The Bravo quote contains the truth about Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who acceded to the throne on Feb. 6, 1952, at the age of 25 upon the death of her father, George VI, and was proclaimed queen by her privy and executive councils shortly thereafter. When she assumed the throne, few Britons had cars, home phones or indoor plumbing. By the time of her death, British astronauts were working on the International Space Station, the country was a leader in research and development of pharmaceuticals and technology and you could take a train under the English Channel to France. Not sure how His Majesty King Charles III is going to top that.

As author, leadership coach and speaker John C. Maxwell has written, “A great leader’s courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position.” During our exclusive visit to the Mantella Animal Rescue and Adoption Sanctuary in Florida, we were enchanted when we spotted just some the hundreds of animal species that have found refuge there. More importantly, we were able to witness firsthand the love and passion that Sylvia and Robert Mantella, the founders of this idyllic subtropical oasis, shared for their animals and the genuine personal connection they have to each one of them, calling each animal by name, telling us their backstories and how each had come to be rescued.
Then make it selfless.
chimes playing in the gentle breeze added to an ambiance that soothed the soul, and so did the sight of a magnificent orange tree, heavy with ripe fruit — forbidden fruit, unfortunately, since the homeowner had asked us not to pick any.

We invite you to explore our article about the outstanding local restaurants that have been awarded stars by the MICHELIN Guide Toronto & Region 2024 , like Restaurant Pearl Morrissette, which takes great pride in using Canadian ingredients and sourcing them directly from local farmers.

But of course, as soon as the shoot began Esposito decided to taste that the forbidden fruit and elegantly plucked an orange from the tree. It had become very apparent very quickly that we were in the presence of a man whose personality was complex, both soothing and comforting, solidly grounded but capable of breaking the rules.

ll too often these days, people are publicized for the wrong reasons, such as their popularity on social media channels, rather than actions they’ve taken to improve the world. Furthermore, the media’s attention on women in the spotlight is often problematic, focusing more on who wore less than who did their best.
Understand that genuine happiness is timeless.
Find your soul. Believe in yourself. Trust in your God.
Like most homeowners, we take pride of our homes and surround ourselves with fine things. Sometimes, though, it feels just as good to let others enjoy these things in their turn. This was the case with Jim Carrey, the highly acclaimed actor, artist, and writer, who this summer auctioned off some of the pieces from his personally curated collection of 20th-century art and furniture.

Love your family. Share your plenty. Lean when you need. Live out loud.
Infect the world with your faith.

Esposito has a big laugh that you can tell comes deep from his heart — and his is a heart that is full of love for family and friends and still open to curiosity and a desire to learn new things.
Autumn has always held a great place in our hearts — mostly because as young students in Italy, we were mesmerized by a picture we saw of maple trees exploding with colour reflected on a still lake below the bluest sky we had ever seen. Breathtaking! This was what Canada looked like, and we longed to see it for ourselves — a wish that came true a few years later.

AUTUMN LEAVES
you know the meaning of “star”?
There are the Zodiac's 12 constellations of stars, the Hollywood stars, the everyday-life stars … but what is the true meaning of a star? A real star is person who cares and shines their light brightly, spreading their light to illuminate all others around them. Everyone is drawn to them, to their joy and their love.
She had an innate ability to laugh at herself and her station, taking a keen joy in removing the crown and embracing what was popular at the time, whether it was making the Beatles Members of the Order of the British Empire in 1965 or jumping out of a helicopter with James Bond (OK, that was a stunt double) to open the 2012 London Olympics, or sharing tea and a marmalade sandwich with Paddington Bear this past spring to mark her 70th year on the throne. In any case, no matter which version of the Queen you preferred, she will be sadly missed and dearly remembered.
GREATNESS
HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO?
But the unforgettable woman gracing our cover, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, was both a role model and a pop culture icon.

W“I do think I was born under a very bright star”
years of waiting on-set for cover stars to arrive, it was quite rare that they arrived on time — let alone 10 minutes early, as Sistine did!
— Ruth Bader Ginsburg
“It doesn’t take great men to do things, but it is doing things that makes men great.”
THE THIRST OF THE SOUL
— Arnold Glasow
And if this is the true meaning of a star — well, then, in essence, we can all be stars. We all have and joy within us and we all have care and inside us that we can share with others.
TSoon after graduating from Cornell University, Ginsburg married her husband and gave birth to their fi rst child. Societal values in the mid-fi fties demanded that Ginsburg quit her career to become a housewife and a stay-at-home mother, but she and her husband were equal partners in life. The next year, Ginsburg enrolled in Harvard Law School, one of only nine women in her class of 500 men. There was only one women’s restroom on the entire campus, one of the libraries didn’t allow women inside, and the dean himself questioned the female students’ right to be there.
he ever-shortening days that fill the calendar before the year comes to an end often hold the feeling of new beginnings. Whether it’s because we’ve been taken by surprise by how quickly another summer has ended or because of the crisper air and cooler nights, come fall, many of us feel a strong desire to take stock, reflect on our lives and on our actions, and just slow down.
From our first meeting with Sistine Stallone on-set at the Sheats-Goldstein Residence in Los Angeles, it was obvious to us that she was, in a genuine star! Her politeness, grace and consideration for our time was not just appreciated, was both refreshing and surprising. In all our
was in 1982 when we first encountered the giant image of a smiling young man in full Edmonton Oilers hockey gear on a poster hanging on our cousin’s bedroom wall. But as strange as this may sound, the poster didn’t mean anything to us. We were new to Canada and had no idea who he or what hockey was. But we soon learned just how great a hockey player he really was. Once hockey season began, our morning school bus rides were deafening because of all the kids hollering “Gretzky! Number One!” and cheering “Let’s go,
The life story of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is something that we will all cherish for years to come. Her 70-year reign made her Britain’s longestliving monarch. And, given her legacy, one cannot help wondering whether the new King will be as loved and respected by her subjects as she was. One thing the Queen enjoyed was a glass of wine. If you do, too, and your all-time favourite movie list includes The Godfather series, then you might want to try a bottle of the wine produced by its famed director, producer and screenwriter, Francis Ford Coppola. Always an innovator and a leader,
Bravo to mom Jennifer Flavin and dad Sylvester Stallone for instilling in their lovely daughter an attitude of appreciation and respect for others’ time, true to the era of old Hollywood when its stars conveyed an aura of elegance, class and savoir faire.
he 18th century English author Samuel Johnson called curiosity “the thirst of the soul.”
Coppola is revered not only as a movie director but also as the proprietor of the Napa Valley Inglenook winery, known globally for its critically acclaimed Rubicon, Cabernet Sauvignon and many more distinctive blends. Recently, Inglenook expanded with a spectacular 22,000-square-foot winery cave, literally built into a hillside under a vineyard on the estate, a site-specific advantage that means the eco-friendly winery cave maintains its moderate temperature naturally throughout the year and doesn’t need artificial cooling or heating. One of Coppola’s trademarks as a director was his handson approach to every aspect of every production, and that has obviously spilled over into winemaking. Cheers to that!
know that our ability to take joy amid our busiest days is a gift.
Sistine is sure to become a big deal. Her last name is a legacy she takes seriously and from the evidence we have seen and based on her ethic of hard work, innate talent and natural charm, she will continue to rise and shine.
We’d all probably agree that the secret to being a life-long learner is life-long curiosity. Keeping curious about the world around us is the engine that propels us to learn new things. As entrepreneurs, it is important for us to never stop learning — plus it’s what we love to do!
The blatant sexism Ginsburg faced throughout her career became the core of her legal work. A pioneer in gender equality legislation, she rose to prominence in her field, eventually reaching the pinnacle of her profession in 1993, her appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.
That’s a feeling that’s hard to act on when you’re in an industry like ours, with press dates and deadlines looming. Although you’ll often hear us joke about how wonderful it would be to do absolutely nothing — to be bored, for once! — we
ell, in the case of Yolanda Gampp, this could be a real possibility. If you’re not yet familiar with her work, she is a multi-millionaire YouTube baker (3.3 million subscribers, that is) … all thanks to her incredible imagination. is is a woman who dreams up cakes for a living — not traditional tiered shapes and avours, but cakes that look like hot dogs, huge candy apples, watermelons, in avours like the ultimate red velvet and chocolate cake … You get the idea. Sweet mother of God, this lady has the power to tempt even the strongest-willed person with her cakes! Her belief is that anything is possible, and with the love and support of family and friends, the highest levels of success are attainable. Read her story on page 38.
From the minute Giancarlo Esposito arrived on set — and, may we add with gratitude, on time — the Dolce team knew we were in the presence of someone who was used to commanding attention without uttering a word.
For 27 years, she ruled on issues of constitutional law, becoming well-known not only for her fi ght for equality, but also for the eye-catching collars made of beads, lace and even shells that she wore with her robes. These collars came to symbolize the substance of her work or her position, such as the collar she wore on days she dissented.
But it might also be a curse. Let us explain: How do you tell someone that you love what you do, and that you have no desire for a vacation? Or that when you do go on a vacation, you find yourself missing home after the third day?
A few years ago, at a conference in Sydney, Australia, the International Astronomical Union presented their estimated number of stars in the Universe: seventy sextillion that is, a seven followed by 22 zeros. An almost-incomprehensible
In fact, cheers to all leaders who are needed in most aspects of society, whether politics, religion, business or community-based organizations like Global Citizen, which is responding to the critical issues of climate change, poverty and inequality, and is dedicated to achieving an end to extreme poverty. Take David Beame, for instance, an entertainment lawyer who is also Global Citizen’s
Theirs is truly a full-time labour of love. The Mantellas are out on their golf carts among their animals from early morning until evening, checking on them and monitoring their movements and well-being, even in the high winds and torrential rain that are a common occurrence in Florida. But make no mistake — these animals are not pets. As one of Canada’s most philanthropic couples, the Mantellas’ passion for giving is fueled by their realization of how important animal preservation is to human existence and to life on our planet.
Listening to his interview after our photo shoot made me appreciate the immense solidity of this man. We were already fans of his incredible ability to portray nuanced villain characters, but it didn’t prepare us for the remarkably thoughtful person we were so fortunate to meet. In fact, he does not consider the bad guys he portrays to be two-dimensional, either. He explains that the archetype of a villain is a fallen hero who somewhere, somehow, went off track.
natural disasters and extreme weather conditions, one could ask the same question now. In De Lio’s case, where was God when deadly bacteria infected his body, nearly taking his life and resulting in the amputation of both of his legs?
These days, decades later, we can bask in the same glorious sight on our nightly commute home. Perhaps the vibrant swirls of colour will make us a little less joyful in the coming weeks when the leaves aren’t on the trees but cover the ground (more yard work …), but they’ll still be very beautiful.
to beloved rapper The Notorious B.I.G. Designer Frank Chi and writer Aminatou Sow created the famous “Can’t Spell Truth Without Ruth” image that graces posters and stickers. Fans of Ginsburg have tattooed themselves with images of her face, worn her most famous quotes on shirts and pins, and dressed up as her for Halloween. On the popular comedy show Saturday Night Live, Kate McKinnon’s impression of Ginsburg delivered sharp put-downs with the catchphrase, “That’s a Gins-bur.”
Oilers!” Needless to say, 1982 was also the year that Gretzky broke Phil Esposito’s record for most goals in a season, scoring 92 over 80 games. Fast-forward 42 years later and we are sitting in Wayne Gretzky’s living room in West Palm Beach, waiting for him to be styled and interviewed for our magazine, Dolce. We’re both grinning widely and thinking that, indeed, this is truly the land of opportunity, and that if you work hard you can play even harder. The moment was a meaningful one for both of us — who could have fathomed from that first unknowing glimpse
The location of our photo shoot was in Beverly Hills, California, in a mid-century house perched high on a hill above the treetops, overlooking the kind of breathtaking view that can make you feel a bit dizzy. The chorus of dozens of wind
Speaking of belief, we all pray that our faith need never be tested the way Paul De Lio’s is. Many of us go through life without ever having to question why tragedies strike our lives or the lives of others in the world. A few years back, we published an article about the de nition of God. I remember asking the writer to pose this question to various religious leaders: “Where was God in moments such as 9/11?” Given the recent state of
“Justice Ginsburg inspired leagues of men and women to fi ght for equality based on gender, race and basic civil rights,” says Shana Knizhnik, a lawyer who created the blog (and, later, book) “The Notorious RBG,” which compares Ginsburg
What is “home,” anyway? “Home” can be the place where you experience comfort and that welcomes you after a long day or a long absence. “Home” can be that comforting phone call, with the voice on the other end that warms your heart. And “home” can be a community of like-minded friends and neighbours, a welcoming group in
In that article years ago, one of the questioned religious leaders replied that God was in the remen going up the stairs to rescue the people in the towers. It’s a response that to this date gives me comfort. Likewise, now, God is in the rescue workers bringing relief to Puerto Rico, Mexico and Florida. And God was in the doctors who fought to save Paul De Lio. He was with the family and friends who prayed for De Lio’s life and later, for his recovery. Today, just a few months after his ordeal, De Lio is lled with positivity and gratitude. He is ready to help others nd ways to live with motivation. Dare I say, then, God also resides in De Lio’s heart. See his story on page 32.
Being lucky enough to be called Giancarlo Esposito’s friend means becoming enveloped in his positive attitude towards life. It is all about the glass always being half full and about passion and staying curious, being inspired by new things so that he can, in turn, inspire others.
And can we talk about those gorgeous dresses? (Yes, what a dream … as you read the story you, too, will understand why we styled the shoot with such glorious fashion!) If you know Sylvia Mantella at all, you’ll know that she loves fashion and is a huge supporter of Canadian and international fashion designers. Where else but Dolce will you be able to read about how important it is to protect these endangered species in a fashion spread that combines Valentino with a camel named Clover?
The brightening colours of the trees signal a change of season and a quickening of the air, and just like the changes of autumn, many changes are exciting and should be welcomed. One change we’ve recently made here at Dolce is to dedicate our latest cover to some of the stories you’ll find inside, all ready to be discovered and enjoyed. No two people will favour the same story or connect with an issue the same way — so, which one piqued your curiosity the most?
vice-president of global events and experiences. Beame has a framed quote on his office wall from Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” In 2012, Global Citizen hosted its first festival in New York’s Central Park, inviting bands like Foo Fighters and Black Keys, all embracing the mission to help end extreme poverty. Since then, the organization has continued to join talent with purpose, distributing $56 billion to NGOs around the world — heeding Margaret Mead’s call to action. As world citizens, we all need to take urgent action, especially when it comes to global climate change. Perhaps reading our interview with Peter Wohlleben, forester and author, will help shed some light. In The Secret Life of Trees he discusses how to do forestry right and explores the science of how trees communicate — astonishingly, Wohlleben claims that trees can call on birds to get rid of caterpillars feeding on their leaves, among other amazing feats. The book, a New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal bestseller, has now been translated into 47 languages, proof that people all over the world care about nature. We’ll raise a glass to that!
number, and one that’s humbling when we compare it to our own human lives and our own aspirations to be stars. But the truth is we are a miracle just by existing, and we can all bring light to those around us. The stars in the sky are not envious of their neighbouring stars — on the contrary, they just shine with their own point of brightness but, together, illuminate the entire night sky.
So, if it’s inspiration you’re looking for, look no further than the stories in this edition of Dolce. Whether it’s fulfilling your desire to be a better human by becoming more involved in philanthropic work, wanting to become a better leader, recharging your spirit by finding your next travel destination or being inspired by the stories of empowered and empowering women — read on!
Sadly, Ginsburg passed away in September 2020 at the age of 87 due to complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer. Even in death, she made history as the fi rst woman and the fi rst Jewish person to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol Building. She told NPR in a 2019 interview that she had no regrets about her professional life, and her trail-blazing legacy will be remembered by generations to come.
We hope you enjoy this latest edition, not just as a guide to la dolce vita — although, of course, there are plenty of articles here for that — but also as an opportunity to learn about some people whose quest is to live life to the fullest. Make each day your red carpet!
We hope you enjoy our summer edition of Dolce magazine.

Of course, it’s possible you do not agree with my thoughts on the whereabouts of God. We all know that one should not speak casually of politics or religion, for these are sensitive topics (although the weather isn’t exactly a safe topic anymore, either). But perhaps you will be interested in our story about the Bahá’Í Faith, a relatively new religion with 5 to 7 million adherents practising globally. If you believe in the betterment of the world, in unity, love and service, you might nd your place here. Bahá’Í’s believe in equality of all sexes, races and creeds, and in the harmony of science and religion. Story on page 74. In this day and age, we could all use more unity, love and faith, regardless of what form it takes. May you enjoy this edition of City Life Magazine. It, like life, is yours to experience and do with what you will.
And until the next edition, stay curious, stay kind and keep living la dolce vita!

THE MACALLAN: PRESERVING ITS LEGACY WITH TIME : SPACE
Embark on a 200-year journey through time inspired by whisky mastery
WRITTEN BY MARC CASTALDO
The Macallan’s extraordinary legacy of single malt Scotch whisky began in 1824 when its founder, the farmer and teacher Alexander Reid, distilled a small batch of whisky in his stills in Speyside, Scotland. There had been a church on the Macallan Estate until 1400, and it had a close association with an area in Scotland called Maghellan, and this is how the distillery and its products got their name.
In celebration of The Macallan’s 200-year milestone of whisky excellence, the brand is thrilled to introduce the TIME : SPACE Collection, which consists of two unique new whiskies presented in custom vessels produced through a combination of state-of-the-art engineering and ancient craftsmanship. The brand describes making whisky as being similar to time travel since what they’re bottling now was created many years ago.
The TIME : SPACE Collection’s two new
single-malt whiskies are being offered together in an innovative dual-chambered vessel designed to represent a time machine. One — the oldest whisky The Macallan has ever released — is a 1940 vintage whisky, which was aged for 84 years before being bottled in 2024. The second whisky, now five years old, is the company’s first single malt released from its Distillery, which opened in 2018. To commemorate The Macallan’s 200th anniversary, only 200 of these rare and unique items are available.
In addition to its oldest and younger whiskies, The Macallan is offering its TIME : SPACE Mastery, a unique single malt with layers of complexity that embraces 200 years of company history through its use of 14 cask types, which create layers of complexity and an incredible depth of aroma, texture and flavour.
“Through a fusion of art and science, we have ensured the continuity of the character of our
whisky,” says Kirsteen Campbell, a master whiskymaker at The Macallan. “As a Whisky Mastery Team, our roles are unique in the sense that we get to time travel — selecting whisky from the past crafted by our predecessors whilst simultaneously laying down casks for future generations of whisky-makers and consumers. To smell, taste and select whisky created over eight decades ago is an exceptionally rare occasion in the life of a whisky maker and one which I will treasure,” says Campbell.
The Mastery whisky is presented in a meticulously crafted circular container symbolizing the cycle of life and the perpetual journey from the past to the future. The hallmark of The Macallan is its dedication to quality and craftsmanship — a dedication that strengthens year after year.

HOW ROLEX UNLOCKED THE DEEP
The first authorized history of the Oyster Perpetual Submariner watch tells the fascinating story behind one of the world’s most recognizable timepieces
WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER
Nothing catches the eye more than a Rolex watch. As a subtle expression of style, sophistication and lifestyle choice, a Rolex can say so much without saying anything at all.
It is even more eye-catching if that particular watch is the flag-bearer of the Rolex brand, the Oyster Perpetual Submariner, one of the world’s
most famous watches. Now, for the first time in its illustrious 71-year history, Rolex has partnered with global design authority Wallpaper* to publish the first authorized history of the Oyster Perpetual Submariner: The Watch that Unlocked the Deep.
The 252-page hardcover book is written by author and watch expert Nicholas Foulkes, who has written more than three dozen books, many
New original photographs along with Rolex's historical photos illustrate accounts from renowned witnesses to the timepiece’s illustrious 71-year history
on watches, as well as on other subjects. “As a historian with a lifelong obsession with watches, I was delighted and excited to be given unique access to the Rolex archives and flattered and honoured to set down in print the first authorized accounts of timepieces that have helped shaped history,” says Foulkes. “I am very grateful to Rolex for having placed its trust in me to be the one to write its story. It is a fascinating tale to which I have tried to do justice.”
The book is a wide-ranging account of the Submariner, the first diver’s watch guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres, which was a true breakthrough. Foulkes chronicles the remarkable technical innovation that went into creating the watch alongside the adventures of the extraordinary collection of pioneers who tested prototypes. Rolex defied underwater pressure by creating watches that could go even deeper, including the 2022 Oyster Perpetual Deepsea Challenge, which can descend to 11,000 metres.
An iconic watch ever since its launch, the Oyster Perpetual Submariner is instantly recognizable as a symbol of the Rolex commitment to style, craftsmanship and technical achievement, its story now captured in print for the first time. www.rolex.com @rolex

EXEMPLARY TALENT FOR MOTORCAR DESIGN: ROLLSROYCE CELEBRATES 120 YEARS
The prestigious Festival of Speed, set on the breathtaking grounds of the historic Goodwood Estate, is an important highlight of the motorsport calendar year
WRITTEN BY MASSIMO SOSA
Included in this celebration was the epitome of powerhouse vehicle design:Rolls-Royce. The ultra-luxury car maker showcased its unparalleled craftsmanship with the unveiling of four breathtaking creations. Models including the iconic marque’s signature SUV Cullinan that featured a public début in the UK of the Cullinan Series II alongside the Spectre, an all-electric super coupé finished in a vivacious two-tone, as well as a highly bespoke Phantom Extended and a unique expression of its Ghost. These “Contemporary Expressions,” as Rolls-Royce describes them, offer a deep exploration of the brand’s legendary qualities.
Cullinan II builds on the legacy of the world’s most coveted luxury SUV by incorporating a key theme of “verticality” inspired by the illuminated skyscrapers of the megacities where the Cullinan is seen to best advantage. This iteration is distinguished by its redesigned lamps and striking exterior finish of Emperador Truffle, a minimalist hue inspired by brown marble. The interior takes sophistication for a ride with its luxurious palette of Cashmere Grey and Chartreuse leather, elevated with an intricate pattern of “placed perforation” another illustration of Rolls-Royce’s commitment to tailored craftsmanship. A notable addition to the Cullinan Series II is the integration of the marque’s iconic Spirit of Ecstasy figurine displayed within the cabin of the vehicle for the first time, encased in a unique, illuminated clock cabinet on the dashboard.
Moving from fossil fuel to environmental consciousness is the all-electric Rolls-Royce Spectre, captivating attendees at Laundry Green. Making its dynamic début at Goodwood a year ago, the super coupé marks the dawn of a new sustainable era for Rolls-Royce; Spectre defines blending signature luxury with cuttingedge technology. Made specially for the Festival of Speed, Spectre was presented by Rolls-Royce in a stunning two-tone Peony Pearl and Black Diamond finish, exhibiting yet again the modern opulence that is to be expected of the marque. A genre-defining car like this needs no frills to boast its presence and prowess, yet Spectre is still fitted with 23-inch wheels under its frame. On the interior, Spectre features a celestial night sky illuminated by the Starlight headliner and accompanying Starlight doors that are adorned by nearly 5,000 “stars” adding to the luxurious ambiance of the cabin.
To commemorate the 120th anniversary of the
first meeting between the Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls and Henry Royce, each of the one-of-a-kind Phantom, Ghost and Spectre vehicles created for the event offers a gentle nod to this significant year. Situated on the centre console is a painted sound wave design that can be deciphered as inspirational quotes from the founding men. Their collective vision underscores the very ethos of Rolls-Royce today.
Phantom plays a legendary role as an icon that defines the parameters of luxury, a perfectly crafted masterpiece that transcends what is possible for motorcars Phantom Extended offers tastemakers a spacious cabin matched with serene furnishings of their choosing. Behind a seamless glass gallery you can display a treasured artwork to admire while you recharge before taking on the world. This unique car is finished in
a striking two-tone Diba Teal and Black Diamond coat, with a Black coachline inspired by the French Riviera, as if glamour could be any more evocative than that.
As its name implies, the Ghost is a study in reduction, minimalism and simplification. The purity it provides allows an owner to truly create on the blank canvas of an ultra-luxury car. Bespoke commissions thrive in this class of vehicle and customers can be as ambitious with their creativity and personal tastes as they wish. The Ghost offers virtually no technical or esthetic constraints. Curated in a Blue Crystal over Black finish, the Honorary edition of Ghost marks the occasion by providing a masterclass of timeless elegance and sophistication.

MYLES BULLOCK: DEDICATED TO THE CRAFT
Hollywood’s rising star embraces a new challenge while savouring the surreal moments encountered along the journey to stardom
WRITTEN BY BONNIE POP | INTERVIEW BY MARC CASTALDO
Myles Bullock is rapidly emerging as one of Hollywood’s most compelling talents. Known for his breakout roles in BMF on Starz and the Hulu reboot of White Men Can’t Jump, Bullock is now stepping into the limelight with a major shift in character for his role in Peacock’s true-crime limited series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist . In this starstudded show he shares the screen with some screen heavyweights including Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. The series, based on the HeartPodcast of the same name, tells the riveting story of an armed robbery during Muhammad Ali’s legendary 1970 comeback fight.
Bullock, who grew up in South Central Los Angeles, was marked in his early years by a unique blend of city grit and the affluence of Beverly Hills 11 miles to the northwest, where his mother drove him to attend private school. This early exposure to two vastly different worlds shaped Bullock’s adaptability and drive, key traits that would serve him well in his acting career. “It made me feel comfortable in any environment, like I can talk to any human being,” he reflects in a recent interview with Dolce Magazine
Bullock discovered acting early on, thanks to a cinephile grandmother and a family that loved attending plays and live theatre. He didn’t, however, discover his own love for the craft until he was about 20 years old and attending college. After a rough start in academics, an unexpected opportunity arose when a professor invited him to join a play for class credit. His performance in The Soldier’s Play would ignite a passion that transformed into a career path. “I didn’t know I would love acting until I was in it,” Bullock recalls. “From there was just like,‘Well, I seem to be pretty good at it. Let me see how good I can get.’” And he did, starting with earning a master’s degree in acting
from the University of North Carolina, where he was awarded a full-ride scholarship.
The discipline and dedication learned through theatre training served him well in his transition to television and film. In Fight Night , Bullock embraces a high-stakes role opposite legends he’s long admired. One of the most surreal moments for him was during the first table read,
the role: “I revel in opportunities to play characters like that.”
I WANT TO BE A NAME ON THE MARQUEE THAT PEOPLE WANT TO SEE ‘‘ ‘‘
Bullock has learned a great deal from working with Hollywood’s finest. He speaks highly of Don Cheadle, whose meticulous preparation left a lasting impression on the young actor. “He’s so prepared, he doesn’t even look at the script on set,” Bullock says, adding that seeing how seasoned actors approach their craft has elevated his own dedication. “It really makes me want to rise to the occasion.” Despite his rising star, Bullock remains grounded, crediting his community and family for his success. A committed father to a now-two-year-old son, Bullock says that fatherhood has given him a new perspective. “I feel better when I put the needs of someone else in front of mine,” he says, adding that his son brings him a peace he didn’t know he needed. This love for family extends to his passion for giving back to his community in Los Angeles. Bullock actively supports local causes, participating in toy drives, clothing donations and other initiatives to provide school supplies for children in need.
where the Zoom screen was filled with the faces of industry icons. “I’m about to share space, share scenes, share work with these people,” Bullock recalls. “You just don’t get that type of experience right away. So, man, what a privilege, what an honour.”
He was lucky in other ways to have his idols around at this moment. Bullock’s role in Fight Night represents a significant departure from his previous work. He plays Willie Black, a “lovable menace” in a world of criminals. “He’s electric, kind of a live wire,” Bullock says, excited about taking on such a dynamic character. His enthusiasm is evident in how he speaks about
While Fight Night is currently slated as a limited series, Bullock hopes to maximize the moment and leverage this project to further his career. His long-term goal is clear: to become one of the greats. Patek Philippe’s distinguished World Time Watch was first launched as a limited edition at the Patek Philippe grand exhibition “Watch Art” held in Tokyo in June 2023. Those attending its grand unveiling were floored by its elegant artistry and functional craftsmanship
A MASTER OF TIME ZONES
Philippe’s New World Time Watch Makes Its Wearer a Master of Time Zones
Patek Philippe has once again redefined the boundaries of horological craftsmanship by introducing its New World Time with Date Reference 5330G-001 watch. Unveiled at the 2024 Watches and Wonders Geneva Salon, this latest addition to the company’s storied collection is not just a watch; it’s an indispensable tool for the global traveller, allowing jet-setters to master their schedules across different time zones with unparalleled ease.
With its origins dating to the 1930s, the Patek Philippe World Time collection emerged during the dawn of transatlantic flights, when precise timekeeping across various time zones was necessary. The brainchild of master watchmaker Louis Cottier, the World Time function enabled simultaneous and perpetual readability of time in 24 zones. This ingenious system, involving two mobile disks and a local-time display by central hands, became a hallmark of Patek Philippe’s ingenuity.
Fast-forward to 2024 and Patek Philippe continues to push the envelope with its latest model of the World Time with Date Reference 5330G-001 timepiece. This watch is distinguished by a world-first feature: a date display synchronized with local time, a feat accomplished through a newly developed calibre 240 HU C movement. The movement includes
an innovative differential system that allows the date to adjust automatically when crossing time zones or at midnight. This mechanism eliminates the need for manual corrections, enhancing the watch’s practicality for nomads who hop between continents for work and play. The watch also makes an ideal companion for business leaders who manage teams across multiple countries, making it easier to schedule on-the-go meetings and coordinate with international colleagues.
The device’s white gold case surrounds a blue-grey opaline dial with a central carbon motif. The dial is not just an indicator of time but speaks to Patek Philippe’s meticulous and consistent attention to detail. The dial design features a hammer-shaped date hand rendered in red lacquer on transparent glass to maintain the legibility of other elements. The 24-hour disk is segmented into day and night zones, each marked by a gilt sun or moon symbol, enhancing on-the-go readability — perfect for surreptitious glances in the middle of important meetings or staying on schedule amid jam-packed calendars.
The watch’s aesthetic is accentuated by faceted dauphine-style hands and baton-style hour markers, both crafted from white gold with a luminescent coating. The fully polished case, measuring 40 mm in diameter, is complemented by curved two-tier fluted lugs and a sapphirecrystal back that reveals the intricate workings
of the new calibre 240 HU C movement.
The Reference 5330 watch is engineered to make time management seamless for the modern globetrotter. With a single push-piece travellers can adjust the city disk, the 24-hour disk and the centre hour hand in one-hour steps without affecting the minute and second hands. This functionality ensures that users can swiftly adapt to new time zones without the hassle of multiple adjustments, keeping them on schedule no matter where their journey takes them.
Patek Philippe’s history is replete with innovations that have set benchmarks in the world of watchmakers. The introduction of the Reference 5330 watch marks another significant milestone. This watch is not merely a timepiece but a confluence of history, technology and artistry. It embodies the spirit of precision, where form and function coalesce to create something built to last from one generation to the next.
For the jet-setter, the World Time with Date Reference 5330G-001 watch is more than an accessory — it’s a reliable tool to ensure that wearers remain on top of their schedule. With such a masterpiece on their wrists, Patek Philippe owners can confidently navigate the complexities of global travel on time and always in style.

SPRINGSUMMER 2025 Fendi Womenswear
Celebrating a century of Fendi fashion, innovation, and legacy
WRITTEN BY MARC CASTALDO
The year 1925 marks the founding of the iconic Italian brand — 100 years of celebrating its global impact on the foundations of fashion.
Fendi’s Womenswear Spring-Summer 2025 collection looks both forward and back to Fendi’s history, extolling practicality and celebration, the archetypal and the iconoclastic. More importantly, it is a collection that has been specifically crafted for women who do rather than merely exist — a testament to the house’s founder, Adele Fendi.
What many do not know is that the fashion house quickly became women-owned. By 1947, Adele’s five daughters led the brand, each owning a 20% stake and being recognized for implementing modernism in dress, design, decoration, and thought, as well as for expanding into accessories.
Bringing together the ready-to-wear and couture worlds Fendi, the hand- and machine-made, evening
What started as a wholesome boutique in the heart of Rome operated by Adele and Edoardo Fendi, specializing in bags and furs exclusively, a series of collections and collaborations followed, propelling the fashion house to international prominence and on the catwalks of the most prestigious fashion shows
and daywear, Fendi proudly showcases supremely detailed and expertly crafted embroideries, all delicately placed on archetypal forms such as tees and simple slips in silk and organza. The finest suedes and shearlings effortlessly and elegantly adorn the wearer. Finally, there are the silk tea dresses and swirling dancer’s slips that never seem to go out of style.
“Quality is the number one point besides the beauty of design,” says Silvia Venturini Fendi, Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear and Adele’s granddaughter. “I am always thinking about the connection between fashion and time — I think quality is the defining feature. It is the timeless testament to what has been achieved in our hundredyear history. As the founder of Fendi it was also my grandmother Adele’s obsession, both personally and professionally: quality.”

ROAD DIARY
The documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band made its debut at TIFF, captivating the audience with a powerful retrospective on the journey he and his band have charted since the ’70s
WRITTEN BY MARC CASTALDO
Toronto’s most glamorous and highly anticipated annual event, the Toronto International Film Festival, which this year ran from September 5 to September 15, 2024, showcases the biggest names in cinema and screens their work. This year, TIFF graciously granted Dolce VIP status, so I was able to enjoy the 49th edition of the event in all its glory.
The cameras’ shutters and flickering flashes capture all the beautiful moments of the festival. Of course, Torontonians’ jaws drop when they see Jennifer Lopez, Matt Damon, Selena Gomez or Jacob Elordi. But the question is, who is the one to make the stars themselves star-struck?
The answer is simple: Bruce “The Boss” Springsteen.
In 1984 Springsteen had all of America dancing their hearts out in the dark right alongside Courteney Cox (who appeared in the song’s now-classic video) and would go on to become one of the world’s most beloved and accomplished rock-and-roll singers,
songwriters and guitarists. In a career spanning over 60 years he has garnered 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award and a Special Tony Award. With 21 released studio albums, he has sold more than 70 million albums, most of which feature his backup band, the E Street Band, and sets attendance records all over the world at his concerts.
In Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the award-winning director, editor and producer Thom Zimny chronicles the passion, energy and grit that the band has always brought to touring as they prepare to hit the road once again. Zimny, a frequent collaborator with Springsteen over the years, captured the hearts of the audience members by showing Springsteen’s method creating a set list of songs that conveys a story for the audience to experience, rehearsing meticulously, feeling the momentum of the music on stage and embracing the flow.
As I sat in Roy Thomson Hall with The Boss himself sitting only 15 feet away from me, I
experienced the audience at times roaring with laughter, emphatically applauding and silently admiring the heartfelt and candid interviews. The interviewees included Springsteen’s bandmates and longtime friends Steve Van Zandt, Jake Clemons (nephew of the late saxophonist Clarence Clemons), Max Weinberg and Patti Scialfa, Springsteen’s wife.
While the overall theme of the documentary was the raw musical talent of Springsteen and his bandmates, the underlying theme of inevitable mortality was also beautifully captured. During the panel discussion after the screening, Springsteen spoke about the importance of pursuing your passion and doing what you love. He expressed gratitude for being able to commit himself to his love of music and for being able to pursue it with his closest friends throughout his entire life.
Bruce Springsteen is still — without a doubt — The Boss.

Canadian Teams aim for historic victory with Concord Pacific Racing as one of the first all-women’s teams to compete in America’s Cup history
The inaugural Puig Women’s America’s Cup and the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup in Barcelona this year was a sight to behold as racers from around the world faced off for a victory that would inscribe their names in the history books.
But this event also signified a ground-breaking partnership of Team Canada with several prominent sponsors — Concord Green Energy (Concord Pacific), RBC, TELUS, Dilawri — all of which have a firm emphasis on a commitment to advancing gender equity and cultivating young talent on the international stage.
Under the banner of Concord Pacific Racing, the Canadian teams were aiming not only for victory but also to make history as part of the first-ever women’s teams competing in the 173-year history of the America’s Cup. The anticipation had continued to build as the full rosters for the Women’s and Youth teams were unveiled on May 15. Tam Matthews, chair of the Team Canada America’s Cup board, remarked on the significance of this event: “This is a historic moment for Canada, sailing and, especially, for women and youth. We are proud to be creating a legacy that will inspire future generations.”
President and CEO of Concord Pacific Terry Hui highlighted the synergy in supporting these teams, particularly in advancing opportunities for women in a traditionally male-dominated sport. “Participating in the America’s Cup will inspire the next generation of sailors in Canada and help open the sport to a broader audience,” Hui said.
Team Canada’s ambitions were clear: to do whatever it took to win both the inaugural Women’s America’s Cup and Youth America’s Cup regattas in Barcelona 2024, with the hope of inspiring increased participation, excellence and national pride across the country.
Veteran sailor Isabella Bertold led the charge, bringing her 15 years of competitive experience, including two World Cup medals, to her role as Team Captain. The teams consisted of two separate

The beauty of art is that it can be expressed through endless forms and materials, be it painted canvas, sprayed walls in an urban environment or sculptures fashioned from paper, plastic or metal into all shapes and sizes. One of the most intricate and creative forms of artistry is glass art. Glassblowing dates back to Egypt as early as the 1st century BC.
One of the leading and most respected contemporary glass art galleries in the world has been Toronto’s Sandra Ainsley Gallery, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this autumn with a Special Exhibition running from September 21 to November 15. The gallery has been at the forefront of the contemporary glass movement for decades, representing internationally renowned artists in the medium while offering an exceptional selection of artworks that push the boundaries of art and design. It is a reflection of the passion that owner Sandra Ainsley has for the medium and the artists from around the world who create the exceptional works she features.
“I don’t know where my business life begins and where my personal life ends. It just all comes together,” says Ainsley, in a recent interview with Dolce Magazine. “Business is all about relationships, and I represent more than 60 artists. And with each of them it’s important that I have a good relationship. It’s not only
MY MANTRA IS TO JUST BE HONEST WITH EVERYBODY. BEING HONEST WITH MY COLLECTORS AND BEING GENUINE IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME, AS WELL AS APPRECIATING AND BELIEVING IN MY ARTISTS ‘‘ ‘‘
important but it is something I enjoy as it gives me satisfaction with what I do. So I know every artist very well. I know their families, and we talk often. So I feel I’m very lucky to have a kind of business where I get that type of pleasure, and it all comes together as one. My mantra is to just be honest with everybody. Being honest with my collectors and being genuine is so important to me, as well as appreciating and believing in my artists.”
Artists participating in the 40th anniversary exhibition include some of the most celebrated figures in contemporary glass art, including Dale Chihuly, Lino Tagliapietra, Dante Marioni, Toots Zynsky and Dan Dailey. These artists along with many others have created beautiful pieces that challenge the boundaries of glass art and design, making this exhibit a must-see event.
Dolce Magazine, a long-time supporter of arts and culture in Canada, is sponsoring the Special Exhibition as a tribute to Ainsley and her enormous contributions to the art world. “Sandra’s tireless dedication to promoting global artists has made a profound impact, and I am honoured to be able to support her work as a publisher and artist,” says Michelle Zerillo-Sosa, co-founder and publisher of Dolce Magazine. “Her legacy is a testament to the power of art to unite and inspire us.”
“I am thrilled to team up with Dolce for this Special Exhibition as I have enjoyed reading their magazine for many years,” says Ainsley. “They
are the leading luxury lifestyle magazine in the country, and it is an honour to partner with them.”
Unlike a canvas painted by a solitary artist, glass art is distinctive in that it takes a team to form these beautiful creations. “Artists who work in glass work in teams, so it is different than a lot of other art forms, such as painting, which can be a rather solitary profession,” explains Ainsley. “For a glass artist to create a piece, they could need anywhere from three to 12 people to make just one piece. So, the one thing glass artists have is that most of them have really great people skills. If you are the person designing the piece you have to have all those people on your side, on your team, working for you, so it’s great to work with people like that.”
Sandra Ainsley’s contribution and her impact on the world of contemporary glass art cannot be overstated. For four decades she has provided the leading glass artists from around the world an elegant home to showcase their creations.
“It’s really hard for me to believe that I opened my first location 40 years ago,” says Ainsley. “I think I contributed — or I think the gallery contributed — by giving artists a way and a venue to show their work and to show it in an elegant way, and in a way that features them individually and not as a whole group. What I tried to do with
this gallery is to have enough space to display the artists’ work. So when you come in you can see one artist, then move on to another artist. You can feel the separation and see the contrasts and the different techniques. That’s important to me. I’d rather have less work in the gallery but be able to show every artist at their best.”
The anniversary exhibition took place at the renowned Sandra Ainsley Gallery at 100 Sunrise Ave., Unit 150, its location a hidden gem tucked away among warehouses in the east end of Toronto. Unassuming on the outside, the gallery inside is a beautiful explosion of creativity, art and design.
More than 20 artists came to Toronto for the exhibition, and visitors were able to meet them and discuss their works. “A big part of my job is to educate my clients and introduce them to this wonderful world of contemporary glass art,” says Ainsley. “The anniversary will be very emotional for me, but the biggest thing is to be able to share all of these artists with my clients because I know what terrific people these artists are and how important they truly are. When I look back and look at what I’ve done, I’ve just done what I love.”

THE EVERYWHERE MAN Julian Lennon :
Musician, photographer, filmmaker, philanthropist and author Julian Lennon has forged his own path in the creative world while preserving the legacy of his late father, John Lennon
WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER | INTERVIEW BY MARC CASTALDO
Asa creator in any art medium, it’s tough enough to make your way in the world and achieve success in your chosen discipline without having to overcome forces beyond your control. Imagine, then, achieving that success when your father just happened to be one of the most famous artists of the 20th century.
Julian Lennon is the son of John Lennon. As a young child growing up in that bubble, he was also surrounded by his “Uncle Ringo,” “Uncle Paul” and “Uncle George” — together they were the four most famous humans on the planet during the 1960s. Julian Lennon’s life story of emerging from that unimaginable spotlight to achieve his own worldwide fame in many different disciplines is one of determination, perseverance and dogged independence.
Now 61 and busier than ever, Lennon is a creative force in the world of the arts. He is a singer-songwriter and musician, photographer, documentary filmmaker, philanthropist, author of children’s books and a producer of an animated television series in which he brings his enchanting children’s tales to life. His guiding principle in balancing these many initiatives is to be true to himself.
“I am fully independent now, and with the majority of the things that I do, I try to follow my instincts in letting the work be organic,” says Lennon in a recent interview with Dolce Magazine. “In photography, I do landscapes and guerilla-style streetscapes and hope it’s good when I get back to the studio. They say as an artist you never really finish a painting or a song. I think that’s 99.9 per
Julian remembers being extremely shy growing up, even though he and his family were constantly in the media spotlight. As a child starting at a new school in Liverpool, he found it intimidating when the headmaster introduced him as “the son of John Lennon from the Beatles.” Whether making true friends as a schoolboy or pursuing business opportunities as an adult, the Lennon name has always been a double-edged sword for him
WITH THE WORD ‘RESPECT ’ ALSO COMES LOVE. RESPECT AND LOVE ARE TWO OF THE FOUNDATIONS OF HAPPINESS ‘‘
‘‘
Venice (August 28 to November 24th, 2024). To complement these exhibits, Lennon is planning to publish a coffee-table book filled with photographs from his extensive international travels for his philanthropic work on behalf of his White Feather Foundation, founded in 2007 to address environment and humanitarian issues.
As he has stated in earlier interviews for his foundation, the rather poignant name comes from a conversation he once had with his father. “Dad once said to me that should he pass away, if there was some way of letting me know he was going to be OK — that we were all going to be OK — the message would come to me in the form of a white feather. So the white feather has always represented peace to me,” he recalled.
His travels for his foundation have taken him to exotic places to meet with extraordinary people, and he always immerses himself in the local cultures and customs. These experiences have allowed Lennon to offer some rather pointed advice for foreign travellers.
“The easiest thing I can say is to shut up and listen,” says Lennon. “Just be respectful of the
situation and position you are in. You are not in your own back garden, so respect where you are going, respect the people or tribes that you’re seeing, and listen to them and respect nature as well. Don’t bring your opinions on how they should live — observe their lives and listen to their lives, that’s how we all learn. You don’t have to agree with everything, but respect them — and with the word ‘respect’ also comes love. Respect and love are two of the foundations of happiness. Absorb and understand other cultures from around the world. It’s about them, it’s about the situation I’m finding myself in. Just take it all in. At the end of the day, what we all want is peace in our lives.”
Julian Lennon has been, and still is, an inspiration for any creative artist making their own way in the world, while emerging from perhaps the biggest artistic shadow that ever existed. Musician, photographer, filmmaker, author and philanthropist, he is a special everyman poised on the unbridled horizons of creativity with a bright, vibrant and engaging future ahead.

LOVE OF ITALIAN PASTA
Marking
its 100th anniversary in 2024, Rustichella d’Abruzzo has always celebrated the traditions of Italian culture and family by making the finest pasta on the market
WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER
The basic ingredients for making authentic Italian pasta are quite simple — durum wheat semolina is the core, a coarsely ground wheat flour. But there are several secret and intangible ingredients that will never find themselves for sale on a shelf: family, tradition, quality, integrity and perhaps, most importantly, love. These are the very essence of Italian pasta.
Rustichella d’Abruzzo Italian pasta brand has embraced, respected and cultivated these secret ingredients for 100 years, capturing the hearts of chefs and food enthusiasts worldwide.
Established in 1924 in the heart of the Abruzzo region, the pastificio (pasta factory) is now led by the brother-sister team of Gianluigi and Maria Stefania Peduzzi, who honour their grandfather’s legacy by upholding longstanding traditions of artisanal pasta production.
Rustichella d’Abruzzo pasta is lovingly crafted in small batches using top-quality durum wheat semolina blended with pure Apennine mountain spring water and extruded through bronze dies,
the perforated metal sheets that cut and shape the pasta, to produce a rustic texture that holds any sauce beautifully, then slowly dried at very low temperatures, a process that further enhances its distinctive flavour and lets it cook perfectly al dente every time.
It is this care, commitment, passion and love that Rustichella d’Abruzzo has been bringing to pasta-making for a century, which the owners say is a testament to their history and the legacy of their family’s traditions. “One hundred years of history means a bit of travelling back into the past, going back to our roots, to the family stories,” says coowner Maria Stefania Peduzzi in a recent interview with Dolce Magazine conducted in Italian with Dolce publisher and editor-in-chief Michelle ZerilloSosa. “Though we never got the chance to know our grandparents, the stories we learned about them tell a very familial story because on Sundays, since it was a large family, everyone would gather at home for Sunday lunch. To make this lunch pleasant, an aunt of my grandmother’s prepared
pasta with a pasta machine, kneading the eggs and semolina. So, obviously times have changed, but we try to maintain traditions of a unique lunch with the whole family all gathering together. It carries those memories forward for you as well as the flavours, and those sensations stay with you. I call it an inheritance — a great and beautiful inheritance — and that has always guided us.”
It is impossible to pinpoint exactly where the strength and togetherness of Italian families comes from — but it most certainly is a deep-seated feeling within almost every Italian family. Perhaps it can be traced back to the volatile tribalism of ancient Rome, or to the horrors of enduring two world wars, or perhaps even to the close-knit cohesion they needed to allow them to not only survive but thrive after immigrating post-turn of the 20th century to the new world in North America, where few of them spoke the language — whatever the source, that strength and togetherness is real.
The warm feeling, taste and quality of fine Italian pasta are all reflected across the extensive
Rustichella d’Abruzzo product offerings. Today, it offers Italy’s most extensive artisanal pasta line — from traditional shapes like spaghetti, bucatini and penne to regional specialties including trofie, fregola sarda, strozzapreti and many more. Its products also include sauces, grains and other specialty items. The Peduzzi family continues to marry traditional craftsmanship with pioneering innovation and cutting-edge technology in order to share the distinctive Abruzzese pasta with the world and, in its own small way, make family gatherings even warmer and happier.
Peduzzi says, “Rustichella, in my opinion, is a way of life. While it’s true day-to-day life has us always on the run, I think cooking a plate of pasta means spending 10 minutes of quality time. But it’s also a way to invite, in our daily routine, to sit down with others in front of a plate of pasta. You can smile, encourage, confront, complain or anything else. But, most importantly, you are gathering around a table together with a good plate of pasta, which means you are relating to each other. Perhaps even today that ability is diminishing, but I am a person who thinks that even when setting the table,
WHILE IT’S TRUE DAYTO-DAY LIFE HAS US ALWAYS ON THE RUN, I THINK COOKING A PLATE OF PASTA MEANS SPENDING 10 MINUTES OF QUALITY TIME
A plate of pasta represents more than just a delightful meal; it symbolizes the significance of eating well, especially with cherished company
setting the plates — today that’s not done so often anymore, but it’s a way to create the rituals which encourage conversations.”
While honouring Italian traditions, the Peduzzi family has always ensured that Rustichella d’Abruzzo has also embraced innovation to meet the demands of modern living.
“Rustichella is true to traditions, but we have also continued to implement a series of innovative products, such as a pasta which cooks in just 90 seconds,” says Peduzzi. “We even have a pasta with the addition of fruit, which is a way of responding to a market, which honours the truth and tradition of pasta but also responds to market needs such as pasta with superfoods. In the case of our 90-second pasta, it’s a product that meets today’s needs, and who doesn’t want a good plate of pasta while spending less time to prepare it?”
While Abruzzo in Italy may be less well-known compared to regions such as Tuscany, Lombardy and Lazio, over time Peduzzi discovered it to be a region rich in characters and in artists, and she often found herself reading ancient texts to learn more about it. She discovered one of the important

Celebrating 100 years of a successful family business is not just a remarkable achievement; it’s a rare and precious milestone that they cherish deeply
the king during the Bourbon Kingdom invested in agronomists and scientists to write, tell and list the characteristics of the grain,” she explains.
While craftsmanship and the manufacturing process has made Rustichella d’Abruzzo one of the finest pastas in the world, the foundation of the company is its deep family legacy, which has driven the growth of the brand. Maria’s brother spoke about that legacy in a recent speech marking the company’s 100th anniversary.
“First and foremost, we want to remember those who made this milestone possible but are not with us today,” said Gianluigi Peduzzi. “The vision was very far-reaching, but if we remember every moment, it is our forefathers who had the courage to embark on this adventure during a very difficult period of Italian history devastated by two world wars. Our forefathers had the foresight to understand that the interest in high-quality artisanal pasta was growing in both national and international markets.”
“Family, unity my mother, Stefania and Giancarlo have always been with me on the front line as we embraced the idea from the beginning, knowing it wouldn’t be easy but confident we would achieve results,” continued Gianluigi in paying tribute to his family. “We chose pasta from my maternal grandparents because it was and is the most consumed food in Italy, and being appreciated
abroad allowed us to travel and discover new worlds. Today, Piero, Carolina and Stefano, who joined the company in 2020, are bound by a family bond to prepare and manage the future. They will need to continue to grow and communicate the values that have always distinguished us: distinction, seriousness, integrity, fairness and humility.”
Italian pasta tops many people’s lists as their favourite comfort food. For a century, through care, innovation, a commitment to quality and an extensive knowledge of the history of the Abruzzo region, along with those intangible ingredients of love, passion, tradition and family, Rustichella d’Abruzzo has been making Italian pasta taste even more delicious the very essence of Italia.

The recently opened King Animal Hospital north of Toronto takes an innovative new approach to the finest in animal welfare
WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER | INTERVIEW BY MARC CASTALDO
Many people do good things, but one true test of character is that good people will dig even further to do more. Good people such as Rob Scheinberg and Danielle Eden-Scheinberg, the dynamic husband-and-wife team behind the world-renowned Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary, have taken their commitment to animal welfare to the next level with the recent opening of their King Animal Hospital, set on 50 acres amid the rolling farmlands of King Township, just north of Toronto.
This cutting-edge 60,000-square-foot fourstorey hospital will revolutionize animal care by bringing together specialists and advanced technologies to offer a comprehensive range of
services for both small-animal and equine (horse) patients. The facility boasts seven operating rooms, 12 exam rooms, a state-of-the-art laboratory and pharmacy and specialized areas including a separate cat ward and a Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) sterilization room.
“We’ve created a space where diverse experts can work together efficiently and effectively to find solutions quickly,” said Scheinberg at the official ribbon-cutting in August 2024. “Our goal is to provide a calm environment for both patients and their owners, accommodating all creatures great and small.”
King Animal Hospital is an innovative and new approach to animal welfare, where a personalized approach to care is married to the latest technology
to offer a multidisciplinary referral and emergency facility. Features include an indoor arena for equine assessments, outdoor paddocks for horses and green spaces for dogs, a heated outdoor ramp for horses and trailers, water therapy facilities for both horses and dogs, an auditorium for knowledge exchange and continuing education, and a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber, the only one in Ontario for veterinary care. It also includes advanced diagnostic imaging equipment including two MRI machines, one recumbent CT scan for small animals, one standing CT scan for larger animals, nuclear scintigraphy, C-Arm fluoroscopy and digital X-rays.
But beyond the impressive technology, according to Eden-Scheinberg, it has always been
the incredible level of passion, commitment to care and dedication of the facility’s employees, now more than 180, that has made the difference at King Animal Hospital since it opened its doors in January 2024.
“It’s important to understand it is the people who work here who are at the heart of this hospital,” says Eden-Scheinberg in a recent interview with Dolce Magazine. “It’s not just coming to work 9 to 5 — they all have compassion for the animals. They came to this profession because they care. These are unique individuals who do amazing things truly very hard things. There are a lot of laughs and joys, but there are also some very sad stories in this profession. But they all pull together to save another life and then another life, and it’s not easy. I’m sure lots go home and cry, but it is an amazing group of people that we have. I always say they don’t work for us, they work with us, because we’re all in this together. That’s very important to understand.”
King Animal Hospital is just the latest example of Scheinberg and Eden-Scheinberg’s extraordinary commitment to animal welfare in Ontario since they opened their Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary in 2014. In its first decade, Dog Tales has rescued
and rehabilitated approximately 3,000 dogs, and they all went to loving homes. These rescued dogs had often been neglected or abused, a fact that is not lost on Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who attended the August opening ceremony.
“Congratulations to everyone at King Animal Hospital on the opening of this state-of-the-art facility,” said Premier Ford. “Veterinary medicine is so important to keeping pets and other animals healthy and safe, as well as supporting public health more broadly, which is why our government is proud to be investing in veterinary training to improve access to animal care across Ontario.”
The grand opening of King Animal Hospital marks a significant milestone in animal health care, offering a revolutionary approach to veterinary medicine, which combines technology, expertise and compassion in a calming and welcoming purpose-built environment to ensure that all animals receive the utmost respect and diligent care during their stay.
But the animal-loving husband-and-wife team of Scheinberg and Eden-Scheinberg are not stopping there they continue to evolve and push boundaries. As the hospital moves to achieve its final vision as a campus of care, more services
will continue to be added, with ambitious plans for the future.
“We want to build a whole-care facility here on the property,” Scheinberg told Dolce. “We want to expand our oncology as we are seeing a lot more cancer in animals, unfortunately. So we want to build a separate building for oncology, and we want to add an Emergency Room for equines and that’s in the planning process as well. We want to be the most unique facility in Canada in terms of care, for research, for study, for employment, for animal dietary advancements and, of course, for the care of the animals and their owners. So everything — the whole package — you will be able to find here on the property.”
Good people doing good things. By bringing together the best specialists with the most advanced technology to ensure every animal patient, whether large or small, has access to the most comprehensive care, Rob Scheinberg and Danielle Eden-Scheinberg and the experts at King Animal Hospital are making a difference as catalysts for knowledge exchange in the veterinary field.

FEMME: EXPERIENCE A FRESH APPROACH TO HEALTH CARE
Dr. Donna Gasparro and Candice Raic have reimagined the experience of women’s health care through integrative holistic medical care in Toronto
Femme Women’s Wellness, Medical & Cosmetics Clinic, located at Avenue Road and Lawrence Avenue in Toronto, has distinguished itself as a haven for optimizing health and empowerment in a space that exudes a sense of calm. Created for women and operated by an all-female team, Femme is an integrative health care clinic that creates a plan that is uniquely curated for the health care journey of each patient.
With three divisions — Medical, Wellness and Cosmetic — a patient’s health care journey is fully
optimized, with practitioners in all three divisions collaborating to enhance each patient’s experience and well-being. Among Femme’s many defining features, the clinic’s fully integrated health care membership holds a special place in the hearts of so many women in the community. The medical team provides a comfortable and open environment for the patients to discuss concerns, while also working with the other practitioners in the office to help chart the best course for each patient’s health care journey, whether it involves the Naturopathic Doctor, Physiotherapist, Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist,
Chiropractor, Psychotherapist or Massage Therapist. Regardless of the nature of the appointment or treatment, the medical team of Nurse Practitioners and Physicians are committed to providing exceptional health care.
“Whether patients come here for physiotherapy, chiropractic care, naturopathic medicine or psychotherapy, everything is coordinated, and that’s not done anywhere else,” says Raic. “We aim to improve our patients’ quality of life holistically.”
Femme members also gain access to exclusive perks including monthly promotions, exclusive events, educational series on female-specific topics, support groups for female-specific issues and so much more. While the number of Femme memberships continues to grow, membership is not required to access services. Women irrespective of membership status are welcome to make appointments to utilize the services from any of the three divisions.
“It’s nice to, say, typically within a few weeks — even if you’re not a member — you can come in, have a medical procedure, like an IUD inserted or removed, rather than wait six months or more to get into an OB/GYN,” says Dr. Gasparro.
Many have sought out Femme for its Cosmetic Division because of its conservative yet elegant results and its commitment to providing only evidence-based cosmetic treatments. “For us, the best work is undetectable. Whether it’s a patient’s first-time getting laser hair removal, Botox, fillers, skin tightening or bio-stimulatory treatments, we are sensitive to delivering results that leave you looking and feeling refreshed. We want every patient to feel great throughout the entire process,” says Dr. Gasparro.
The sister duo, Medical Director Dr. Donna Gasparro and CEO Candice Raic, dreamt of creating an integrated health care practice that welcomes women to conveniently access their medical, wellness and cosmetics teams under one roof. They wanted women to experience feeling understood and genuinely cared for by skilled and compassionate female experts. “It really has been a dream come true to bring this unique concept to life. We are so honoured to be able to provide exceptional integrative care to the women of Toronto,” says Raic.
“Femme is more than just a health care clinic. It’s been a way for so many women to meet others going through similar experiences and is a way of supporting each other. It’s been so nice to see our patients build relationships with one another and our staff,” Dr. Gasparro says enthusiastically. It is this kind of community-building for women in the context of health care that further strengthens the sisters’ purpose from the very beginning.
As Femme moves forward, it is well-positioned to continue serving the women of Toronto and is excited to continue providing convenient, holistic medical care while bringing the community of women together.

ART MEETS ALTRUISM
Moët & Chandon contributed an iconic 9L champagne bottle for TIFF 2024 celebrities to sign its sale will support TIFF’s Every Story fund so that every story gets told
WRITTEN BY ISHA SHARMA
Weall know that the annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) celebrates the best films from different parts of the world. However, another important but not so well-known aspect of the festival is the coming together of art and altruism.
Films hold the power to transform and transcend, but not all stories see the light of the day. In 2021 TIFF launched the Every Story fund to provide unrepresented communities and filmmakers a platform to present their work because good stories can be found anywhere, no matter the ethnicity or location of the people telling them.
The fund aims to promote diversity, disrupt the status quo and provide opportunities for creators seeking equity. Since 2021, the fund has given money to initiatives that have increased the representation of Black, Indigenous, people of colour, 2SLGBTQ+ and female artists in TIFF film programming.
The fund also aims to highlight diverse perspectives in programming and curation by expanding possibilities and providing free tickets to screenings and programming through partnerships with various communities and other outlets.
Other programs that offer filmmakers the support they need to record their stories and reach their target audiences include alumni programming and professional and talent development initiatives.
At TIFF 2024 Moët & Chandon donated a 9-litre bottle of the most popular champagne in the world — worth on its own more than $2,500 — for A-list
TIFF’S EVERY STORY FUND CHALLENGES THE STATUS QUO, CELEBRATES DIVERSITY AND CREATES OPPORTUNITIES FOR EQUITYSEEKING CREATORS

Song, Ben Foster, Chloë Sevigny, Orlando Bloom and Gia Coppola joined in, signing their names on the bottle.
Since then, many esteemed celebrities who graced the TIFF carpet this year have also signed the champagne bottle, including Jacob Elordi, Jennifer Coolidge, Amy Adams, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Henry Golding and Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Later this year, the bottle will be put up for auction, with the proceeds of the sale going to TIFF’s Every Story fund. The fund has already been able to provide support to 220 up-and-coming filmmakers from equity-deserving backgrounds. With the immense support generated in 2024, its goal, to provide a space for unrepresented voices and diverse narratives, seems even more achievable.
The donations collected for the Every Story fund will support a new space for filmmakers and films that have the potential to touch the hearts of us all.

Willem Dafoe,
THE MAN WITH A THOUSAND FACES
Willem Dafoe, nearing 70, continues his prolific career with the upcoming Nosferatu, showcasing his versatility in film while balancing numerous projects and his life in Rome, Italy
WRITTEN
BY
CEZAR GREIF | INTERVIEW
BY
SAMANTHA REYES
Just shy of turning 70, Willem Dafoe is adding to his superb film career with his new movie, Nosferatu, a reimagining of the classic Dracula story, set to be released this fall. This new project seems to be just one of many he has in the pipeline — too many to even list in this article. Just last year, the versatile American actor played in Poor Things by Yorgos Lanthimos and in Saverio Costanzo’s new Italian film Finalmente l’Alba (Finally Dawn)
Willem Dafoe, born on July 22, 1955, in Appleton, Wisconsin, is one of the most versatile actors of his generation, capable of playing superhero villains as well as tortured artists in art-house movies. He has more than 100 film credits to his name. Since 2005, he has been married to Italian director Giada Colagrande. He lives in Rome and speaks Italian quite well.
The son of a surgeon and a nurse who worked together, Dafoe was raised in the Midwest mainly by his five sisters, as his parents were always busy. He studied drama at the University in Milwaukee before moving to New York City in 1976. He soon founded a theatre company called the Wooster Group with some friends. He continued to perform with the group after his film career had taken off, well into the 2000s.
Dafoe played small parts in a variety of movies in the early ’80s as well as more important roles in indie films, and started getting noticed by film critics.
His first major success was his part in the Oliver Stone movie Platoon, released in 1986, a role that earned Dafoe his first Oscar nomination. Even though it was
shot outdoors, making the movie was far from a walk in the park. “We got thrown into the jungle. We didn’t know what was going to happen,” he remembers. “We heard something vague about two weeks’ training. The people who brought us there left, and then we started digging holes and were trained very seriously for two weeks by exsoldiers, cut off from the outside world. It rooted the movie. You couldn’t do this nowadays.”
Dafoe is known for playing villains or quirky characters, but he’s also famous for being one of the few actors who have played Jesus on screen,
as he did in 1988 in The Last Temptation of Christ, directed by Martin Scorsese. “Playing Jesus demanded a lot of me,” he says. “It was clear that the emphasis would be on finding the human aspect of Jesus. The first thing I had to do was forget I was playing Jesus. We shot in Morocco, no trailers. It was shot very fast. I wasn’t prepared for any controversy because I thought it was a beautiful film!”
Playing Norman Osborne/the Green Goblin in the first Spider-Man movie, released in 2002, made Willem Dafoe a household name and marks the
start of the second part of his career. The movie unleashed a new genre — the superhero movie — and was a box-office smash. It was also well received by critics. “I loved playing the double role,” says Dafoe. “The more interesting role was probably the father, Norman Osborne, though. It would switch from comedy to drama in a line.” He also really enjoyed the physical aspect of the role. “To be on a wire, to fly around was challenging and athletic, but also so much fun,” he says, smiling.
“At the beginning of my career, people were like, ‘This guy plays bad guys.’ Playing bad guys is

were doing it. Some of the stuff was invented on the spot.” Dafoe went on to appear in seven Wes Anderson movies.
fun, but I was worried about typecasting. I’m not worried anymore. As I got older, the parts I play are a mix of different things.”
In 2004’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Dafoe’s first project with Wes Anderson, he plays a German oceanographer assisting the main character, played by Bill Murray. Dafoe thrives in an environment where a lot of freedom is given to actors to add to the text. “We spent all day working on these very complex shots, but what you see is not all on the page,” says Dafoe. “As precise as Wes Anderson is, it developed as we
In 2018’s At Eternity’s Gate, Dafoe portrayed Vincent van Gogh in the final months of his life, which were also his most productive. The Dutch master was creating close to one painting per day at the end of his life. It’s fitting for an actor like Dafoe, who has been working consistently for nearly half a century. “I’d been helping with the script a bit, just as a friend,” remembers Dafoe. “One day, I got called at Julian’s house [director Julian Schnabel], and he put this red beard on me, and then we did it. In the end, you have to forget the research, forget who you’re playing, and try to find the human aspect.” Dafoe called it “the role of a lifetime” and was nominated for a Golden Globe. Most of the paintings in the movie were painted by Schnabel, who is also a painter, but a few were painted by Dafoe himself. The movie had a profound effect on him. “It changed how I see things in life,” he said, at the time.
In 2023, Willem Dafoe starred in the Italian movie Finally Dawn, written and directed by Costanzo (Who also directed My Brilliant Friend). It is set over about 24 hours in Rome in 1953, primarily at Cinecittà. “I’ve known Alba for a long time,” explains Dafoe. “She’s close friends with my wife, Giada, and I became acquainted with
Saverio’s work when I was on the jury at the Berlin Film Festival in 2007 and saw his In memoria di me, which left a strong impression on me. Later, I watched The Solitude of Prime Numbers and some episodes of his series In Treatment and My Brilliant Friend. He’s someone to reckon with, very competent and creative.”
Finally Dawn is about Cinecittà, the studio emblematic of Italy’s “golden era” of cinema. It was often used in Italian movies, but American epics like Cleopatra were also shot there. Willem felt connected to the place. “I’ve worked at Cinecittà often, and when you arrive, you’re surrounded by prop sets, costumes, scenery and memorabilia from past cinema,” he says. “Cinecittà is a functioning studio but also a historical museum. When I started spending more time in Italy, my wife, Giada, introduced me more deeply to Italian cinema from the past and the life of that period. I also talked a lot about it with Marcello Mastroianni, who told me many stories and helped me imagine the social and artistic life of cinema at that time, including its dark side — the drugs, manipulations, decadence.”
Dafoe has worked with a number of great directors, from Martin Scorsese to Oliver Stone, from Wes Anderson to David Lynch. He thinks people have some misconceptions about what it takes to be a good filmmaker. “People imagine that a good director talks to the actors a lot and
"I KEEP WORKING! IF I WERE TO STOP, SOMEONE ELSE WOULD WRITE MY BOOK. I'LL NEVER ALLOW THAT!”
tells them what to do,” he explains. “But in my experience, a good director creates a world where there’s a logic to what you’re doing. The best experiences happen when you’re given a good setup.”
Dafoe’s exciting career hasn’t slowed down in recent years. He played mad scientist Godwin Baxter in the 2023 movie Poor Things. The movie went on to be a worldwide box-office success. “I’m very happy with its success,” says Dafoe. “I find it fantastic that the audience is responding with such enthusiasm to such a bizarre story set in the past. The makeup was more time-consuming than anything else. Initially, it took four hours to apply the makeup and two to remove it. But this is also helpful because you’re sitting in that chair and can’t fall asleep. So, you look at yourself in the mirror, and sometimes you have to cooperate with
the makeup artist as they apply elements around your eyes and mouth. While you look at yourself something emerges. It’s the perfect preparation, and when it emerges, you’re someone else, ready for your scene.” In the movie, Dafoe plays a poignant, suffering character. “That’s the beauty of this film,” he says. “You understand that he had a very painful life, and the way he dealt with the pain was to dedicate himself to something, turning the pain into something positive. He’s a very compassionate person, and I think that’s one of the reasons he bonds so much with Bella. He hopes there’s a better future for her, too, transforming that pain into something more pleasant. I was very aware of this while shooting the film.”
At the time of this interview, Dafoe was on set in Wales. “Bad weather here, and the food is not
as good as in Italy, unfortunately,” he laughs. “It’s for a film called A Man in My Basement, based on a noir novel by Walter Mosley. And I have several films about to be released, including the reimagining of Nosferatu, the first vampire in cinema history. And then I shot another film with Yorgos Lanthimos, again with Emma Stone, right after Poor Things. It was an apt reunion with people I love.”
So, does Willem Dafoe spend any time reflecting on his own career and life? “Probably,” he laughs. “If only for the inevitability of aging. And the different relationships with different women and the things you do as the years pass, and your vanity is turned upside down. You’ve been famous. You’ve been successful. And now? I keep working! If I were to stop, someone else would write my book. I’ll never allow that!”
CORUM's Golden Bridge 'Serpent':
THE LEGACY OF SPIRIT AND INNOVATION
The latest Golden Bridge ‘Serpent’ is the best exemplar of Corum’s sophistication and unmatched brilliance in watchmaking
WRITTEN BY ISHA SHARMA
Popular Swiss brand Corum, known for its watchmaking expertise, recently launched its latest Golden Bridge “Serpent.” This unique piece accentuates the charm of the Golden Bridge model that speaks volumes of Corum’s excellence in art and design.
Started in 1955, Corum has continued to be a true testament to daring strategies and groundbreaking initiatives. It pushes the boundaries of haute horlogerie with its unique collections.
As a continuation of this philosophy, the latest Golden Bridge “Serpent” stands as a fascinating timepiece of immense elegance. With sapphire crystals on almost every side, the 5N rose gold tonneau-shaped case of this watch provides an amazing view of the Golden Bridge CO 113 movement.
With more than 190 parts, this 4 Hz manual movement provides a 40-hour power reserve — an impressive achievement for a barrel like this. Harry Rosen
THE LEADING LUXURY LEGACY
Legendary men’s clothing company Harry Rosen announces a $50 million expansion investment
WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER
The Harry Rosen story is one of the truly great Canadian success stories. Seventy years ago, Rosen borrowed $500 and opened a 500-square-foot men’s clothing store in Toronto’s Cabbagetown neighbourhood.
Today, Harry Rosen is Canada’s leading luxury men’s clothier, with 15 stores across Canada as well as five outlet stores. This year, the company announced that over the next five years it will invest in itself and update its retail fleet, including the relocation of its Toronto flagship store to a new 38,000-square-foot retail destination in the heart of the Yorkville district.
It’s pretty amazing to think about what you can do with $500.
The new three-storey flagship store will be located on Yorkville’s tony Cumberland Street overlooking the Village of Yorkville Park and will feature a vast park-facing patio, a luxurious client lounge, espresso bar and valet parking on weekends. The new flagship location is slated to open by spring 2026 and be located less than 200 metres from the current iconic Bloor Street store. It will feature updated design and customer-centric experiences that reflect the vision of the Harry Rosen brand while remaining true to its 70-year legacy.
“Since my father opened the Bloor Street doors in 1970, and our current flagship in 1987, Harry Rosen has developed such a deep connection to the Yorkville neighbourhood,” says Larry Rosen, chairman and CEO of Harry Rosen Inc. and Harry’s eldest son. “We are very excited to continue pushing our legacy forward by positioning our most important, innovative and immersive flagship at the centre of the Canadian luxury and fashion space.”
Harry Rosen did not invent attentive customer service, but he most certainly perfected it. As millions of men have discovered in the last 70 years, when you walk into a Harry Rosen store, you’re not having to look around for somebody to help you. And if you have no fashion sense whatsoever
and are only there to answer the directive “Honey, you need some new clothes,” the Rosen staff have always been the helpful guide in answering the often-confusing question of “Does this combination work?” It was always Harry’s vision to help men discover their personal style through personalized service, a mandate which his son, grandsons and their team intend to push forward.
Harry Rosen Inc. had announced that it will also invest $50 million over the next five years to update and transform its Canada-wide retail fleet to meet the expectations of today’s luxury customer and deliver new experiences with every visit. A renovation of the 13,000-square-foot store in Edmonton is planned along with the opening of a 16,000-square-foot location in Vancouver’s Oakridge Park development. The company’s grand plan is that five years from now, all Harry Rosen stores will be fully refreshed, with each store offering an engaging and immersive environment. The brand has developed a strategic partnership with dkstudio architects inc., a renowned Canadian-based design firm that has been engaged to help reimagine the Harry Rosen store design and experience.
“Retail is theatre, and the store is our stage,” says Ian Rosen, the brand’s president, COO and a member of the third generation at the helm of the family-run business. “Our new store concepts are a direct response to what we have heard from our clients and from studying the world’s leading customer experiences. Both are central to how we plan to deliver excellence moving forward.”
Both Harry Rosen stores and its robust digital offerings through www.harryrosen.com offer extensive collections from the world’s finest labels and must-have designers, like Brunello Cucinelli, ZEGNA, TOM FORD, Giorgio Armani, Moncler and its very own label, HAROLD.
It’s a far cry from February 4, 1954, when Harry, after dropping out of high school, used that
borrowed $500 to open his first clothing store with his brother, Lou. Rosen first was exposed to men’s fashion when he found a job at a men’s haberdashery shop, where he learned about the composition of clothing and, more importantly, about men’s shopping habits.
Throughout his career, Rosen was often recognized as “the retailer’s retailer.” He was a master of his craft and, in 1987, was named Retail Marketer of the Year by the Retail Council of Canada. In 2001, he was awarded the Retail Council of Canada’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also the recipient of an Honourary Doctorate in Commerce from Toronto’s Metropolitan (then Ryerson) University in 2003 and 2004, and was named to the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour. In 2005, he was a proud recipient of the Pitti Immagine Uomo Award from the Italian fashion community.
Rosen’s philanthropic work along with that of his wife of 60 years, Evelyn, is legendary. He was active in the Canadian Paraplegic Association, Corporate Fund for Breast Cancer and the Cancer Care Fund, and sat on the Boards of Governors at Western University, Ryerson University and George Brown College, as well as Mount Sinai Hospital. He also served a three-year term as campaign chair for the Canadian Cancer Society of Metropolitan Toronto. In April 2010, he was honoured at a fundraising event for the University Health Network called “Hats Off to Harry.”
Harry and Evelyn Rosen had four children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. This expansion of Harry Rosen Inc. continues his legacy and is yet another investment made in his city and his country. The Rosen story is not just a successful business story, it is a successful family story — just as Harry Rosen would have wanted it.

FROM FORTRESS TO LEGACY
Located in Montenegro's Boka Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Adriatic Sea, Mamula Island is a carefully restored 19th-century fort
A Journey Through Time on Mamula Island, Montenegro
WRITTEN BY KATE BRYNN
Meet centuries of beauty. Perched at the gateway to Montenegro’s beguiling Bay of Kotor, Mamula Island is a captivating paradox — a once-formidable fortress now reborn as a sanctuary of sublime opulence.
Built in the mid-19th century, the imposing Mamula Fortress, named after distinguished Austro-Hungarian General Lazar Mamula, stood as an unwavering sentinel. Its austere stone bastions, crafted to guard against maritime threats, now exude an air of timeless grandeur over the bay.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mamula Island has been transformed into a luxury destination while preserving the cultural and historical significance, as recognized by UNESCO’s prestigious designation, which underscores the island’s role in safeguarding and celebrating its rich heritage.
Today, Mamula Island has undergone a metamorphosis, artfully reborn from its storied past into a cutting-edge retreat. As you approach you see the fortress’ majestic silhouette emerge from the cerulean waters, merging echoes of bygone eras with the allure of contemporary indulgence.
Stepping onto this island sanctuary with its 32 meticulously designed suites, you are immediately enveloped by a sense of enchantment. Each suite offers panoramic vistas that seem to stretch to infinity.
Here, the endless azure of the Adriatic Sea meets the boundless sky, creating a serene enclave where each dawn feels like a private celestial performance.
Days on Mamula Island are a celebration of indulgence, where your most pressing dilemma might be choosing between a refreshing dip in one of three sleek modern pools or a leisurely stroll along the pristine secluded beach.
Dining at Mamula Island is a gastronomic adventure. With three avant-garde restaurants and four chic bars, every meal is a sensorial celebration. Imagine savouring exquisite fare and artisanal cocktails against a backdrop of captivating panoramic views. Each culinary experience is a meticulously crafted symphony of flavours.
Yet Mamula Island is more than a luxury retreat. It is a vibrant canvas for artistic and cultural exploration. Engage with an eclectic array of local art and immerse yourself in hands-on workshops that spark creativity. From mesmerizing galas to interactive culinary experiences, each event is designed to enchant and inspire.
For those seeking ultimate relaxation, the island’s spa is a sanctuary of serenity. Fusing traditional treatments with avant-garde therapies, it offers an oasis where you can rejuvenate in a Finnish sauna or herbal steam bath, then drift into tranquillity in the serene aqua-flotation zone. The spa’s design is a seamless extension of the island’s natural splendour, ensuring a deeply restorative experience.
The allure of Mamula extends far beyond its shores. You can set out on private speedboat excursions to uncover the charms of Boka Bay, explore the picturesque town of Perast with its iconic islets or wander the labyrinthine streets of Kotor.
Montenegrin gastronomy, uncover the secrets of olive oil production or indulge in the culinary treasures of the Luštica peninsula. Adventurers can travel to Tara River and tackle the exhilarating rapids there or head to the south and enjoy the tranquil beauty of Lake Skadar, a paradise for birdwatchers. Discover the awe-inspiring Lovćen National Park or visit the majestic Mausoleum of Njegoš, where history and nature intertwine in a breathtaking tableau.
Mamula Island transcends the typical notion of a destination; it serves as a dramatic stage for life’s most unforgettable moments. Whether you’re orchestrating an intimate wedding, hosting a high-profile corporate event or celebrating a special occasion, the island provides a magnificent canvas for any affair. Every detail is meticulously crafted, ensuring your event is as extraordinary as the island itself.
Whether you bask in sun-drenched luxury, delve into local culture or simply savour every exquisite moment, Mamula Island transforms dreams into unparalleled experiences. It is a realm where history, grandeur and creativity converge seamlessly, making each day on this magical island an epic expedition.

Hexagon could get by on looks alone, but the flavourful dishes that emerge from the kitchen of this stylish Oakville restaurant are also original, refined and contemporary
GOURMANDSMichelin Guides
CUISINE
Given Toronto’s status as the most ethnically diverse large metropolitan area in North America, it is probably not surprising that the city is also known for its excellent and wide-ranging restaurants, bringing those authentic international cooking experiences and taste sensations to foodies from around the world.
Because of this stellar international reputation among gourmands, it was somewhat surprising that the venerable Michelin Guide did not add Toronto to its list of major world cities until 2022, but they have moved fast in making up for lost time.
In September, Michelin announced the restaurant selection for its Toronto & Region 2024 selection territory in year three to include some of the world-class restaurants located just outside the city in densely populated Southern Ontario.
DaNico, Hexagon, Restaurant Pearl Morissette and The Pine were each awarded one Michelin Star, with Restaurant Pearl Morissette also being the newest Green Star restaurant in the selection, recognized as a pioneer in sustainable gastronomy. The Toronto & Region guide now includes 15 oneMichelin-starred restaurants, two Green-Michelinstarred restaurants and one two-Michelin-starred restaurant, with Yorkville’s Sushi Masaki Saito
still holding that distinction.
In addition to the four new Michelin-starred restaurants, the 2024 Guide also boasts four new Bib Gourmands, eateries with great food at a great value. Berkeley North, Conejo Negro, Guru Lakshmi and Rasa are recognized as Bib Gourmands. The full MICHELIN Guide for Toronto
& Region, including Green-starred restaurants and Michelin-recommended eateries, now totals 100 restaurants, with 30 different cuisine types represented, a testament to Toronto’s delicious diversity.
Located inside an old bank building on College Street in the heart of Little Italy, DaNico features
TORONTO AND ITS SURROUNDING REGION ARE HOME TO THOUSANDS OF TALENTED YOUNG CHEFS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
plush seating and a sophisticated setting, but the irreverent artwork proves it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Chef/Partner Daniele Corona cooks Italian food with a global influence, and diners can choose from a multicourse prix-fixe or a chef’s tasting menu.
In downtown Oakville, west of Toronto, the stylish Hexagon restaurant serves contemporary
cuisine in a cool and casual setting that includes a wrap-around terrace. Chef Rafael Covarrubias’s menu features familiar items such as beef tartare, oysters and fish, but pasta is a highlight, and guests can book a tasting menu in advance.
Another dining destination, Restaurant Pearl Morrissette, with its winery, orchard, farm and bakery, is set on 42 acres in the
picturesque Niagara Region. Chefs Daniel Hadida and Eric Robertson make the most of these lovely surroundings to enhance their spontaneous tasting menu proudly sourcing ingredients directly from local farmers and other Canadian suppliers and according to the seasons.
North of Toronto in Simcoe County is the charming village of Creemore, home to The Pine,
which is housed in a now-chic space that was formerly a gas station. The Pine, which features contemporary Chinese and Canadian cuisine, is managed by Chef Jeremy Austin and his wife, Cassie, and offers a distinct dining experience that draws drawing on the chef’s years of working in China to ensure consistent and authentic flavours.
“As we toast to year three of the MICHELIN Guide in Toronto, we are excited to see the selection expand beyond the city centre, with new and emerging talent being spotlighted,” says Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guides.
“We are very pleased to welcome four new eateries into the family of Michelin-starred restaurants and hope this serves as encouragement for the restaurant community to continue raising the bar. The chefs’ and culinary teams’ passion is evident
with a strong focus on indigenous ingredients and sustainable gastronomy.”
As evidence of the scale and scope of the strength of the restaurant scene in Toronto and surrounding regions, two new 2024 recommended restaurants include Langdon Hall Country House & Spa located in Cambridge, Ont., about one hour west of Toronto, and Lucie Restaurant at 100 Yonge St., in the heart of downtown Toronto’s financial core.
The 2024 Michelin Guide also includes a number of hotels selected as the most distinctive and exciting places to stay in Toronto. Each hotel was chosen for its extraordinary style, service and personality. Featured this year are 1 Hotel Toronto, the Hazelton, the SoHo, Ace Hotel and the Drake, along with the Ritz-Carlton.
The first Michelin guide was published in France at the turn of the 20th century to encourage the use of cars for leisure travel as well as tire sales by giving practical advice to motorists. In the ensuing years, the Guide began to specialize on in restaurant and hotel recommendations. Michelin’s current inspectors still use the same criteria and manner of selection that were used by the inspectors all those years ago.
Toronto and its surrounding region are home to thousands of talented young chefs from around the world. If the MICHELIN Guide 2024 can serve as an inspiration to bring more creativity and imagination to their menus, then we will all be winners in the end.

At the Vintage Conservatory, wine enthusiasts can enjoy their collections in a private, refined and welcoming setting, perfect for entertaining and networking
Stepping into a private members’ club is always intriguing because you never know what to expect. Whether you’re a guest or a newly enrolled member, one thing is certain: You want to be impressed and have a great experience. You’re craving the “wow” factor to make that longlasting impression and to feel that you are part of something special. Since 2010, the Vintage Conservatory has been doing just that — an exclusive, intimate setting where wine, friends and business all flourish in the most unique ways.
Founder and President of the VC Constantine Patiniotis recalls that the inspiration for this creation came from a past coworker in the finance services who would entertain his guests and clients with wine from his collection.
“A bottle of wine is the mortar,” says Patiniotis. “So, the inspiration was to create a culture that invites a community for like-minded individuals to be able to meet other similar-minded people and discuss ideas, business or personal.”
Between the VC’s two locations (Yorkville and King), there are approximately 1,200 members, and that number continues to grow organically mainly by word of mouth. It is a true testament to the brand’s identity and the value of exclusivity it represents.
“Your pace lightens, and the stress diminishes when you walk into the club,” says Patiniotis.
In life, some of the best gems are hidden. This is also true for VC Yorkville, as its concealed entrance ensures that members always experience a special feeling upon arrival. Scanning your fingerprint using a biometric security system, a beautiful wood door opens to reveal a space of sensuous design and quiet luxury. Instantly, they are welcomed with smiling faces, meaningful conversations and flowing bottles of wine directly
from the 6,000-square-foot cellar.
“The first reaction people often have when the door opens is an unexpected, delightful surprise,” says partner John Caliendo. “Our intent was to create exclusivity without stiffness – a culture which is both discrete and convivial. Friendships are made, business is quietly discussed, and of course, wine is often shared. Some of our members have remarkable cellars but others are still discovering and building their collections which is half the fun. We offer unique tasting events and paired dinners with wines from some of the world’s finest and most interesting vineyards. Members and guests are engaged, and they appreciate the fact that the staff have gotten to know them not just by their name but their preferences — the little things that make it a personalized experience.”
An important part of the club’s culture is introducing its members to a network of winemakers, collectors and agencies that can expand their interests and collections and help them save time. The club hosts weekly tastings and offerings with winemakers and wine agents from around the world at no additional cost to members and their guests. On other occasions, the club will organize an exceptional pairing
OUR INTENT WAS TO CREATE EXCLUSIVITY WITHOUT STIFFNESS – A CULTURE WHICH IS BOTH DISCRETE AND CONVIVIAL. FRIENDSHIPS ARE MADE, BUSINESS IS QUIETLY DISCUSSED, AND OF COURSE, WINE IS OFTEN SHARED
dinner to be prepared so each dish is perfectly accompanied by the given wine.
“We instruct our kitchen to only source the very best ingredients and create a high-value experience for our members — not a high-price experience,” says Caliendo.
Previous events have hosted notable figures, like famous jazz guitarist Al Di Meola, who performed an intimate musical set for the dinner guests in support of the Toronto Jazz Festival. In honour of his cultural roots, an authentic Neapolitan dinner paired with exceptional wines from Campagna was served.
Such events allow members to fully explore their passion for wine and food and perhaps enjoy
a varietal for the first time.
“It shouldn’t be forgotten we have also hosted some remarkable Scotch, Tequila, and Cognac events. In fact, our recent Leyenda de Mexico tequila paired dinner was a knock-out as was our Scotch dinner with 20 – 40-year-old whiskies from the House of Grant”, noted Costa.
In addition to the 6500 square foot lounge and dining rooms, a private elevator takes a member to the fully acclimatized cellar where they have access to their personal wine collection. The $350-per-month average membership fee — not including initiation — includes a wine log and a secure wine storage locker with a capacity of 50 to 400+ bottles.
The club does not charge corkage or dining spending minimums, so the value is immediately apparent.
From food to travel, the club will provide an elevated experience for its members by working with other clubs and top hotels – the RitzCarlton, various 67 Pall Mall locations, The Park Hyatt Hotel & Spa and the Hazelton Hotel Toronto – and extend benefits and upgraded accommodations to its members.
We all understand the irreplaceable feeling of belonging, which cannot be forced or manufactured. Whatever you call it — be it camaraderie, loyalty or community — the Vintage Conservatory’s culture and reputation are so wellestablished and known that this bespoke club’s discerning members will almost always know who is coming through that front door.
Nothing is more personal than sharing and enjoying a bottle of wine from your personal collection ... Welcome to the Vintage Conservatory.

CADILLAC’S LUXURY SOLLEI CONCEPT
The legendary brand’s new luxury electric convertible explores the possibilities of custom-commissioned vehicle design
WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER
Cadillac has always held a storied, almost mythical, place in automotive history, and the brand’s panache and prestige have always been part of the culture. Even as a child you knew to be impressed when you found out that a classmate’s dad drove a Cadillac, and maybe you’ve seen the Seinfeld episode where Jerry buys a Cadillac complete with trademark twin tailfins for his parents to drive around their Florida retirement community.
That prestige has been amplified with Cadillac’s recent unveiling of its SOLLEI concept vehicle, the ultimate design expression of a coach-built electric convertible and distinguished by the classic craftmanship that has always been at the heart of Cadillac design and luxury. The ideas of
sun (“SOL”) and leisure (“LEI”) are combined in the SOLLEI edition to represent Cadillac’s inspiration for sunny, leisurely lifestyles in this bespoke expression of luxury and performance.
“SOLLEI reimagines the discovery of travel, envisioning a personalized and concierge driving experience that intimately connects with the world around us,” said Erin Crossley, design director for Cadillac’s Halo vehicle, CELESTIQ. “By exploring clients’ design aspirations, SOLLEI cultivates high luxury through limitless, artfully designed expressions, elevating experiences beyond travel.”
SOLLEI’s sophisticated exterior and clean body style embody Cadillac’s unmistakable bold proportions and emotions, trademarks across
its lines of vehicles. The low, elongated body is accentuated by a wide stance and long coupe door, facilitating easy access to the spacious rear cabin for comfort and relaxation. The windshield frame, crafted from milled brushed aluminum unique to the SOLLEI concept, showcases the detailed craftmanship that can be expected in a Cadillac.
The streamlined look is further enhanced by the push door, designed with minimalism in mind, which eliminates conventional door handles and enhances the vehicle’s refined and intentional look. Uninterrupted surfaces and a stretched A-line emphasize the vehicle’s length, while the low tail design creates dynamic yet elegant proportions that have been associated
with Cadillac throughout its long history.
Celebrating Cadillac’s bold colour heritage, the exterior of SOLLEI is finished in Manila Cream, a colour formulation a tribute to the brand’s history and originally used on Cadillacs in 1957 and 1958. This ode to the past and revived colouring required meticulous hand-painting by Cadillac craftspeople.
The artistic interior of the SOLLEI reflects its expressive personality while channelling Cadillac’s art of travel design philosophy, featuring a fully integrated beverage chiller with power glass door, crystal glasses, an open-air interior cabin and a retractable roof to further blend leisure and travel seamlessly.
As is usual with Cadillac, every detail seems
Cadillac is committed to leading the way in its use of renewable automotive resources: charging mats, door map pockets and custom accessories are crafted from a material that uses the renewable root structure of mushrooms and other bio-based ingredients by MycoWorks, all enhanced with an iridescent finish
to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. The interior décor, wrapped in unstained wood veneers, honours natural colour and grain-pattern variations, while exquisite surfaces feature open pore finishes whose wood grain is meant to be felt when you touch them, enveloping both driver and passengers in quality and luxury. In fact, Cadillac craftmanship is evident throughout the vehicle’s elegant interior, with each piece hand-cut and hand-laid using marquetry techniques that create beautiful and luxurious focal points for the eye to gaze upon, from the front doors to the console to the rear compartment.
After sundown is when SOLLEI really shines. Like Cadillac’s Halo vehicle, the all-electric CELESTIQ, SOLLEI offers distinctive interior
lighting for true customization. With four separate zones and 126 colour options in each zone, the lighting can evoke specific moods and the owner is able to personalize it to vary the interior ambience.
Continuing Cadillac’s tradition of bespoke excellence, the SOLLEI concept reinforces its vision of modern design, customized according to each client’s desires. Currently, clients can design their own CELESTIQ vehicle with Cadillac designers and concierge teams. This ability to custom-design your own Cadillac combines driver freedom, luxury and leisure like never before.

KIMMBERLY CAPONE INTERIOR DESIGN: THE ART OF TRANSFORMING SPACES
Discover how Kimmberly Capone masterfully blends creativity and functionality to elevate every room, transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences that reflect your style and lifestyle
Ina world where design often feels impersonal, Kimmberly Capone stands out not just for her artistic vision but for her deep-rooted family history in the industry, a family that has always prided itself on its commitment to a personal and hands-on approach.
The journey began over 40 years ago when her parents opened a chain of gift and furniture stores. Capone, originally pursuing a business education, soon found her passion for design through her
family’s transition from retail to custom furnishings.
“We had so many clients asking us if we wanted to do design work for them,” she recalls, highlighting the organic evolution of her business. “It just wasn’t something that we were doing at the time. One thing led to another and we started taking on design projects, and now we have our own factory and we produce, maufacture and design all our own upholstery.”
Today, Kimmberly Capone Interior Design thrives as a full-service design firm, proudly showcasing
its custom upholstery crafted in-house with a design style of “quiet luxury,” emphasizing elegance and sophistication in every detail.
With an acute understanding that the industry was lacking comprehensive design services, Capone was determined to make such services her defining feature.
“Our business is focused on where most designers stop they stop at the furnishings because they either don’t have the resources or the clients get exhausted with the selection process. So, that’s
where we take over,” she explains, emphasizing her commitment to a seamless experience that goes beyond what looks good to whether it suits your lifestyle.
Because her team incorporates 3-D renderings into their design process, clients can visualize their spaces in real time, selecting from furniture pieces they can physically experience in the showroom. This immersive process not only lets her clients accurately visualize the pieces as they’ll be in their homes, it also allows for immediate adjustments, making it easier for them to see their dream space come to life.
“Seeing it in 3-D is a game changer,” Capone says. “Most people are visual; they need to walk through their space as it will be.”
In a marketplace overwhelmed with quick-fix solutions, Capone prioritizes quality.
“We only use commercial-grade fabrics that will last,” she notes, rejecting the disposable nature of cheaper alternatives. This ensures that her clients invest in pieces that not only enhance their homes but will also stand the test of time.
What truly sets Kimmberly Capone Interior Design apart is the company’s personalized service. From 3-D presentations to an accessory program that includes the final touches of lamps, art, mirrors, and pillows, her team ensures every detail is curated. As part of the accessory program, they bring the aforementioned items to the client’s home, set them up accordingly, and reveal the completed room. The client can then purchase the accessories they like on-site. Clients experience a simple step-by-step shop-at-home service that many other designers do not offer.
Capone’s reputation in the industry is so distinguished that iconic Canadian builder and TV personality Mike Holmes is featuring her work in the next three seasons on his latest popular television show, Holmes on Homes: Building a Legacy, which
will premiere November 12 on Cottage Life. This opportunity allows her to give back to families in need through design initiatives.
“We’re helping people and that just lights my world on fire,” she says.
Despite her success, Capone remains grounded, crediting her small but dedicated team. “They’re all committed to excellence,” she emphasizes.
From designers to installation teams, every member shares a passion for delivering exceptional results and is focused on creating spaces that clients will love and live in.
Ultimately, Kimmberly Capone Interior Design embodies the philosophy of “live in rooms you love.” By focusing on creating fully curated spaces, Capone ensures that every client leaves with a room they cherish. From consultation to project completion, Capone ensures clients have an above-and-beyond customer service experience.
The customer service team — Teresa Vu, Angel Nguyen, and Aamna Ahmed — are each assigned to double-check for quality assurance and client
specifications at various stages of the process, ensuring that all the steps involved after the client places the order are completed smoothly. This is a unique feature as the majority of interior design businesses do not have a dedicated administrative/ customer-service team.
After the products are delivered, Capone reaches out to each client personally via text from her cell phone, inviting them to share any concerns. This thoughtful approach ensures that every client feels heard and fully satisfied throughout the entire process.
With over 40 years of experience, she continues to set a standard that is difficult to rival in today’s marketplace. A true transformation begins with understanding and artistry, and Capone delivers both with a personal touch that makes a house truly feel like home.

A FRENCH FAIRY TALE COMES TO LIFE
A remarkable French residence that is a perfect melding of grand Renaissance Revival and Neo-Gothic architectural styles and influences is now on offer just two hours south of Paris
Many of the château’s rooms boast impressively high ceilings adorned with intricate mouldings and stunning chandeliers, conveying an immediate and all-encompassing sensation of opulence and grandeur
Among the staples of childhood fairy tales were grand castles in exotic locations, settings that added colour and fantasy to the stories. Perhaps these involved a damsel in distress, perhaps a princess, prince or even a dragon thrown in to add to the drama. These stories clearly were fairy tales, but they all sparked our imagination and our storytelling abilities as we fell asleep to dream of a fantasy world.
Those fairy tales have come to actual life at a remarkable residence, Loire Château, a mintcondition combination of Neo-Gothic and NeoRenaissance architecture in Bourges, France, just two hours from Paris, that is now being offered for sale. (Price available upon request.) The château was designed by noted French architect Hippolyte-Alexandre-Gabriel-Walter Destailleur between 1887 and 1893, in the heart of the Sologne, a forested region that for centuries served as royal hunting grounds for France’s kings. The château was meticulously renovated by its current owners about about a decade ago, and they were careful to stay true to its original design.
Situated in the gorgeous French countryside, the estate’s 51 enclosed hectares were all designed by renowned 19th-century landscape gardener Henri Duchêne. His expertise in creating harmonious and picturesque outdoor spaces was instrumental in shaping the gardens and parkland to complement the impressive grandeur of the château.
The size and scale of this château is truly remarkable. It offers approximately 3,000 square metres of living space, including 25 breathtaking reception rooms. Thinking of inviting a few weekend guests? The château features no less than 21 bedrooms.
THE CHÂTEAU IS A TRULY EXCEPTIONAL PROPERTY,
BOTH FOR ITS BREATHTAKING NEORENAISSANCE
STYLE
AND FOR ITS ELEGANT, SOPHISTICATED AND TIMELESS INTERIOR
The sensation of opulence and grandeur is immediate and palpable as soon as one steps into the magnificent entrance hall with its spectacularly high ceilings, intricate and complex mouldings and stunning chandeliers. The hall leads to a formal main-floor reception room, a drawing room and a formal dining room. Also on the main floor is a chapel, a library, a chess room, a billiard room, a music room and a superb orangery commanding an open view of the surrounding manicured parkland. Of course, the château also features many
majestic fireplaces, exact replicas of those in King François 1st’s Royal Residence, as well as finely crafted furnishings and exquisite painted ceilings.
A main feature of the first level is the magnificent grand staircase leading to the three upper floors. The upper floors contain opulent features and spaces that include an 18th-centurystyle boudoir, a modern dressing room, a master apartment, and bedrooms in the Chinese and Gothic styles. All bedrooms and apartments feature beautifully appointed bathrooms
boasting elegant decorative features.
The completely outfitted downstairs includes a fully equipped chef’s kitchen, state-of-the-art wine cellar, pantries, two additional kitchens, a gym, a utility room, a coal cellar, several dumbwaiters and remarkably innovative system of transport trolleys.
Within the château’s extensive domain is a second smaller brick-and-stone neo-Louis XIIIstyle château built to be a guest house; after some renovation this building could provide further on-site accommodations. Also on the grounds is
an elegant caretaker’s lodge.
The château is a truly exceptional property, both for its breathtaking Neo-Renaissance architectural style and for its elegant, sophisticated and timeless interior. Even in today’s busy, cluttered and sometimes confusing
world, it’s comforting to know there is a place somewhere out there where fairy tales really do come true.

GLOBAL STYLE
82 countries are represented in the Dezeen Awards 2024 longlist of nominees, celebrating the very best of international architecture and design
WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER
Ifyou could suddenly blink your eyes and magically travel quickly around the world, besides the amazing and wondrously beautiful features of our natural world you’d see, the most lasting visual impression might be the truly stunning designs created by the world’s leading designers and architects in seemingly every corner of the globe.
Fortunately, the annual Dezeen architectural awards deliver that same breadth and scope of global style without you having to pack a bag. Dezeen recently announced the 231 projects longlisted for this year’s awards, in partnership with automotive manufacturer Bentley. The winners will be announced at the annual Dezeen Awards party in London in late November.
This year’s longlist includes buildings by such notable creative minds as Snohetta, Neri & Hu, Studio Gang, MVRDV and MASS Design Group, along with many other leading world architecture and design luminaries. The Dezeen Awards truly represent the finest in innovative and creative architecture and the longlisted projects are in the running for awards in 15 different categories and created by studios located in 40 different countries, including Bangladesh, Nigeria, Taiwan, Chile, New Zealand and India.
The top six project city locations are London, with 24 longlisted entries, followed by Paris, Shanghai, Mexico City, Berlin and New York. Among the longlisted buildings this year are an in-fill home with perforated industrial metal panels in Dublin, a waterside mosque wrapped in pink concrete in Bangladesh and a school centred around a tree-filled courtyard in Tanzania.
Other notable projects include a restored wallpaper factory in London, a pink-toned earth-clad hotel in Marrakech and a concretewrapped modular housing concept for displaced communities in Venice.
“We’re proud to continue our partnership with Dezeen in celebrating architectural and
design excellence,” says Chris Cooke, Dezeen Awards judge and head of design collaborations at Bentley. “Delving into this year’s longlist, the standard is higher than ever. In particular, a strong focus on cultural sensitivity and adaptive reuse shows a deep commitment to preserving heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern design.”
Now in its seventh year, the Dezeen Awards truly are the pinnacle of international architecture and design, continuing to champion design excellence and showcase innovation from architects and designers around the globe. This year’s longlisted projects were selected from more than 4,130 entries from
82 different countries.
One of the most impressive projects included on the longlist is in the Large Office category, the Alibaba Damo Nanhu Industry Park by Matrix Design located in Hangzhou, China. Matrix Design helped form a compound headquarters of DAMO Academy by combining the charm of ancient architecture with practical functionality, incorporating distinctive Asian features. The headquarters is not a cold and corporate environment — a serene yet dynamic environment has been created through the integration of landscape and architecture, making the space sympatico for both humans and nature.
The defining feature of Matrix Design’s
creation for this headquarters is the truly magnificent staircase in the atrium of the visitors’ centre Matrix redesigned the original scissors stairs, whose major structure is similar to the Möbius strip invented by German mathematician August Möbius. The stairs are like a flowing line which starts from the first floor and continues to the third floor. It not only functions as a staircase but also fills the space with fun and symbolizes endless scientific exploration.
Other notable projects selected this year are Azabudai Hills in Tokyo by Heatherwick Studio, which is an oasis in the middle of urbanity, Haus 1 – Atelier Gardens in Berlin by MVRDV and Hirschmuller Schindele Architeken and the stunning Central Control Building in Konya, Turkey by Bilgin Architects, illustrating the fun and creativity you can exercise with just four corners and a low, flat rectangular structure.
The next stage of the Dezeen Awards 2024 will be to have a prestigious panel of international

judges, including architects Keiji Ashizawa, Francine Houben, Anupama Kundoo and Alexandra Hagen, shorten the long list of projects. Ninety judges will determine the shortlist later in October, and a further round of judging by Dezeen’s master jury will determine each winner in the 15 categories, along with the overall Project of the Year winner, the Bentley Lighthouse Award winner, which will be announced at the London finale in November.
While dozens of countries may be represented and thousands of entries were considered that combined form with function, there is one commonality to the Dezeen Awards, and that is the reaction by almost everyone who views this outstanding collection of architecture and design: “How did they think of THAT?”— once again proving the spirit of the soul and the creativity and brilliance of the human mind.

Inhome furnishings, few names resonate as strongly as Home Société Group. This renowned Canadian brand, known for its curated collection of interior and exterior furniture, has been a beacon of sophistication and innovation for decades. Now, with its announcement of a transformative rebranding initiative and the appointment of a dynamic new president, Home Société Group is setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in its illustrious history.
The company recently appointed Walid Laaraba as the new president, succeeding Stéphane Corbeil, who has led the company for over 30 years. Laaraba, who joined Home Société Group in 2022, has been a driving force in building strong brand positioning and restructuring the team for a digital-first strategy. His experience in marketing, strategy and digital transformation positions him well to lead Home Société Group into its next phase of growth.
“I saw in him a potential future successor who embodies this new generation,” said Corbeil about Laaraba’s appointment. “More connected, more alert to new technologies, and someone who is anchored in his time.” Corbeil will continue to contribute to the company in a different capacity, supporting the transition as Laaraba takes the lead.
A significant part of this transformation is the rebranding of the group’s distinguished brands — Maison Corbeil, Jardin de Ville, MUST, Home Société and La Galerie du Meuble — under one cohesive identity: Home Société Group. This strategic move reflects the group’s vision to present a unified, dynamic presence in the market, simplifying the customer experience and enhancing brand recognition.

rebranding effort. This expansive new store will showcase a curated selection of the group’s brands, reflecting their commitment to innovation and design. The store
is expected to be a landmark destination for luxury furniture shoppers in Quebec, further cementing Home Société Group’s position as a leader in the Canadian market.
As Home Société Group steps boldly into the future under Laaraba’s leadership, it does so with a clear vision: to continue providing exceptional, curated experiences that elevate the standard of living for its customers. With a renewed focus and a unified identity, Home Société Group is set to redefine the luxury furniture market in Canada, leaving an indelible mark on the communities it serves.

NATURE AND LUXURY
How Gundari Resort Redefines Eco-Friendly Elegance on Folegandros Island
WRITTEN BY ANASTASIIA HORBULOVA
Perched on the cliffs of Folegandros, Greece, Gundari Resort, designed by Block722 Architects+, is a harmonious blend of luxury and nature. Designed to embrace the island’s rugged beauty and serene atmosphere, this eco-resort offers an experience of understated elegance amidst the untouched landscapes of the Aegean.
The Gundari Resort was conceived as a sanctuary that aligns with Folegandros’ pristine environment. The island, known for its dramatic rocky hills, sparse Mediterranean vegetation and endless blue horizon, provides a perfect backdrop for the resort’s design. Block722, led by architect Sotiris Tsergas and interior designer Katja Margaritoglou, aimed to create a complex that not only complements but also enhances its surroundings.
The resort’s design brief emphasized sustainability and respect for the island’s unique character. This resulted in an architectural approach that prioritized minimal impact on the landscape while maximizing guest comfort. The resort is a series of low-lying structures integrated seamlessly into the cliffside. While the buildings’
green roofs and natural materials make them appear as if they are merging with the earth, almost disappearing into the landscape, every suite has been designed to provide panoramic views of the Aegean Sea.
Block722’s vision for Gundari marries tranquility with a subtle sense of adventure. The resort’s layout is inspired by traditional Aegean village forms, and every element has been carefully curated to reflect the island’s visual and cultural heritage. The colour palette draws from the surrounding sea and rocky outcrops, with materials chosen for their grounding effect, creating a serene and intimate atmosphere throughout the resort.
The complex is divided into two sections. The first is a hidden gem nestled into the earth, with green roofs blending into the landscape. The second, while still maintaining a low profile, rises gently above the ground. Central to the resort is the main building that houses the reception and communal areas. Its subtle prominence is reminiscent of a village hall, anchoring the resort’s design within the island’s cultural context.
A highlight of Gundari is its infinity pool, positioned to visually merge seamlessly with the Aegean Sea beyond. Guests are invited to immerse themselves in the blue waters while absorbing the expansive views. The communal areas, many of which are outdoors, are connected by delicate wooden structures that provide shade and continuity, echoing the Cycladic tradition of integrating indoor and outdoor spaces.
Marble, wood and clay are integral to the design of both the interiors and exteriors at Gundari Resort. Additionally, much of the natural stone and gravel used throughout the property was recycled from the site itself, ensuring a sustainable approach that created a gentle circularity in the construction process. This careful use of materials reinforces the resort’s commitment to sustainability while creating a space that feels both luxurious and respectful of its environment. Earthy tones such as soft beige and warm grey complement the natural textures, creating a welcoming and subtly sophisticated environment.
Art plays a significant role in the resort’s ambience. Hand-picked pieces, ceramics and
music enhance the sense of serenity, while bespoke furniture pieces, both built-in and freestanding, were specially designed by Block722 to complete the esthetic. Vintage finds are mixed with these custom creations, adding a personal touch to each space.
Gundari’s construction was a five-year journey that required meticulous planning and a deep respect for nature. Given the island’s remote location, all materials, equipment and skilled labour had to be carefully transported from neighbouring islands and the mainland. This logistical challenge was met with a commitment to minimizing the resort’s environmental footprint, ensuring that the development preserved the integrity of its surroundings.
With its opening, Gundari Resort offers more than just a place to stay. It is an experience — a dialogue between architecture and nature, between tradition and modernity. For those seeking a retreat that offers peace, luxury and a profound connection to the raw beauty of the Greek Islands, Gundari is just such a destination.

THE VOICE OF A GENERATION
The passing of actor James Earl Jones may have silenced his voice, but that voice still conjures up such ‘Force’-ful memories that we can recall it at any time
WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER
Itis almost difficult to believe that the man who possessed what is generally regarded as the greatest voice in the world of English-speaking actors and who spoke some of the most memorable lines in film history battled a severe stutter as a child.
James Earl Jones was 93 when he passed away in early September, ending a decades-long career of theatre, movie and television performances where his mere presence, coupled with a voice that was praised as a stirring basso profondo, lent gravel and gravitas to any role he touched. Looking for a strong, deep and credible voice to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 1990, CNN looked to Jones. His “This is CNN” tagline is still used in 2024 and immediately identifies the network.
Jones often said that poetry and acting helped him overcome a stuttering disability so severe that as a child for years he refused to speak at all. Following his service as an officer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he turned to acting in the 1950s and made his Broadway debut in 1957. Jones worked steadily on Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his role as a boxer in The Great White Hope in 1968. He reprised the role for a 1970 film adaptation, which earned him Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
The mark of a great actor is that classic films seem to find them. That was a trademark of Jones’s career, when he made his film debut in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove in 1964. He
Possessing one of the richest and most recognizable voices in the history of cinema, Jones immortalized on-screen characters like Mufasa and Darth Vader
enjoyed steady work during the 1960s and 1970s, becoming one of the best-known Shakespearean actors of the time.
Hollywood producers began to take notice of his abilities, versatility and stage presence and subsequently sought him out, not only for his acting, but for that voice. In 1977, Jones made his début in his iconic voiceover role as Darth Vader in George Lucas’ space-opera blockbuster film Star Wars. His “[Luke], I am your father,” is one of the most memorable lines of any modern film. When Disney was searching for a commanding and “king-like” voice for the mighty Mufasa in the 1994 animated film The Lion King, there was only one name on the list: James Earl Jones.
In 1989, he played a memorable role in Field of Dreams. Originally thought to be a summer throwaway of interest only to hardcore baseball fans, the story of a magical Iowa cornfield that was transformed into a baseball field and attracted players from previous generations seemed to touch a nerve in America, evoking a return to simpler, more wholesome times.
Jones played reclusive Boston writer Terrence Mann, an almost J.D. Salinger-type figure — proud yet burdened by his past writing success. Kevin Costner’s character Ray convinces Mann to come to his Iowa cornfield, where Mann quickly realizes he is on some otherworldly mission to discover the past and, with it, his youth.
Faced with financial disaster by turning his farmland into a baseball field, Costner’s character considers closing it down. Mann has other advice. His soliloquy about baseball and its power to unite generations of Americans through good and bad times, what the game has meant to people from all walks of life and how people will come to this field to experience that feeling again, “like they were dipped in holy water,” belongs on the highlight reel of life.
With the skill and gravitas that only James Earl Jones could deliver, his closing statement of, “People will come, Ray — people will most definitely come,” summed up not only a movie but a special emotion about the power of a simple game, and remains an iconic slice of American motion picture history.
James Earl Jones was one of those rare actors where you can close your eyes and still hear his voice in your mind. There is comfort in knowing we can close our eyes and still hear one of the greatest actors of his generation, any time we want.
