The Evanston Environmental Association is once again proud to be the official Chicago area host of the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival—the largest environmental film festival in the U.S. Each evening see award-winning films selected from this renowned festival. The films will present a variety of perspectives and experiences shared by some of the best of today’s environmental filmmakers. The festival showcases amateur and professional films, focusing on nature, activism, conservation, energy and a range of other environmental issues. A different film is featured each night. MARCH 11-13 Evanston Children’s Theatre Presents ALIEN INVASION AT LOVECRAFT MIDDLE SCHOOL Some very strange things have been happening at Lovecraft Middle School! The teachers have stopped teaching, half of the students keep making weird, inhuman beeping sounds, and the meanest, most popular girl in school is actually… being nice?! It’s up to the kids at Lovecraft to figure out what’s going on and fast, or else this alien invasion could take over the entire school, then the entire world! MARCH 25-MAY 18 AREITO: ALLUSIONS OF SACRED GEOMETRY AND DIASPORA An Installation by Yanira Collado Areíto an Arawak ceremonial practice involving lyrics and choreography that was believed to recount and pay tribute to heroic deeds of Taíno ancestors, chiefs, gods, and Cemis. This installation is an analysis into the emergence and diaspora of the cultural practices, spirituality, and folkloric traditions in the Caribbean. Yanira Collado is a Miami based conceptual artist who lived and worked in Evanston. Her work attempts to assemble a visual language which brings together whose history is recorded, stored and retrieved and how that process occurs.)
