April dir support notes

Hi all, Great meetings today! At the professionals' meeting I spoke a bit about DIR and the IEP process - slides will be sent to circlestretch.blogspot.com as always - and maybe we can embed the video in our new circlestretch website which is almost ready to launch!

Also today, Ann McLevie-Spooner gave a lovely presentation on reflective supervision - reflective work lies at the core of DIR: we need opportunities to think about what we do and what we want to make better in the work we do. Without this we tend to get stuck when we invariably cannot see all aspects of our work. It was so helpful - thanks Anne!

I hear that the parent group was also excellent. The participants shared tips with each other on trying to make the schools understand the needs of their kids, with tips on what did or didn’t work. They also watched a bit of a Tony Attwood video describing how to play with kids in a way that allows them to learn turn taking and to see adults making mistakes and being okay with that.

Announcements: Next meeting is a joint meeting Wednesday May 6, 2009 from 9-1030 am for parents and professionals together.
