Picnic Shelters

Picnic shelters can be rented for groups of up to 150 people. These shelters are perfect for graduation parties, family reunions, team picnics, birthday parties, and more. To reserve, submit a park shelter use application found at BlaineParks.com or come to city hall. Payments must be made at the time of reservation. See the website for park shelter policies and rules. Disc Golf at Lochness Park

11121 Lexington Avenue NE 9-Hole; Open sunrise to sunset Disc golf is a fun activity for participants of nearly all ages and abilities. Simply throw a disc toward a designated basket and like golf, count one point for each throw. Lowest score wins. Lochness Park’s disc golf course has three different tee boxes suitable for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. Disc rental is available through the parks and recreation office. The annual Blaine Safety Camp sessions may include: fire safety, water safety, internet safety, first aid, personal safety, electrical safety, animal safety, brain injury prevention, a police K9 demonstration, and more. To mark the start of the dog days of summer Blaine is hosting Bark in the Park. Bring your favorite four legged friend and visit with companies and non-profit groups specializing in dogs. The event will feature nail trimming and dog merchandise for sale at the vendor booths. You and your dog can also enjoy the pup-arazzi photo booth, food trucks, music by the Backyard Band, and more. Free dog licenses are available on site from the Blaine Police Department with proof of vaccination.

Reading is fun and so is wiggling around! Magical Storybook Adventure is a weekly activity for children of all ages and their caregivers. Moana Musical Theater Camp ages 4 to 8

The Ocean is Calling! We will dance and sing to the music from Moana and put together our own musical! Everyone will learn how to put together a professional show from start to finish. Youth Programs Blast off on an out of this world adventure to PlayNet Blaine. This playground program is coming to a neighborhood park near you. The Cosmic Fun Vehicle will be landing with our highly trained recreation crew, taking kids on a quest for the best summer on Earth. This supervised and structured program focuses on fun, physical fitness, socialization, and exploring creativity by offering age appropriate active games and sport related activities; encouraging kids to meet other kids in the neighborhood; and providing planned arts and crafts projects and drama activities based on weekly themes. Youth Programs Youth Little School ages 3 to 5

Educational and recreational activities are designed to enrich and develop a child’s social, intellectual, and physical growth. Children will have a great time in this class. Each class will have an assistant, making the leader to child ratio even better. Children will participate in activities appropriate for their age level, like arts and crafts, story time, nature study, safety, and creative movement. This class is designed for preschool children; those who have attended kindergarten are not eligible to register even if they fall within the age range. Children must be toilet trained. Pickleball Skill Development

Pickleball players with their own equipment, a good understanding of scoring, and some experience in playing the game can come learn how to bring their game to the next level with top instructors from the North Star Pickleball Association. Picture a beefed up surf board that is stable and a long canoe paddle to propel yourself. Welcome to the Mary Ann Young Center The Mary Ann Young Center (MAYC) is located by Aquatore Park just off Highway 65 and Cloverleaf Parkway. As a focal point for seniors, the center’s staff and volunteers offer a dynamic variety of programs and social events throughout the year.

Dining Program The senior dining program provided by Volunteers of America offers noon meals at a suggested donation of $5 for people age 60 and over, and a cost of $7 for those under age 60. Please call four days in advance to register for the Noon meal.

Defensive Driving Classes

Four-hour refresher classes will be held on specified Thursdays. Classes fill quickly, so plan ahead and register early. These classes are led by an instructor from MN Highway Safety and Research Center. Discounts of 10% on car insurance for three years from the date of taking this class are the benefit, in addition to learning new tips on driving safely. Registration and Policies The Parks and Recreation Department strives to provide community programs and services where unmet interests and needs exist, and to promote cooperation with schools, athletic and civic organizations, community agencies, and interested individuals in the areas of education, recreation, and social and cultural pursuits.

No News is Good News Some programs and activities may require a minimum number of participants. You will only be notified if the class/activity is full or canceled. You will not receive a confirmation letter or call. Refunds Refunds are given if Blaine Parks and Recreation cancels the program or if registration fails because the activity is full. Participants canceling at least 7 days prior to an activity will be charged a cancellation fee as follows: $5 for programs costing $10 to $99; $10 for programs costing $100 or more. Refunds will not be given for programs costing less than $10 or for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the program start date. Trip refunds are subject to specific policies on a per trip basis, based on advanced ticket purchases. Participants must contact the Parks and Recreation Department to request a refund. Day Care Providers Providers are welcomed to enroll children in activities. Parents must sign individual registration forms. Age Groups Activities are designed to meet developmental guidelines of the specified age group. The Parks and Recreation Department does not allow children to register for activities above or below their grade/age. Photo Policy Photographs of program or park participants are periodically taken. These photos may appear in the local newspapers and/or Parks and Recreation Department digital and print publications. If you do not want your photo used, please tell the photographer. Park Repairs Please notify park maintenance at 763-785-6165 about damage, vandalism, or equipment cleanliness issues. Park Shelter Permits Large shelters are available to rent for family or group gatherings. See page 33 for more information. All other shelters are first come, first served. Help End Park Vandalism The Blaine Police Department and Park Patrol need your help to prevent vandalism and apprehend those who vandalize parks and recreation facilities. Vandals destroy what tax dollars have created. Costs associated with repairing vandalized property takes money away from recreational programs and facilities. Help stop vandalism. Always call 9-1-1 to report a crime in progress, including vandalism. To report a crime that occurred in a park but does not require immediate police response, call 763-4271212. Calls are accepted 24 hours a day and you can remain anonymous.
