THE ARCHITECT, DESIGNER OF THE FUTURE As a young architect there exist numerous ways for me to take and impact the world. I see architecture as a means to an end, a way to express my art and see the world through a different lens, to develop as a professional for the good of my community. I am the craftsman of my own future, but also a citizen of the world and responsible of its well-being. As architects nothing is certain except for one thing. To dedicate ourselves to our work, strive for quality and have also in mind the people who will live in the spaces we create, big or small. For our creations will be either our heritage or our tombs.

01. MANIFESTO The project is conceived from en earlier concept I made from a videogame. I of course adapted the design to fit the needs of the context and the project. But I tried to keep the same atmosphere as my vision, embracing the interaction between the buildings and nature. The project simply manifests the complex nature and needs of the site into a built form, result in a chain reaction of unexpected events and situations. The purpose of this project is to create a sustainable community of students, with a sense of connection with the environment. It is sort of a mini campus where each module works seemlesly with the others in terms of energy production and consumption. Taking advantage from the river San Gervasio the village can create energy and store it in tesla batteries. The project makes use of photovoltaic
solar panels to also help fullfill the energy demands. The exceeding energy may be sold to external parties. Using natural objects a microclimate is created to lessen the impact to environment while maintaining a high level of comfort. Other strategies are implemented as well such as heatpumps, sustainable

insulation and many other passive strategies. The objective regarding the houses was to reduce as much as we can the carbon footprint of the students through passive and active strategies. The desing of the houses helps them adapt to the different weather conditions of winter and summer.
FROM CONCEPT TO MODEL TO PROJECT My design process was quite interesting in this course. After studying my concept art I translated certain aspects to create a habitable space, transitioning to a more current style of architecture. The architectural program and the implemented strategies helped to further develop the house. Some of the strategies used were ground pre-cooling/heating, triple glazing low emission windows, cross ventilation and geothermic heatpumps.

01. MANIFESTO The premise of the project was quite interesting. A prison in the middle of a city, currently abandoned but nevertheless part Chile´s history. Our aim was to create a versatile space, free for people to cross, the opposite of what a prison is. The design process for this project started with a thorough investigation of the site, the different facades, typologies, materials, and atmospheres which create the environment. I did my best at trying to determine what type of atmosphere was best to portray. The result was a combination of shadows and lights. Like a prison the project showcases a dark exterior, but within, life thrives in dynamic terrain. Much like a playground, people may go down, up, across, right, left. Spatial awareness was a key concept in the elaboration of the project.
“When I start, my first idea for a building is with the material. I believe architecture is about that. It´s not about paper, it´s not about forms. It´s about space and material.” - Peter Zumthor.

The result was a mixed use/residential project that unifies the main avenues of Talca City. A convergence point for people to meet and live. Where once was a site that expressed oppression of liberty now lies a space that exudes freedom.

01. MANIFESTO This was a small project in the park Medaglie d´Oro in Florence, Italy. The main objective was to refurbish and renovate the park which current state wasn´t able to attract visitors and provide proper open public spaces for the neighbourhood. I paid close attention to how materials work together. I also tried to play with different materials to create a sensation of a dynamic park. The programme consisted of a playground, a dog park, calisthenics equipment, a sandpit, a football court, a petanque playground, a water mirror, and a chalet. The design process started with the necessary entrances to the park, then, by joining these points we create different paths and spaces. It is in these spaces left where the programme was installed. This was indeed a small project but during times of the pandemic, it made me realize the importance of parks and the connection to nature they provide.

This is latest project in which I partook. From a group of 3 member we developed an urban/landscape project in Puebla, México. The premise of this collaboration was to connect two neighbourhoods divided not only physically by the Atoyac River but also socioeconomically. For our luck, each side had characteristics that may benefit the other, thus we decided to design a corridor along a section of the river with various bridges so the result can be a symbiotic relation between both neighbourhoods. Along the corridor one may find many parks which serve as infrastructure perks and spaces of interaction for the neighbourhood with less advantages. Quite remarkably, the neighbourhood with less urban infrastructure has more local business. Consequently, we proposed a market, a conglomeration of small business, so one side may attract the other with its strong economy while the other offered parks and connections to the bigger, commercial plazas and malls. An important characteristic of the zone was that in rain season the river´s

water level rises significantly. In the corridor we proposed two ways of communication, an upper main trail, and a lower secondary trail near the riverbed. On dry season the lower trail wants to connect the user with nature. Along the lower trail one may find floodable parks. My contribution in this project was focused more on the landscape side, the corridor. The red colour of the rails on the bridge are designed based on an ancient Asian belief which says. “An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.” I believe these bridges will not only physically connect people, but they will take part in numerous interesting stories, perhaps lovers will meet, friends, family. A spiritual connection.

TYPE: PHOTOREALISTIC RENDER TOOLS & PROGRAMS: 3DS MAX//V-RAY & PHOTOSHOP
+ I learned to experiment with illustration, to create portraits from a photograph, to complete them with analog techniques and to colour them with digital watercolors in Adobe Photoshop with a graphic tablet.
+ In this course I learned how to use the 3D Studio Max program, its plugins, I discovered composition tricks, framing and how to integrate the project with Photoshop.
Project description: I saw in depth the possibilities of Photoshop brushes and learned how to take full advantage of the different settings.
Project description: Through a course I learned key tips on 3D modeling when raising the basic structure of a construction (walls, pavement, ceilings, partitions). I was also guided in the elaboration of the carpentry tasks from scratch and to create some details such as the furniture to achieve a more realistic result.
I learned as well how to create a digital brush that simulates graphite to create the base of the portrait, and then to create personalized digital watercolor brushes starting from watercolor stains, India ink and watercolour graphite.
Once the home was designed, I created the environment closest to the house and a particular atmosphere.
I learned to create a moodboard, which inspired me and helped me create the final composition of my project. From reference photographs I made the sketch with the graphite brush. Then I applied colour and used digital watercolor brushes to add depth and dynamism to the illustration. Finally, I applied textures, filters and effects.
At this point, it was time to play with the composition and lighting of the final photo, the position of the camera and the basic VRAY presets to obtain quick images that allowed me to do light tests. Later I learned to texturize the elements of architecture and define the environment by adding interior furniture (sofas, chairs, lamps, books, cups) in the scene. Finally, I carried out the final render and post-production touch-ups in Photoshop to finish adjusting colors, contrasts, materials or adding people to the snapshot.
18 | STATEMENT OF INTEREST
STATEMENT OF INTEREST Since I was a little boy, I was always drawn towards my environment and often question the beautiful differences between the spaces where I was. I paid attention for example, to how I felt when I was at home, the view I could see through my room´s window the perfect combination between the trees and houses, a peaceful atmosphere. And when I was in the city, the urban landscape topped with skyscrapers and filled with non-stop noises and people walking from one side to the other, each their own little worlds. I’ve noticed how all that conforms the space where one founds himself to be, like the materials, the light, the mood, the intention, the sounds, all has its purpose and it creates an identity of the space, unique. I felt I wanted to be part of this design, to be a designer of my space and hopefully transmit something to others, like others have to me. I´ve found a noble purpose, create something real that transmits numerous intangible sensations to others, like a craftsman of emotions. Through middle school and high school, I found enjoyment in just drawing whatever I wanted. I often found my self in trouble at school because I even daydreamed while drawing in class. Dozens of notebooks filled with drawings, from superheroes to animals, even famous buildings. My passion for drawing caught the attention of my parents who thankfully welcomed it and helped me search to further improve my technique. We´ve looked through various courses, like comic book drawing, painting, sculpture, but I wasn’t quite certain about what type of art I wanted to practice. We stumbled upon an art school, an institute really. They gave us a tour and I was instantly interested in everything it had to offer. This art institute specialized in Italian renaissance art, so the courses ranged from anatomy drawing, oil painting, sculpture, engraving, art conservation and Italian language courses. I was captivated by the beauty and elegance of the ancient mayor artists and the Italian style. This is where I fell in love and understood art. Unfortunately, at the time I was 12 years old, and the institute really taught undergraduates and graduate courses, so everyone there was older than me. My parents convinced them of testing me so I could prove them I was able to keep up with them, and I did. For about 4 years I practiced anatomy drawing and oil painting through glazes which was the most used technique during renaissance times. I just had fun painting and drawing, designing, because I felt I was creating something, truly making something. So, when the time came to choose a career to study, I was immediately drawn to architecture, because even if I was creating something with my drawings and paintings, I felt I wasn’t creating an impact, a physical impact. Just plastic arts were for me too subjective. So, for me architecture was the perfect combination of art and logic, construction, the materialization of an idea, a design and how it directly impacts other people’s lives. It felt like it was my vocation, to put my abilities, my art at the service of others and at the same time fulfilling my childhood interests of phenomenology of spaces, to find what makes a space unique and how it influences our experience or our perception of it. During my undergraduate studies I learned to design houses, buildings, bridges, parks and what not, I learned to appreciate the architectural object. But I was also interested on how this object interacts with its surroundings, what role does the environment play in the design of a building. Every subsequent semester I focused more and more on how to make the most of the environment, how to draw inspiration from the context and make the building or object fit seamlessly in the urban landscape of a city. That is when I learned about landscape architecture. For me Landscape architecture is something I was looking for in the immensity of the art and design sea of possibilities. Mostly because it involves more directly nature. I find that the use of natural objects to embellish or complement an architectural object to be fun and its own art. Over my life I´ve considered parks, campuses, streetscapes, trails, plazas, and other outdoor areas to have an immediate emotional impact not just for their intended users but for everyone that happens to be there. I feel like each space is like a stage where everyone can be an actor and provide a meaningful story, love story, sad story, happy story. But now more than ever I think the role of the landscape architect is of high importance. The proper balance and design of natural and built objects will set the difference for the future of our planet. I´ve visited Calgary before and fell in love with the equilibrium of nature and city in its landscape. I´m completely certain studying a Master of Landscape Architecture program at this university will help me further understand the delicate design of the intangible, the phenomenology of spaces and its impact on our well-being.
