If you’ve got a passion for fashion and want to get your career off to a flying start, then this unique, high quality and affordable fashion course will confirm your career ambitions and help you achieve your full potential. Based at Newham College’s fashion production workshops and the Fashion and Textile Museum in central London, the London Fashion Foundation Diploma is a one year intensive fashion experience that will develop your creative and technical fashion skills. The course will also develop your understanding of the fashion industry, encourage you to acquire specialist expertise and knowledge, and provide you with advice and support to help you achieve your ambitions and a successful career in the industry.
HOW DOES
IT WORK?
This intensive course involves four full days a week of study for 30 weeks. Teaching is in small groups with a high level of individual support. You will learn how to develop your creativity and fashion skills and as the course progresses you will produce a portfolio of fashion design work. • The aim of the course is to develop your individual abilities and interests • You will build an individual portfolio of fashion work tailored to your future career ambitions • You will receive regular advice and guidance regarding UCAS applications and the interview process • You will receive a high level of teaching and guidance from industry experts and practitioners • Learning will be undertaken in a variety of ways including visits to museums and exhibitions, master classes, lectures and presentations The course will equip you to make a successful application to study fashion at degree level, and will culminate in a display of work at the Fashion and Textile Museum.

THE COURSE INVOLVE
The course is structured in three ten week stages:
INTRODUCTORY AND DIAGNOSTIC The first stage establishes the skills and working methods you need for success, introducing the creative process and the drawing, design, and practical/technical skills required in fashion. You will develop your understanding of how the industry works and your ability to critically evaluate your own work and progress, and by the end of this stage you will make initial decisions about future degree level study.
DEVELOPMENT AND SPECIALISM This stage will develop and strengthen your personal design skills and confirm your progression route. Depending on your particular interests you will study on a chosen pathway such as Womenswear and Menswear, Fashion Identity and Branding, and Fashion Accessories to build your knowledge and a portfolio of creative design and other work suitable for specialist degree course application.
PROJECT PROPOSAL AND REALISATION In this final phase you will propose and produce your final major project, a personal design project that will integrate and develop all you have learned to date on the course. Final major projects will form part of a group show displayed at the Fashion and Textile Museum. You will learn in a variety of ways - by completing exercises and projects, through demonstrations, workshops and talks, and independent study. If you pass the requisite assessments on the course you will gain an ABC Awards Diploma level 3 at pass, merit or distinction level.
XTILE MUSEUM
& N EWHAM COLLEGE
The course is based partly at the Fashion and Textile Museum near London Bridge, and partly at Newham College in east London. The museum is owned and operated by Newham College and has been developed as a prestigious exhibition venue and successful training centre for the fashion industry. Newham College (rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and designated a Beacon College by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service) has a long history of working with the fashion sector, and offers tailoring courses in partnership with Savile Row Bespoke as well as a wide range of very successful professional fashion courses. & QUALIFICATIONS
WHAT OPTIONS ARE OPEN TO ME IF I SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE COURSE? The course will equip you with the UCAS points, portfolio and the skills and understanding needed for successful degree level application. You will receive full personal guidance and support at every stage of the application process. On successful completion of the course you will gain the ABC Awards Foundation Diploma level 3 at pass, merit or distinction.
WHAT QUALIFICATION DO I NEED TO GET ON TO THE COURSE? You need five GCSEs grades A-C including English and Maths or a full level 2 qualification such as GNVQ Intermediate, BTEC First, or National Award in a relevant subject. On receipt of your application you will be asked to bring examples of your creative and practical work to an informal guidance session to confirm your place and programme of study.
COSTS
& CON TACTS
COST For UK or EU residents there is no tuition fee for students who are 16-18 on 31st August of the year the course starts, while students who are 19 or older will pay a tuition fee and an examination fee. Individual students may qualify for fee remission. Information about the current tuition fee is available from the Newham College Course Consultancy team on 020 8257 4446. You will be sent an invoice when you have enrolled on the course, and you will be able to pay your tuition fees in up to four instalments over the duration of the course. Personal equipment needed for the course will cost about £100, and you should budget for £10-£20 a week for materials and incidental costs
