BOLD GIRLS / JAN & FEB RITA, SUE AND BOB TOO / FEB LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT / APR & MAY PASSING PLACES / MAY A NIGHT TO REMEMBER / MAY

Our building first opened as a theatre 140 years ago. We now need to redevelop our building to be welcoming, accessible and open to all audiences, artists, participants and local communities for generations to come.

AND MORE…

The Citizens Theatre Company will temporarily move out of the building from June 2018 until Autumn 2020 while building works take place. During this time you’ll be able to enjoy Citizens Theatre productions and participatory activities at Tramway, Scotland Street School Museum and other venues across Glasgow and further afield. We want a Citizens Theatre that everyone can be proud of. We’re asking for your help to make this happen.

But what starts out as a riotous night out, leads to the spilling of some very sobering truths in the early hours. Packed with abrasive humour, Bold Girls is a story of love, friendship and betrayal.

The cast includes Deirdre Davis, best known to fans of BBC Scotland’s River City as Eileen Donachie, one of the show’s original characters and part of the Shieldinch community for 14 years. Director Richard Baron’s 2012 production of Rona Munro’s Iron for Firebrand was described as “thrilling” (List) and “Simply heart-stopping” (Scotsman). Recommended for 12+

Celebrated for its wickedly funny dialogue and startling insight, Rita, Sue and Bob Too became a hit film in the 1980s. Now, a crack cast including James Atherton (Hollyoaks, Coronation Street) and Taj Atwal (BBC1’s In the Club; Sky 1’s Stella; East is East in the West End) reclaim this masterpiece for the stage. The production comes to the Citizens Theatre following a run at London's Royal Court Theatre, where the play was first staged in 1982. Recommended for 14+

Exactly a hundred years ago in the Gorbals, as World War One draws towards its bloody close, audience and performers, soldiers and civilians, prepare for a big night out in the theatre to help them forget their troubles. But those troubles come right into the auditorium with them: Russia is in revolution, Ireland is on the point of civil war, and the world is in chaos on a night in the Royal Princess’s Theatre at 119 Gorbals Street that none of them will ever forget. Performed by a company drawn from our local community and from across Glasgow, A Night to Remember will be the last production presented by the Citizens Theatre before we begin our building redevelopment project. 1936. In villages, towns and cities across Scotland, 549 lives of contrasting backgrounds, ideologies and religions are gradually intertwining. Spurred on by their burning passion for equality and freedom, they will form the Scottish ranks of the Spanish Civil War’s legendary International Brigade. Based on a true story, this new play follows four miners from the streets of East Lothian to the valleys of Spain. They gave up everything they knew: for a land they did not know; for a people they had never met; and for a cause they believed was right. This new play with songs and storytelling is directed by Jack Nurse, who recently directed Lampedusa in our Circle Studio.

This performance will be part of manipulate Visual Theatre Festival in 2018 produced by Puppet Animation Scotland.

BSL interpreted information about our season is available to view on our website.

AUDIO DESCRIBED & CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES AD Visually impaired attenders can listen to a description around the dialogue of the performance. We’ve invested in new audio description equipment, which is now available to use for groups of up to 45 people in any seat in all areas of the auditorium. Headsets are available from Box Office. Touch Tours available if booked in advance. Our regular audio describers include Christopher McKiddie and Lyn Mulvenna.

GUIDE DOGS ARE WELCOME WHEELCHAIR ACCESS Available in the Main Auditorium and Circle Studio. Adapted toilet and lift available. Ramp access available in lower foyer. Lift to Circle Studio available. INDUCTION LOOP & RELAY OF SHOW Induction loop and infrared systems are provided at every performance. We have recently upgraded our equipment to provide a relay of the show through a headset, which you may benefit from if you have difficulties hearing the dialogue from the stage. Headsets are available from the Box Office, with no need to book in advance. Just ask for a headset when you arrive, and our Box Office staff will be happy to demonstrate the equipment to you.
