“Just Friends”

an heterosexual urban men and women ever be “just friends”? You might have befooled yourself in what your parents told you but do you know the truth of the truth? Daily encounters and experiences in life suggests that non-romantic and non-sexual friendships between males and females are not only potential, but familiar in few situations — men and women living, working, and playing side-by-side and by and large appear to be capable to pass up impulsively jumping into bed together. However, many possibilities of this chummy coexistence are merely a façade or are an elaborate covering up countless sexual impulses bubbling just beneath the societal pressure. An advanced research advocates that there may be some truth to this leeway—that we may think we’re capable of being “just friends” with the opposite sex, but the opportunity (or perceived opportunity) for bed romance is often lurking every time, waiting to unleash at the most inopportune moment. The results of this research elicit a conclusion that men, relative to women, particularly had hard time being “just friends” because men predominantly want more out of their so called just friendship. Men seem to see countless opportunities for sex in their so called nonphysical friendships, whereas women in these friendships seem to have a completely different compass reading—one that is actually nonsexual. To an outsider, these immensely different outlooks about the potential for sex in opposite-sex friendships could cause serious complications—and people within opposite-sex relationships agree. The fact that men are fascinated to a female or at least deem that she’s fascinated to him, without human intervention disqualiies a friendship which means that eventually it is only man’s view that deines “just friends.” For others, the thought that just being fascinated to someone means that the bond isn’t “just” a friendship implying that there is some kind of magical isolating line between sexual attraction and friendship. Notwithstanding the obsession of the thought that men’s and woman’s libidos in some way unable them to be friends with someone they ind striking, which ultimately makes us believe that not only can men and women be “just” nonsexual friends, it’s the ixation with the subject that’s stands as a hitch. Even movies about nonsexual friendships are played out in sexual terms where actors are above willing to jump into bed. The meet up, the mushrooming friendship, moment of distrust, the big catdog ight, and then the make-up resolution sex at the end is the story plot of every other movie. Few actors are also in par agreement that make up sex is what they want after a ight with a just friend. Live-in relationship, which once was illegal and looked down as a taboo by the society and country, is now been legalized by the Supreme Court. Youth are happy and are in a strong favor of live-in relationship and being friends with ‘sex’ beneits. Friendship, true friendship, can take in sex and love devoid of being “ruined”, so long as every person in the companionship is sincere with each other and prepared to act like adults but let’s face the reality, people both men and women crave and yearn for sex in any kind of friendship.

ARE E-BOOKS MOCKING THE PRINT? Rahim Chagani
D
o you remember the bedtime stories your mother used to read from a print book rather than downloading it straight from the internet? The feeling when you turned the pages of a book to engross yourself in the content and escape into the smell of the book that left you captivated. Is this passé now?
Pixels and various digital dots are giving papers a run for its money. Innovations in technology are paving new experiences for everyone to read a book. Youth between 16-24 years of age known as the super-connected generation are infatuated reading e-books with the use of technology. Opening a bookshop which ones was a lucrative business, today, are closing down as the brickand-mortar model of selling books has collapsed with cut price cost and even free books readily available on internet. “I found Atlas Shrugged free on internet I downloaded it, getting a print version of the same might have eaten my months pocket money” tells Hussain, a tech-savvy. Nowadays, youth prefer reading from state-of-the-art cutting technologies like I Pad, tablet, kindle e-book readers, phone, laptops and computers. Deepu Ashok, an MS student from a city university says, “E-books pulled my attention because of its smooth access. I can carry many books in my pocket as the load of carrying many fat books is replaced by one gadget.” Not to worry if you can’t buy those expensive e-book readers available in the market, many companies are bringing out e-book apps that can help the common man to live the same experience. “E-cloud has made it easier to access good e-books. Companies solely dedicated in making e-book readers are also joining the cat race of bringing apps like kindle, Google books which is quite helpful.” With many youth being tech-savvy, few youngsters still prefer the print version of book because of its emotional connect. Meghana Koppala, an avid book reader and a communication student feels, “I love to read the print edition of books as no technology exist that can replace the experience of reading a print book. You don’t have to worry about the draining battery.” Looking ahead in the future, B. Praveen, an English lecturer from Andhra Loyola College feels, “Youth prefer technology. With increasing innovation in the world, there are high chances of e-books ruling over the print unless one maintains a mini library in their home.”

Fashion
T
here is a thin line which differentiates between fashion and style. Fashion is about showing off the latest in designer trends, while men’s style rarely changes over time. This piece is not to have the clothing do the talking for you. Instead, the idea is to ind and develop your own image. A way of showing the world who you are, even before you do or say anything. Not to be surprised that most men have no idea how to dress – it is a classic case of the blind leading the blind. Most guys will copy what their friends are wearing, happy to it in and not attract any unnecessary attention. Some go one step further, copyingfrom billboards or looking in men’s lifestyle magazines. Others try to show off with luxury brands. A few give up entirely. However, fashion and style are no longer subjects that are passed down from father to son, and any man who suddenly decides that he wants to look better is often intimidated and overwhelmed. Most men’s fashion books are overly-preachy and judgemental; they try to dress men in a very conservative style that may not actually match their personality or tastes. So much of the advice on how to dress well as a man isn’t all that useful. A good pair of suits which will be useful to own, but not something you’re going to be wearing when you go out everyday. Once a wise man says, “Dressing with style changes everything” A simple guide to dressing well is designed for men who want to understand the fundamental rules of men’s style; how to tell if clothing its, how to differentiate between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ garments and how to create a style that matches personality, job and most importantly, lifestyle. So what to wear instead? The trick is diversifying – taking the same casual level of dress that most young men wear, and adding new looks to it to stay sharp without looking stuffy. It’s not hard to dress well. It certainly requires far less money than most assume. However, it requires some patience and a willingness to try something new. Just as with any major undertaking, there are few steps we need to be practiced along the way…

. Working up new wardrobe
. Get rid of unnecessary
To dress well, you need a sense to avoid wearing messy or distracting clothing. The best way to protect yourself from committing major style crimes is to give all unnecessary clothing away. Failing that, lock it up and use it only for the activities it was made for (e.g. boat shoes for maintaining grip while sailing). As you do this, you will start to see what is a good piece and what isn’t. And in most cases, throwing out the unnecessary will you with little else to wear.
Rebuilding the wardrobe is the most important steps and it will help to sense yourself in choosing the right pair depending on the occasions. Get the best looking pairs you possibly can.Stick to the most versatile men’s items – dark blue denim, solid/checked/ striped shirts, solid trousers/slacks, v-neck tees, blazers/ sportcoats, and two button suits. Variations of these will be more than enough for a good wardrobe. These are good starting points, but there is much more to style than simply following a set of colors and patterns. Get inspiration from some of the style icons and imbibe it in. JUNE/JULY 2014 CITY LIFESTYLE

Gardening or us a tree means lowers, fruits and shade. For a person in a village it means fuel wood, timber, fodder and lots more. For children it is a wonderful place to climb on to and watch animals in action. For elders it is a religious symbol and a pharmacy at home. For some people it is a leaf shedding machine that ills the yard with leaf litter. In urban areas, they are of immense value as they are the only source of greenery amidst the concrete jungle, adding beauty to the city surroundings with their lush foliage, colorful lowers and beautiful shapes. Beside the aesthetic value, they help in controlling pollution, regulating temperature and as wind breakers. Trees are dominant elements of a garden and contribute substantially to the garden atmosphere. They are available in many shapes, sizes, foliage and blooms. The selection of trees depend on the architecture of the building, the purpose for which they are planted– whether a single plant as a focus of attention, or a cluster of plants for mass effect, the position available, whether in shade, semi-shade or open sunshine, waterside, rock areas etc., Trees are grown for shade, cooling effect, screening, reducing dust, sound and air pollution. Based on available space, large or small canopy trees can be grown. Trees can be classiied as evergreen (which do not shed leaves) and deciduous (which shed leaves during a particular season of the year) or as lowering and foliage trees.
F
Trees are an important component of a garden. They • Provide shade during summer and shelter during rainy season. • Help in preventing soil erosion. • Provide good nesting places for birds. • Check air and sound pollution. • Obstruct entry of dust and smoke into the house. • Create required privacy. • Generate fragrance in and around the house with scented lowers. • Make the campus colourful with multicoloured lowers and foliage. • Improve environment by creating humidity and coolness. • Act as a background to the lawns and other garden features. • Act as natural protection system for shade loving potted plants. Tips for Planting & Maintaining Trees: • Dig pits of 27 cubic feet and expose them to sunlight for at least 15 days or burn the pits with leaf trash. It helps in removal of bacteria present in the soil. • Maintain minimum of 20ft. - 25 ft. distance between pits. The spacing can be reduced to 5ft. - 10ft.in case of columnar tree species • Fill the pits with dug out soft soil, 30 Kg compost/well decomposed cattle manure /10 kg of vermi-compost, 1Kg super phosphate and 2 Kg neem cake and 200 Gms of folidol dust. • Plant the trees and water them properly. Next day press at the base and stake the plants. Pressing is done to remove the air pockets created during planting. If air pockets are not removed, they will act as precursors to infections. • Pruning and training by removal of lower branches results in a balanced plant growth. • Regular weeding, mulching and watering in the plant basins during irst three years of planting are essential. • Periodic pruning of dried branches carefully with a pruning saw is desirable. Apply copper oxi-chloride paste to the cut ends.
PLANT A
TREE
Trees help us in many ways. Plant & protect them. Trees hold the soil with their roots and prevent it from getting eroded by heavy rains and winds. Trees in upland areas trap rainwater and prevent looding of lowlands during heavy rains. Trees help to reclaim wastelands by improving soil texture and fertility. Tree roots create paths into the soil, through which water percolates down for use as ground water. Tree roots and leaf litter act as barriers to runoff water, and when stored for a period of time, it decomposes to form leaf mold manure which is excellent for the growth of plants. By releasing water in the atmosphere from tiny pores in their leaves, trees cool and refresh the air; this process also reduces dust pollution as the dust particles in the air stick to the water vapor thus released. Trees produce oxygen through the process of photosynthesis

The value of a tree Trees are renewable source of energy A tree that lives for 50 years generates `5.3lakhs worth of oxygen, recycles `6.4 lakhs worth of fertility and soil erosion control, creates `10.5 lakhs worth of airpollution control and `5.3 lakhs worth of shelter for birds and animals, besides, it provides lowers, fruits and lumber. So, when even one tree falls or is felled, the nation loses something worth more than ` 32lakhs

Gardening
Nature-Friendly Garden in a Pocket-Friendly Economy
Make your Own Soil The most imperative step in gardening is to make Amrut Mitt, which forms a nutrient-rich soil, and has an abundant, diverse microbial life supporting healthy plant growth. It is very straightforward to arrange and the outcome is tremendously effective. Keep sprinkling some red earth in the pots from time to time.
Do Composting Compost, though a time consuming aspect, is also known as black gold, because of its richness and the importance it puts in the soil. It’s a vital element of any environmentalfriendly garden. The most sustainable technique to build compost is to make good use of backyard and kitchen waste like dried leaves, raw fruit and vegetable peel by putting them in a compost heap and hence making them a source of nourishment for the soil.
Recycle and Reuse At the outset, you don’t have to spend in fancy or mud pots. You can start by using plastic bottles, buckets and medium sized bathtubs to grow fruits and veggies in the lawn. Fill it with soil and house compost to grow different veggies like cabbages, caulilowers and onions.
Plant Herb Garden Many of us like having potted plants at home and at lawn, but instead of growing ornamental lowers only, herb garden is also beneicial. They don’t require a lot of effort since they are easy to grow. Additionally, it’s great to identify that your herbs are pesticide-free and that what you eat is healthy.
Shrink your Lawn Expanses of wide varieties of lush green lawns generally uses a lot of resources right from water to fertilizers. It costs a bomb in the pocket to maintain it. A more environment friendly alternative is to shrink extends of planted grass and reinstate it with low shrubs and ornamental grasses which can lourish a longer time.
Save Water When you shrink your garden, you eventually save water. An important thing to note is that an eco-friendly garden is a one that doesn’t drink much water. Mulching comes as a very effective way to reduce water evaporation. Water your garden directly from nature rather than you doing it manually, by installing a rain barrel at the base of your downspouts. You can use a Do it yourself (DIY) rain barrel or buy one from a gardening supply store.

SONY ALPHA 7S he Alpha 7S features a new 12.2-megapixel, 35mm Exmor CMOS sensor paired with the BIONZ X image processor. This is interesting as Sony has reduced the resolution as compared to 24.3-megapixel in the alpha7 and the 36.4-megapixel in the alpha7R. This is done because the Alpha 7S features a very high sensitivity (ISO) range of 50 - 4096002 which would allow the camera to shoot in virtually no-light conditions. To compensate for this, the resolution of the full-frame sensor has been reduced. The Sony Alpha 7S is equipped with the Fast Intelligent AF system found in the alpha7R, with improved low-light AF sensitivity that can go as low as -4EV. The Alpha 7S also features the S-Log2 gamma, which is available in the Sony professional video cameras. The feature expands the dynamic range by 1300 percent thereby reducing clipped highlights and loss of shadow detailing. The Alpha 7S also uses the XAVC S recording format along with the AVCHD and MP4 formats. Other features on the Alpha 7S include the synchronous recording compatible with other devices, markers and zebra displays on the LCD as well as the viewinder. The viewinder is a 2.3 million dot, XGA OLED, 1.3 cm electronic one, while the LCD has 9.3 million dots and is a 3-inch TFT drive screen. It also features a PC mode, multi-micro USB terminal, NFC and WiFi capabilities to share videos. The multi-terminal interface shoe is compatible with the Sony XLR Adaptor Microphone Kits. The sensors on board the Alpha 7S helps process data from all the pixels on the sensor to give a 4K (QFHD 3840x2160 pixels) output video, but it can be recorded only via an external thirdparty 4K recorder. It also records full-HD (1920x1080) at 60fps, 60i fps, 30 fps and 24fps. The video mode can also be changed from full-frame to APS-C (super 35mm equivalent) and support high frame rates (120 fps) at standard-HD (1280 x 720p) to create a 5x slowmotion effect. The Alpha 7S uses the interchangeable lenses from the E-mount lens range. In addition the lenses from the A-mount and other systems can also be used with optional adapters. Also visit the Royal enclosures, riverside ruins, the stepped bath and the famous Hampi Bazaar. One thing that must never be missed while at Hampi is the view of Sunset from the Matanga Hill.It is said that every stone, every boulder of the ruins has a story to tell. Each of them must be given time. So, the best way to tour Hampi is on foot or bicycle. Bicycles can be rented on hour or day basis and
the local maps can be bought at a meager price of Rs. 15. The best way to feel and experience the eerie charm of the ruins is to pedal around the area or just feel every step laid on the great land that acts as an open archeological museum within itself. With its oozing mysterious appeal, the ruins of Hampi becomes an exceptional weekend getaway for the lovers of history, archeology and nature. But unfortunately, it has poor boarding and lodging facilities. Nevertheless, one can stay comfortably at the cozy hotels in Hospet.

he recent Indian elections will be reminisced for many motivations but more importantly for this: Social media platform, which have vied with government bowdlerization since 2011, became a fundamental political campaign instrument and a place for advancing ideologies and free expression. All categories of propaganda a person can think of - White, Black and Grey was used by politicians in the recent elections held in India. To elaborate on the said above, propaganda aims at inluencing the attitude of a population towards some cause, stand or furthering a pre-set agenda, often by presenting facts selectively to win the minds of people. This is used as a weapon to press forward government’s agendas and ideologies. Propaganda, time and again has been proven an effective tool to advance ideologies of a party. Started during Hitler’s administration, these various kinds of propaganda have drawn attention of many wanting in power. The recent election saw all the three propaganda advancing through various media houses. Political leader’s winners and losers of election have targeted social media as a weapon to propagate their propaganda. White Propaganda is basically characterized by forbearing methods of persuasion such as onesided presentation of an argument from an openly identiied source. Black propaganda can be judged from one source, but is actually from another. This is frequently to disguise the true origins, be it from
an enemy country or other political party. Grey propaganda is propaganda without any exclusive source. A major application of grey propaganda is making a foe believe a story using fallacy. It is no twist of fate that national political parties who were tardy adopters or did not have a social media stratagem also attained the icon of nontransparency. Without a shadow of doubt, the recent 2014 Indian elections saw mass use of technology, media and internet platforms to bond, build dialogue, share and muster opinion of citizens by politicians contesting for elections. The current Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi started out at an early stage in conditioning the mindset of the Indians particularly youth towards his ideologies. No doubt, the banter statement he used while marketing himself – “Ab ki Baar Modi Sarkar”, “Ache din aane wale ha kyu ki hum Modiji ko lane wale hai” attracted many people in a hope, good or bad, towards upcoming days of the democratic India. These elections were more a propos jobs, ighting unceasing corruption and refurbish leadership, among a mislaid half-decade of waft and retreating governance. as a weapon of mass attraction and mind conditioning. It’s similar to advertisement industry, bombarding messages time and again till it lasts in the memory. Political ideologies and agenda bombarding can help attract voters like it worked for the PM Narendra Modi’s campaign.

When poll results were announced few days back, Modi’s victory message photo generated more than a million likes and shares. Was this because of bombastic messages thrown by the party across social media platforms or people were very eager to be on a bandwagon? As a matter of fact, no one can say it in a clear-cut way because people’s psychologies change every other second. Networking is a key to connect to masses across the country, its utmost fundamental that in politics one has to connect and share. In the 2014 elections, people have witnessed the mind conditioning process on social media for the irst time. Politicians have employed young and dynamic youth to handle social media accounts to maximize their publicity. Google+ Hangouts, televised interviews, WhatsApp, WeChat were the medium through which political parties were able to bond with million tech-savvy urban voters. ational Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Hyderabad in collaboration with City Lifestyle, their magazine partner, organized Fashionava and Knitmoda 2014 on 22 May at Novotel Hotel, Hitec
City. Fashionava and Knitmoda is an initiative of NIFT to create a platform for inal year students to showcase their creations through a fashion show, as part of an initiation process into the fashion industry. The show which is part of the graduation ceremony will help to create recognition, deepen networks in the industry and encourage talented budding designers. The core idea of organizing such an event is to give qualitative mileage to the designs and products exhibited by students. Their creations were presented through a ramp show giving them the right momentum to create a buzz in the fashion world. The event was a fashionable and trendy affair witnessing varied sequences, and models sashaying down the ramp in stunning creations by the students. Natural World, Nomadic Banjara, Feathers, Jazz in America 1920, and other themes like the magniicent structures of Dubai in black and digital print, were some of the highlights. It was a relection of the highly heterogeneous creative pool that NIFT harnesses. The brilliance of the young designers shone everywhere as models walked the ramps in exquisite creations. Innovation and “out of the box fashion seemed to be splashed everywhere as thematic displays by the students lit up the runway and was a clear sign of the hardwork and detailed curriculums the institute programs had to offer.

Events The show was inaugurated by Pinky Reddy, a city socialite in the presence of lecturers of the institution and a few other professional designers while the rest of the cheering crowd included proud parents and enthusiastic supporters of the young designers. Pinky Reddy, Chief Guest of the event lit the ceremonious candle which was followed by inspiring words for the budding designers as she reinforced in her words saying, “I am very proud of new designers and your creations and such designs aid Hyderabad in leaving an impression and opening new avenues for local designers in the industry.” She added, “I have been part of this show earlier also and today really feel privileged and fortunate to once again be associated with it.” “We are really excited and looked forward to the event to showcase our collections in such a spectacular show such as FASHIONOVA”, said the participating designers who showcased their collection in FASHIONOVA 2014. The show had several surprise elements that constantly kept the attention of the audience. The addition of child models also added lavor to the show. With fashion reaching younger age groups, it was a good indicator that young designers were updated with fashion for the new demographic. The audience was also completely captured by the dazzling colours and fabrics that the designers had experimented with and showed their approval with the constant cheering and presence as numbers remained late into the evening. A wide array of themes were adapted by the designers that featured African based prints blending into corporate wear, while some displayed the inherent spirit of the slums through new age designs. It was indeed heartening for fashion veterans of the city that the new talent entering the industry will be a force to reckon with and that the future of fashion does seem bright!

Death Incarnate True metal heads need no suggestions. They stick to their guns. All I can say is, stay true to metal and respect the scene. Death Incarnate, a Hyderabad based metal band which was formed when the genre of death metal was unfamiliar with the Indian audience. The band comprises of Philip, Abhishek, Raphael and Louis. The team had over an hour high–spirited conversation with the ITCOM’s City Lifestyle. The team is on full swing drumming and thrumming several hours everyday to perform for ‘Domination Death Fest’ which was staged in Extreme Sports bar, Hyderabad. Why they believe Hyderabad has scope for every genre of music and why they feel, they are on top of the world today. Let’s explore and hear more from them. Excerpts from the interview: Could you brief us about this band? Death Incarnate (DI) was formed from the remnants of Hyderabad’s irst gothic metal band ‘After Death’. After the departure of a lead guitarist and keyboardist of the band, we decided to continue playing music that inluenced us. We formed a Death metal act with groove metal inluences. The members of the original line were Philip, Abhishek, Raphael and Louis. Though we had been planning to perform together as DI, we inally get this opportunity to do on the ‘Domination Death Fest’. Due to the original bassist’s departure to Qatar, he has been replaced by Sharma who plays for another Hyderabad thrash/death metal act called ‘Primal Abuse’. What made / inluence you to form this band? How has (your) journey been so far? Death Incarnate was formed by me and Louis in 2007 after the breakup of AfterDeath. We wanted to continue playing death metal and keep the extreme metal scene alive in Hyderabad. But the band was disbandedwhen Louis left to UK for higher studies. Now, we are back in the scene and we continue playing. Soon, we will be hitting the studio to record our irst EP which will be out by this December. What are your songs about? Hatred, War and Gore.

Events How do you describe your music to people? While composing songs, which group of listeners do you keep in mind? We would like to call ourselves a Death/Groove metal act. However, we have various inluences and would just prefer calling as death metal band. Our major inluences are Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under and few of the Old school death metal bands. While composing music, we irstly keep ourselves in mind. We would like to create music, which we would like to listen to and actually enjoy it. However, we do take into consideration our fans and their feedback on what they like about our music and what they don’t. We sometimes make changes accordingly. Any great live performance experiences you’ve had? Yes, we had some amazing experiences playing live gig’s during our time. The best one’s would always be the Hyderabad pub gig’s. However, some special performances include the Pune death fest in 2007 and the IIIT fest in Hyderabad, where we had amazing crown response and mosh pits. What piece of advice would you give to beginners? True metal heads need no suggestions. They stick to their guns. All we can say is, stay true to metal and respect the scene.
