THREE SISTERS BY ANTON CHEKHOV Translated by Stephen Mulrine
One of Chekhov’s finest plays, Three Sisters is an epic family saga. One year after the death of their father, three daughters living in a small provincial town dream of escaping to Moscow to find a life worthy of their intellect and station. Instead they find themselves trapped, lonely and despairing, unable to extricate themselves from their rustic surroundings. But the arrival of a charming officer turns their world upside down and reminds them that happiness is possible. Chekhov believed that life is lived in ordinary moments and this classic play aches with unrequited love and perpetual longing. Final year students from the RSAMD bring energy and vitality to this new interpretation of a timeless masterpiece.

This place is so important, providing entertainment not just for the lucky Gorbals residents who have it on their doorstep but for all the people of Glasgow.
i’ve been coming to drama classes for about a year now and it’s a really great place. When i walked through the doors i didn’t know anyone but now i’ve made quite a few friends through it. We cover a lot of stuff and it is something new each week. i like that it isn’t too structured. We are given a lot of freedom. We are often given a simple stimulus and are allowed to branch off and go nuts with it!

i’M A CITIZEN
i have developed a close connection with the Theatre both personally and professionally. As Principal Teacher of Drama at Bannerman high School, i view the work of the Citizens as an extension to our drama curriculum and have always felt strongly that children need to experience the magic of watching a live play. There’s always an open door at the Citz, it’s a theatre for the people, it’s accessible and it takes this role very seriously. KAREN BORlAND, AUDIENCE MEMBER

What you get at the Citizens is a complete theatrical experience. From the moment you negotiate the revolving doors, you’re out of the humdrum everyday world and into the magic of the place. There’s such a welcoming atmosphere and you get to see plays here that you would have little chance of seeing elsewhere done in a distinctive style which is the Citizens own.
