S Shirley Jackson is largely known for her hauntingly beautiful writings. Much like her literary work, Shirley’s personal life was riddled with twists and turns. Shirley was born in 1916 and brought up in Burlingame, California, in a two-story home located in the San Francisco suburbs. From a very young age, her love for writing was evident. Despite her mother Geraldine’s disapproval, writing was all she wanted to do in her free time. Geraldine’s parenting style was very conservative and Shirley’s rebellious nature clashed with it, giving birth to a toxic environment. Their contradictory nature was one of the reasons why her mother almost unapologetically preferred her son Barry over Shirley. Instances like these didn’t help their already sour mother-daughter relationship. To make things worse, her parents were hoping to keep an eye on her studies when she attended the close by the University of Rochester. But things didn’t go as planned, as Shirley wasn’t completely content at Rochester and took a year-long break from her studies.

14

After her time off she soon transferred to Syracuse University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Things improved at Syracuse, and Shirley effectively progressed in her creative and social endeavors. Moreover, she also met her husbandto-be, Stanley Edgar Hyman. Her first story Janice was recognized and published by Syracuse and she was made the editor of their campus magazine.

received high praise and was called “A Perfect Novel” by her publisher Roger Straus. However, the publishing house called it a psychological horror story, and Jackson wasn’t happy about it.

Continuing the Writing Journey

Her fifth novel was published in 1959, and it was called The Haunting of Hill House. The novel was based on a group of people participating in a paranormal study at a supposedly haunted mansion. The Haunting of Hill House remains one of her most celebrated works, which was also adapted into a movie called The Haunting. Renowned writer Stephen King described the novel as one of the most important novels of the 20th century.

More than five decades after her demise, Shirley’s writing still has a stronghold on modern readers. Her writing journey was made especially impressive by the way she simultaneously managed her parental duties and her writing career. To put things into perspective, when her first novel The Road to Wall published in 1948, Shirley was a mother to four children.

Her biggest breakthrough, however, came when The New Yorker released her story, The Lottery. In reaction to the published story, the magazine received a record 300 letters that were mostly hateful. Despite public outrage, the story is considered one of the most influential stories of the 20th century. Jackson responded to the hateful reaction in the San Francisco Chronicle issue, and said: “Explaining just what I had hoped the story to say is very difficult. I suppose I hoped, by setting a particularly brutal ancient rite in the present and in my own village, to shock the story’s readers with a graphic dramatization of the pointless violence and general inhumanity in their own lives.” Apart from The Lottery, Jackson also published several other writings, including novels like Hangsaman in 1951. Her 1954 novel The Bird’s Nest

Four years later, she published her novel The Sundial, which revolved around a wealthy family that was chosen to survive the Apocalypse. Going forward, she published two memoirs: Life among The Savages and Raising Demons.

Mid-Life Health Concerns Before her novel The Haunting Hill was published, Jackson suffered from a series of health issues, both physical and mental. That included chronic Asthma, Dizziness, Exhaustion, and fainting spells. At the time, therapy was working well to improve her mental health issues. As things continued to progress, she was again active in the writing field and other activities in 1964, including rounds of speaking engagements at writers’ conferences. Despite these health troubles, she continued writing and publishing her works. One of her novels at the time, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, was deemed one of the “Ten Best Novels” of 1962 by Time Magazine. Furthermore, she also planned a new novel that deviated from her previous writing genres titled Come Along with Me in 1964.

Several of Shirley’s writings were published after her death. Her husband, Stanley Edgar, released her unfinished novel Come Along with Me in addition to 14 other short stories in 1968. It also included three lectures she gave at colleges and writers’ conferences in her last years. Years after she died in 1996, a crate containing Jackson’s unpublished stories was found in a barn behind her house. An amalgamation of some of these stories and other uncollected stories of hers was published in 1996, under the title Just an Ordinary Day. In 2015, a collection of her essays and stories titled Let Me Tell You was released. Later in 2020, her short story Adventure on a Bad Night was published in The Strand Magazine. Legacy and Impact on Society As a writer, Shirley Jackson always struggled to get the deserved attention. Even in her marital life, her husband was in the limelight, when Shirley was the one financially supporting both of their lifestyles. The world mostly recognizes her as a writer who wrote “The Lottery.” But her writing was much more nuanced than that. Many celebrated writers such as Stephen King, Jonathan Lethem, Joyce Carol Oates, and Neil Gaiman have praised and admired her writings, helping promote her work along the way. In the preface of Shirley’s posthumous anthology of her work, her husband mentions how she refused to be interviewed or to promote her work in any way. He says this was because she believed her books would speak for her clearly enough. A significant part of Shirley Jackson’s writings encapsulates her own challenges and the worries of American Women before the second-wave feminist movement. As a passionate writer, she had to strategically manage her personal life in such a way that it wouldn’t hinder her writing ambitions. Despite these barriers, Shirley Jackson broke through and remains one of the most influential writers who paved the path for future writers.

A Journey of Excellence CBH Homes embarked on a journey 31 years ago, crafting dreams into homes one by one. This commitment led the company to the pinnacle of the industry–the #1 home builder in Idaho and #48 nationwide. Its success is a testament to the power of word-ofmouth endorsement, a reflection of the satisfaction of homeowners who spread the word. With a thriving community of 25,000 homeowners, CBH Homes stands strong, propelled by collective efforts. Gratitude, humility, and amazement characterize its approach. It recognizes and appreciates every contribution—from those who wielded hammers to those who facilitated closings.

while she urgently sought employment, leading her to a rapid introduction to the dynamic realm of cellular tower sales and marketing. Eagerly, she dived in, thriving in the high-speed environment where “more” was the norm. Among the hustle, a remarkable woman, Michelle, a corporate executive, stood out. With her impeccable style and demeanor, Michelle’s presence commanded attention. One day, the unexpected happened. Approaching Ronda’s desk, Michelle, recognizing Ronda’s standout performance, invited her to be part of an exciting venture–to spearhead and manage a division in Las Vegas.

Beyond construction, CBH Homes has achieved the distinction of being an Idaho Best Place to Work. The company’s workplace culture reflects its dedication to employee satisfaction, illustrating its commitment to fostering an environment of purpose and fulfillment. The journey of CBH Homes is one of collaboration, community, and continuous excellence, showcasing what can be accomplished through passion.

The answer was unequivocal–a resounding “yes.” This decision marked a turning point. The exuberant confirmation of commitment propelled Ronda into a thrilling partnership. The journey that followed was one of seizing opportunities. Ronda immersed herself in her new role, soaking up knowledge, embracing challenges, and becoming the driving force Michelle had recognized. The young professional who once wondered about the impressive woman in the baby blue Jaguar was now a rising star.

Lesson 1: Seizing Opportunities

A Lesson in Initiative

For over three decades, Ronda has found her passion in New Home Construction, a journey marked by a key piece of advice: “Go faster.” Looking back, her counsel is simple yet profound – the pace one embraces is directly proportional to their success in this field. However, an important “no” had to be spoken before starting this life-altering career.

Ronda’s mantra is clear: Don’t wait to be told what to do. Do it. Waiting for instructions is counterproductive. Instead, seize opportunities, initiate action, and make things happen. Ronda’s experience teaches that true progress emerges when individuals actively engage, unafraid to take the lead.

In 1993, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Ronda and her fiancé, fresh out of college, embarked on new chapters. He joined Bechtel Construction for airport work

Another facet of the lesson: Don’t wait to be trained or given all the information. Read, watch, find, and seek it out. Acquiring knowledge is not confined to formal training. Ronda

advises relentless learning, urging individuals to pursue information through various avenues. In the dynamic world of construction, adaptability and resourcefulness are prized qualities. She believes work hours and key areas given to by employers are the bare minimum expected out of one. Do more. Seriously, do more. Ronda’s principle centers on exceeding expectations. While meeting minimum requirements suffices, the extra effort distinguishes outstanding professionals. Going beyond the norm creates a lasting impact.

24

The path to advancement is guided by personal drive: There is no set timeline or path. One decides how fast to move up based on attitude, actions, and energy. The journey is self-directed. Predetermined schedules don’t bind success; individual dedication, choices, and enthusiasm determine it. Ronda underscores her lesson with a resounding call: Be so good they can’t ignore you. Exceptionalism is the ultimate strategy. By honing skills and consistently delivering exceptional results, professionals become indispensable, warranting attention and advancement.

Navigating Uncharted Waters Guided by a mentor’s wisdom, Ronda found herself in a new management role entrusted with establishing an entire division. The challenge was monumental: assemble a team, set up an office, and operationalize it in days. Armed with determination, Ronda embarked on the task. With a directive to hire specific roles and furnish the office, she embraced the challenge with open arms. The timeline was tight, and Ronda’s solution-oriented approach propelled her forward. In the heart of Las Vegas, urgency filled the air.

C OV E R S T O RY Ronda’s commitment was firm. Over six intense days, she worked relentlessly, determined to meet the daunting deadline. The result? An office that was up and running with clockwork precision. Ronda’s tale reveals a harmonious team united under her capable management. The division thrived, rewarded by appreciation bonuses and a flourishing environment. But the most impactful chapter was yet to unfold. Amidst the triumph, an unforeseen call shattered the routine. Ronda’s mentor, Michelle, disclosed a seismic change. The news was staggering: The division would be raided by the FBI. Urgent steps were needed to navigate the storm. With unparalleled composure, Ronda absorbed the blow. Her mission was clear: orchestrate layoffs, safeguard sensitive information, and dismantle the office. Michelle’s support had turned into an exit strategy. Ronda’s dedication and initiative had to be redirected in a surreal twist. Ronda’s journey reached an unforeseen crossroads. The mentor who had propelled her career now bid her a sudden goodbye. With gratitude and poise, Michelle left Ronda with a parting message, echoing her potential to succeed. Lesson 2: Saying Yes to the Unfamiliar As an example of her career’s first lesson, “Go faster,” Ronda encourages proactivity, urging individuals not to wait for instructions but rather to take initiative. Prompted by necessity, Ronda swiftly joined the fast-paced cellular tower sales and marketing world. The vibrant environment

resonated with her hunger for knowledge and growth, propelling her to become an indispensable asset. Amid the bustling corridors of her work, Ronda’s trajectory encountered a pivotal moment – an encounter with Michelle, a corporate executive. Recognizing Ronda’s commitment and drive, Michelle extended an offer that would reshape her path. With unparalleled determination, Ronda met the challenges head-on, setting up the office and assembling a cohesive team. “Say yes,” Ronda’s second lesson encapsulates the courage to accept unfamiliar challenges. Ronda’s narrative took an unforeseen turn when her stepmother steered her toward obtaining a real estate license. Despite initial reservations, Ronda embarked on the journey, unearthing unanticipated opportunities. An NFL Quarterback turned instructor suggested Ronda explore new home construction, but an initial reluctance led her to say “no.” However, life’s twists often lead us back to the paths we initially resisted. The Hard Rock Café Revelation Ronda’s journey continued when she stumbled upon a news story detailing coveted waitress positions at the Hard Rock Cafe. Driven by curiosity and determination, Ronda joined the lengthy queue, embracing the unknown. Her instinct to “accept the challenge” triumphed over doubt, and soon, she found herself at the entrance of the renowned establishment, ready to seize the opportunity. Ronda’s journey exemplifies the blend of initiative, adaptability, and resilience required to excel in New Home Construction.

C OV E R S T O RY Interviews That Define Success: Lessons from Ronda Ÿ Following Directions Interview One lesson stands strong in exploring Ronda’s insightful interview experiences: the ability to follow directions. Ronda’s engagement demonstrates her commitment to this trait, as she arrived equipped with her resume, embracing the significance of preparation and attention to detail. Ÿ Meet & Greet Interview Ronda’s interview journey delves further, examining the essence of personal interactions. Her tale encompasses holding a sentence, maintaining eye contact, radiating an outgoing personality, and exuding

26

vibrant energy. These qualities, indicative of her dynamic presence, have undoubtedly contributed to her success. Ÿ Initiative amid Chaos As the narrative unfolds, Ronda’s adaptability and initiative take center stage. Her account of an unexpected scenario at a restaurant paints a vivid picture. When faced with a messy environment and the option to wait or return another day, Ronda demonstrated her character. She jumped in without hesitation, clearing tables and embodying a “jump in and help” mentality – a testament to her resourcefulness and willingness to contribute.

Ÿ Quick Thinking Interview Ronda’s story continues to impress with her ability to think independently. Amidst a crowded restaurant, she was challenged to seize attention in three seconds. Her quick, bold action – standing atop a table and commanding everyone’s focus with her strong voice – exemplifies her ability to thrive under pressure and to captivate an audience. Ÿ Being the Desired Teammate Interview The culmination of Ronda’s interview revelations leads to a crucial question – do people want her on their team? In a final interview, the Hard Rock team’s approach highlighted their emphasis on collective decision-making. With the team’s diverse members assembled to

evaluate the remaining candidates, Ronda’s journey aptly demonstrated her value as a desirable teammate, a contributor capable of aligning seamlessly with a cohesive unit. Lesson 3: Be Ready for Anything As Ronda’s journey unfolds, the lesson “Be ready for anything” resounds as a guiding principle that propelled her into a dynamic career, encapsulating resilience and adaptability. Ÿ The Waiting Game As Ronda eagerly awaited the outcome of her interview with Hard Rock Cafe, a surprise call shook her path. Liesel Williams from KB Homes, a prominent national builder, contacted her based on a recommendation. The unforeseen opportunity illuminated the essence of being open to unexpected twists.

Ÿ A Serendipitous Meeting Liesel, aware of Teddy’s endorsement, scheduled a coffee meetup. In those three hours, Liesel meticulously laid out the allure of New Home Construction – growth, impact, financial rewards, and boundless potential. However, Ronda remained steadfast, her initial plans divergent from this path.

The news from Hard Rock Cafe, an unexpected job offer, added to the whirlwind. Yet, Ronda’s resolve was cemented – she was about to embrace a new career and path. Her first day at KB Homes marked a milestone. The blend of experiences from the unconventional and the familiar framed her determined attitude. Ÿ A Willingness to Learn

Ÿ Embracing the Unexpected Again Despite her initial reservations, Ronda was captivated by Liesel’s insights and experiences. A connection blossomed despite Ronda’s reservations about New Home Construction. Their coffee conversation was punctuated by an invitation to the KB Homes sales meeting – a gesture that would soon lead to a pivotal moment.

Ronda’s drive to learn was insatiable. She ventured into diverse departments across four years at KB Homes, leaving no opportunity unexplored. Sales, Design Studio, Warranty, Finance, and Marketing became her playground, embodying her unyielding commitment to embracing new experiences. Ÿ A Path Paved by Passion

Ÿ Triumph at the Crossroads

CIO Women Magazine | 27

C OV E R S T O RY Ronda’s tenacity shone anew when a cross-state move led her to a local land developer and homebuilder. Unfazed by a lack of openings, she offered to work without pay, driven solely by her passion for the industry. Her dedication resonated, propelling her from an assistant to Director of Sales and Marketing, a testament to her willingness to contribute. Lesson 4: Stop Waiting For The Right Time

Ÿ The Desire for More The pursuit of excellence lies at the core of Ronda’s ethos. “Do you want more? Do you want growth? Do you want opportunities? Do you want more money? Do you want a better title? Do you want a career you love? Do you want a life you’re proud of?” These questions, posed by Ronda, epitomize her commitment to pushing boundaries and continuously striving for advancement. The Epitome of Success

Ronda’s vital principle – “Stop waiting for the right conditions, the perfect opportunities.” This lesson underscores the power of initiative, reminding us that luck often finds us when we are diligently at work. Ÿ The Quest for Excellence Ronda’s journey continued to unfold as she delved into her role, immersing herself in every facet of the industry. Over the course of six years, she seized the opportunity to learn from the company’s Owner and his son. Consumed by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, she voraciously read books on construction and attended conferences, all aimed at becoming an unparalleled expert in her field.

Two decades as Vice President of CBH Homes have been a testament to Ronda’s unrelenting drive. The company’s achievements under her guidance bear testament to her dedication: Ÿ Ranked as the #1 Builder in Idaho. Ÿ A formidable presence as the 45th largest builder in the nation. Ÿ A team composition of 70% women in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Ÿ Overseeing 300 remarkable CBH teammates. Ÿ Consistently voted as the Best Place to Work in Idaho for 13 consecutive years. Ÿ Earning the title of CBH Homes RoShamBo Tournament Champion. Ÿ Over 25,000 homes were built in 30 years.

Ÿ Investing in Growth Parting Wisdom A pivotal point illuminated Ronda’s path – her commitment to selfimprovement. She firmly believed that pursuing knowledge didn’t cease after formal education or landing a job. As others settled into complacency, Ronda stood out by embracing a relentless pursuit of growth. The disparity between those who stop learning and those who continue to grow became evident, propelling her forward.

28

Ronda’s resolute journey is a source of inspiration. Hard Rock Cafe’s allure paled compared to the passion and purpose she discovered within New Home Construction. Her path has been one of continual effort, defying limits, and embracing challenges. In her parting wisdom, Ronda emphasizes that the key to growth lies in the unyielding pursuit of progress – “Do more. No, do more. Try and try again. Learn, dive in head first, and soak it all up. Be fearless. Go faster.”

Ronda Conger’s mantra is clear: Don’t wait to be told what to do. Just Do it.

Back in high school, some notebook companies used to feature world-famous monuments on their cover pages, and I remember one of them consisted of the Colosseum. I completely had no idea about it before; however, I read about it on the back page of the same notebook, and this is how I was introduced to it. The Colosseum in Rome stands as a testament to the grandeur and engineering prowess of ancient Italy. After reading about it and watching its pictures on the internet, I was completely awestruck by its architectural beauty and storied history. After reading this article, I feel you will start imagining how beautiful it looked in the old days, and you would like to visit it on your next holiday. Enjoy reading! The History of the Colosseum in Rome Under the motto of “Bread and Circuses,” the Roman Colosseum was known as the Flavian Amphitheatre in ancient days, which allowed more than 50,000 people to enjoy its finest spectacles. The exhibitions of exotic and international animals, executions of prisoners, recreations of battles, and gladiator fights took place there, keeping the Roman people entertained for long years.

The Colosseum in Rome enthralled people for over 500 years. The last recorded games in the history of the Colosseum were celebrated in the 6th century. Later, the Colosseum started facing lootings, earthquakes, and even bombings during World War Two. During a crisis, the Colosseum was used as a storehouse, church, cemetery, etc., demonstrating a survival instinct. With the help of studying the chronological order, you can study the history of the Colosseum in Rome in detail:

34

Ÿ 80 AD: Titus, King Vespasian’s successor, officially opened the Colosseum in Rome to the public, and spectators enjoyed 100 days of gladiator combats. Ÿ 83 AD: Titus’s younger brother and successor Domitian completed the construction of the Colosseum. Ÿ 110 AD: A memorial to St. Ignatius of Antioch’s martyrdom was established on the arena floor, transforming it into a cemetery. Ÿ 422 AD: Significant damage to parts of the Colosseum caused due to the Earthquake during the reigns of Theodosius II and Valentinian III. Ÿ 730 AD: Saint Bede, a prominent teacher, and writer of the Early Middle Ages, started referring to the amphitheater as the Colosseum. Ÿ 12th Century: The Frangipani family, a Roman clan, transformed the Colosseum into a castle. Ÿ 1349: A massive earthquake struck the Colosseum, damaging its outer side and causing a partial collapse. The stone from the damaged parts was reused in the construction of various palaces, hospitals, and other architectural structures. Ÿ 19th Century: The Roman Church started numerous restoration projects in the city when the government aimed at preserving this historic monument. Ÿ 2013: Over the course of three years, the government’s restoration project successfully removed the accumulated grime and dirt and restored the Colosseum to its former glory.

Facts about Colosseum in Rome 36

Having a thousand years of history, the Colosseum in Rome has interesting facts that may blow your mind. Before visiting the monument, you can go through them: Ÿ The Colosseum was originally named Flavian Amphitheatre as it was built during the reign of King Vespasian and belonged to the Flavian Dynasty. Today, it is acclaimed as one of the most well-known and iconic symbols of ancient Roman architecture. Ÿ The Colosseum is considered an enormous structure due to its elliptical shape measuring 189 meters (615 feet) long, 156 meters (510 feet) wide, and standing approximately 50 meters (160 feet) tall. Ÿ The intention behind the Colosseum was to manage the flow of people efficiently. It had 80 entrances and exit points, allowing large crowds to enter and exit swiftly. According to the records, it could hold between 50,000 to 80,000 spectators simultaneously. The gladiatorial contests, mock sea battles, animal hunts, and other public spectacles used to take place at the Colosseum. Ÿ The seating arrangement of spectators was based on their social status where the emperor and senators had the best seats in the front, closest to the action. The arena and floor enabled the grand entry of animals and gladiators to surprise the audience during the show. Ÿ It is said that the name “Colosseum” is derived from the colossal statue of Emperor Nero that once stood nearby, known as the Colossus of Nero. Moreover, beneath the monument, there is an underground tunnel and chambers known as the hypogeum.

Architecture of Colosseum Its magnificent architecture makes the Colosseum stand out as the largest amphitheater with a splendid vision of the creator. It stood strong when Rome was facing disasters and reigns that terrorized the people. As a way to give back to the people, King Vespasian started constructing this monumental structure in 70 AD. Unlike most buildings in Rome that were built on hillsides, King Vespasian built the monument as a free-standing structure. The monument is standing 4 stories tall with a central oval arena. Emperor Domitian built underground tunnels in the central arena to provide shelter for animals and slaves. To make the exit and entry as early as possible, there are eighty entrances to the structure from the ground level, and the northern entrance was reserved for the Roman Emperor. The other three entrances were reserved for the elite, and common people used the remaining 76 entrances.

Even with all the laws and restrictions, the Cannabis industry continues to flourish rapidly across the globe. While Cannabis has been used in the medical field for years, most fields don’t have that luxury. Seeing the continuous growth of the industry, it is only natural that businesses and entrepreneurs are attracted to the cannabis world. While several US states have made Cannabis legal, many businesses and entrepreneurs still struggle to access safe and reliable cannabis services. Although the industry sat on an estimated value of $13.2 billion in 2022, federally, it is still categorized alongside the likes of heroin, crystal meth, and other Schedule 1 substances. As a result, businesses that rake in large sums of money through cannabisrelated sales cannot use banking services and have to go the cash route instead, putting them in a tough spot. Noticing the lack of reliable banking services, Infused Banking came to life. Today, through education and research, the bank aims to guide entrepreneurs or businesses to understand the intricacies of the cannabis industry, while also enabling them to access beneficial information easily. In its latest issue, The Most Influential Women Leaders To Watch In 2023, CIO Women has featured, Erin O’Donnell (Founding Partner of

Infused Banking). Below are some of the snippets from the fascinating conversation. 1. What inspired you to direct your journey in this particular field? I’ve always been passionate about creating memorable experiences for people. As a professional event planner, I’ve seen firsthand how technology has transformed the events industry over the past few years. Virtual events, in particular, have been game-changers. They’ve made events more accessible by eliminating geographical barriers, allowing people from all around the globe to participate. This means we can reach more diverse audiences and create truly global experiences. 2. How difficult were the initial years? State a few challenges you faced. The initial years were certainly tough. Bootstrapping a business (we just celebrated 11 years in 2023) requires a lot of hard work and dedication, and being a single mother added to the challenge. I had to balance my time and energy in between nurturing my children and growing the business from the ground up. There were sleepless nights and long hours, but I was determined to succeed as both a mother and an entrepreneur. I like to think these two things are similar, I worked the way I did to take care of my kids. Working from home gave me the flexibility to be home with my kids after school, which means a lot to me looking back. 3. Please walk us through your professional background. I am the Founding Partner of Infused Banking, Co-Founder of BankersHub, and Co-Founder and former CEO of Bankerstuff oversees product

innovation and education. I have over 30 years of experience in strategic event management, specializing in technology and online delivery of content. BankersHub offers education and certification in the banking industry and launched the industry’s first certification for Cannabis Banking. Previously, I co-founded Bankerstuff, an online portal of banking education and information, where we launched the banking industry’s first virtual conference and expo and served as the CEO. I frequently speak at industry conferences on planning virtual events, including live-streaming events and webinars. I have also been a featured keynote speaker on the topic of the importance of social media in financial services. In the late 1990s, during the “dot.com” boom, I worked in San Francisco for VentureOne Corporation (now owned by Dow Jones) where I was responsible for creating and leading the company’s events department. At VentureOne, I was responsible for the P&L of the events business which I grew from inception into more than 25% of the overall corporate revenue for VentureOne. Prior to VentureOne, I worked in the renewable energy industry, creating industry events for Technology Transition Corporation in Washington, DC, focusing on the scalability and growth of the Photovoltaic, Fuel Cell, and Hydrogen Power Industries. I also worked with renowned Geophysicist, Dr. Gordon MacDonald, at the think tank “Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation” at the University of California (San Diego) founded by Herbert York, where I planned conferences for government officials, scientists, and academics. I am a Cannabis Banking Professional

(CBP), a certified Digital Event Strategist (DES), and a Certified Meeting Manager (CMM). I also hold a B.S. in Marketing/Business Administration from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania 4. With the years of expertise you bring to the table, what are your future plans? I’m really excited about the future and the potential opportunities in the cannabis industry. One area that has my attention is cannabis banking. As the industry continues to grow, there is a vital need for legitimate and secure banking solutions that cater to cannabis businesses, which still face many financial challenges due to the legal complexities surrounding the industry. As the cannabis industry continues to expand and evolve, there is a growing need for education and resources. Infused Banking has created a comprehensive learning platform that brings together professionals, researchers, and enthusiasts from across the entire industry. Our platform offers a centralized hub for knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration. 5. A word for budding entrepreneurs? I always give the same advice, because I truly believe it has been critical to my success. Do not hire friends or people who think like you. Hire someone who pushes back and challenges ideas, especially yours. My business partners and I are very different, but we share the same work ethic and desire to make the company the best it can be. 6. If your life story was a book, what would it be called, and why? “Zero Sum Game” because being an entrepreneur is about balancing gains and losses to stay afloat. It requires a lot of flexibility and things often don’t

46

go the way you hope. You have to evaluate losses and mistakes quickly and move on. 7. How has your education helped you to shape your enterprise? That’s a thought-provoking question, I attended college at a time before the internet, email, social media, and widespread use of computers. Over time, I have adapted and embraced the latest technological advancements with enthusiasm. Additionally, my college years predate the ubiquity of cell phones, which fostered a different mode of interpersonal interaction. I consider myself fortunate to have struck a balance between harnessing technology and maintaining strong people skills. 8. How have your personal life experiences influenced the entrepreneur in you? I believe that our experiences shape our perspectives and drive our decision-making. As I move forward with Infused Banking, I will continue to draw on the lessons I’ve learned throughout my life, both as a single mother and as an entrepreneur. My father was a high school English teacher who worked three jobs to keep our family going. He taught me the importance of perseverance, creativity, and a strong work ethic. I learned from the best and I’d be honored if my kids learned from me. 9. Looking back, what advice would you give to your younger self? If I could share some wisdom with my younger self, there are a few key pieces of advice I would offer. First, I would emphasize the importance of believing in yourself and your capabilities. Self-confidence and trust in your own abilities are crucial for overcoming challenges and

achieving success. Secondly, I’d encourage my younger self to seek out mentorship and support from others. Building a strong network of mentors and supporters can provide invaluable guidance, encouragement, and opportunities. It’s important to remember that you don’t have to navigate your journey alone. Next, I’d advise my younger self to prioritize self-care and maintain a healthy work-life balance. As a single mother and entrepreneur, it’s easy to get caught up in the demands of both roles. But taking time for yourself, setting boundaries, and focusing on your well-being is essential for longterm success and happiness. Finally, I’d tell my younger self to embrace change and be open to new experiences. The world is constantly evolving, and being adaptable is a key trait for any successful entrepreneur. Keep an open mind, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to take risks. 10. What was the one piece of advice that has had an impact on your leadership? One piece of advice that truly resonated with me and has made a lasting impact is “Don’t be afraid of making a mistake”. This advice has been transformative to me because it’s helped me embrace challenges and approach setbacks with a more constructive mindset. Instead of fearing failure, I now view it as a stepping stone to success. By learning from my mistakes and applying those lessons to future endeavors, I’ve been able to grow both personally and professionally. 11. When was the company

Habits of

CCESSFUL

Leaders CIO Women Magazine | 51

Sales are considered an art more than a science. Sales Leaders have considered mastering the art. They have taken an effort and pushed themselves to give it their all. Sales Leaders aren’t born with the aptness. They’ve developed it throughout the years before they were recognized as sales leaders. Not every prospect gets converted into a sale. The last decision remains on the buyer. But, the job of sales leaders is to create an impact on the customer so he/she won’t choose any other brand. Sales leaders are dynamiting. They know how to work under pressure. They keep a balance of the pressure and their work aside. If mixed, the sales leaders know the blunder that’ll degrade their performance. Sales leaders are motivating, compassionate and inspiring. Other employees, peers, subordinates, and juniors especially get wooed and inspired to be like them. Mentioning 10 habits of successful sales leaders; Habit 1: They love their job Sales leaders love their job. As simple as that. They can only see the number of sales and the target in front of their eyes. Sales leaders love to be out there. They’re outspoken, witty, and have immense convincing power. Right, from when they start their jobs, they’ve mastered the craft to a level where they can almost convert most of their prospects into happy customers. Habit 2: They follow standard processes Sales leaders follow standard operating processes while implementing their own skills at times. It helps them not only to generate leads but also to get some conversions. They do not pay heed to impractical and previously failed methods. Striving every day to achieve the monthly target is the ambition in front of them.

52

Habit 3: Time management Sales leaders are the best when it comes to time management. They have a plan ready and time slots given for their whole day. What task needs how much time are they’re well-aware and implement it so. It is needed in order to achieve the targets they keep chasing. Managing your time is a skill everyone should master, not only people in sales. Habit 4: Are an inspiration Juniors especially look up to their immediate seniors and the team leaders and managers. These are the leader’s juniors who try to learn by observation and when they are on the job. Sales training is provided, that is a different matter, but what humans can grasp via observing is a totally exceptional skill. The human brain is wired like that. So, sales leaders are not only leaders in the organization, they are leaders in the true aspect of life. They also had leaders when they started their journey. This is the same thing. Only places have changed.

product knowledge means you have taken the effort to study in detail about the product. It helps greatly in convincing the customer and can solve all his doubts too. Habit 7: Carry a growth mindset They strive to grow every day, every second, and every minute of their life. Without growth, a salesperson cannot survive, they’re well aware of this fact. All they wish to see is growing sales figures, subordinates/juniors growing and the organization reaching to new heights. This is the growth mindset every salesperson has and they keep their word at all times. Habit 8: Nurture their networks Protecting your networks is a thing all salespeople need to do, not only leaders. There are two reasons behind it. First, seniors can help in the future, second customer referrals are the best to prove the worth of previous work done. It builds goodwill and advocates the work. It builds a good image.

Habit 5: Use their creative flair

Habit 9: Customer-centric approach

Salespeople have a creative flair when dealing with customers or in daily activities. Whether it’s time management, submitting the sales figures to seniors, or attending to the whole bunch of customers they possess they do it effortlessly. But, speaking in terms of creativity, they need to showcase it on the job, especially during customer acquisition. Persuading the prospect while leaving an impact of the product and of self, is important.

Salespeople are customer-centric. They understand the needs of customers, likes, dislikes, and the thought process they carry. They are empaths as they interact with the customers every day. They know what are the customers looking for. They have a knack to understand the customer’s nerves and provide them their suitable product. Age, gender, purchasing power, and the overall standard of living of the person are judged by the salesperson.

Habit 6: On-point product knowledge

Salespeople exist to sustain. They have a sustainability mindset too. In the initial years, they strive to sustain, within the market, sustain within their market share, sustain the competition, and sustain the image of their brand.

When the sales leader has the right amount of product knowledge, his confidence increases. He is more ready to stand there and make a sale. Good

Habit 10: Sustainability

One wrong move will directly affect their brand name and revenue. Hence, they continually strive to attain sustainability. Conclusion: As we conclude, it is safe to say that, salespeople are true multi-taskers. They have to do an infinite number of tasks in a stipulated time frame. They have the capability to do it well without any hindrances, or minimum obstacles. They know the tact of damage control too. They focus on their weaknesses too. Nobody is perfect. They learn the talent of storytelling too, to grab the immediate attention of the customer. All in all, a salesperson is a multi-faceted and multi-talented person who can carry the brand name and image forward to only grow in the future.
