Bid from Monday, May 29 - Thursday, June 8

Thanks to a generous donation from a MAYC participant, a silent auction on a computer package will take place as a fundraiser.

Computer Package: comes with Windows 10, a monitor, tower, printer, speakers, keyboard, and mouse. Only a few years old, the computer looks to be in great condition.

The starting bid for the computer package must be at least $100. Bids thereafter must be minimum $10 increases. The bid sheet and computer will be set up in the MAYC lounge during business hours Monday thru Friday, 8:30AM-4PM. To place a bid, simply add your name, phone number, and bid below the last name on the bid sheet. Bidding will end at 12:45PM on Thursday, June 8 with a countdown by staff. Last bidder on sheet will need to complete the purchasing process with staff.

Root Beer Floats and Trivia

Thursday, July 6, 1-2pm

Program sponsors from Allina Health/Aetna will lead this fun and refreshing event at the Mary Ann Young Center. Enjoy a rousing game of trivia as you sip on one of Minnesota’s most popular summertime beverage: root beer floats. Advanced registration required.

Ukulele Donation Request

If you have a ukulele not being used and are interested in donating it to the Mary Ann Young Center, please let staff know by calling 763-786-9375. When interested participants join the beginning ukulele class on Fridays, they often do not have a ukulele. At that time, they may not know if it is an instrument they wish purchase. Donated ukuleles will be loaned to new participants for practicing, until they decide to purchase their own. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Health Care Directives and Advance Care Planning

Friday, June 9, 10:30-11:30am

Leaving instructions about your health care choices helps ensure decisions are made that are based on your values and preferences, even if you are unable to make your wishes known. Led by Mary Madill, a representative with Senior Linkage Line of Minnesota, this presentation will discuss advance care planning and health care directives. Additional topics will include, who can be a health care agent and what the responsibilities are for that role, why advance care planning is important, and topics to consider when completing a health care directive. Register in advance to participate.

Defensive Driving Refresher Classes

Specified Thursdays, 8:45am-1pm, $25

Looking for continued discount on your vehicle insurance? Once you have taken a full eight-hour class, you are eligible to take a four-hour refresher class every three years to continue to receive discounts. Classes are led by an instructor from the MN Highway Safety and Research Center. Participants receive a discount of 10 percent on car insurance for three years from the date of taking this class, in addition to learning new tips for driving safely. Classes fill quickly, so plan when registering. Summer and fall dates listed below.

Property Tax and Rent Credit Assistance

Tuesday, June 6 and Wednesday, July 19, 9am-12pm, Free

No appointments taken. Participants will receive a number upon entering through door #2 and will be served in numerical order. Checklists are available at the MAYC counter to ensure you have what you need to file.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Wednesdays, July 12 - August 16, 10am-12pm, $50

Cost is $50 which includes The Caregiver Helpbook valued at $30 plus valuable class materials. Facilitated by Jill and Amber, trained leaders of the Anoka County Family Caregiver Connection program. Register by July 5.

Vision Loss Product Demonstration

Tuesday, June 13, 10:30am, free

Cindy Kauffman, from State Services for the Blind, will be offering this seminar on common eye ailments, what to do now, who can help, tips and tricks, and tools and equipment. She will bring and demonstrate various products such as: large print and talking clocks, magnifiers, glare reduction glasses, audio talking books, and more. In addition to attending this presentation, Cindy is available to meet with you on the third Wednesday of the month at 10AM at the MAYC or in your home to show and help you obtain visual aid devices.
