The Broomfield Therapeutic Recreation program offers Special Olympics throughout the year. There are nine sports offered. Summer sports are: Softball, Golf, Bocce ball. All abilities welcome! The program is also looking for enthusiastic volunteers.

Active Adult Golf League

We meet on Tuesday mornings for a round of golf at Greenway Park Golf Course. Each week players will be assigned a partner and participate in various fun golf games. COUCH TO 5K

This program will have you off the couch and running 3.1 miles! Learn the basics of running form and safety techniques as you follow a trainer-led running plan. The Couch to 5K helps with your mileage goals, provides motivation and creates a support group with other people! You will be ready to run the Broomfield Days 5K on Saturday, September 23. Runs will be outside, weather permitting. Child sitting is not available for this class.

Cancer Exercise Training Program

CANCER SURVIVORS ~ FITNESS FOR LIFE

Cancer Specific Training provides cancer survivors in the community with fitness programs that promote healing, wellness and survivorship in a healthy and positive environment through a variety of options. If the Cancer Exercise Training Program highlighted does not meet your needs, please email fitness@broomfield.org. Cancer Survivors Fitness For Life Program

Designed for cancer survivors (and caregivers, if desired) whether in treatment or post recovery. During this program, you will be provided with information on how to take the next step to a life of fitness and health. This program covers cardiovascular and strength training, flexibility and balance, health and nutrition, environmental cautions, lymphedema care and neuropathy. Participants will receive an initial assessment to establish baseline information, followed by an individualized workout program designed by the cancer exercise specialist and delivered in a one-onone personal training session. Then participants will attend two group classes per week which focus on specific topics and group exercise workouts for the day. The program concludes with an individual assessment with the cancer exercise specialist to assess what has changed and plan the future steps to health! The program includes unlimited use of the Paul Derda Recreation Center and the Broomfield Community Center while enrolled in the program.

JUST FOR GIRLS!

This class is designed especially for girls in grades 6-7. The six week course will focus on exercise, movement, nutrition, stress relief, building self-esteem and creating healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Each girl will receive a journal to help her incorporate a home connection with the topics that will be covered in class. Girls will also have the option to receive their weight room certification during the course to ensure their success after the course ends.

Serenity

Treat yourself to this yoga practice which focuses on providing a sense of calm, well being and renewal. Class starts seated in a chair and progresses into standing with optional support of the chair. Serenity yoga is available to everyone regardless of the body's abilities. This class does not lay or sit on the floor.

Chair Flow

This class is designed to introduce the basic yoga postures from a seated position to gradually introduce body awareness and posture. During standing postures, the chair is utilized as a prop to allow the body ease and comfort while working with alignment to increase strength and flexibility. This class does not lay or sit on the floor.

Gentle

This class explores standing, seated and lying down poses in a gentle, unhurried way. Come as you are; selfacceptance is the first step. This class is appropriate for those working through injury, limited mobility, or who prefer a softer, gentler approach to yoga. A chair may be used in some classes.

Active Adult

This practice will integrate the strength, balance and flexibility of yoga along with breathing exercises to achieve harmony between body and mind, as well as stress relief. Each class will be a journey through a physical and mental balance that can be tailored to individual needs through modifications, including the use of a chair for support, if needed.

Yoga

In this class the basic, foundational yoga postures are practiced to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in the body. Pilates Reformer Fitness Class

Pilates Reformer classes are a safe, effective way to strengthen your core and build lean muscle while improving your posture and flexibility. Training on the Reformer allows for a low impact workout to re-balance muscles around the joint, build core strength, and compliments other forms of fitness. Pilates emphasizes creating more efficient movement patterns while improving body awareness. Exercises can be modified to match each individual’s fitness level. Pilates is for everyone! The Pilates Reformer Intro Series is required prior to joining a group class.

Three private, 45 minute sessions with a Pilates Reformer instructor are required prior to registering for the group Pilates Reformer classes. Shinkendo

Shinkendo is a Japanese swordsmanship art that teaches the use of the samurai sword (katana). Students will learn the safe handling of the katana as well as swinging drills, solo forms and paired forms. Classes and curriculum are on-going. No special equipment is necessary for the first few sessions, all you will need is comfortable and loose work out attire. Weight Room Orientation

Sign-up for an orientation and learn how to safely use the cardiovascular equipment and selectorized machines for a complete total body workout at either the Paul Derda Recreation Center or the Broomfield Community Center. During your 45-minute appointment, your individualized settings are determined and a total body workout is established for you to meet your fitness goals. Weight room orientation intake form available at the front desk or fill out the Personal Trainer Questionnaire online to be contacted to set up an appointment.

Youth Weight Room Certification

Weight training for youth certification is given on cardiovascular equipment, cable machines and selectorized equipment. Taught by a Certified Personal Trainer, each student learns their individual settings and proper form and technique. Upon successful completion, each student is certified to use the exercise equipment at PDRC and BCC during normal business hours after paying the daily drop-in fee. Available at NO CHARGE for 11-13 year olds with an all facility pass. Massage Therapy

Relieve Stress and Pain! Many athletes use massage therapy as a means of preventing and/or healing sports injuries. Swedish, Deep Tissue and Sports Massage are common therapies that will aid your recovery. They help flush out exercise by – products that cause muscle stiffness and soreness, improve circulation and range of motion, relieve spasms, restore suppleness, and can identify tender areas before they develop into injuries. Regularly scheduled massages help to improve range of motion, and prevent injuries to muscles and tendons, boost energy and endurance, promote endorphin release, thereby reducing pain caused by constricting muscle fibers. Fees are payable at the time of booking. Gratuities are not included.

JENNIFER CORRIGAN is a certified massage therapist who graduated from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy (BCMT) in 1994. Jennifer has been a professional massage therapist since 1995 specializing in Neuromuscular, Deep Tissue, Sports Massage, Swedish and Reflexology.

REBECCA FITZPATRICK graduated from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy with Honors in 1995. She has been a member of the AMTA and Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork since 1995 and Board Certified since 2014. Rebecca is trained in a variety of modalities, specializing in Neuromuscular and Myofascial techniques as well as traditional Swedish massage and Deep Tissue.
