Computational Thinking and Design with Minecraft
3-5 Grade
In this course, players will explore a blocky, procedurally-generated 3D world, discover and extract raw materials, craft tools, and build structures or earthworks. Minecraft is the perfect avenue for designers and game builders to explore the basics of design, engineering and computational thinking, and work on their problem-solving skills while developing these out-of-the-world virtual environments. Intermediate Blacksmithing with Focus on Projects
18Y+
In this intermediate class, you will continue exploring the seven blacksmithing processes touched upon in Basic Blacksmithing for Beginners. As each process is introduced, you will see examples of how the technique is used to produce more complex items. In class, you will focus on creating your own project based on one of three distinct tracks. The first is ornamental, with possible projects including bottle openers, coat hooks, or “magic” wands. The second is kitchen tools, of which some examples are forks, spoons, cheese cutters, and steak turners. Finally, there is a tools track, in which the students can make a tool, such as scrolling pliers, punch, chisel, or fuller. Information regarding appropriate clothing and protective equipment detailed in online description under Notes.
