Child care services Looking for quality, safe child care while you work out or take a class? Utilize this service while you enjoy amenities at Genesis Place. Child care is a fun and friendly environment that is open and spacious. Children will take part in age appropriate activities through organized centres, games, exploration and play with a variety of equipment. Parents can book up to two hours per day.
Continuous bookings – Genesis Place has reserved a limited number of spaces during scheduled hours for adult patrons registered in a dry land or aquatic program. Patrons must provide their registration receipt for the program, and pay in full for the child care spots at the time of booking in order to reserve their space and access this service.
Our commitment to safety – All staff are first aid and CPR certified. Strict child to staff ratios are maintained through the booking process to ensure the safety of all children. Child care is set up to allow infants and younger children a safe place to crawl and toddle without the larger children around them. Staffing ratios are one staff member to six children (maximum up to two infants).
Fees (passes expire within one year of purchase)
Booking – Peak times in child care are weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m. It is recommended to pre-book with as much notice as possible. To guarantee a spot during non-peak times, a minimum of 24 hour notice is required. Child care accepts bookings up to one month in advance. Drop-in is permitted when ratios have not been met.

A 10 level program for children ages 5 to 12 years Level 1
The 10 levels allow for solid progression. Children learn competitive and survival strokes and build their distance and speed while focusing on making safe decisions in, on and around the water. In each level, participants are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to the next level once all of the criteria have been successfully completed.
Swimmers receive an orientation to water and the pool area and work on floats, glides and kicking. Swimmers build their endurance by working on the five metre front swim.
Level 2
Swimmers work on propulsion skills to move through the water and to remain at the surface. Swimmers work on the front swim (5m) and learn about deep-water activities and proper use of a personal flotation device (PFD). Fitness activities include the 10m flutter kick and a 10m distance swim.
Level 3
This level provides an introduction to diving and teaches swimmers how to make wise choices about where and when to swim. Endurance is achieved by building strength in the flutter kick and a 15m swim.
Level 4
This level introduces the front crawl (10m) and back swim with shoulder roll (15m). Swimmers work on kneeling dives, surface support (45 seconds, deep water) and developing a greater sense of self-safety by understanding their own limits. Endurance is built through a 25m swim.
Level 5
This level introduces the back crawl (15m), sculling skills, whip kick on the back, stride dives and treading water. Front crawl increases to 15m. An introduction to safe boating skills is also included. Endurance is developed through a 50m swim.
Level 6
This level refines front crawl with a focus on hand entry and breathing (25m), back crawl with a focus on arm positions and body roll (25m), introduces elementary backstroke (15m), safety on ice, and rescue of others with throwing assists. Swimmers demonstrate the front dive and their ability to tread water in deep water for one and a half minutes. Endurance is built through dolphin kick and a 75m swim.
Level 7
This level builds skills and endurance for the front crawl (50m), back crawl (50m), elementary backstroke (25m) and introduces whip kick on the front. Swimmers learn about airway and breathing obstructions, reaching assists and stride entry. Swimming endurance is increased to a 150m swim.
Level 8
This level is an introduction to breaststroke (15m) and feet-first surface dives. Swimmers learn about the dangers of open water, hypothermia, the performance of rescue breathing on children and adults and standing shallow dives. Swimmers participate in timed treading water activities using the eggbeater kick for three minutes to improve their ability to remain at the surface in the event of an unexpected fall into water. Endurance is built on a 300m swim. Front crawl and back crawl distances are increased to 75m each.
Level 9
This level reviews the front crawl (100m), back crawl (100m), elementary backstroke (50m), breaststroke (25m), and encourages swimmers to combine different kicks for fitness (three minutes). They also work on head-first surface dives and learn about wise choices, peer influences and self-rescue from ice. Endurance is built through a 400m swim.
Level 10
This level is a final assessment of the strokes for technique and distance (front crawl 100m, back crawl 100m, elementary backstroke 50m, breaststroke 50m and sidestroke 25m). Swimmers learn about sun safety, rescue of others from ice, and head-first and feet-first surface dives. Endurance is built using the dolphin kick (vertical) and a 500m swim.

Genesis Place PRESCHOOL & CHILDREN fall 2018
Preschool and Children's Programs Genesis Place recreation programming Our approach to quality programming is based on the following:
Physical literacy We all know that you have to be able to walk before you can run, but did you know that you have to be able to hop before you can skip or balance before you can kick? Our programs focus on early physical literacy skills through games and activities to promote fun and enjoyment of an active lifestyle later on in life. It’s not about being the best; it’s about being able to participate!
The importance of play Some of the best childhood memories come from the freedom to play! Please join in our PLAY based programs where kids get to have fun and be kids. Whether it’s a parented program where you and your child can enjoy making new friends and playing together, or in an independent class where your child gets to explore different equipment and fun games on their own, it’s all about remembering how to PLAY!

Creative experiences
Children are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities including craft, special events, sharing, imaginative centre play, circle time, sensory table activities, field trips, letter and number identification, creative movement in the dance studio and games, sports and skill development in the gymnasium.
Creative experiences occur regularly in our program. Unstructured art and craft times allow each child the opportunity to try out new materials and let their imaginations soar. Our centres are designed to allow children a chance to play creatively using their imaginations to create their own experiences.
Our programming allows children the opportunity to develop and use new talents, skills and interests that will assist them when they enter the school system. Early literacy and language skills are explored by combining calendar activities, name recognition activities, letter of the week program, special helpers and reading and listening centres. Themes related to the world around us offer many opportunities to learn about a variety of topics and allow children to relate these ideas to their everyday life.
Physical growth and skill development
Social and emotional learning Social and emotional learning is explored daily in our classroom. Children have the opportunity to choose learning centres to play in with other classmates. Sensory tables open up the chance to explore varied textures and materials while sharing the experience with peers. This is a fantastic time to discover how to share and empathize with others.
Physical growth and skill development is a huge part of our program. “Physical literacy is when children have developed the skills, confidence, and love of movement to be physically active for life” (Activeforlife.com). It is as important as the ABC’s are to literacy and learning for life. According to the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines, being active can help young children maintain a healthy weight, improve movement skills, have fun, be happy, develop self-confidence and improve learning and attention. We focus on building those necessary skills such as hopping, jumping, skipping, catching, throwing and balancing. *There is a $25 non refundable fee due at registration. Registration starts Jan. 29, 2018 at 9 a.m. and is ongoing throughout the year.

Youth Programs For optimal health benefits, children and youth (ages 5 to 17 years) should achieve high levels of physical activity, low levels of sedentary behavior and sufficient sleep each day according to the Canadian 24 Hour Movement Guidelines. Your youth needs: • An accumulation of at least 60 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous physical activity involving a variety of aerobic activities. Vigorous physical activities, and muscle and bone strengthening activities should be incorporated at least 3 days per week. • Several hours of a variety of structured and unstructured light physical activities. • Uninterrupted 9 to 11 hours of sleep per night for those aged 5 to 13 years and 8 to 10 hours per night for those aged 14 to 17 years, with consistent bed and wake-up times. • No more than two hours per day of recreational screen time. • Limited sitting for extended periods. Preserving sufficient sleep, trading indoor time for outdoor time, and replacing sedentary behaviors and light physical activity with additional moderate to vigorous physical activity can provide greater health benefits.

Recycling
Material must be placed at the curb/alley by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
• Collected once weekly year round on the business day following your garbage and organics collection day.
Cart placement is the main reason collection is missed. When placing your recycling or organic cart leave a minimum of one metre clearance around the entire cart to ensure trucks are able to access it.
• Do not place excess recycling next to your recycling cart. The recycling collection trucks are automated and equipped to pick up only carts and not excess recycling around it. If you have excess recycling, hold onto it for the next collection day or take it to the Recycle Depot.

Christmas tree chipping: Early January Bikes: May 1 – Sept. 30 Keep a record of your bike’s serial number and a photo of your bike. This will help if it’s lost or stolen. Each year bicycles are recovered from parks and along pathways. The City of Airdrie holds bikes for a minimum of 30 days to give owners an opportunity to reclaim their bikes. If unclaimed, the bikes are offered for sale to Airdrie residents for a nominal fee. If you are looking for a lost or stolen bike, contact Waste & Recycling Services to see if the City has recovered your bike. The City does not inspect the bikes recovered nor have any knowledge of or warrants the condition the bikes are in. Therefore, the bikes are sold ‘as is’ with no liability on the part of the City. Furthermore, the purchaser, by paying the nominal fee, waives any rights or claims against the City and becomes solely responsible for the item purchased. Reminders • Not sure where to put something? Visit www.airdrie.ca/wheredoesitgo. • Windy days make for wandering carts – write your address in the white block on your blue and green cart so it’s easy to identify if the wind moves it. • Moving? Please leave your carts behind. They are City of Airdrie property and are assigned to that address. • Damaged cart? Call Waste & Recycling to discuss options to repair or replace it.
Public spaces Recycling and organics can now be found at select Airdrie parks and public facilities and will be expanded to more locations this fall. Keep an eye out for these convenient stations and help us keep Airdrie a clean community by placing your waste in the correct bins. The Public Facilities Recycling program accepts organics, mixed recycling, beverage containers, and garbage. Each one of these four materials goes in a separate bin and it is your responsibility to ensure materials are sorted correctly to minimize contamination. This includes garbage in the recycling or organics in the mixed recycling, etc. If there is excessive contamination, the bin contents will be sent to the landfill as the material will not be hand sorted.

Pet waste Pet waste – pet feces, kitty litter and cage shavings – is now accepted in your organics cart. Pet waste will be accepted in a paper or certified compostable bag or loose. Are made from plastic
Are usually opaque and feel softer than plastic bags
Prevent the flow of air, which is required during the composting process
