O
ver the years, women have proven themselves to be adept financial managers, challenging the traditional maledominated financial industry. Despite historical barriers and gender biases, women have emerged as successful financial managers in various sectors of the industry, from personal finance to corporate banking. Today, women are leading the way in financial management, with many occupying high-level positions in banks, investment firms, and other financial organizations. Their achievements have not only shattered the glass ceiling but also opened the doors for future generations of women to pursue careers in finance. Featuring for CIO Women Magazine’s special issue of The Most Inspiring Women Leaders To Watch In 2023 is the story of Elisabeth Dawson. Financially Speaking... Elisabeth stands apart from other advisors with a more detailed and comprehensive approach to financial planning, taking into account every aspect of a person's financial situation. For example, she often works closely with attorneys, CPAs, and estate planning professionals to maximize tax benefits and ensure that a person's assets will be distributed according to their wishes and not stuck in probate. It is important to understand that financial planning is not just for wealthy individuals. Everyone can benefit from talking to a financial advisor, regardless of their income level. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of this and may feel intimidated or embarrassed to seek

help. Elisabeth works to break down these barriers and help people improve their relationship with money so that they feel comfortable asking for advice when they need it. It is a common misconception that financial advisors or planners are just stockbrokers. However, the truth is that financial planning encompasses a wide range of areas, including investment management, retirement planning, estate planning, tax planning, and insurance planning. Your success depends upon working with a qualified and experienced professional who cares about your unique situation and can help you achieve your personal financial goals. It’s also common to feel overwhelmed by the complexity of financial planning, especially when it comes to investing in the stock market. Most people may not fully understand the risks and potential downsides of investing in stocks, such as the lack of guarantees for income and the potential for market volatility. As an experienced fiduciary, Elisabeth educates her clients on the various tools and strategies available to help them achieve their financial goals. She communicates clearly and transparently with clients, so that they can make informed decisions about their financial future. This includes exploring different investment options, such as annuities, bonds, and real estate, as well as life insurance and long-term care insurance. Each plan Elisabeth and her team designs is tailored specifically to a client’s clearly defined “wish list.” By taking a comprehensive approach to financial planning, Elisabeth helps clients protect their assets, plan for
retirement, and ensure financial security for themselves and their families. Copia Wealth ManagementHelping People Succeed As comprehensive financial planners, Copia’s approach goes beyond simply investing in the stock market. The team’s focus is not on creating a lavish lifestyle, but on finding ways to increase the clients' financial resources and investing in assets that will compound over time. “We take the time to understand our clients' money habits and cash flow, helping them structure their finances to create long-term wealth.” Recently, Elisabeth’s in-depth analysis successfully helped a client to recover and repurpose 22% of their cash flow, redirecting it into wealth-creation strategies, without any risk exposure in the stock market. Considering the volatility of the market, this is a tremendous achievement in creating financial security for a person’s future retirement. “Our goal is to help clients think differently and approach financial planning in a comprehensive way, rather than solely relying on stockbrokers, money managers, or bankers who have a narrow focus,” explains Elisabeth. The talent of a financial planner lies in their ability to analyze all possible avenues to protect and mitigate risks against potential threats. For the Copia team, this involves careful consideration of strategies to protect against potential damages, mitigate taxes, and secure long-term financial stability for their clients.
Leading the Way As a successful financial advisor in a male-dominated industry, Elisabeth has had the privilege of working with many male mentors throughout her career. Although there are few women in the league, Elisabeth is proud to be in the top one to two percent of financial advisors in the country and to have been awarded as the Top Female Financial Advisor for two consecutive years. “However, I understand that this honor comes with a great responsibility to my clients and to the financial industry as a whole.” For Elisabeth, integrity, humility, and a commitment to truth-based planning are essential to success. With her meticulous work ethic, she ensures that her clients receive the best possible guidance. She always looks forward, and approaches every conversation about money with respect and sensitivity. “Money is a complex and often taboo subject, and my job is to help my clients feel confident and empowered in their financial decisions.” Throughout her career, Elisabeth has learned valuable lessons from both male and female mentors, including one female advisor who continues to be a major player in the industry. Elisabeth believes that respect for the profession, her colleagues, and clients is essential to success in the financial management space. “As a female financial advisor, I am committed to leading by example and breaking down barriers for future generations of women in this industry.”

COVER STORY In regard to retirement planning, the team believes in starting as early as possible to design a retirement that meets the clients' needs and expectations. Their thorough approach involves looking at all potential factors that could affect a person’s retirement, including longevity, health events, and income protection. By taking these factors into account and designing a retirement plan early on, they help clients to achieve financial stability and peace of mind in their golden years. When Should People Start Preparing for Retirement? Regardless of their age, anyone who is earning money, should start saving for retirement. It is important to cultivate good financial habits early on, in order to promote success in the long-term. Many people believe that retirement is so far in the future that they have plenty of time to plan and don’t need to think about it today. For others, the stress and anxiety of their finances causes them to procrastinate. However, avoiding the topic often makes the situation worse. That’s why it is important to take meaningful steps toward improving your finances, even if it feels outside of your comfort zone. Saving, investing, and creating a plan for the future are crucial components of establishing a strong financial foundation. This process should begin as early as possible, even in childhood, with the establishment of a savings account and consistent contributions. The power of compounding interest can accelerate the potential growth of investments over time. While consistency and discipline are essential to achieving long-term financial goals, it’s also necessary to consider financial protections such as life insurance and disability insurance to mitigate potential risks. Elisabeth encourages people to think about retirement, not as some milestone far off in the future, but rather as a series of thoughtful, disciplined decisions made all along the way. This, she says, is the key to creating an abundant financial future and being able to live the retirement you’ve always wanted.

Copia’s Strong Team Elisabeth has 24 years of experience in the financial services industry, holding the positions of CEO and President at Copia Wealth Management and Insurance Services, as well as Copia Wealth Management Advisors, Inc. She provides guidance to families, couples, individuals, and business owners across various demographics. “Overall, my approach is that of an educator, empowering my clients with the tools and knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions. As the author of two books, including Wealth by Design and Retirement by Design, I strive to promote financial literacy and provide actionable advice to individuals seeking to secure their financial futures,” says Elisabeth. Elisabeth sets herself apart as a financial advisor through her focus on education and advocacy, empowering individuals to take control of their financial future. She is passionate about promoting financial literacy and providing the guidance and tools necessary to help individuals make better financial decisions. “By taking an educational approach, I seek to ensure that my clients have a thorough understanding of financial principles and strategies. This enables them to make informed decisions that align with their goals and values, and helps to mitigate potential financial risks. Ultimately, my mission is to help my clients achieve financial security and peace of mind, through personalized guidance and tailored solutions that align with their unique needs and circumstances.”

G
ina Diez Barroso is a true leader and a trailblazer creating waves in the fields of arts and education. CIO Women Magazine is proud to introduce her as one of The Most Inspiring Women Leaders to Watch out for In 2023. Gina's story is a testament to her unwavering vision for a better future and her relentless drive to make it happen. She possesses a unique set of skills that enable her to break down barriers, view problems from new perspectives, and bring people together to create lasting solutions. Her journey in the professional world started at Televisa, the leading Latin American mass media company and the largest producer of Spanishlanguage content. At Televisa, she honed her skills and learned the ins and outs of the media industry. However, she was not content to rest on her laurels and, after working with her grandfather, she realized that it was time to pursue her own aspirations. In 1990, she founded Diarq Group. Diarq Group was ahead of its time, offering a one-stop solution for design, architecture, and construction services, which was a novel concept in Mexico at the time. The company was also the first in the country to display model homes and apartments, which gave potential customers a unique opportunity to see the company's work in person.
42
As the company continued to grow, it became a well-known and respected entity in the industry. With eight subsidiaries, it employed over 600 individuals at its peak and established itself as a leader in the field. Additionally, Diarq Group forged its own brand identity, setting itself apart from its competitors and leaving a lasting impact on the industry. Diarq is a renowned real estate development and design firm in Latin America, having completed a substantial portfolio of over 850 residential and hospitality projects. Gina's personal values and professional goals eventually led her to realize that she wanted to make a larger impact on society. In response, she established the Diarq Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to addressing the issue of domestic violence and helping to prevent and eradicate it. Despite the success and growth of her business, Gina felt that there was still something missing. Although she had achieved a great deal in the corporate world, she felt that her impact was not as meaningful or lasting as she had hoped. However, her father and grandfather served as sources of inspiration and motivation for her. They were role models who taught her the importance of entrepreneurship, service, and making a positive impact on the community. With these values in mind,
she has built a successful empire and remains dedicated to leaving a lasting legacy in Mexican society. “His impressive legacy was an inspiration and a moving force to go forward and do more.” Gina realized that while architecture and design were important, quality education was the foundation for social progress and individual success. With this in mind, she decided to focus on the field of creative education in Mexico and create her own university. CENTRO University has become a leader in its field, with over 3,000 students and a wide range of programs, including 8 bachelor's degrees, 20 master's degrees, and over 150 continuing education courses. Additionally, the university is deeply committed to environmental sustainability and is proud to be the first LEED Platinum-certified campus in the world. Gina says, “Establishing a university with a concentration in creative education and business was only part of the equation. I wanted to make sure that students with outstanding qualifications had the opportunity to study at CENTRO University regardless of their economic possibilities. Therefore, I founded the Pro-Education CENTRO Foundation which provides scholarships to 50% of the 3,000 + students at the University.”

Gina is a part of significant female groups including WPO (Women President Organization). She is of the opinion that women need to realize that no one gives them power. They must develop soft skills, alter their perspective, and acknowledge and appreciate the power they already possess. She has been the lone member of C200.org, a prestigious nonprofit organization, from Latin America for more than 20 years. Its goal is to support women in business and as executives. As part of their activities, this latest group has traveled to the top colleges throughout the world where they have spoken and mentored female MBA students. She established Dalia Empower four years ago, a lifelong learning initiative with a global reach for women at various phases of their careers, from those just starting out in the workforce to those in leadership roles. The business has created a special methodology focused on inducing a transforming influence on the mind, getting rid of obstacles, and changing convictions and perspectives that impose unfavorable restrictions. Gina adds, “I was very happy and now satisfied to have found my purpose in education and women´s growth. I am convinced that education gives knowledge, knowledge grants power; and power is especially important for women because it provides more freedom – especially financial freedom.” Getting to know Gina Gina, being a bibliophile, has many preferred books on her bookshelf. If you think something is not working, fix it! however, stands out for her. She thinks it has consistently attempted to make the world a better place for
44
C O V E R S T O R Y everyone. She also thinks that a lot of people have a whining attitude and do nothing to change themselves or their circumstances. Every problem, every situation that isn't working, ought to be seen as a chance for improvement and change. Gina credits education with playing a crucial role in helping her discover her purpose, unleash her inner entrepreneur and gain a better understanding of the world. However, her true success can be attributed to her resilience, life experiences, and mastery of life skills. These soft skills have had a profound impact on her personal and professional success and have been a major factor in her leadership abilities. One piece of advice has had a significant impact on her leadership – Never give up, believe in yourself, ask for help, and listen to others' advice with an open mind and without preconceptions. This approach has served her well throughout her career and has been a driving force behind her achievements. Reflecting on her journey, Gina would advise her younger self to prioritize taking care of others, but also to not forget to take care of herself and be less self-critical. The Game Changers The establishment of Dalia Empower, Grupo Diarq, CENTRO University, and Diez marks significant milestones in the history of the companies. Dalia Empower was founded on March 31st, 2017, representing a new chapter in the company's journey. Grupo Diarq, on the other hand, was established much earlier, on January 17th, 1990, and has since become one of the leading real estate development and design firms in Latin America. CENTRO University was founded on January 22nd, 2003, and has since
grown to become the most important university in Mexico in its field. Diez, established on June 9th, 2004, is another key player in the company's portfolio. Finally, in 2022, Diez Holding was formed, further solidifying the company's presence in the industry. Over time, the vision and mission of these companies have evolved. When Gina founded Diarq, her goal was to address the challenges faced by the real estate industry by creating a one-stopshop that caters to the needs of the high-end real estate and design market. “At this point in my life, my mission became my vision, which is giving a high-quality education to a greater number of people, regardless of their financial capabilities.” Today the company has a holding that comprises many companies and investments in Mexico, Latin America, and the United States, with a sevenfigure revenue and a strong clientele base. Roadblocks Along The Way Gina's journey was not without challenges. As a young woman in her mid-twenties, she was embarking on a new project with limited experience and resources, without the support of a larger corporate entity. This posed significant administrative, bureaucratic, and corporate challenges that she had to navigate on her own. Additionally, working in a maledominated industry such as construction made it even more challenging for her to succeed. However, despite these obstacles, she remained determined to break through the glass ceiling and make her mark. Interestingly, despite her gender, she was always supported by her male

colleagues, who recognized her determination and drive. This allowed her to overcome the challenges she faced and establish herself as a successful entrepreneur in her field. In addition to the challenges faced in real estate development, Gina also encountered difficulties in the field of creative education in Mexico. At the time, there was a lack of formal and high-quality educational institutions that kept up with technological and innovation advancements.
A life without conflicts is a life without opportunities.
The curriculum was not geared towards entrepreneurship and business principles, and there was a social stigma against pursuing creative careers in favor of more traditional, high-paying, and stable professions such as law, medicine, and accounting. As a result, many talented Mexicans who had the financial means would leave the country to study abroad, leading to a significant loss of talent. However, Gina was not deterred by these obstacles. With the support of her mentor, Pedro Aspe, a renowned economist and former Secretary of Finance, and Kerstin Scheuch, the current Director of Centro University, who helped with the organization, planning, and creation of the innovative curricula and teaching methodology, she was able to bring her vision for a top-notch educational institution to life. Additionally, the prominent Mexican architect Enrique Norten, with his global vision, provided invaluable guidance and helped build the exceptional campus of Centro University. Today, Centro University stands as a testament to her perseverance and unwavering determination. Gina says, “During my visits to universities, I came to the realization
46
C O V E R S T O R Y that, although female students had solid technical and academic skills, they often lacked key soft skills needed to believe in themselves and master negotiation, leadership, work-life balance, creative thinking, personal branding, among others. I believed – as I do now – that without those key skills, they would not get far ahead and be successful both in their professional and personal lives. I knew that I had to do something about it, although what specifically wasn´t defined yet.” Gina's understanding of the situation improved after the Mexican government asked her to represent Mexico at the W20, the G20's women's initiative, and the G20 Empower Alliance, which strives to advance women's economic representation and leadership in the private sector. Through these two projects, she became familiar with the struggles, needs, and aspirations of women around the world, coming to the conclusion that in order to succeed, women—regardless of their culture, background, or country—must constantly learn and possess not only academic and hard skills but—more crucially—strong soft skills. Navigating The Uncertainty Of The Pandemic “A life without conflicts is a life without opportunities.” The outbreak of the pandemic presented both difficulties and opportunities for Dalia. In order to respond to the new reality brought by the pandemic, Dalia had to embrace digitalization, enhance its technological abilities, and introduce online programs that were both innovative and effective. The process was not without its challenges, as it was expensive and required significant investment.
CIO Women Magazine | 47
C O V E R S T O R Y However, this transformation allowed the company to reach out to a wider audience, including women from countries that had not been considered previously. As a company in the midst of consolidation, the pandemic and postpandemic era presented a host of challenges. Finding the right human capital with the right combination of knowledge, hard and soft skills, adaptability, and most importantly, full commitment and reliability, proved to be difficult. Additionally, as a global project, Dalia had to navigate and understand cultural differences, and find partners who could help to translate the company's vision and mission in different countries, which was a complex and demanding process. Success Speaks Gina's company has had a steady trajectory of growth over the years, despite some challenges posed by global economic and geopolitical factors. The secret to their longstanding success is their unwavering commitment to their values and their ability to meet their client's needs by thoroughly understanding the market in which they operate. With an eye towards continued growth, the company is working to expand its services in the education sector and to solidify its presence as a global player. By staying true to their values and keeping their client’s needs at the forefront of their efforts, they are poised for continued success in the future. A Leap Ahead Gina has big aspirations for her education businesses, Centro University, and Dalia. She wants to make sure that both entities continue to
48
grow and reach new heights in terms of impact and reach. With Centro University, she envisions opening new campuses in different countries that would share the same curriculum and teaching methodologies, providing students with a unique and valuable educational experience. On the other hand, with Dalia, Gina is looking to expand the business through strategic partnerships that would allow her to open branches in different countries, thereby increasing her reach and impact. Her ultimate goal is to indirectly impact 25 million women and directly impact 100 million women over the next decade, making a significant difference in the lives of women around the world. Word of the Wise Gina Diez Barroso Founder “Be resilient, follow your dreams, and don´t be put off by what other people think. Entrepreneurship is not an easy path but an extremely rewarding one. Make sure not only to focus your attention on being successful, but more importantly, enjoy the journey.”

elehealth is an area of business that Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine have a lot of potential. As a first step, it could give medical care to people who wouldn’t have had it otherwise. But, as these predictions will show, those aren’t the only benefits. Here are five things that are likely to change how telehealth works in the future. Here are 5 Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine in 2023: 1. More Virtual Clinical Trials In the early stages of a clinical trial, one of the challenges is to find enough people to take part in Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine. Most ads tell you briefly what you have to do to participate and how much money you’ll get in return. People who take part in clinical trials can quit at any time, which is another problem. Research also shows that some diseases or drugs need more people to take part in clinical trials than others.
For example, one article said that clinical trial recruiters get an average of 275 patients for a cardiovascular trial but only 20 for a cancer study. More so-called virtual clinical trials are already being done because of telemedicine. They let the people who take part stay at home most of the time while they wear devices that can be watched from afar. Also, the remote monitoring tools could make it easier to spot changes from the baseline readings of a patient, especially if they show metrics over time of Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine. It seems very likely that telemedicine will help clinical trials move forward by making it easier to find patients. Because everything is virtual, it could also mean that recruiters are less limited by where they can work.
2. Telemedicine will make the relationship between doctors and patients stronger. Some people who don’t like telemedicine say that doctors can’t give their patients the care they need if they aren’t in the same room. Others talk about how it puts more distance between the patient and the provider. But you might notice that technology is making it easier for doctors and patients to get along with each other. People’s feelings about direct-toconsumer doctor visits were looked into in a 2017 study. It was found that 56 percent of the people who filled out the survey thought it was important to have a relationship with the doctors who provide care through Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine. Maybe that’s why Heal, a new company in Los Angeles that sends doctors to patients’ homes, will soon offer a telemedicine service to go with its house call model. It’s mostly for people with long-term health problems, not for people who need urgent care. More specifically, an interface called the Heal Hub lets you see updated patient data like blood pressure and heart rate. Then, if you see a scary change in the numbers, you can call the patient and tell them to come in for a face-to-face visit or make a change to avoid a health disaster. Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine The challenge is to find enough people Evolution of Telemedicine People who thought that telemedicine services didn’t do enough will soon see that, in some cases, they can help doctors and patients get along better. This is because of services like the one that Heal will soon offer. Another thing to keep in mind is that telemedicine can help care team members work together, even if they

TELEMEDICINE are in different states and treating the same patient. So, patients can get the benefits without traveling as much. 3. People often use telemedicine to stop the spread of infectious diseases. Stopping the spread of infectious diseases is probably one of the most important things you do at work, and it’s probably something you train on all the time. Because antibiotic-resistant bacteria are becoming more common, outbreaks in hospitals can be especially bad. Another important development in Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine is the use of technology to cut down on infectious disease problems by giving people more access to expert advice. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) joined forces with ID Connect, a company that connects healthcare facilities with experts in infectious diseases to Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine. ID Connect works with five hospitals in Pennsylvania that are not part of the UPMC
health system. The company wants to start by focusing on the more than 4,000 acute care hospitals in the U.S. that have less than 300 beds. Using telemedicine in this way could be a big help in improving the way infectious diseases are treated. Because of this, the patients in these places are less likely to have problems. 4. Giving prisoners better access to health care People often forget about inmates’ health care, but telemedicine is making it a lot easier for people in prisons to get the care they need. For example, New York City’s system has 55,000 residents per year and uses about 30 telemedicine hubs to coordinate care between the prisons and hospitals in the area of Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine. Using telemedicine in this way is helpful when inmates need to see specialists but can’t get to them easily in other ways. One doctor who treats patients with gastroenterology in one of Ohio’s
29 prisons says that he sees about 150 prisoners each year through Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine. 5. More work on telehealth platforms for children When telehealth was just getting started, some providers only saw adults. Telehealth options for kids are becoming more common, and it looks like this trend will keep going to Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine. Early results from a study that is still going on to look at telemedicine for high-risk pediatric patients show that it saves time and cuts down on in-person visits. More evidence shows that healthcare facilities are starting to use telemedicine for kids. For example, the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Teledoc, a telemedicine company, just made a deal to make a platform just for kids. If this trend keeps going, it could give young people more chances to get medical care at home, where they feel most comfortable and at ease with Predictions for the Evolution of Telemedicine.
