English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL
If you’re aged 16-18 and English isn’t your first language, our ESOL courses are designed to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
Our courses cover five different levels. The first level is Pre Entry/Entry 1, which covers basic English vocabulary and grammar. You will have an initial assessment to determine which level is right for you to start at. Once you complete your first level, you can move up to the next one, and so on.
Learning English can help you to progress into further education or employment. Our ESOL courses aren’t just about learning the language, though. They also include other skills including maths and information technology, and industryspecific vocabulary and skills including care and construction, to start you on the way to your future career. Entry 3 - Level 1 courses will include a vocational offer to encourage personal development and progression within the College.
There are various progression routes into other courses and apprenticeships once you have completed your ESOL course
Our ESOL courses for 16-18 year olds are taught for 16.5 hours a week over one year, and awarded by the English Speaking Board (ESB).
