Hunter moved from Glasgow to pursue his studies on the BA Acting course at Drama Centre London, where he graduated in 2015. Roles in training include: Bunce in One Flea Spare and the title role in Eddie Howell’s production of The Wolf Man. Theatre credits include: The Enchanted (Pharmacy Theatre, York, London and Edinburgh Festival Fringe). Writer & producer credits include: A Hog in a Bin (Prevalent Grit, with Theatre N16). CREATIVE TEAM HELENA KAUT-HOWSON | WRITER/DIRECTOR
Born in Poland, Helena trained as a director at the PWST in Warsaw and later at RADA in London. Working both in UK and abroad, (Poland,Canada, USA, Japan, Israel and the Republic of Ireland) she has directed over 100 theatre and opera productions. Between 1991 and 1995, she was Artistic Director of Theatre Clwyd raising its profile to an international league and gaining awards for her outstanding body of work. She’s directed in London as well as in all major regional theatres from Citizens Theatre (Man and Superman, 1990) to the Royal Exchange Manchester and the Royal Shakespeare Company. She regards as her landmark production King Lear with Kathryn Hunter. Recent work includes, Sons Without Fathers at the Belgrade Theatre, Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass at MMU, Manchester, both plays written by herself, and The Lower Depths at the Arcola Theatre, London.
MARCELLO MAGNI | MOVEMENT DIRECTOR
Marcello studied at Jaques Lecoq School. Co-founder of Complicite, Marcello has worked with Complicite for over 25 years: The Visit, Streets of Crocodiles, A Minute Too Late, The Winter’s Tale and Help I Am Alive. He has collaborated with his wife, Kathryn Hunter, since 1987 including: Fragments and The Valley of Astonishment directed by Peter Brook (Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord) With Peter Brook, he has also collaborated as a movement director on A Magic Flute and as a performer in The Tightrope. In 2015, he created and performed the two-hander theatre show Marcel with Jos Houben. Theatre Credits include: Hearts (directed by Robert Lepage); Red Demon, The Bee (Hideki Noda); King Lear, The Rose Tattoo (Helena Kaut-Howson); The Birds, The Comedy of Errors, Pericles, Wiseguy Scapino (Kathryn Hunter); Arlecchino. Paweł is a stage, costume and light designer, pedagogue, painter and architect. He trained at the University of Technology and in Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Paweł is a professor of Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw; Dean of Scenography Faculty; has created about 320 works with the best Polish directors in the best Polish theatres and in the UK, Russia, Germany, Greece, Holland, France and Israel) including 50 opera productions and is a member of Education Commission of OISTAT, representing Poland. Opera credits include: Faust, Carmen, Aida, Die Fledermaus, Onegin, Lucia di Lammermoor, Macbeth, Nabucco, L’elisir d’amore, Turandot, Le nozze di Figaro. Musicals credits include: Evita, Rent, Shrek, Korczak, Jekyll & Hyde, Fiddler on the Roof. BOLESŁAW RAWSKI | COMPOSER
Bolesław is a theatre composer. Born and resident in Kraków, Poland, after graduating from the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy he specialised in composition for theatre. He is a founder member of Studio for Spatial Music at the Słowacki Theatre, Kraków where he was Musical Director from 1984 to 1999. Since 2003, he has been musical associate for the Rafał Kmita Company, composing music for all their shows, including for acclaimed musical: O! Vey! or Stories Spiced With Cinnamon (Stu Theatre, Kraków and Music Theatre in Łódz). Bolesław has composed music for over 150 theatre and television productions, ballet productions. TV, ballet and theatre credits include: Don Juan (Stary Theatre, Kraków); Hamlet, Master Builder Solness (Contemporary Theatre of Athens); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Bunkamura Theatre Cocoon, Tokyo); Tropical Madness ( Rozmaitości Theatre, Warsaw); Shadows of the Great City (Kraków Opera Ballet); The Tailor (TV Theatre, Kraków). This will be Bolesław’s fourth collaboration with director Helena KautHowson King Lear (Haymarket Theatre, Leicester/ Young Vic and Panasonic Globe Theatre, Tokyo); Uncle Vanya, Sons Without Fathers (Belgrade Theatre and Arcola Theatre, London).
MARTYN DAVIES | SOUND DESIGNER
Martyn has been working as a sound engineer and designer for many years. Sound operation has taken him from Churchill Theatre in Bromley, around the world and back to the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. Sound designs include: Of Mice and Men, Demon Headmaster, Telstar, Shoot the Crow, One Night in November, Three Minute Heroes, Cougar and numerous pantomimes for Qdos and the Belgrade Theatre. He has operated festivals from Leeds to the Stratford-upon-Avon Folk Festival.
