External Assessment topic Summer 2010: Reality Television Reality Television is a genre of television programming encompassing a range of different formats. What binds them together is that they show ordinary people, or increasingly celebrities, engaged in unscripted activity or contrived situations. The popularity of the genre means that it is impossible to list all programmes which fall under this category. As general guidance for Unit 2, no controlled Assessment for any of the Assignment Banks may be submitted in May 2010 on: •

docusoaps or fly-on-the-wall documentaries such as Airport and Learner Drivers

voyeuristic based productions such as Big Brother and I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here

competition or talent shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and The XFactor

make over programmes such as A Place in the Sun and Changing Rooms.

Centres are able to submit Controlled Assessment on other genres of television programming should they wish to do so.
