Bring the family out for a fun night of entertainment and enjoy watching movies at two of our most popular facilities- Cottonwood Creek Park and the Encinitas Community Center. Movies are free! Bring your blankets and low-back chairs. In the case of rain, The November 15 movie will be moved into the Community Center Auditorium. Encinitas Holiday Parade. Our hometown tradition! Thousands of people will be on floats and in bands with tens of thousands more cheering them on as the 2014 Encinitas Holiday Parade rolls along Coast Highway 101 on Saturday, December 6th. The parade begins at 5:30p.m. It is preceded by a 5:00 PM tree lighting ceremony at the Lumberyard (near Starbucks coffee).

Put your child’s imagination into action! Create your own characters and perform at a professional theatre at the end of the class.
Seaside is a great way for youth in grades K through 6 to have fun during school breaks. Each week is packed full of super activities like crafts, games, sports, cooking, and more, led by friendly and qualified day camp staff in a safe and well-supervised environment. Do you know what to do if your pet is sick? The Pet First Aid class is a must for serious pet owners! This CPR class covers the guidelines and skills for performing CPR and uses an automated external defibrillator (AED) on adults and includes a basic first aid review. Encinitas Youth Basketball leagues are designed for players of all abilities. The Fall/Winter season will consist of 8 games plus end of the season tournament for teams that qualify. We utilize a skills assessment and draft system in an effort to form balanced teams. Sorry, no teammate or specific coach requests are taken. Players will receive a team jersey, participant medal, guaranteed playing time and be eligible for the Radar Player of the Week Award. Teams have regularly scheduled practices. Pickleball is easier than tennis, more fun than badminton and a little slower paced than ping pong. It is a social sport without being physically demanding. Nutrition Coordinator: Lynda Smith Come enjoy a delicious meal served in the Banquet Hall. Reservations are required and can be made up until 8:00a.m. of the day you would like to have lunch, by calling (760) 943-2258. Although reservations are required for a guaranteed meal, extras may be available on a first-comefirst-served basis for those without a reservation. Check the menus available at the Senior Center for daily meal options. This program is supported by donations, the Older Americans Act with funds awarded to the City of Encinitas by the County of San Diego Aging and Independence Services, and the City of Encinitas. Nutrition Project Council
The most effective way to ensure that the Nutrition Program is addressing the needs of the senior community is to have a participant advisory body, the Nutrition Project Council. It is the purpose of this Council to advise the contractor’s Nutrition Coordinator on matters relating to the provision of nutrition. OUTREACH SERVICES AARP Smart Driver Course
This is the Nation’s first and largest 8-hour classroom refresher course designed especially for drivers 55+. Insurance companies offer discounts to graduates of the program. The Angel’s Depot Program
The Encinitas Senior Center has partnered with Angel’s Depot, a nonprofit, charitable agency that packs nonperishable, nutritionally balanced boxes of food for low income senior citizens. The FREE food boxes from Angel’s Depot are delivered to the Center monthly and distributed at the Senior Center. The program is for Encinitas residents ages 60+ or 55+ with a disability who meet the income qualifications. Please call (760) 599-7093 for additional eligibility requirements and an application. Out and About EncinitasGet on Board!
Are you an Encinitas senior citizen resident with no means of transportation? If so, you may be eligible to become a passenger. Volunteer drivers will take you to the grocery store, doctor appointments, pharmacy, Senior Center and many other locations in Encinitas. Call Gail Dupler, Transportation Coordinator at (760) 943-2256 to request an application. There is no charge. At the present time, approved Out and About Passengers are being put on a wait list. When additional drivers become available, passengers will be notified in the order the applications were received.

Transfer / Refunds / Cancellation Policy
Transfers may be processed prior to the second meeting date of a program and will not incur any fees if the transfer is to a program of equal or lesser value. Transfers to a program of greater value will include the program fee difference and an additional processing fee. Cancellations/Refunds — Activities are subject to change. A full refund will be given if the City cancels the activity. Refunds requested before the second program meeting date may be granted minus a $10.00 cancellation fee and $2.50 processing fee ($1.00 for seniors). Prorated refunds may be given for a medical reason, based on the number of unattended days. Doctor’s note required. No refunds will be issued for inclement weather or after the second program meeting.
The City of Encinitas Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to adjust the transfer/refund policy depending upon the circumstances and the severity of the situation.

A 2010 laureate of the prestigious Fondation Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet in France, violinist Etienne Gara was invited to participate in the Perlman Music Program in New York and joined violinist Itzhak Perlman for the winter residency of the festival in Sarasota, Florida and for a tour in Israel. Mr. Gara has performed throughout Europe and North Etienne Gara America. Among several prizes, Mr. Gara won the Music Live Now competition, created by Sir Yehudi Menuhin. A California Bay-Area native who began private saxophone studies at the University of California, Davis, Russell Viers continued at California State University, Sacramento, where he completed his Master of Music degree. In 2007, he was runnerup in the CSUS Festival of New Russell Veirs American Music Performers Competition, where he was a finalist the previous year. Russell recently earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance at UCLA, studying with renowned saxophonist Douglas Masek. At UCLA, he performed in numerous woodwind chamber ensembles and the contemporary music ensemble, Contempo Flux. A winner of UCLA’s “All-Star Concerto Competition,” he has appeared as a soloist with the UCLA Philharmonia. www.russellveirs.com.

A native of Armenia, New Yorkbased pianist-composer Hayk Arsenyan made his orchestral debut with the Armenian Philharmonic at the age of 11 performing his own Requiem for piano and orchestra. At the age of 17, Mr. Hayk Arsenyan Arsenyan made his European orchestral debut as a soloist with the Radio France National Philharmonic Orchestra, and was awarded a platinum medal by the City of Paris. He has appeared in numerous recitals in USA, Armenia, Russia, France, Italy, Spain, and Lebanon. Performance venues include Carnegie Hall (New York) Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Moscow), and appearances at the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago, and the Phillips Collection Concert Series in Washington DC. His live recording from Chicago’s Hess Series was released under the Naxos Music Library Label. Currently, Dr. Arsenyan teaches at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa and a Master’s degree from the Gnessin Music Academy in Moscow.
