WATER EXERCISE

(15+ yrs.)

This instructor-led class concentrates on stretching, strengthening, flexibility and range of motion exercises. Drop-in program, preregistration is not required. Current season pass or punch pass may be used.

PUNCH PASS

May be used by an individual, a group or transferred to another person for any age appropriate public swim and water exercise class. No photo required. Passes expire on the 20th punch. Purchase passes at the outdoor pools anytime they are open.

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING

(15+ yrs.) Must be age 15 by the last day of class

Class begins at NW Recreation Center. Prerequisite skills test must be passed prior to the first day of class. Skills assessed will be:

• 300 yd. continuous swim

• Timed 10 lb. brick retrieval

• 2 min. treading water (no arms)

Friday 5-10pm, Saturday 8am-9pm, Sunday 8am-9pm

Pre-test Dates/Times

Sunday and Tuesday before class begins at 7:45pm

INTRO TO KAYAKING (15+ yrs.)

LIFEGUARD REVIEW

(15+ yrs.)

Has it been two years since you last took a lifeguarding class? Demonstrate your knowledge and skill competency with little or no review. (Current lifeguard certifications are required.) Successful completion of this class renews your lifeguard, first aid, CPR-P, and AED. Bring pocket mask, book, suit, and towel. Class begins at NW Recreation Center.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR - WSI (16+ yrs.) Must be age 16 by the end of class

Successful completion of this class results in certification to teach all levels of swim lessons. Participants must attend all sessions. Class begins at NW Recreation Center.

Learn to kayak or brush up on your skills! In this one-day class led by American Canoe Association (ACA) certified instructors, Chuck Ungs and Lynne Majetic, participants will get exactly what they need to start their kayaking adventures. The class covers appropriate gear, safety basics, kayak strokes, and more. Register early! Class size is very limited. Register by 6/9.

Swim Lesson Information

When To Register

Advanced registration is required. No registrations are accepted on the first day of a session. Limited registration may be available as the session start date approaches. Registration cut-off at 11:59 p.m. the Saturday before the session begins.

How To Register

Choose the session, then pick the level and time of the desired class from the charts on pages 56-60. Register using the corresponding number. Before the Pools Open:

LOW/HIGH ENROLLMENT

Classes not making the minimum enrollment may be cancelled. Maximums are not guaranteed.

Age Requirement

If your child turns the minimum age required within 30 days of the start of the program, they may be registered for that program unless an exception is noted otherwise.

ELLIS (Saturday sessions - meet 8 times)

Once the Pools are Open:

WITHDRAWALS, REFUNDS, TRANSFERS

Withdrawals and transfers will be honored if they are made by 5 p.m. the Wednesday before the first day of class. In all cases a $4 nonrefundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund. Once the Thursday before the first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the program is cancelled by Parks & Recreation.

IMPORTANT: If your child does not meet the age requirement, the computer will reject your registration and your child will not be enrolled. In this instance, you cannot register online. Call Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation, 319-286-5566.

Weather Cancellations

Classes are cancelled if dangerous weather conditions exist at the time of the lesson. Dangerous weather conditions are lightning and/or a severe storm. Call the appropriate pool for cancellations. Cancelled classes may be made up on available Fridays during the session. There is no guarantee that all classes will be made up.

Cool Weather

Lessons are held even on cool days. Swimmers might only be in the water for a limited amount of time or not at all if the weather is cold.

Pool Closings

If a pool is unexpectedly closed, lessons may be made up on Fridays during the session. There is no guarantee that all classes will be made up.

Health Requirement

If your child is sick, he/she may not enter the water for two weeks after the last episode of diarrhea. Call 319-286-5741 with questions about transfers and refunds.

Locker Rooms

Locker rooms are open and available. Patrons are encouraged to come dressed to swim.
