Disc Golf at Lochness Park

Disc golf is a fun activity for participants of nearly all ages and abilities. Simply throw a disc toward a designated basket and like golf, count one point for each throw. Lowest score wins. Lochness Park’s disc golf course has three different tee boxes suitable for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. Disc rental is available through the parks and recreation office. Play is on a first come, first serve basis.

The Blaine Police Department, Spring Lake ParkBlaine-Mounds View Fire Department, and the Blaine Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring an exciting program to teach kids, through a variety of fun activities, how to be safe in their daily lives. The annual Blaine Safety Camp sessions may include fire safety, water safety, internet safety, first aid, personal safety, electrical safety, animal safety, brain injury prevention, a police K9 demonstration, and more. Safety Camp is held rain or shine. Fee includes lunch, snacks, adult leadership, supplies, fitted bike helmet, t-shirt, and awards. Max 140.

The mission of Mayer Arts is to not only provide training for those who are serious about learning but also to offer classes that are tons of fun! THE Thursday August 7 5-7pm Swanson Dog Park

To mark the end of the dog days of summer Blaine is hosting Bark in the Park. Bring your favorite fourlegged friend to visit with companies and non-profit groups specializing in dogs. The event will feature nail trimming for a fee and dog merchandise for sale at the vendor booths. You and your dog can each enjoy an ice cream while you sit back and listen to the music from The Backyard Band. There will be a food truck on site for the event as well as free dog licenses are available on site from the Blaine Police Department, with proof of vaccinations.

Welcome to Tech Academy, Minnesota’s premier STEM camps and classes provider. Tech Academy is an exciting learning environment specializing in technology education (STEM) for children and teens ages 4 to 15. Camps are kid friendly and promote hands on learning experiences with time to experiment to foster creativity.

Technical requirements for all classes:

• Computer: PC (Windows 7 or later) or Mac (OSX) with at least a 2GHz processor and 4GB of RAM

Junior Engineering

If learners like building and figuring out how things work, they will love this class. Join as we explore, investigate, and solve problems while learning about simple machines and there engineering building blocks. Students working in pairs will enjoy hands-on activities using LEGO® Gears and unique LEGO® Technic® engineering components that incorporate math, science, and creativity. Yes, we can learn about robotics! With the LEGO® WeDo robotics system, young children can build and program their robotic creations. Designed by the experts at MIT, this unique system teaches children about simple machines, engineering, programming, and so much more. Young imaginations soar. The LEGO® Education WeDo Robotics Builder class allows students to explore different concepts in robotics. Possible models may include dancing birds, a hungry alligator robot, a goal kicker robot, a rescue plane, and a smart spinner robot. Students will be working in pairs. Max. 18. Educational and recreational activities are designed to enrich and develop a child’s social, intellectual, and physical growth. Children will have a great time in this class. Each class will have an assistant, making the leader to child ratio even better. Children will participate in activities appropriate for their age level, like arts and crafts, storytime, nature study, safety, and creative movement. This class is designed for preschool children; those who have attended kindergarten are not eligible to register even if they fall within the age range. Children must be toilet trained. Chateau Winery

Tour the Chateau Winery in St. Croix Falls, WI. We will first stop at the Lowell Inn, which was created by Elmer Lowell. Lunch will be in the Garden Room and we will be served chicken ala king - tender pieces of chicken, mushrooms, red and green peppers in a sherry cream sauce served over a puff pastry shell, mashed potatoes, vegetable of the day, beverage, and a small dessert. After lunch we will drive to the Chateau Winery nestled in the rolling hills of St. Croix River Valley. Looking to rent a room for your meeting or event? Rooms at the Mary Ann Young Center may be rented on evenings and weekends. A minimum of two hours must be rented for each booking. Deposits are required for parties and for the rental of the two larger Tom Ryan rooms. Fees vary based on day of the week, size of the room, and resident vs non-resident. Rental space tours are available and need to be confirmed in advance and generally are best between 2:30-3:30PM Monday through Friday.

Defensive Driving Classes

Four-hour driving classes will be held on specified Thursdays. Register early, as classes fill quickly. Led by a Precision Driving Center of Minnesota instructor. Those completing the course requirements will receive a certificate for 10 percent off car insurance for three years.

MAYC Information

The Mary Ann Young Center (MAYC) is located by Aquatore Park just off Highway 65 and Cloverleaf Parkway. As a focal point for seniors, the center’s staff and volunteers offer a dynamic variety of programs and social events throughout the year. The senior dining program offers noon meals at a suggested donation of $5 for people age 60 and over, and a cost of $8 for those under age 60. Please call by Wednesday morning for the following full week. Van service is available for residents of Blaine to transport participants to and from the MAYC for a cost of just $2 per round trip.

Help End Park Vandalism

Help stop vandalism in our parks! Always call 911 to report a crime in progress, including vandalism. To report a crime that occurred in a park but does not require an immediate police response, call 763-427-1212. Calls are accepted 24 hours a day.

Park Repairs

Notify Park Maintenance at 763-785-6165 regarding any damages, vandalism, or equipment cleanliness issues.

Photo Policy

Photographs of activity participants are periodically taken. If you do not want your photo used in our publications, please notify the Parks and Recreation office at 763-7856164.

Inclement Weather Policy

Parents or participants can visit blaineparks.com for the latest updates regarding canceled or delayed activities. The Parks and Recreation Department will also be available Monday-Friday, 8AM-4:30PM at 763-785-6164 for updates.

Participant Code of Conduct

The following guidelines are in place to provide safe and enjoyable activities for all those participating as well as those attending as spectators.

• Respect all participants and staff.

• Take direction from staff.

• Refrain from using abusive or foul language.

• Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other participants or staff.

• Refrain from damaging equipment, supplies, or facilities.

Failure to follow these rules may result in a suspension of participation.

Natural Resources Conservation Board Meetings

Regular meetings of the NRCB are conducted on the third Tuesday of certain months at 7PM at Blaine City Hall. All interested residents are encouraged to attend. NRCB meeting agendas, minutes and videos are available at BlaineMN.gov/Agendas.

Regular meetings of the Blaine Park Board are conducted on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7PM at Blaine City Hall. All interested residents are encouraged to attend. Park Board meeting agendas, minutes and, videos are available at BlaineMN.gov/Agendas.
