DAY CAMP
(6-12 yrs.) Stay busy all summer long in this camp for kids entering grades 1-6. Spend your days playing games, making crafts, swimming, participating in special events, and going on an occasional field trip. Payment for the first week is due when you register. Additional week’s payments are due the Monday of the specific week. Campers bring their own lunches. Morning and afternoon snacks and swimming are provided. A camp building is available in case of inclement weather. JONES PARK SITE Begin and end the day at the former Jones Golf Course Clubhouse. Activities will be held outside, weather permitting. SAFE SWIMMING GUIDELINES
• Children ages 5 & under must be supervised by an adult within arm’s length. • Youths ages 6-10 must be supervised by an adult or responsible person at least age 14. • Actual swim attire is required. Fibers from street clothing damage the pool filter. (Sorry, no basketball shorts.) • Deep End Test: To use diving boards, drop slides or swim in water over 5 feet, you must take the test at any pool where you swim each year. • Concessions are available. No outside food, beverages, alcohol or coolers. • A walking lane is available at some sites. A lap lane is available at Ellis Pool during Open Swims.

• Lap swimmers are allowed entry into the locker room 10 minutes prior to the starting time and into the pool at exact starting time.
PUBLIC SWIM FACILITY CLOSING POLICY Pools and aquatic centers may open late or close early for the following reasons:
• Always circle swim. Stay to the right of the black line in your lane, swimming counter-clockwise.
• Air temperature below 70 degrees (Lap Swim: air temperature below 60 degrees)
• Noodles are not permitted.
• 20 people or less in the facility for a period of one hour (50 people or less at Noelridge and Cherry Hill)
WATER FEATURES & SLIDES Crocodile Walk Must be a minimum of 54” tall or pass deep water swim test each summer to use. Water depth is 48”. Appropriate for all ages meeting height and swim requirements. Drop Slides & Diving Boards Deep water swim test required each summer prior to the first use. Water depth is 11-15 ft. Appropriate for all ages meeting skill requirement. Turn and Speed Slides Must be a minimum of 48” tall to use. (See signs.) Water depth is 42”. Appropriate for all ages meeting height requirement.
SWIMMING
GENERAL RULES • Everyone entering the pool must pay or have a valid season pass. Infants under six months are free.
• Lightning/severe storm in area • Mechanical problems • Poor water quality • Special events/situations • Darkness • Maximum bather limit reached (When pool reaches capacity, patrons may be turned away and referred to another facility) • Other reasons deemed necessary by Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation
• Water wings/floaties, infant float tubes, large inner tubes, swimsuits with removable floats and life jackets are not allowed.
HEALTHY SWIMMING • Do not swim for two weeks after you or your child has had diarrhea.
• Snorkels, masks that cover the nose and diving sticks are not allowed at Open or Family Swims.
• Non-toilet-trained children must wear swim diapers. Swim diapers may be purchased at the pool.
• Always shower before entering the pool.
• Changing stations are available in all restrooms.

City of Cedar Rapids Summer Swim Passes Passes provide admission to Open, Family, Adult, Lap Swims and Water Exercise as age appropriate. Schedules for pools, programs/water features may vary. (See pages 50-51.) Valid May 29-September 6, 2021. • You must present your pass to enter the pool. • Passes are non-transferable and non-refundable. • Replacement cards may be purchased for $5 if cards are lost or stolen. • Children under the age of two years as of June 1 will receive a pass without a photo. • Passes may be revoked for pool infractions and misuse with no refunds. You may be asked at any time for verification that your family meets eligibility requirements. Misrepresentation could result in loss of passes.
• Individuals who are immediate family members and who live at the same residence (maximum of two adults) are eligible for a family pass. Children must be under the age of 21 (maximum of four) and related to one or both the household adults as offspring or by marriage, adoption, foster care placement or legal guardianship. SWIM LESSON INFORMATION WHEN TO REGISTER Advanced registration is required. No registrations are accepted on the first day of a session. Limited registration may be available as the session start date approaches. Registration cut-off at 11:59 p.m. the Saturday before the session begins. HOW TO REGISTER Choose the session, then pick the level and time of the desired class from the charts on pages 56-58. Register using the corresponding number. Before the Pools Open: • Online at www.CRREC.org • Call or walk in to Northwest Recreation Center or City Services Center, 319-286-5566 Once the Pools are Open: • Same as above OR • Walk in to any pool whenever they are open WITHDRAWALS, REFUNDS, TRANSFERS Withdrawals and transfers will be honored if they are made by 5pm the Wednesday before the first day of class. In all cases a $4 nonrefundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund. Once the Thursday before the first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the program is cancelled by Parks & Recreation. There is no guarantee that all classes will be made up. COOL WEATHER Lessons are held even on cool days. Swimmers might only be in the water for a limited amount of time or not at all if the weather is cold. Water Exploration PUDDLEJUMPERS (6 mos.-3 yrs. with Parent/Guardian) The purpose of this class is to expose the child to water adjustment skills. Front kicking, underwater exploration, and entering and exiting the water will be covered. One parent per child.
Youth Lessons Read each level carefully and compare the skills listed to those your child is currently able to perform. If you are certain that your child can complete all the skills listed in the description for that level, then register for the next higher level if he/she is the appropriate age. Note: In most cases, it will take a child more than one session of lessons to pass the level.
LEVEL 1 - INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS (3-5 yrs.) Must be age 3 by the first day of class. Four year-olds who have passed a Level 1 class may go to Level 2. Noelridge Greenhouse The Noelridge Greenhouse produces 55,000 plants yearly for Cedar Rapids parks. They are planted by greenhouse permanent and seasonal staff and Friends of Noelridge volunteers at the Noelridge gardens, Bever Park, Greene Square, Ushers Ferry, City golf courses and many other parks in the city. Due to COVID-19, tours of Noelridge Greenhouse will not be offered this summer. Please visit and enjoy the gardens on your own.
Permits are required to use these parks. Purchase them online at www.crrec.org, by phone (319-286-5566) or in person (when City facilities re-open) at: Parks & Recreation Dept. Park Pavilion Rental Rent one of 25 pavilions in the City parks up to one year in advance of the intended use date (between May 1 and September 26, 2021). They are rented for two use periods: 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. Sizes range from 7-40 tables. Rates vary based on size and location. Call 319-286-5566, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. for more information. See pavilions and their features at www.CRREC.org.
The City of Cedar Rapids has two off-leash parks. Cheyenne Off-Leash Dog Park is located on Cedar Bend Lane SW, off Old River Road and K9 Acres is located north of Gardner Golf Course at 5200 Golf Course Road, Marion.
Daily Passes (for those who want to try the park or are in the area for a short time) may be purchased. Buy them online at www.crrec.org.

Reservations are taken year-round in person at the Northwest Recreation Center. A $100 deposit is required to rent the community room and gym. The deposit will be returned after the room is inspected at the end of the event. Private after hour rentals are available for family gatherings, corporate parties, or other groups wishing to entertain at the Northwest Recreation Center. REGISTRATION GUIDELINES • Payment must be received to register for a program. • The Department reserves the right to cancel or consolidate classes based on registration. A full refund is issued for all cancelled classes. Minimum and maximum class sizes are utilized. • Waiting lists are established when classes are full. Additional classes may be offered if the minimum enrollment is reached and facility space is available. • Fees will not be prorated. • Registration is required prior to the start of class, unless noted. • A youth waiver is required for every participant age 17 and under. • A $4 nonrefundable handling charge will be deducted from the refund of each class when an enrollee withdraws prior to the first day of class. Once the first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the class or program is cancelled by Parks & Recreation. Swimming exception: See page 54. • If your child turns the minimum age required within 30 days of the start of the program, they may register for that program unless noted otherwise. • Web registration is available up to the day prior to the start of the class or session or the registration deadline date.
