CREATIVE TEAM DOMINIC HILL | DIRECTOR Dominic Hill is Artistic Director of the Citizens Theatre. Since joining the Citizens in 2011, he has directed Hansel & Gretel, The Rivals, This Restless House (winner of Best Director, 2016 CATS Awards), Endgame, The Choir, Fever Dream: Southside, A Christmas Carol, Hamlet, The Libertine, Miss Julie, Crime and Punishment (winner of Best Director and Best Production, 2014 CATS Awards), Far Away, Seagulls, Doctor Faustus, Sleeping Beauty, Krapp’s Last Tape, Footfalls, King Lear and Betrayal (winner of Best Director, 2012 CATS Award). Before joining the Citizens he was Artistic Director of the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh and Joint Artistic Director of Dundee Rep. Other credits include Falstaff and Macbeth (Scottish Opera) and The City Madam (Royal Shakespeare Company).
TOM PIPER | DESIGNER Recent designs include: iHo (Hampstead Theatre); Harrogate (HighTide & Royal Court); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Royal Shakespeare Company & UK Tour); Carmen La Cubana (Le Chatelet, Paris); Endgame, King Lear, Hamlet, The Libertine (Citizens Theatre); Red Velvet (West End, Tricycle Theatre & New York); A Wolf In Snakeskin Shoes (Tricycle Theatre); The King’s Speech (Birmingham Rep, Chichester Festival Theatre & UK Tour); Orfeo (Royal Opera House); Tamburlaine The Great (Theatre For a New Audience, New York). As Associate Designer of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Tom designed over 30 of their shows including The Histories for which he won an Olivier for best costume design. Tom designed Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London and received an MBE for services to Theatre and First World War commemorations. CHRIS DAVEY | LIGHTING DESIGNER Chris has designed extensively for Royal National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company. He has won three Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland including Best Design Awards for Anna Karenina at the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh and Beauty and the Beast and Peer Gynt at Dundee Rep. He also won the TMA Best Lighting Design for Dial M for Murder (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and Beyond the Horizon (Royal & Derngate Northampton). CLAIRE MCKENZIE | COMPOSER Claire McKenzie studied Composition and Musical Direction at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she received the Patrons’ Prize for Composition from the Royal Schools of Music, the Stevenson Scholarship and the Paul Kelly Prize for Drama. Theatre credits include: The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Iliad, Thon Man Moliere, Faith Healer, Hedda Gabler, The Venetian Twins, The BFG (Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh); Little Red and the Wolf (Dundee Rep/Noisemaker, nominated for UK Theatre Award and CATS award for Best Production for Children and Young People); Forest Boy (New York Musical Festival/Noisemaker, winner of the S&S Award for Best New Musical in Development); The Girl Who (Merry-Go-Round Playhouse New York/Edinburgh Fringe); The Broons (Sell-a-Door), Hecuba, Mill Lavvies (Dundee Rep); Hansel and Gretel, After the End, Divided City, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella (Citizens Theatre); Roman Bridge (National Theatre of Scotland). CITIZENS THEATRE The Citizens Theatre is an iconic venue and theatre company based in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. It has been one of Scotland’s flagship producing theatres since 1945. Fondly known as the Citz, the company is led by Artistic Director, Dominic Hill and Executive Director, Judith Kilvington. It presents a world-class, contemporary repertoire based on bold new interpretations of classic texts.
