For the Family Family Enrichment Program

Encinitas Parks & Recreation provides resident families opportunities to strengthen family and community bonding through the Familiy Enrichment Program. Fun, exciting, and best of all free activities, events and outings in the community are scheduled twice monthly throughout the school year. Convenient online registration is now available for this program. Encinitas Families only. Participants may select up to 4 of the 6 scheduled enrichment activities, including a Clay Play Day, Family Dance, Beach and Clean-Up and Lunch, from list (family must also request number of “seats” per event.) Friday Night Social

Bring your favorite CDs and dance the night away to your favorite tunes! Come join the fun! This program is for adults with developmental disabilities and meets on the second Friday of each month. Call program supervisor at (760) 943-2261 for more information. Location: Encinitas Community Center March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13

Free Tutoring

Having trouble in math, reading, writing, science or history? Encinitas students in grades kindergarten through 8th can receive one hour free tutoring per week on Mondays at Park Dale Lane Elementary or Wednesdays at Oak Crest Middle School between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Register for each site and sign up on-site weekly - up to 4 weeks in advance to attend one hour study sessions. Students must bring study material or homework. Adult tutors monitor participants only while they are being tutored. Tutoring will be closed on all school holidays and vacations (with some Tuesday make-up days offered.)

Center lately? We’re in the process of giving “the Center” a cozier look and feel. Parents, feel free to lounge in the lobby area, with free Wi-Fi coming soon. Take in the sweeping views the Center offers or check out the new public art displays throughout the building, and of course, theres’ always the saltwater fish tank for the kiddos to enjoy. . Also, as you’re planning your year, don’t forget that the Center rents meeting and activity rooms, as well as the full-service banquet hall or gymnasium/auditorium for your events. Have a passion for sports? How about getting in some basketball, volleyball, pickleball, badminton, or take a hike outside and enjoy the natural open space, home to three native endangered plants: Encinitas Baccharis, Del Mar Manzanita and the Orcutt Spineflower.

A class not to be missed for your Baby Bopper. This class is a fusion of creative movement and basic hip hop to get all the wiggles out. Music with Spanish Tiffany Spencer

Come enjoy a fun, creative way to learn Spanish. Both children and adults will be engaged in this total immersion class through games, puppets, books and songs. Participants will receive a CD and copies of lyrics and their translations. Playball 2’s CAN DO is a specialized movement program focused on introducing your child to sport fundamentals and life skills in a positive, fun and non-competitive way. Skills such as throwing and catching will be introduced in an environment which enhances language, self concept, socialization and independence. Everyone is a winner in Playball!

MY FIRST ART CLASS (AGES 2-4) Abrakadoodle

For the beginning artist! This is a unique art class for children and parents (and their helpers). Explore textures and mixtures, stamping and squeezing, printing and painting, and so much more! Little fingers experiment with painting, gluing, sticking, printing, and creating while developing fine motor, language, and self-help skills. Children are introduced to color, shape, texture, and art techniques, styles, and materials with new lessons each session. Seaside is a great way for youth in grades K through 6 to have fun during school breaks. Each week is packed full of super activities like crafts, games, sports, cooking, and more, led by friendly and qualified day camp staff in a safe and well-supervised environment. Seaside Day Camp Counselor In Training Program (ages 13-16)

Seaside Day Camp alumni are invited to extend their participation in Day Camp by participating as a Counselor in Training. CITs will actively assist with the program responsibilities, including implementation, supervision, and program development. Publish My Book™ was developed by Lisa Monaco Gonzales to “make little authors.” Children become published authors and illustrators when they complete Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the enrichment program. In Phase 1, you will learn the elements of a story and begin writing and illustrating your own book. You will acquire knowledge about how to publish your masterpiece as you plan the layout of your story. By the end of the class, Publish My Book™ has prepared you for publication. This fun hands-on class includes topics such as babysitter’s responsibilities, safety, infant care and an introduction to first aid. Participants practice on dolls to learn infant skills including bottle feeding and diapering and use manikins for learing and practicing infant and child CPR. Beginner Drums (ages 8-18) John Hall

This class is for beginning drummers with little or no playing experience. Instruction is conducted in a friendly, safe and informative environment. The main goal is to have fun while learning to play. Sessions include multiple drumming techniques, musicianship basics and essential rudiments. A drum set approach to playing is also utilized to develop fine motor skills, as well as a coordinated group sound. Class equipment is provided. Students will need drumsticks for their personal use. Come join the best men’s adult basketball league in North County. Games are full court with two professional officials, score keeper and timer. Are you an Encinitas senior citizen resident with no means of transportation? If so, you may be eligible to become a passenger. Volunteer drivers will take you to the grocery store, doctor appointments, pharmacy, Senior Center and many other locations in Encinitas. Call Gail Dupler, Transportation Coordinator at (760) 943-2256 to request an application. There is no charge. At the present time, approved Out and About passengers are being put on a wait list. When additional drivers become available, passengers will be notified in the order the applications were received.

Transfer / Refunds / Cancellation Policy

Transfers may be processed prior to the second meeting date of a program and will not incur any fees if the transfer is to a program of equal or lesser value. Transfers to a program of greater value will include the program fee difference and an additional processing fee. Cancellations/Refunds — Activities are subject to change. A full refund will be given if the City cancels the activity. Refunds requested before the second program meeting date may be granted minus a $10.00 cancellation fee and $2.50 processing fee ($1.00 for seniors). Prorated refunds may be given for a medical reason, based on the number of unattended days. Doctor’s note required. No refunds will be issued for inclement weather or after the second program meeting.

The City of Encinitas Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to adjust the transfer/refund policy depending upon the circumstances and the severity of the situation.

Code of Conduct

T h e C i t y o f E n c i n i t a s P a r k s a n d R e c re a t i o n Department Code of Conduct is to ensure respectful and safe participation in Encinitas recreation programs and activities. Participants, as well as parents of participating minors, may be required to sign Code of Conduct forms to acknowledge program rules, goals, expected behavior and/or consequential actions to support a positive and valued learning and/or recreational experience. This Code is also to be considered and adhered to by all contracted, voluntary and other support Staff.

Scholarships

The City of Encinitas Parks and Recreation Department offers financial assistance to Encinitas Residents who meet income requirements. Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department office at (760) 633-2740 for information.

Grand Prize Winner of the 16th International Violin Competition in Romania (May 2013), 15 year old child prodigy Ann Sein is a recipient of the Dorothy Richard Starling Violin Scholarship at Temple University. She performs on a 1921 Carl Becker violin on loan from the Colburn Collection in Los Angeles. Samuel Nebyu is First Prize winner of the Flame International Violin Competition in Paris and the Remember Enescu International Violin Competition in Romania. He has performed at the Eilat Music Festival, the Mozarteum Festival, the Kimmel Center, and Alice Tully Hall. Both are students at the Temple University Center for Gifted Young Musicians in Philadelphia and study with professor Eduard Schmieder, internationally renowned violin professor and conductor.
