From the Director’s Desk… Hello Encinitas,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful start to the New Year. I want to provide an update on the Standard Pacific Park Site Project. The design team is working on the design drawings and is proceeding with the permitting process. RRM Design Group and Wormhoudt Inc. developed the design for the skate/bike spot element. We want to thank all of the community participants for their input on this project. The park is projected to open in May 2020. For more information on the park please visit www.EncinitasCA.gov/StandardPacificParkSite. Staff is currently working on installation of shade structures over the playgrounds at Encinitas Community Park, Leo Mullen Sports Park and Sun Vista Park. The shade structures should be installed by summer 2019. In this season’s issue of our brochure you will find summer camp information. If you are looking for something fun for your kids to do, Encinitas is the place. The department offers a variety of camps and programs such as beach programs, science and engineering camps, theatre and sports camps as well as Seaside Day Camp. The department offers amazing events, classes, programs, concerts, art exhibits and so much more. We have beautiful parks, beaches and trails for you to enjoy as well. This year try a new program or take a hike on a trail. There is so much exploring to be done in Encinitas.

ON LEASH PLACES CODE OF CONDUCT The City of Encinitas Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department Code of Conduct is to ensure respectful and safe participation in Encinitas recreation programs and activities. Participants, as well as parents of participating minors, may be required to sign Code of Conduct forms to acknowledge program rules, goals, expected behavior and/or consequential actions to support a positive and valued learning and/or recreational experience. This Code is also to be considered and adhered to by all contracted, voluntary and other support staff.

Dogs are welcome (on 6-foot leash) at all Encinitas parks with grass turf and on trails. For the safety of your pet, please keep dogs away from posted sensitive habitat areas. Dogs are not allowed on artiﬁcial turf, athletic ﬁelds or any beach or beach access operated by the City (beaches north of San Elijo State Beach in Cardiff to Encinitas northern city limits). For the quickest response to service needs please contact San Diego Humane Services at 619-299-7012.

By combining education with recreation, participants learn about the ocean environment, acquire professional lifesaving skills, and enjoy swimming, bodyboarding, bodysurﬁng, snorkeling and skills competitions. The program goal is to educate young people in ocean and beach safety while building self-confidence and appreciation for the ocean environment. This awesome course offers an interactive look at the world of 3D game design and the chance to create and immerse yourself into a 3D world. If you are looking to design professional 3D games that both look and feel just like the ones you play at home, then you don't want to miss this course.

Child and Babysitter Safety (ages 11 - 16) This hands-on class includes topics such as babysitter's responsibilities, safety, infant care and an introduction to first aid. Participants practice with dolls for infant skills such as bottle feeding and diapering, and mannequins for learning infant and child CPR. Our surf camps are specifically created to help learn proper surfing fundamentals while developing proper surfing techniques. We will work on skill development and ocean safety while helping our students get to the next level of their surfing. Moms N Groms / Rad Dadz Surf Classes (ages 4 - 8) In this specialty surf class we work with both parent and child in the water together, so they can safely enjoy the water. During this class we will show moms and dads how to use speciﬁc techniques with soft surfboards so they can safely surf with their groms. Some points of safety and emphasis are learning how to identify rip currents, high and low tides, sandbars and reefs. We want to teach moms and dads how to identify any potential hazards and how to know when it is the best time to take theirs groms into the ocean and maximize the fun. Information will be presented by registered nurses who have many years of experience in intensive care, palliative and hospice care. This course is divided into two parts. The Death Café is hosted by the Encinitas Library in partnership with the City of Encinitas Senior Citizens Commission. At the Death Café, people come together to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. The objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives. TRANSPORTATION Encinitas Senior Center Lunch Transportation Transportation is available for eligible senior citizens (60+) to and from the Senior Center for lunches Monday through Friday. Out and About Encinitas- Get on Board! Are you an Encinitas senior citizen resident with no means of transportation? If so, you may be eligible to become a passenger. Volunteer drivers will take you to the grocery store, doctor appointments, pharmacy, Senior Center and many other locations in Encinitas. Call Ashley Keller, Recreation Coordinator at (760) 943-2256 to request an application. There is no charge. At the present time, approved Out and About Passengers are being put on a wait-list. When additional drivers become available, passengers will be notiﬁed in the order the applications were received.
