WELCOME CITIZENS COMMUNITY COMPANY CELEBRATES ITS 10TH BIRTHDAY! Throughout 2009 we will be marking 10 years of our Community Company including a unique artistic exchange with Länsteatern i Örebro, a theatre in Sweden which set up its own community theatre project this year inspired by the successful Citizens model.

‘ I REALLY LIKE THE CITIZENS BECAUSE EVERYONE IS VERY FRIENDLY AND IT FEELS LIKE ONE BIG FAMILY’ That was just one of the views shared by our new Young Consultants team who have been invited by the theatre to share their opinions and ideas on how we can do even more to engage children and young people in the life of our theatre.

CITIZENS COMPANY

A timeless classic by one of the world’s great playwrights.

BY HENRIK IBSEN IN A VERSION BY AMELIA BULLMORE

Helene Alving is about to dedicate an orphanage she has built in memory of her dead husband. For years she put up with his infidelity for fear of being shunned by the community. Now her beloved son has returned home from Paris, but he brings with him a deadly secret and her carefully constructed façade is in danger of being destroyed. Ibsen puts society under the microscope in this fascinating portrayal of a family haunted by revelations of the moral corruptions in its past. One of Ibsen’s most powerful and controversial works, Ghosts is still hauntingly relevant today.

In 2009, Anthony Neilson and Headlong Theatre are proud to present a reconstruction of this historic and extraordinary evening of mystery and magic, spectacle and strangeness. Behold… The Amazing Feats Of Loneliness! Anthony Neilson is one of Britain’s most acclaimed playwrights, creating pioneering, taboo-breaking new work in a bold and compassionate way. Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness is a beautiful and very funny exploration of performance and performers, of sadness, mortality and wonder.

Infrared headsets are available on request from the Box Office and can be reserved at the time of booking. Look out for the symbol in our diary to find out what performances are available with this service.

We offer a Sign Language Theatre Interpreter on stage during certain performances. Look out for the symbol in our diary to find out what performances are available with this service. C CAPTIONED PERFORMANCE

Captioning converts the spoken word into text which provides access to live performance for people with hearing loss. In captioning the words appear on a screen at the same time as they are sung or spoken. Captions also include sound effects and offstage noises. Look out for the symbol in our diary to find out what performances are available with this service. For more information on captioning please visit www.scottishtheatre.org
