Top 10 Active Outdoor Ideas
Summer 2023
Broomfield wanted to share some ideas for fun outdoor activities on open space, parks, and trails. These activities focus on movement, fun, and community!
1. Make nature observations on iNaturalist.com! Take a picture of any plant, animal, or other living thing, and post it on Broomfield’s iNaturalist page. iNaturalist users can also help identify unknown species. Read more about this fun app at Broomfield.org/iNaturalist.
2. Watch a previous Open Space Speak Series event. These series cover wide ranging topics in the natural world. Check out previous speakers on Broomfield.org/SpeakerSeries
3. Learn more about local birds and engage with birders with the Broomfield Bird Club at Broomfieldbird.club
The Club organizes outings to nearby natural areas and hosts meetings and presentations on local bird life. When you are on a walk, listen for birds singing and compare some of the different songs. Audubon’s Guide to North American Birds has detailed photos and sound clips of birdsongs to help you get started.
5. Have a local wildlife question or concern? Contact a Broomfield Wildlife Master. Local residents volunteer their time to answer your questions about wildlife concerns or conflicts for residents. Call 303.464.5554 and leave a message on a voicemail. A volunteer will call back to respond with helpful information.
6. Take time-lapse photos during the changing seasons. The days are getting longer; Summer solstice is June 21,2023. Pick a tree, view, or nature spot you like and document the changes with daily pictures as summer
4. Visit a Bike Repair Stationalong the trails. repair stations to fix and maintain your bike! can be found at four sites throughout the communit are located at:
• US 36 Bikeway Interlocken;
• McKay Lake Bike
• Arista; and
• Paul Derda

7. Use the Broomfield Voice page to get involved. Give your feedback on three management plans: the Open Space, Parks, Recreation and Trails (OSPRT) Plan Refresh, the Raptor Management Plan, and the Markel and Wottge Open Space Plan. Learn more and get BroomfieldVoice.com
8. Learn to navigate the stars. The night sky in your backyard or nearest open space will change a little day by day! Search for free guides in your app store, such as SkyView Lite, Star Walk 2, or Night Sky to help you learn the constellations above you.
Locate one of your favorite peaks as you look out to the west at the Front Range. Use the Peak Finder Broomfield.org/PeakFinder to discover the different peaks you can see from Broomfield.
Notice the different types of leaves and flowers ontrees and shrubs. How are they different? Can you tell them apart? Watch as these plants transform from season to season.

EARLY LEARNING: LITTLE LEARNERS PLUS
This class is an extended class for preschool children. The fun summer themes place emphasis on playing and having fun with friends. Games, crafts, science projects, math, and outside fun will be included! Children must be toilet trained and not in diapers or pull-ups to be eligible for this class. EARLY LEARNING: EARLY EXPLORERS SUMMER
This class offers various activities that are fun for Pre K children or children who have not attended Kindergarten. Each week will be a new adventure! Children will focus on the theme of the week by playing games, science projects, math, arts and crafts, and outside activities. Make sure to wear your sunscreen! CAMP EXPLORER SUMMER 2023
Summer is just around the corner and so is Camp Explorer! This registration is part of the 2-step preregistration process and is required for all participants prior to registering for individual Camp Explorer weeks. Camp Explorer is licensed by the State of Colorado and is held to the highest standards. Our program is open to any child who 6-14 years old. We offer a fantastic summer camp program that makes sure your kids have fun all summer long! Kids are busy with games, arts & crafts, field trips, swimming, and playing. Trips from previous years include The Zoo, Broomfield Bay, Water World, Rafting, Hiking, Elitches, Jump City, Casa Bonita and many more.

CAMP EXPLORER OUTDOOR CAMP
This program encourages teens to familiarize themselves with outdoor adventure. Each day they will experience a new outdoor activity such as hiking, rock climbing, zip lining and paddle boarding. Field trips will be posted online by May 5, 2023.

Keep the whole family active during summer break! Parents can stay at the facility and work out or run errands, while the kids burn off energy in the gym or the pool. Different activities are planned each day, activities are subject to change. Drop-In care may be available based on space availability. Daily Activities could be the following gym , stem activities, Swimming, and Splash day at the Broomfield Commons.

Build connections and get your hands dirty with CSU Extension at the Teaching Vegetable Garden! Families with 3rd to 5th graders can explore a new gardening activity each month and learn how to grow food together at home.

WHAT IS THERAPEUTIC RECREATION?
The Therapeutic Recreation Program is designed to provide and enhance recreation opportunities for people of all ability levels and ages to participate in leisure services. Both specialized classes and inclusion opportunities are offered.
MAINSTREAM/ INCLUSION
Broomfield offers assistance to individuals with or without disabilities to recreate together. If you see a class offered in the program guide and would like to participate but need assistance, contact Rachel Robbins, C.T.R.S. at 303.460.6924 or TR@Broomfield.org. Please allow three weeks prior to the start of class to allow time to provide the necessary support. Staff and trained volunteers work hard to provide the highest level of experience possible to the participants. When registering please allow enough time before the class starts, and register according to the needs of the participant. Thanks for your cooperation in helping keep this program a success.

Group: Participants who are independent or require minimal verbal prompting and minimal behaviors.

Learn the game of bocce ball or work on your existing skills as you enjoy a relaxing evening of the sport bocce ball in the park. Participants will learn the techniques of "lawn bowling". If you choose to compete in a Special Olympics sanctioned tournament your medical must be up to date prior to the first competition.
