Be Our MAYC Valentine

Roses are red Violets are blue Valentine’s fun is happening We’d love to celebrate with you!

Wear your best red or pink festive attire and join in on the celebration with entertainment by Kent Appeldoorn. Come and enjoy light refreshments and love songs at 11AM. Then we will give out door prizes as we dine on a lunch of chicken Kiev, rice pilaf, roasted vegetables, a banana, dinner rolls with butter, and a strawberry cheesecake cup. Lunch will be served at Noon.

Keep Your Heart Healthy at MAYC

Each February marks American Heart Month. Raising awareness about heart health and urging Americans to reduce their risk of developing heart disease. Taking care of your heart health has never been more important and there is a lot you can do to prevent heart disease. Encourage others to join you. It is never too late to start. There are dozens of ways to spread heart health messages during February and beyond. Join your MAYC friends in these few ways:

Be Social with Everyday Activities

MAYC activities that get your heart pumping faster, such as bingo, Wii bowling, ping pong, card games, and more.

Resistance Training

Activities that build muscle, such as moderate weightlifting. Take a virtual or in-person fitness class at MAYC.

Eating Healthier Foods

Have lunch at MAYC. Eating enough vegetables and fruits, substituting fried foods for baked options, and reducing your caloric intake.

Manage Stress Levels

Stress strongly influences multiple health conditions, and acute stress can even trigger a heart attack. Reduce stress by picking up a good book or puzzle; laugh with friends; volunteer; and take part in celebrations at MAYC.

Wear Red on the First Friday of February

Take part in National Wear Red Day to raise awareness about heart disease and encourage others to do the same.

Upcoming Trips & Travel

Divas through the Decades

Tuesday, March 4, 10:45am-5:15pm, $99

Hop on the bus to St. Cloud for a buffet lunch at the Coyote Moon which consists of salad bar, popovers, soup, chef made entrées, potatoes, vegetables, and a light dessert. After lunch we will head to the Paramount Theater in downtown St. Cloud for our concert. Divas Through the Decades is a musical tribute to some of the most influential female vocalists in American pop music, featuring songs from the 40s, through today's current hits! The show features music made famous by various divas including Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan, Madonna, Beyoncé, Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and many more!

Festival Arts and Crafts Affair

Friday, April 4, 9:30am-4pm, $50

Enjoy a festive marketplace as you visit an award-winning arts and crafts festival featuring some of the nation’s most skilled artisans and crafters from all over the country. Many of these top-notch, selected exhibitors travel extensively and are only in our area once a year! From traditional to contemporary, this event showcases the finest selection of talents and innovative handcrafted works making these shows the ultimate pop-up shops of the arts and crafts industry. There are food options on site, lunch is on your own. Plan to be at Canterbury Park from 11-2:30pm, price includes admission to the show and transportation.

Monday, April 21, 7AM departure from the MAYC and Friday, April 25, 7PM return to the MAYC.

Travel to Nashville September 20-27, 2025

Grab your friends as we head to Nashville. Overnight at the Drury Inn St. Louis with a visit to the Gateway Arch. Our Tennessee accommodation will be at the Drury Inn, Nashville which includes a free hot breakfast and a free kick back happy hour, daily. Highlights include; a guided tour of the Ryman Auditorium, Country Music Hall of Fame, Belle Meade Historic Site, Andrew Jackson Hermitage Museum, Opryland Hotel, and the General Jackson showboat. Depart Nashville Friday morning. Night in Hannibal MO, on the return.

Double Room Occupancy: $2,189 per person with a $449 initial deposit and monthly payments of $435 for March-June.

Jubilee Musical Event – Thursday, March 6, 1pm

Musical Variety Show – Thursday, April 10, 1pm

Are you a music performer? Consider joining these events to perform for our MAYC visitors. Interested performers should call 763-398-5470 so that practices can be arranged prior to the events. Spectators should register in advance and a donation of $1 is suggested to attend.

Love Song Sing-along

Monday, February 10, 10:30am, free

Air out your vocal cords in a group setting and enjoy a variety of love songs in honor of Heart Month! Light refreshments are always available at the dining counter to enjoy, so grab a snack after all the singing. Advanced registration is required either in person or by calling 763-786-9375

Defensive Driving

Thursday, March 13, April 10, 9am-1pm, $25

Four-hour driving classes will be held on specified Thursdays. Register early, as classes fill quickly. Led by a Precision Driving Center of Minnesota instructor. Those completing the course requirements will receive a certificate for 10 percent off car insurance for three years. February class is full.

1:1 Tech Lab Assistance

Wednesday, February 12, March 12, 9:30am-1:15pm, free

Need some electronic device help? Amy can help. She is a knowledgeable volunteer who will help you navigate your tablet, laptop, or cell phone. Register for a 45-minute one-on-one session. Indicate the specific device you need assistance with when registering. Bring your device and the list of questions or assistance you need to the appointment.

Rum River Art Class – Watercolor

Tuesdays, February 4, 11, 18, 1-3pm, $25

Gather with friends this winter for a fun learning experience. This relaxing 3-week watercolor class will teach many techniques, help you build painting skills, and get inspired to create by a variety of subject matter. All levels of experience welcome and all materials provided. Join us for all the fun!

The Three Stooges: Comedy's Heavy Hitters

Wednesday, February 12, 10am, free Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk! Get ready to learn everything you never wanted to know about America’s favorite nitwits, The Three Stooges! Learn how Moe’s friendship with vaudeville megastar Ted Healey led to the creation of the Stooges, how Shemp entered, left, and entered the act, how Larry became a Stooge after starting out as a violinist and boxer, and just why they called him Curly. It’s an uproarious hour of in-depth stories about the boys and their films from North Metro TV’s Eric Houston.

Saluting the Civil War - Doug Ohman with Pioneer Photography

Doug is a popular speaker, historian, author, and entertaining storyteller. He is also an expert photographer with deep Minnesota roots. Register to attend this recap and continued presentation “Saluting the Civil War-Minnesota’s Role”. Learn how important Minnesota was to the Union cause. Hear stories of Minnesotans who served in this incredibly tragic but most interesting chapter in American history.

Movie of the Month: Twisters

Twisters brings back the blockbuster disaster epic with a whirlwind of heart-stopping action and exhilarating thrills. Ever since a devastating tornado encounter, Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) gave up chasing storms across the Oklahoma prairie to safely study them on screens in New York City. Lured back to the field by her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) and a once-in-a-lifetime scientific opportunity, Kate crosses paths with Tyler (Glen Powell), a charming daredevil and self-proclaimed tornado wrangler whose thirst for tornado-tracking adventures made him a social media sensation. As storm season intensifies with terrifying phenomena unlike anything seen before, Kate and Tyler realize they may need to work together if they are to have any chance of taming, and surviving, an unprecedented outbreak of destructive tornadoes.

Spring Lake Park High School Indoor Walking Club

Saturdays, 9am, free

It might be cold and icy outside, so get indoors to walk this winter. After your 30–40-minute walk, enjoy some friendly company along with refreshments. Bring separate, comfortable walking shoes to put on indoors. Park in the lot located on the corner of 81st Avenue and Able Street: 1415 81st Avenue NE, SLP, MN 55432. Wheel of Fortune

Brain games! Using the large screen TV, participants will see the light up board showing letters in the puzzle. Participants take turns guessing letters and attempting to solve the puzzle for prizes

Line Dancing for Seniors

Learn basic line dance steps. Great for memory, exercise, and social time. Join in on Latin dances, waltzes, pop, and some country. This class is for beginners, those trying to improve and those looking for easier intermediate dances

Nutrition for Healthy Bones

Osteopenia and osteoporosis are major concerns as we age. There are many lifestyle and dietary changes you can make to assist your bones in staying strong. If you would like to learn more, join Health and Wellness Consultant Heather Carpentier, as she shares ways to keep your bones healthy and strong. ACCAP Senior Information Line

This Anoka County Community Action Program information and assistance line can link older adults and their families to services and opportunities. Trained staff and volunteers run this free service and follow up with callers Monday-Friday 8AM-4PM. For more information, call 763-783-4707 or visit, ACCAP.org/senior-services/sil

ACCAP Senior Outreach

Senior Outreach Workers help older adults age 60+ access services to live independently in their own homes or apartments. Referrals include financial programs, home services, fuel assistance, etc. Assistance with paperwork, forms, and applications available. This service is free. Looking for some local information on a topic of interest? There are a large variety of resources available on the display rack behind the front desk of the MAYC. Topics include but are not limited to home health care, senior housing guidebook, help with moving, caregiving, store to door grocery delivery, senior companion program, senior law project, outpatient therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, affordable prescription medication, and more. These resources are provided as a courtesy to local community organizations as possible reference material and are not specifically endorsed by MAYC staff.

Tuesday, February 18, 11am

Cozy up with a warm cup of cocoa. Add special toppings while catching up with MAYC friends.

Monthly Birthday Luncheon

Wednesday, February 26, 11am

Celebrate birthdays with MAYC friends each month. Entertainment will be Tom Paquin and starts at 11AM, pot roast lunch is served at 12PM, and 1PM finishes out the afternoon with prize bingo.

Blaine Liver and Onions

Thursday, March 13, 11am, $5

A fan favorite, this specialty luncheon consists of homemade liver and onions, mashed potatoes, vegetables, bread, and a cookie. The alternate entrée is a beef patty in mushroom gravy that can be specified at the time of registration. Registration is in person or by phone: 763-786-9375.
