A Worthwhile Investment Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation has a vision for a city on the move. Financing provided by the bond will enable the city to build new facilities to: • Provide Fayetteville residents with affordable, close-to-home options for sports and recreation • Create venues that could make Fayetteville a desirable destination for tournaments and other events • Promote a healthier community – making it more fun and convenient for people of all ages to “get moving” • Generate greater economic prosperity – creating jobs, attracting the events that also bring visitors to stay in our city, and making Fayetteville a more desirable place to relocate • Providing young people with increased options for activities in safe and positive environments. The projects that would be made possible through this bond package have been strategically chosen based on a sound evaluation of what would best serve our community’s needs and generate new revenue for the city. Extensive research and planning – which included public input – showed the following noteworthy facts: • Our city’s population increased by nearly 66% from 2000 to 2011 • Households with children account for about 72% of our population • Our community has a significant lack of recreational facilities, particularly swimming pools

The projected cost of all the projects would be $54.6 million, $45.6 million of which would be financed by the bond. Bond funds would be raised by a property tax increase of 2.25 cents per $100 assessed value. If your combined personal property tax value is $100,000, you would pay an extra $1.88 per month ($22.50 a year). Residents will have the opportunity to voice their opinions in February 2013 when the bond referendum appears on the ballot. In selecting projects to include in the bond package, the following were also considered: • Facilities that would be able to operate with little or no general fund support • Additional revenue-generating opportunities such as concession leases and corporate sponsorships • The availablity of facilities for school athletic programs • Keeping membership costs/entrance fees affordable for residents of our city For more information, call us or visit the website.
