Raskolnikov is surrounded by the harsh injustices of the world: the grime of poverty and prostitution, unscrupulous pawnbrokers chasing debts, and a sister about to marry someone she doesn’t love to keep her family alive. His guilt is unbearable. Only Sonya, a downtrodden prostitute, can offer any chance of redemption.

Chris Hannan’s stage adaptation is an exciting, fresh and accessible new way to explore Dostoyevsky’s masterpiece, realised by the award-winning creative team behind The Three Musketeers and the Princess of Spain, led by Dominic Hill. Recommended for 12+

Austin ‘the achiever’, an earnest screenwriter on the verge of success, is working on a script he has sold to a Hollywood producer while house-sitting for his mother in LA. When his brother Lee ‘the drifter’ and petty thief decides to stop by, he pitches his own idea for a movie and convinces the producer to ditch Austin’s love story for his own trashy Western tale. Now they must work together to secure the deal. But with mistrust and jealousy bubbling under the surface, their own flaws threaten to get in the way. Featuring Alex Ferns – best known for his EastEnders role as Trevor Morgan, ‘Britain's most-hated soap villain’ and for his “performance of a lifetime” (The Scotsman) as Jimmy Boyle in the recent UK tour of The Hardman – and Eugene O’Hare, last seen on the Citizens stage in Pinter’s The Caretaker. The production is directed by Phillip Breen who recently directed the Royal Shakespeare Company's hit production of The Merry Wives of Windsor and has received critical acclaim for his Citizens Theatre productions of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, The Caretaker, The Shadow of a Gunman and Arturo Ui over the past decade.

Saved from the jaws of Shere Khan the tiger, Mowgli is to be raised by a family of wolves. To survive, he must learn the Laws of the Jungle from Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther. A brave little man cub grows into a confident and care-free young boy. But danger is never far away and Shere Khan is hungry for revenge. As Mowgli faces each peril and pitfall, he must decide whether he belongs in the world of men or with the animal kingdom. Mowgli’s vibrant jungle home is brought to life in this adventurous tale where fun and friendship are mixed with heart-stopping dangers and surprises, in a fresh new imagining of Kipling’s original stories of family, community and belonging. Olivia’s melancholic, puritanical household clashes head on with Sir Toby’s insatiable appetite for drunken debauchery. Orsino’s relentless pursuit of Olivia and Malvolio’s extraordinary transformation typify the madness of love in Illyria, a land of make-believe and illusion. Explosive, funny and fast-paced, this 90-minute joyous celebration of romance, satire and mistaken identity is crafted into one of the most exciting and accessible productions of Shakespeare’s much-loved comedy by Filter, one of the most dynamic young theatre companies touring the UK.

“The most hardhearted purists would melt at Filter’s 90-minute reworking… For newcomers to Shakespeare, I can’t think of a better introduction” Sunday Times

Originally commissioned for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Complete Works Festival

“Puts the fun back into Twelfth Night and allows us to become participants in a feast of misrule.” THE GUARDIAN

To coincide with our production of Crime and Punishment we present this brutal and darkly comic realisation of one man’s hate letter to society. A bitter and misanthropic man sits in the dark nest he has created for himself, scrawling his paranoid, confused memoirs. Torn between his derision for the ‘ant hill’ of humankind and his searing contempt for himself, his isolation leads to his retreat underground. He scrapes at the ugliest parts of his ego until an encounter with a real life 'ant' throws everything into disarray… Recommended for 15+

An Ankur production in association with National Theatre of Scotland and Citizens Theatre Works-in-progress CIRCLE STUDIO 19 – 21 Sep 7.30pm Tickets £10 full price £6 concessions Director Guy Hollands

‘Finding Noor’ by Nalini Chetty is inspired by the extraordinary life of Noor Inayat Khan. An Indian princess, a Sufi who wrote Buddhist fables for children, an antiimperialist who spied for the British Empire and the first female operator in Nazi occupied France. A rehearsed reading. ‘Fifty Shades of Black’ by Lou Prendergast is one woman’s ironic probe into shifting power relations across sex, race, class and history. Part reggae gig, part autobiographical monologue, it is an interweaving exploration of ScottishCaribbean connections from within her own family and the history of slavery, to modern day exploitation and the sexual politics of the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon. “News that the theatre is to receive a major re-vamp will be welcomed across the city.”

“From Robbie Coltrane to Alan Rickman and Gary Oldman, the Citizens Theatre has a special significance for Britain’s acting aristocracy… …but nothing could compare to the affection in which it is held by the people of Glasgow. News that the theatre is to receive a major re-vamp will be welcomed across the city. This is a theatre that actively engages with the community it serves… …has given thousands of children their very first taste of theatre…loved for its Victorian quirks of character and for being unfailingly entertaining, challenging and fun.” The Herald Plans for a major re-development of the Citizens Theatre building are currently being finalised and subject to funds being raised, work will commence in 2016/17. DEDICATE A SEAT

In memory of David and Mary Spence a dedication story by Marian Wallace “Some of my earliest memories were of being babysat by my Aunt Cathie and Uncle Jimmy while my parents David and Mary Spence attended the Citizens Theatre, normally in the company of one or two other couples. After a performance they would go back to someone’s home for supper and have animated discussions about the play. It seemed fitting after their deaths that my sisters and I should honour their lives by making a contribution to their beloved Citizens. We decided to purchase two seats and dedicate one to each of them as people ‘who loved the theatre’. As children we were taken to the Citizens which left us all with a love of live theatre. In recent years, my husband John and I have booked several performances for each season, knowing that there is an interesting new experience in store at every visit. Soon we will have new, comfortable seats to sit on, thanks in part to people like my sisters and I who have made dedications to loved ones.” Read more Seat Dedication stories or choose your own seat in our interactive auditorium at citz.co.uk/support_us WAYS TO DONATE SEAT DEDICATIONS – £500 TEXT SEAT45 plus donation of £1, £2, £5 or £10 to 70070 WITH YOUR TICKET £1 You can also donate any amount at the box office, online at citz.co.uk or in the donation boxes in the foyer.
