2040
WHAT WILL MATTER 20
YEARS FROM NOW?
Here are our predictions.
INTELLIGENCE
To understand a complex world.
IMAGINATION
For envisioning what could be.
RESILIENCE
The ability to bounce back, again and again.
OPTIMISM
Because attitude is everything.
LOVE
It makes life worth living.
Hammond students will inherit a world that we can scarcely imagine. Our job? To make sure they’re well prepared for whatever the future holds.
WE TEACH THEM TO THINK AHEAD.
We see the infinite possibility in each child.
We’re here to draw out their genius. One day, each one of them will be ready to take on the world. But first, we nurture their innate curiosity and insatiable inquisitiveness in our Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten programs. We do that by exploring, well, everything – from Spanish to writing computer code.
We have our very own naturalist-inresidence to help us go on brilliant field adventures on our 110-acre campus. Our goal: give even our youngest students a headstart by learning to love learning. There’s no better preparation for whatever the future may hold.
LEAPING › AHEAD
Acres of woodlands and wetlands on campus give our students a “living laboratory” to explore natural eco-systems.
This is an age of wonders. Kindergarteners study early Native-American tools to create throwing darts from corn cobs, sticks, turkey feathers, tree sap, and buffalo chips.
We open minds to a whole world of knowledge.
A great Lower School has the ability to nurture confident independence while cultivating a strong community.
We connect our intrepid, young learners to the bigger world beyond campus. We head to places like Charleston and Brattonsville to experience firsthand what we’re learning about in class. And by fourth grade, they’re ready, willing, and eager to go on an overnight field study adventure.
Throughout the Lower School, students explore creative expression in our vibrant arts programs, including music, drama, and visual arts.
Each week, our Lower School family gathers to sing, share stories, and celebrate birthdays. Our classes are small. For every eight students, there is one teacher to guide and inspire growth. Here, every learning moment counts.
GETTING › AHEAD
Hammond’s Developmental Enrichment Center (DEC) and Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) promote success through early learning-style inventories, programs that build individual study skills and strategies, and ongoing feedback. IT’S ABOUT TAKING PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Students lead their own parent-teacher conferences. In 2055 he will lead an expedition to Mars. 2056 2054
Our students are tenacious, persistent, and driven.
Hammond Middle School students build circuits out of Christmas lights. Prototype new water floats. And learn about aircraft from military pilots. They also sing, dance, and perform.
Middle schoolers take on new challenges, embrace new perspectives, and venture
out into new cultures. Along the way, they discover what it takes to come into their own. They learn how to think fast, on their feet, and ahead. After all, what you learn today feeds what you can accomplish tomorrow.
TRAVELING › AHEAD
Students step into 18th-century Colonial Williamsburg. Zoom off into space at the Kennedy Space Center. And head to D.C. to understand justice, equity, service, and duty.
THROUGH OUR COUNTRY OF STUDY PROGRAM, students are immersed in the history, languages, arts, and culture of a foreign nation – like Morocco, Peru, New Zealand, and India.
EVERY MS STUDENT BELONGS TO AN ADVISORY GROUP – of peers, teachers, coaches, and staff.

Upper School students dive deep into every subject from computer science to global issues to creative writing. They expand their comfort zones via trips
to Costa Rica and whitewater rafting down the Nantahala. They’re champions in the arts, winning top honors in the South Carolina Independent School Association’s dance and drama competitions. Through it all, they’re becoming the kind of leaders the world will one day need.

Curiosity, meet creativity.
At Hammond, we believe in the power of the arts to liberate minds and spirits to create without limit. So, we give all of our students plenty of opportunities to discover what they’re capable of in music, dance, theatre, and art.
Our lower school students write plays, design costumes, and produce their own music. Fifth and sixth graders get serious about visual art with an intense nine-week workshop. And our upper school students, study sound design, musical theatre, ballroom dance, and a whole lot more.
Hammond’s Select Ensemble went on a concert tour of Austria and Italy, which included signing alongside the Sistine Chapel Choir at New Year’s Day Mass with Pope Francis.
Lean forward and dive in.
Hammond is about more than impressive test scores. We learn and grow together as a community. One of the biggest lessons we teach is that character counts mightily. We talk about what it means to be a part of something bigger than yourself and personal responsibility.
