Climate Action in Encinitas Did you know the City has a plan to tackle Climate Change? In 2011, the City adopted the Encinitas Climate Action Plan to reduce the community’s greenhouse gas emissions. Since that time, solar panels have been installed on City Hall, the City fleet of vehicles now includes many fuel efficient cars, and permit fees have been waived or reduced for energy efficiency projects like home solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations. These are among the many projects, programs, and new policies that the City has implemented to combat climate change. The City is currently undergoing an update to the Climate Action Plan to make it even stronger and create an even greater impact. One of the major additions to the new plan will be the development of a Community Choice Energy program. The City of Encinitas is currently banding together with other local cities to evaluate the benefits of such a program. A CCE program would offer greener and cleaner renewable energy to residents and businesses at a price that is comparable to current electricity costs. Renewable energy sources like solar and wind produce far fewer emissions than traditional natural gas and coal and would help us achieve Climate Action goals established in the new plan. Once the update is complete, we will be asking the community to join in the effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. What actions can you take to reduce climate impacts? Are you willing to bike to work, take the train, or carpool? Could you install energy efficient lighting or appliances at home? Could you replace your grass with water-saving plants? There are many things that Encinitas residents and businesses can do to help. The future of our climate depends on everyone pitching in and the City of Encinitas plans to help us get there.
SEE-CLICK-FIX! - Reporting an issue to City Hall has never been easier! Imagine you’re out around town and notice some unsightly graffiti on the sidewalk. You would like it removed and make a mental note to yourself to contact City Hall when you get home. With our new SeeClickFix mobile customer service app, you no longer have to wait until you get home. If you have a cell phone, you can submit a service request to City Hall right from the palm of your hand. Attach a photo to your request if you’d like. Of course, you can also wait to get home if you wish and submit your request online. Each request for service is routed to the appropriate department and the request can be tracked online. So check it out today!

YOUTH SPORTS THE STORY BEHIND OUR SUCCESSFUL YOUTH BASKETBALL PROGRAM “Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” John Wooden
In the City of Encinitas Parks and Recreation Department youth basketball league we create a community of staff, volunteers, parents and players, where all feel welcomed. Players learn, develop and have the opportunity to give their best, both on and off the court. Driven by our league philosophy, by focusing in on both individual and team goals, we create a fun and competitive atmosphere with fair playing rules per age division. Volunteer coaches are also pivotal to the league’s success. Volunteer Coaches go through a back ground screening process. Coaches go through a specialized training covering expected coaching behaviors, how to run fun and exciting practices, sportsmanship, and growing our community through positive coaching alliances. Each week we share a skill of the week with our coaches via email. This is designed to help build the fundamental skill sets of the players in our leagues. It’s game time! The Encinitas Community and Senior Center is home to all of our games, a top notch facility featuring a regulation high school court with short court options and adjustable rims for our younger ball players. For more information about our youth sports programs, please contact Recreation Supervisor Jordan Heller at jheller@encinitasca.gov or 760-943-2269.
