Child care services Looking for quality, safe child care while you work out or take a class? Utilize this service while you enjoy amenities at Genesis Place. Child care is a fun and friendly environment that is open and spacious. Children will take part in age appropriate activities through organized centres, games, exploration and playing with a variety of equipment. Parents can book up to two hours per day. Our commitment to safety – All staff are first aid and CPR certified. Strict child to staff ratios are maintained through the booking process to ensure the safety of all children. Staffing ratios are one staff member to six children (maximum up to two infants). Booking – Peak times in child care are weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m. It is recommended to pre-book with as much notice as possible. To guarantee a spot during non-peak times, a minimum of 24 hour notice is required. Child care accepts bookings up to one month in advance. Drop-in is permitted when ratios have not been met.

Genesis Place AQUATICS fall 2017
A 10 level program for children ages five to 12 years Level 1
The 10 levels allow for solid progression. Children learn competitive and survival strokes and build their distance and speed while focusing on making safe decisions in, on and around the water. In each level, participants are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to the next level once all of the criteria have been successfully completed.
Swimmers receive an orientation to water and the pool area and work on floats, glides and kicking. Swimmers build their endurance by working on the five metre front swim.
Level 2
Swimmers work on propulsion skills to move through the water and to remain at the surface. Swimmers work on the front swim (5m) and learn about deep-water activities and proper use of a personal flotation device (PFD). Fitness activities include the 10m flutter kick and a 10m distance swim.
Level 3
This level provides an introduction to diving and teaches swimmers how to make wise choices about where and when to swim. Endurance is achieved by building strength in the flutter kick and a 15m swim.
Level 4
This level introduces the front crawl (10m) and back swim with shoulder roll (15m). Swimmers work on kneeling dives, surface support (45 seconds, deep water) and developing a greater sense of self-safety by understanding their own limits. Endurance is built through a 25m swim.
Level 5
This level introduces the back crawl (15m), sculling skills, whip kick on the back, stride dives and treading water. Front crawl increases to 15m. An introduction to safe boating skills is also included. Endurance is developed through a 50m swim.
Level 6
This level refines front crawl with a focus on hand entry and breathing (25m), back crawl with a focus on arm positions and body roll (25m), introduces elementary backstroke (15m), safety on ice, and rescue of others with throwing assists. Swimmers demonstrate the front dive and their ability to tread water in deep water for one and a half minutes. Endurance is built through dolphin kick and a 75m swim.
Level 7
This level builds skills and endurance for the front crawl (50m), back crawl (50m), elementary backstroke (25m) and introduces whip kick on the front. Swimmers learn about airway and breathing obstructions, reaching assists and stride entry. Swimming endurance is increased to a 150m swim.
Level 8
This level is an introduction to breaststroke (15m) and feet-first surface dives. Swimmers learn about the dangers of open water, hypothermia, the performance of rescue breathing on children and adults and standing shallow dives. Swimmers participate in timed treading water activities using the eggbeater kick for three minutes to improve their ability to remain at the surface in the event of an unexpected fall into water. Endurance is built on a 300m swim. Front crawl and back crawl distances are increased to 75m each.
Level 9
This level reviews the front crawl (100m), back crawl (100m), elementary backstroke (50m), breaststroke (25m), and encourages swimmers to combine different kicks for fitness (three minutes). They also work on head-first surface dives and learn about wise choices, peer influences and self-rescue from ice. Endurance is built through a 400m swim.
Level 10
This level is a final assessment of the strokes for technique and distance (front crawl 100m, back crawl 100m, elementary backstroke 50m, breaststroke 50m and sidestroke 25m). Swimmers learn about sun safety, rescue of others from ice, and head-first and feet-first surface dives. Endurance is built using the dolphin kick (vertical) and a 500m swim.

Kids Connection preschool 2017/18 Ages 3 to 5 Children are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities including crafts, special events, sharing, imaginative centre play, circle time, sensory table activities, field trips, letter and number identification, creative movement in the dance studio and games, sports and skill development in the gymnasium. Our programming allows children the opportunity to develop and use new talents, skills and interests that will assist them when they enter the school system. Early literacy and language skills are explored by combining calendar activities, name recognition activities, letter of the week program, special helpers and reading and listening centres. Themes related to the world around us offer many opportunities to learn about a variety of topics and allow children to relate these ideas to their everyday life.
Social and emotional learning Social and emotional learning is explored daily in our classroom. Children have the opportunities to choose learning centres to play in with other classmates. Sensory tables open up the chance to explore varied textures and materials while sharing the experience with their peers. This time is a fantastic time to discover how to share and empathize with others in the classroom.

Creative experiences Creative experiences occur regularly in our program. Unstructured art and craft times allow everyone the opportunity to try out new materials and let their imaginations soar. Our centres are designed to allow the children a chance to play creatively using their imaginations to create their own experiences.
Physical growth and skill development Physical growth and skill development are a huge part of our program. Physical literacy is the ability for children to learn the skills necessary for success in being active for life. It is as important to healthy growth and development as the ABCs are important to literacy and learning for life. According to the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines, being active can help young children maintain a healthy weight, improve movement skills, have fun, be happy, develop self-confidence and improve learning and attention. We focus on building those necessary skills such as hopping, jumping, skipping, catching, throwing and balancing. *There is a $25 non refundable fee due at registration.

NO PROGRAMS Oct. 9, Nov. 11
Preschool, children & youth Genesis Place recreation programming Our approach to quality programming is based on the following:
Physical literacy We all know that you have to be able to walk before you can run, but did you know that you have to be able to hop before you can skip or balance before you can kick? Our programs focus on early physical literacy skills through games and activities to promote fun and enjoyment of an active lifestyle later on in life. It’s not about being the best; it’s about being able to participate!
The importance of play Some of the best childhood memories come from the freedom to play! Please join in our PLAY based programs where kids get to have fun and be kids. Whether it’s a parented program where you and your child can enjoy making new friends and playing together, or in an independent class where your child gets to explore different equipment and fun games on their own, it’s all about remembering how to PLAY!

Residential waste, organics & recycling collection Collection and placement
Recycling
Material must be placed at the curb/alley by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
• Collected once weekly year round on the business day following your garbage and organics collection day.
Cart placement is the main reason collection is missed. When placing your recycling or organic cart be sure to leave a minimum of one metre clearance around the entire cart to ensure trucks are able to access it.
• Do not place excess recycling next to your blue cart. The recycling collection trucks are automated and equipped to pick up only carts and not excess recycling around it. If you have excess recycling, hold onto it for the next collection day or take it to the Eastside Recycle Depot.

Multi-family recycling
The City implemented a Multi-family Recycling program in January 2017. As of January 2018 it will be mandatory for all multi-family residential buildings currently not receiving City of Airdrie curbside waste collection services to have a recycling program in place. A multi-family property includes residential condominiums, apartments and any residential building with multiple units that does not currently receive city curbside waste collection services Building owners and property managers are responsible for implementing and ensuring the program meets all requirements however they have the flexibility to choose their own private recycler and to customize the program to meet their building’s specific needs. Every building owner or manager of a multi-family property must: 1. Implement a recycling program that accepts the minimum of: • Mixed paper • Cardboard • Plastics # 1–7 (except Styrofoam) • Stretchy plastic (shopping bags, etc.) • Refundable beverage containers (excluding glass) • Tetra Paks® (juice and soup boxes) • Metal (tin food cans, aluminium pie plates, etc.)
2. Existing multi-family buildings must submit a waste & recycling strategy to the City of Airdrie by January 1, 2018. New multi-family properties occupied after January 1, 2018 must submit a waste and recycling strategy within 30 days of occupancy. 3. Ensure the waste and recycling generated at the property is collected, stored and disposed of in accordance with the waste & recycling strategy in place for that property. 4. Ensure their residents are educated about recycling services, including types of materials accepted and the location of recycling receptacles. Information must be distributed as the program is implemented and within 30 days of a resident moving in. 5. Provide onsite storage of adequate size and quantity to contain all of the recyclable materials generated on the property. 6. Provide clear and visible signage on or near bins indicating: • The container is only for recyclable materials, and • The types of accepted recyclable materials

Public Spaces Recycling Recycle at home and on the go! Ever go for a walk in the park with your coffee and wish there was a convenient location to recycle that cup? What about food scraps from your picnic? Good news, recycling and organics stations are coming to select Airdrie parks and public facilities. Keep an eye out for the new stations and help us keep Airdrie a clean community by placing your waste in the correct bins. We’ve made it easy by ensuring these stations accept the same materials as the blue and green carts.
MIXED RECYCLING
Paper • Cardboard Disposable paper cups Plastic #1–7 Tin food cans
Reminders
Changes to cup disposal We’ve made changes to where we place disposable cups. Disposable paper coffee/ drink cups should no longer go in the green cart with your organics as our processor is finding the plastic liner does not break down during the recycling process and compromises the final product. Disposable paper coffee/ drink cups can be recycled in your blue cart.
ORGANICS ORGANICS
Food scraps scraps • Napkins Food Napkins Fast food food packaging packaging Fast Paper plates Paper NO NO PET WASTE
• Curbside collection requires your waste be put out by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Sign up for e-mail or text reminders at .ca • Not sure where to put something? Check out the Where Does it Go tool on airdrie.ca. • Windy days make for wandering carts – be sure to write your address in the white block on your blue and green cart so it’s easy to identify if the wind moves it. • Cart not collected? Be sure there is one metre clearance around the entire cart, pull the cart out and away from fences and garages so the truck arms can reach around safely.
BEVERAGE CONTAINERS
Cans Plastic bottles Juice boxes
• April 3rd, 2017, the garbage limit changed from two units of waste to one bag of waste per week. Loose material in garbage cans is no longer accepted, it must be contained within one 90cm x 127cm bag. If you have extra bags, you can purchase excess waste tags for $3 per bag from the following locations: Genesis Place, City Hall, Airdrie Public Library, Eastside Recycle Depot, Co-op, any of the four Airdrie Shoppers Drugmarts.
