With the fall of Hitler, the family aborted the project and left the boys to their own devices. The film follows the life of two survivors, Aloísio Silva and Argemiro Santos, who are willing to share their stories for the first time.
