Honor your own ancestors, those we have lost and our diverse community with the Broomfield Library Community Ofrenda. Contribute items of your own to carry on the traditions of previous generations, or simply pay respects to this rich cultural tradition. The ofrenda will be on display during the month of October in the Library. Bring items for the ofrenda at any point during the month. Tendremos una ofrenda comunitaria donde se podrá honrar a sus antepasados y seres queridos que hayan fallecido. La Ofrenda Comunitaria estará construida en la Biblioteca de Broomfield. Meet your neighbors and dive deep into the stories of Broomfielders in this spotlight exhibit drawn from the oral histories recorded for the Broomfield Out Loud project. With visuals, artistic representations, and quotes drawn from oral history recordings, these exhibits include pieces at both the Broomfield Depot Museum as well as at the Broomfield Library. The recent Marshall Fire brought to light the importance of having a home inventory in the event your home was ever damaged or lost. Your insurance company will ask for this list of belongings in order to help you in the rebuilding and recovery process. In this two-part class, you will learn how to quickly and easily create a home inventory and store it in the cloud for safekeeping. You will also learn other simple steps you can take to prepare your family for an emergency. This series has 2 classes. Registering for the first class will also register you for the second class. Hear stories from indigenous panelists that highlights ways in which Native individuals and tribal organizations and governments continue to build community, thrive, and persevere despite generational trauma, cultural othering and dispossession. Join poet and storyteller SETH Harris for this workshop exploring techniques of tapping into your creative muse. Come away crafting clear, vivid imagery that resonates off the page. Prose writers as well as poets will benefit from this author’s unconventional approach to tickling the muse. All writing levels are welcome. One of Colorado’s best known performance poets, SETH is author of the poetic memoir, A Black Odyssey, and the award-winning satirical novel, The Perfect Stranger. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
Colorado residents age 16 and older may obtain a free Broomfield Library card with both of the following:
• A Photo ID and
• Proof of current address (on a photo ID, a piece of first class mail or an account on your mobile phone) Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive a library card.
There is no residency requirement to participate in Library, Arts, History and CSU Extension programs.
FINE FREE
The Broomfield Library does not charge late fees. Additionally, there are no charges for lost or damaged children’s materials. If you have questions about what materials are included or what it means for your library account, please contact circulation@broomfield.org or call 720-887-2301.
