The Key by Phil Munsey 12:00 p.m. service

SERMON POINTS INTRODUCTION 1. The Key is for Opening / Closing Doors 2. What is the Key? 3. How do we use the key? CONCLUSION

Main Scriptures: Revelation 3:78

“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” Revelation 3:12

“The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name.” Revelation 3:20 “ Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelation 4:12 “After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will

show you what must take place after this.” At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.” INTRODUCTION Pastor Phil Munsey introduced us to the power of the book of Revelation. It’s often a misunderstood book, but there is a blessing for those who will read it. The New Testament books of Matthew, Mark. Luke, and John give us a picture of what Jesus did when he was on Earth. The book of Revelation shows us what Jesus is doing right now. We see through our main scripture that Jesus loves His church and puts all of who He is into His church. Each part of His church is designed for a specific purpose. When it comes to to our journey of faith, there is a key available to us that greatly impacts our journey.

1. The Key Helps Open/Close Doors Pastor Phil talked about a key that gives us the confidence or the Godfidence to know the difference between an exit or the next “it.” When we look in 2 Corinthians 2:12 we see that Paul is given the opportunity to preach to Asia, but the Holy Spirit instructed him not to do it. Paul responds as any of us would and believes this is an open door to share the gospel, so he ignores the Holy Spirit thinking it’s probably the enemy. The Holy Spirit leading gets stronger and Paul recognizes that God is showing him that this is not the open door he thinks it is and he obeys God by not going. As soon as Paul responded in obedience, another door opened for Paul to preach to Macedonia which then lead to the Gentiles hearing the gospel. The Holy Spirit is our guide to helping recognize doors that are opening by God that we must walk through and doors that need to be closed in our lives.

2. What is the Key? In scripture we learn that the “key” is referred to as the “Key of David.” David was the first human being to connect the dots of what God is wanting from us worship. David discovered that the only gap between heaven and earth is worship. He realized that he was a spirit and could connect to God (who is also a spirit) through worshipping.

We often forget about worship. We are so stimulated constantly by our five senses that we ignore our spirit being. Culture puts a major emphasis on the five senses and causes us to focus on external things. David was worshipping God and getting into His presence before it was even legal! The presence of God was a major deal in the old testament and it was reserved for the high priest to enter into the “holy of holies” after following a very strict protocol (for a temporary cleansing of sin). When Jesus died on calvary and rose again, the bible teaches us that the veil in the temple in the holy of holies was ripped in two (symbolic of the fact that we can now enter in God’s presence with boldness because of what Jesus has done for us).

3. How Do We Use the Key? Throughout our lives we learn that closed doors are just as vital as open doors. Scripture refers to God as both the Alpha (beginning) and the Omega (the end). We often think of God as someone who opens new doors of opportunity for us but we often forget that He is also the One who closes doors for us. Vince Lombardi once said “Quitters never win and winners never quit.” However, the truth is that Jesus never said it because winners do quit. They quit the right things at the right time. It’s important for us to understand the current season we are in. The key is being able to listen to the Holy Spirit and allowing Him to direct our steps. There is a direct correlation between worshipping God (getting into His presence) and learning to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. Pastor Phil encouraged us to use this “key of David,” and worship God every day for 57 minutes. This daily discipline will lead to knowing and hearing the voice of God which will guide us through every season in our lives from the big things, to the little things we must make decisions on.

Conclusion: Worship is the “Key of David” and we are able to access this key anytime we want.We were made to worship God and be in His presence. Spend at least 57 minutes a day worshipping God and you will grow in your ability to know and hear His voice. Let us never underestimate the power of worship! Additional Scriptures:
