Our neighbors listed the following as the qualities they most want to see in their dream neighborhood: Recreation, Safety/ Crime Reduction, Infrastructure/ Infrastructure Maintenance, Phonesthetics, Aesthetics.

- Recreation (19%)– Water features in the park (pool, waterslide, improved splash pad, hot tub); More activities for children (after school events and outdoor play- soccer); More play equipment and entertainment options; Boys & Girls Club

- Safety & Crime Reduction (15%) – Feeling safe; Less shooting and crime; safer for children to walk and ride their bikes; more/friendlier police patrol; no drug houses, leashed animals

Residents of the Harvester Neighborhood enjoy a strong sense of community, characterized by close-knit, respectful relationships where neighbors treat each other like family. They appreciate the current peaceful atmosphere but seek improvements in areas such as enhancing children's behavior, increasing friendliness, and fostering greater parental supervision. They also desire more positive attention from politicians to further strengthen community bonds.

In terms of aesthetics and recreation, Harvester residents love their neighborhood’s tree-canopy and green-infrastructure, including their park. They envision a neighborhood with even more lush greenery (including well-maintained lawns, and more gardens) alongside improved trash pickup and cleaner streets. Harvester residents seek to address challenges related to blight including repairs to dilapidated houses as well as vacant lots in addition to improved lawn maintenance. (

When it comes to social offerings, residents express a desire to see enhanced recreational options, including water features, additional play equipment, and the establishment of a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization that can offer recreation and programing options for all members of their neighborhood, including youth, adults, and persons with disabilities. Safety is also a top priority, with residents seeking friendlier police interactions, elimination of drug houses, and control of unleashed animals to further secure their environment.

1) Care/ Respect- 12%- Positive aspects of the Harvester neighborhood include close-knit, respectful neighbors who treat each other like family. Improvement areas include enhancing kids' behavior, increasing friendliness, enhancing parental supervision, and receiving more positive attention from politicians.

2) Phonesthetics- 10% - Harvester neighborhood residents envision a community that is peaceful and calm, filled with sounds of children playing and friendly conversation – rather than loud mufflers or cars. Fortunately, for many neighborhood residents it seems that this dream has already become a reality- they describe the neighborhood as peaceful, quiet and even “super chill.”

3) Recreation- 10% - Harvester neighborhood residents desire increased recreation options, including water features in the park, additional children's activities (with an emphasis on soccer and outdoor play), more play equipment, and the presence of a Boys & Girls Club.

4) Safety/ Crime Reduction- 9% - While Harvester residents currently view safety as a neighborhood strength, and describe feeling relatively secure, they would like to see additional safety improvements. They desire friendlier police patrols and the elimination of drug houses and unleashed animals in order to reduce crime and create a safer environment for children.

5) Aesthetics- 8%- Many harvester residents report that they love the look and feel of their neighborhood and believe things are changing for the better. Ultimately, they envision a trash-free neighborhood with ample greenery, well-kept laws, and more gardens and flowers (like lilacs) They see room for improvement in trash pickup, alley/street cleanliness, responsible trash behavior, and dust mitigation from Palermo’s.

6) Social Offerings- 7% - The Harvester neighborhood prides itself on community collaboration and social hubs like churches. One neighbor stated, “I love that the community is taking steps to come together.” Residents express a desire to build more relationships – and requested more opportunities to foster social connection for adults and youth alike– and for neighbors to be able to have fun with and help one another (through after school programs, church activities, home repair projects, etc.)

7) Green Infrastructure- 7% - Harvester residents appreciate their green and public infrastructure- particularly the proximity and upkeep of their nearby park, and the presence of trees and vegetation in their neighborhood.

8) Blight Remediation- 6% - In Harvester neighborhoods, challenges include maintaining cleaner yards, addressing run-down houses through repairs or demolitions, and cleaning up empty lots and dog waste
