Welcome to the 2023 Hammond Auction, Ubuntu!
Hammond eloquently captures the meaning of this year’s theme, Ubuntu, a South African word emphasizing the importance of a group or community. Tonight’s auction is about our community, and how out of this community, we are all a part of something bigger.
This year we are celebrating all things South Africa … the sights, sounds, culture, and cuisine of this remarkable country. Much like the vast offerings of South Africa, you will find some
thing for everyone tonight. Whether that be connecting with friends, sampling authentic cuisine, or delighting in the décor that transports you to this delightful country, an enjoyable evening awaits.
We are especially grateful to the many amazing volunteers who have graciously given of time and talent to ensure the success of the evening. Buyers must remove all items on auction night unless other arrangements are made at checkout. You will need proof of purchase in order to collect your items.

Items will be auctioned off in the order they appear in this catalog.
The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer will be the buyer. In the event of any dispute, the auctioneer shall determine the successful bidder.
A volunteer will bring a contract to the successful bidder to be completed and signed.
Buyer must have proof of purchase from checkout before collecting an item.
Silent Auction
All items in the silent auction have an item number affixed or nearby. Enter the item number into your BidPal device or smartphone to bid on the item.
Each incremental bid amount is displayed on OneCause and constitutes a valid bid.
Each new bid must be entered into the OneCause system (or a Max Bid may be set to allow the system to bid on your behalf).
Only an authorized person may nullify a bid.
In the event of a dispute, the development office shall act as the final authority and shall determine the winning bidder. The decision shall be final.

Members of Hammond’s Class of 2027 designed and sewed this unique quilt during their sixth grade year. This project combined math and history to explore the tradition of secret codes embedded in quilt patterns that would help escaping enslaved people travel along the Underground Railroad. Students worked in groups to create each square before Mr. Boeschen pieced them together to make this oneofakind quilt.
