It all started in 1931 when a long-sought dream became reality and Giuseppe Cipriani opened the doors of Harry’s Bar. In a discreet stone building perched along a canal just off Piazza San Marco in Venice, he created a timeless and impeccably appointed establishment. He loved to serve patrons as he liked to be served himself. His vision of simple luxury came to touch the souls of people all over the world. Harry’s Bar became a popular destination for royalty, dignitaries, celebrities and wonderful human beings from all over the world. Hemingway, Orson Welles, Truman Capote, Maria Callas are only a few of the people who considered Harry’s Bar their home. After turning an old tavern on the island of Torcello into an Inn and building the most luxurious and discreet hotel in Venice, the founder’s legacy passed to his son Arrigo who continued the style that turned Harry’s Bar into an international legend and an Italian national Monument, the only public establishment awarded this recognition since 1900.

Arrigo Cipriani, after opening Harry’s Dolci on the island of Giudecca and turning a workshop for bread, pasta and desserts into a factory of creativity and specialty foods, crossed the Atlantic and opened Harry Cipriani, its first restaurant in New York City. The location on Fifth Avenue was perfect, with two big windows that opened onto the plaza at the end of Central Park, dividing Manhattan in two. The unmistakable and hard to replicate style, asserted itself rapidly and with the help by then of third generation’s Giuseppe Cipriani, who shared the same spirit and passion of his father and grandfather, many more locations, in New York and around the world came to life. With a fourth generation now who has joined the visionary and management team, the legacy of what has become one of the most recognizable hospitality groups in the world keeps growing, with the same values and love that started it.
