animaux Parties combining underground electronic music with often entrancing visuals. Catch residents and some well-loved York names at the decks on Tuesday 7th October at Mansion as Animaux welcome everyone to the city.
Bangers & mash
udists Formed of York students, Nudists have been earning their stripes playing around campus and all over the city this year and we’re officially big fans of their moody jangling. They play YSTV’s Jamboozle Sessions on Friday October 10th at Dusk. Having recently hosted the likes of Mak & Pasteman and New York Transit Authority, we’re really excited to see what On & On pull out of the party sleeve this year. They’re kicking things off with Outboxx on Friday 10th October at Fibbers.
Just as good as when Nana makes em for you. Did your Nana ever bring Hackman, xxxy or Waze & Odyssey to play for you? No, but Bangers & Mash did. Catch their residents at Mansion on Friday 10th October.

Music on the screen and on the stage. City Screen often shows the best of music films past and present, and sometimes chucks in a live Q&A too. The Basement downstairs also hosts the most intimate music shows in town.
A much-trusted local promotion outfit; you might not recognise many of the names on their bills but you can be sure that you’ll be in for a special evening.

UESTIONS
We like them. If you’d like to ask some questions to anyone involved in music, we’d like you to get involved in our magazine - send us an email about any article you’d like to write.
Really quite infamous as an independent music venue that’s stood the test of time, The Duchess is an underground sanctuary that attracts bands just on the cusp of doing huge things.

Tucked away down a Goodramgate alley, Earworm stocks an irristible array of new releases, old releases and a lot of music chat from owners who really know their stuff.

Nurturing talent in the homeland, and putting on some fun parties here too. For some fresh, modern electronica, see Anonymous Records, and for guitars done really, really well, see Bad Paintings.

Play Fibbers on Sunday 9th November. It’ll probably be quite loud. Slaves thunder through the wake of angry two-piece rock bands and make a proper racket on their way.
Celebrating its 17th birthday this year, Freakin is easily the best place in the city to be on the first Saturday of the month. They bring along Mark E to help with festivities at Mansion on Saturday 1st November.
One of our favourite new bands (Happyness), supported by stalwarts of the York live music scene (Junk and Bull), in one of the best pubs in town (Fulford Arms). Sunday October 12th. Happiness indeed.

Get lost in vinyl, beautiful pop culture books and chatter from one of the nicest men that’s ever sat behind a record store counter.

We’re chuffed to ride their airwaves 10-11pm on Fridays, playing our selection of new releases and saying some words in between. Listen at URY.org.uk.

Playing a DJ set at Fibbers, on Wednesday 15th October. How could this possibly be anything other than the most fun you’ve ever had?

...That’s Circulation magazine. Look out for our own parties, and in the meantime, come write about or photograph or DJ some music with us too. Send us an email or come along to a meeting.

One of the original student-run nights, and still guaranteed purveyors of good times. They host Moonboots, of Manchester’s renowned Aficionado label and clubnight, on Saturday 25th October,

If we may make you just one recommendation, it’s see this band live. A York duo with astonishing voices and delectable songwriting.

York seems partial to a good tribute band; we suggest you join in the fun. Why not switch your eighties klassics club night for a group of balding middle-aged men reenacting the glory days in the flesh?
A termly dose of disco, funk and soul from your fellow student DJs. Sweaty, groovy and a little bit exhausting.
A slice of northern sound system culture, dishing out dub, roots, reggae and dancehall to partygoers at Crescent Working Men’s Club. You’ll definitely leave with a new friend or two.

The thrashing maelstrom that’s taken the year by storm brings doom to York’s Duchess on Monday October 13th.

Five men, three guitars, drums and a double bass, find them haunting the Golden Fleece and Pivni. Be prepared to sing along.
