WORLD PREMIERE

If there’s a God, which at the moment I DOUBT, I want you to curse him. If there’s any justice, I want them – both of them – in a car crash. Her husband’s gone and her future isn’t bright. Imprisoned in her marital home, Medea can’t work, can’t sleep and increasingly can’t cope. While her child plays, she plots her revenge. This startlingly modern version of Euripides’ classic tragedy explores the private fury bubbling under public behaviour and how in today’s world a mother, fuelled by anger at her husband’s infidelity, might be driven to commit the worst possible crime. Receiving its world premiere at the Citizens, the production is adapted and directed by one of the UK’s most exciting and in demand young writers Mike Bartlett, who has received critical acclaim for his plays including Earthquakes in London, Cock (Olivier Award), a new stage version of Chariots of Fire and Love Love Love.

Seven teenagers with a cause. A protest that captured the imagination of a country. Scotland 2005. A family is ripped from their home in a high rise flat in Glasgow and driven away in the middle of the night to be deported. Driven by a fierce sense of injustice, a group of seven schoolgirls fight for the life of their friend and for the rights of children of asylumseekers in Scotland. They take on the Scottish Government and the Home Office and succeed where adults and politicians failed. Based on the true story of one of the most vocal and powerful asylum campaigns to catch the imagination of the media and inspire a community to unite behind its residents; Glasgow Girls is a new life-affirming musical for a multi-cultural Scotland still in transition. A TRUE STORY Glasgow Girls were a group of seven schoolgirls from Drumchapel High School who protested against the detention of one of their friends, who had fled from war-torn Kosovo. Publicity grew as the girls challenged the First Minister and publicly voiced their concerns as more children at their school were dawn raided, detained and deported. Fairy tale misfits abound in this weird and wonderful adaptation where Tim Burton meets Shrek meets “Once Upon a Time”. Pricked by a spindle on her 16th birthday, Sleeping Beauty falls into a deep, deep sleep under the watchful eye of the mischievous, flatulent, Fairy Goody. Obliged to play matchmaker for the slumbering princess, Goody puts prospective princes through their paces in search of the one who will awaken her mistress with a kiss. But the prospect of happy-ever-after is not so straightforward in this gleefully gruesome take on the traditional tale. Perilous secrets will be revealed and ogres lurk within the kingdom, as Beauty uses all her wits to get her family home safe. A fun, family adventure to celebrate the festive season! TAM O’SHANTER CREATED & DIRECTED BY GERRY MULGREW

A rollicking evocation of the traditional tale. Based on the famous poem by Robert Burns and incorporating many of his other works, this raucous production is a celebration of the national bard’s lust for life and an exploration of his Ayrshire community, its rituals, courtships and working life. With over twenty songs, live music and an eleven strong ensemble of actors, dancers and musicians, this is an evening of outrageous hilarity, death-defying rhyming, anachronisms and short skirts!
