The Boer War and America
Fee Members $5, Non-members $12
January 21, 2025, 6:00 p.m.
Golden History Museum
Stan Moore will speak on a little discussed aspect of world history: America and the Boer War. Around 1900, the British had wars going throughout their Empire. The major action was in southern Africa,
the Boer War. Of course, the Boers, farmers of northern European descent, fought for their way of life and homeland. To support the action, the Royal Army sought horses wherever possible. The British government bought some 250,000 horses and mules in the US. They were consolidated, entrained, and sent to New Orleans. Ships carrying 1,000 horses sailed to Africa almost daily. There was active opposition to the war in the US and elsewhere.
Icon of the American West—The Western Horse
Fee Members $5, Non-members $12
February 25, 2025, 6:00 p.m.
Golden History Museum
Join us for an evening celebrating the Western Horse and the indelible mark they’ve made on the West. There’s a reason why horse theft was
considered on par with murder! Horse thieves, stock detectives, famous rodeo horses, the survivors of the Little Big Horn and more tales from yesteryear featuring the horses themselves and the people who loved (most of) them. This will be presented by author Randi Samuelson-Brown, a former resident of Golden, Colorado.
Time Traveling through Golden: A Geologic Journey through Deep Time!

Join us in traveling through Deep Geologic Time across the Golden area. You will learn about
landscape changes over the last 300+ million years, as continents came together and split apart several times while moving from the tropics at sea level to today’s middle latitude and mountain elevations. Presented by Donna Anderson, a Colorado School of Mines faculty member in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering since 2000.

Fee Members $5, Non-members $12
March 12, 2025, 6:00 p.m.
Golden History Museum
Join us in traveling through Deep Geologic Time across the Golden area. You will learn about
landscape changes over the last 300+ million years, as continents came together and split apart several times while moving from the tropics at sea level to today’s middle latitude and mountain elevations. Presented by Donna Anderson, a Colorado School of Mines faculty member in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering since 2000.
