HEAR MY VOICE

INTRODUCTION Pupils from Sandwood Primary School and Lourdes Secondary School in Glasgow have been participating in a project called HEAR MY VOICE with the Citizens Theatre. The pupils have taken part in fun drama, creative writing and storytelling activities with staff from the theatre’s Learning team. Initially the pupils worked in separate groups, then all three groups joined up and participated together. The pupils encouraged each other, learned from each other and enjoyed working collaboratively. This book contains photographs and pieces of writing that were created during the academic year 2019 - 2020. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with the wonderful pupils and staff on this project! WHAT I LOVE ABOUT… aeroplanes is turbulence. It shakes the plane, makes it bumpy and you see the wings shaking. It makes me feel happy because it’s fun going up and down. I love going on carnival rides that go upside down! WHAT I HATE IS… the idea of getting taken away by the police because I went on the school roof once. I’m scared of the police but I’m more scared of falling off the school roof. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT… my sisters is they inspire my childhood, because I didn’t get to see my childhood, but they’re showing me what it’s like to be naughty, to be cute, and they speak like me – they use the same words I used when I was little. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT… friends (sometimes) is that they help you, they care for you and they’re always there for you. When you’ve had an argument it can be hard to make up. But you CAN make up.

THANK YOU! Pupils - we hope you’ve enjoyed taking part in the HEAR MY VOICE project. We’ve certainly enjoyed working with you all. During the project you’ve made new friends, visited a different school and visited a theatre. This project is called HEAR MY VOICE and we hope that you have been encouraged to use your voices, to express your feelings and opinions and to share your wonderful creativity with others. We hope you choose to treasure this book and show it to those who are close to you, so they too can enjoy seeing all the wonderful activities you have done. We’d like to thank Debbie Young and Kathleen McBride for allowing us to work with you and for joining in with each session so whole-heartedly, Miss Fitzpatrick, Diane and Mr Bendix-Lewis for taking part with such enthusiasm, all the class teachers for allowing us to take you out of your classes for the sessions, and finally YOU for being so willing to join in with all the crazy things we suggested. We’ve loved working with you! We’d like to thank Teighlor Gribben and Sophie O’Mailley for taking such amazing photos of the sessions. They capture the fun so perfectly! We’d also like to thank our funders The Ragdoll Foundation, The Gannochy Trust and The Robertson Trust. Without their support this project would not have been able to happen.
